Charlie nodded some and gave a soft chuckle at the mention of his job "Her mother knows everything and anythimg about everyone, but she is a sweet lady." He explained never taking his eyes off her

Max smiled wide and nodded happily "Thank you so much!" She yelled to him as she started to walk off and place flyers up

Carmen nodded and smiled a little. “She always has.... I’m just glad that she looked past your past and hired you.” She told him quietly and looked up seeing her nurse was coming in to help her detach from everything and letting her know she could go home.

Jon walked with Michael for a good couple hours before they were finished and by that point Michael had met back up with Max and they were walking back to the car “I can see how he got elected sheriff so young.” He chuckled.

Max raised an eyebrow giving a small laugh "Oh yeah? When we were younger I would have never pegged him for sheriff, more a mechanic but he seems to suit the role well." She said softly

Charlie nodded happily and smiled some at her "You need a ride home? I'd be happy to take you." He said softly as she came out of the room fully dressed and ready to leave

He chuckled some and just drove them home, heading inside and starting to sort out lunch for them.

Carmen thanked him and signed her papers off, getting into his car and letting him take her home.

-1 week-
Max looked herself over in the mirror for the hundredth time trying to make sure she looked absolutely perfect for the dance. She glanced over at Michael giving a soft smile, he always looked good dressed she just hoped their fight from a couple nights ago had settled fully. He had brought up starting a family again and wouldnt listen when she tried to suggest other methods rather than her carry a baby.

Tom stood in their room buttoning his shirt giving a heavy sigh. If it wasnt required of him to be there he would have just stayed home, he was tired from work and frankly just wanted to be alone. Distancing himself from Carmen when they finally made a decision on treatment he thought this would be the nest way for jim to deal with the pain if she didn't make it through. He thought maybe it would lessen the blow.

Carmen got dressed in her favorite Christmas dress that she brought out every year. She’d felt good all day and she was hoping it would last through the dance night. “Babe can you come zip me up?” She called to him frowning when he didn’t say a word about her outfit or anything about her appearance. “We can leave early if ou want.” She said quietly. She hated how distant he was being. It hurt more every time and she wished she could understand why he was being that way.

Jon was one of the first people there with his date and he went to get them some drinks before rejoining her at the table they were assigned to, seeing they were with max and Michael, tom and Carmen and another of his departments guys plus his girlfriend. He chatted with Sophie for a while until he saw max show up and he waved to them both. “Hey guys How’s it going?” He asked smiling

Max walked into the dance hall smiling wide as she saw Jon waving them over. Though when she fully saw him she felt her breath catch her throat. She hadnt seen him in a suit since prom and then he looked like he was in a monkey suit, but now....now he oozed confidence and looked so good it made her almost want to jump him right there. As they got to the table she noticed the woman with him wondering who she was "Hey Jon." She said happily

Tom came over and zipped her up sighing softly "You look great babe, and we stay how ever long you want." He mumbled before he put on his jacket and grabbed his keys "Ill be in the car." He muttered before he left the house.

Jon smiled and watched them take a seat. “Sophie this is Max and Michael. This is Sophie, I may have forced her into this by refusing to sign my discharge papers until she went on a date with me.” He chuckled and wrapped his arm around Sophie’s shoulders. They’d been on a date a couple nights before already and he really was into her.

Carmen sighed heavily getting her earrings in and walked downstairs, locking the dogs in the kitchen and got out to the car “Why are you so miserable lately?” She muttered. She only tried to force him to talk when they were in the car at the moment, where he couldn’t get away from her.

Max watched him put his arm around her and felt a rush of jealousy and anger fill her "Nice to meet you." She said softly trying her best to hide her being upset about this. She gave a small smile and listened to them chat with Michael but all she could do was stay quiet

Tom frowned some "Im not miserable." He said bluntly as he drove to the dance. Though truth be told he was beyond miserable, the thought of loosing her killed him every single day.

“Your ass getting hot you liar?” She muttered. “I know you too damn well. I called Janie when you had to ‘rush into work’ for that first radiotherapy session... you were never there. If it really scared you that much you should have just told me that.” She muttered.

He smiled some and talked to Michael about how the jobs were going that he was doing around town. “I’ll have to get you to come do my cabinets probably. They’ve been broken for months.” He chuckled.

Max bit her lip hard giving a small laugh "I bet he could do that with no problem." She said softly giving Michael's hand a squeeze though as she noticed Sophie whispering and giggling in Jon's ear she felt that anger build up again "Im going to get a drink." She muttered before she went off

Tom frowned more and sighed heavily "Look lets talk about this later okay? I dont want to argue before the event." He murmured pulling up to the venue kissing her cheek before he got out and went inside with her.

Carmen frowned some and sighed heavily walking in with him and going over to their table taking a seat and leaning back some. She wasn’t happy with him one bit but she was trying her absolute best to keep up appearances in town that she was still healthy as can be so that no one bothered her about it.

Jon frowned seeing max was in a huff but ignored it. “Hey.” He grinned seeing tom sit next to him. “Bet you’re glad to be back to deputy after tomorrow.” He chuckled as he was back to work pretty shortly and he couldn’t be happier himself. He kept Sophie close smiling at her every so often.

Max came back and sat down smiling happily at Carmen making sure to chat with her for a bit. As the night progressed Max only got more upset as she watched this woman with Jon. He seemed to really like her and she was glad he was happy but it somewhat broke her heart to see him with another woman.

Tom sat there and chuckled joking around with Jon for a bit. As it came time to dance he took Carmen's hand giving her a soft smile and pulled her up to give her a dance "I'm sorry....lets talk when we go home okay? I promise no more secrets." He whispered as he kept her close to him relishing this moment between the two of them

She just nodded and held him a little tighter, resting her head against his chest. “I love you.” She murmured tiredly and just held onto him still.

He was enjoying his night a lot and Sophie was looking beautiful as well. He didn’t notice that max was upset with him at all. In his eyes there was no reason to be upset with him in the first place.

Max took a deep breath and pushed her feelings aside giving a small smile as she walked up to Michael who was chatting with some other men by the bar "Hey babe, sorry to interupt but mind if I steal for a dance?" She asked sweetly

Tom kept her close to him closing his eyes trying to fight back this whirl of emotions he was feeling about everything in his life recently

She frowned just holding him for w couple more slow songs then smiled a little. “We can go home if you want now.” She told him quietly and kissed him gently.

He smiled and got up dancing with Sophie most of the night until she decided to leave early as she had Work the next morning and he went and took a seat holding onto a glass of wine. ‘Alright we are gonna do the annual Christmas father daughter dance, girls grab your dads.’ Jon fro bed some and just looked over at max

Max sat by herself as she waited for Michael to come out of the restroom. She gave a soft frown hearing what dance it was and felt let her heart sink. She remembered how she used to always dance with her dad, she looked around and caught eyes with Jon a frown still plastered on her face.

Tom danced with her giving a small smile and kissing her lovingly letting his hands travel down to her ass giving a small squeeze "If I take you home can I take this dress off of you?" He asked whispering it in her ear with a low raspy voice that he knew would drive her insane most nights

She smiled tiredly and just nodded. “If you must handsome.” She murmured kissing him again and headed out with him to the car.

He gave her a look of disgust for a moment, mostly the alcohol talking and then got up and stumbled into the restroom.

Max frowned some at his look towards her. She waited a few more minutes until Michael came out looking aggitated "Hey babe everything okay?" She asked softly frowning more as he took her hand and started to walk her outside

Tom drove home quickly and took her inside and up to their room. As they finished he laid with her panting softly and holding her close to him "I love you Carmen, more than anything." He whispered

She rolled over and straddled his waist frowning some. “Then why won’t you hardly look at me? I’m sick I’m not a different person.” She muttered. “Sometimes you look at me like you don’t even know me and that’s just terrifying.”

Michael frowned some. “Just walk.” He muttered dragging her out of there and to the car. “Jon is very drunk in there and going off on one about how he should be part of this right now but you never gave him s chance.” He muttered getting in the car to drive them home.

Tom frowned and nodded some looking at her "Im terrified Carmen....I cant stand the thought of loosing you so I pulled back..thinking it might help in some way but I see its just made things worse." He admits giving a heavy sigh as he ran his hands up her sides

Max frowned some and shook her head a bit staying silent as they got in the car. She had not yet told Michael that she was actually pregnant before she left, and she just hoped Jon didn't let it fully slip that she had an abortion.

She frowned shaking her head. “I’m not going anywhere... you’re stuck with me I’m afraid handsome.” She mumbled tiredly laying back dowm carefully and snuggled into him.

Michael frowned some. “Max what is he talking about?” He asked her quietly.

Max frowned shaking her head "I told you we had a scare many years ago...he must've been talking about that." She whispered going into the house with him

Tom held her close to him giving a small sigh kissing her bare shoulder before he started to drift off to sleep

She smiled some and snuggled in closer under the covers before finally falling asleep.

He just nodded and sighed a little then shook his head. “He’s just drunk. I’m sure he’ll be fine by tomorrow.l he muttered.

Max nodded softly and went off to bed with him. She woke up in the morning to find Mixhael already gone for work. She gave a soft sigh and got ready for the day heading to the studio, though when she arrived and saw Jon sitting on the steps she couldnt help but frown a little "Can I help you?"

Tom woke up the next morning and smiled softly as he held Carmen close to him. He kissed her forehead gently before he got up and ready to go to work
