Here is the OOC thread! I'll update the character list as more are added. Best to keep track of all of them as we move along.

Feel free for everyone to add their opinion on the threat's strength and weaknesses here, on top of if your character would like to bond or have issues with another character. It's best we work these out before we begin so we can guide things in the right direction.

I had posted this on the other thread so I’ll just move it back here:

Aidan is open for any kind of plotting in regards to relationships: friends, enemies, etc! Also, any side characters are open for interactions as well.

As for the threats’ weaknesses and strengths, I can only think of cliche things like fire, since that is pretty common in many myths. Maybe it’s also something like the cold slows it down? So winter is safer than say summer? We could also do another cliche like iron or silver being something that can harm them? Maybe there is some kind of herb combination (made up of herbs used for protection) that when burned, the smoke is actually toxic to them? Not like killing (maybe in higher amounts) but it causes irritation to the lungs.

I like the idea of a burned herb combination. Such as the smoke can keep them at bay, but if slathered on something sharp and pierced into the creatures, it can kill them. Has a very folklore feel.

I don't see Rile as being enemies with Aidan, outside of a sarcastic jab here and there. Do you think Aidan is more likely to be friends or otherwise with Rile? I could also see a friendship formed with Quintin. Both are kind of outcasts and Rile does have the remorse of losing his younger sister, even though the situation with Quintin isn't the exact same, it could hold a parallel for Rile in that Quintin is younger and in a tough spot. Thoughts?

Also, I will be doing the first Event Post to set things up, followed by Rile's introduction hopefully this weekend. If you all want to start working on your introduction posts, that'd be good too.

Riley: Perhaps they've met before within Ian's more illicit activities when he was younger and just outta Sallow? I feel like they aren't too much in good terms, given they're almost opposites in occupation, but maybe they have a connection together.

Quintin: Not with Ian himself but more indirectly through his father, though maybe Quentin caught glimpses of Ian's kinder side before he left.

AJ: Probably the only person Ian actually got to befriend beside his parents, almost like an uncle.

Bill and Ray: Ian has probably seen some close calls with the police, maybe even a scuffle or two.

Sadie: While Ian doesn't consider her any better than the others, he might have some form of respect towards her with his experiences.

And with that, I'll write up some of my side characters!!

I could see that, though it would more likely have been a transaction with the Savages MC, and Rile was there to make sure things went smoothly. I don't know enough about Ian to say what kind of transaction it could've been though, so maybe you could enlighten me on that (Drugs for a client party, extra muscle for a shady deal, escort services...etc.)

If they're not on good terms, it's because Ian could think of himself as above Rile, whereas Rile sees it the opposite way in that he knows he's bad, or has done bad things without excuse, while Ian thinks the bad he's done is justified because of his pursuit of a better life.

Mostly escort services I'd feel, eventually getting enough trust to get more drug related deals that get him enough money to run away from his nightlife.

I think it's a mix of these, Ian doesn't believe he's above Rile, though he definitely judges him for the different intents behind their actions. I think Rile might have him pegged as a sleazy coward for running away too.

That's kind of what I thought. I was trying to think of something that isn't very common. I know a bit about protection spells so that's what gave me the idea. Following that, maybe instead of iron or steel, maybe if they are pierced by a dagger that is made from crystals that are commonly used for driving negative energies away or protection.

Or something really, really, really sharp xD

Also, Uncle Aj has my heart. He is just everyone's friendly, drunk uncle.

Okay, characters. This is a rough breakdown just based off of character sheets but is definitely open to change as story or new developments are added. To add overall, she probably ends up being close to the entirety of the group simply because they will end up spending a lot of time together and she is demisexual (just meaning emotion connections are important, platonic or not), so good and bad, emotional ties tend to make bonds stronger for her. Aidan probably doesn't have too many "enemies" with people minus like obviously really, really horrible people. It's one of her character flaws to search the good in people (unless serious offenses). I'm also leaving out romances, solely because I feel it depends on how the story unravels but she is open to those/willing to plot if that is of interest.

Main Characters
Rile: I actually think they would turn out to be very close friends. I think Rile fascinates Aidan because of how much he goes out and explores, being a drifter. I think when they butt heads, its more of sarcastic banter between the two of them. So I definitely see them being super close by the end of the story, no matter what direction that goes. Also his soft spot for kids makes it hard for her to stay mad xD

Maggie: obviously very close colleague/friend since they work together. They might butt heads regarding evidence versus text. But I think Aidan respects Maggie and enjoys the fact that Maggie is able to point out different perspectives.

Quintin: I think Aidan and Quintin could potentially be very close friends. They both face expectations from their fathers, something that they could bond over. Also, I feel she becomes extremely protective over Quin, just because Quin is amazing.

Ian: Aidan probably doesn't completely trust him at first, simply because he is a businessman and that isn't the crowd that she hangs around. However, I don't think it will take long for her to warm up to him and I think afterwards they have a good relationship.

Summer: I think these two might butt heads a lot more, simply because they come from two very different backgrounds/lifestyles. However, I think they could make a really good team and they can learn a lot from each other. Like Quin, I think they will bond over the high expectations from parents, even if Aidan cannot relate to the extreme of both Summer and Quin's parents.

Side Characters:
Archie & Xavier: She has a good relationship with both of her dads. She probably can talk to Xavier easier due to the fact he is more intune of his emotions and confident in himself. Her and Archie do butt heads and will get into several fights regarding her future.

Sadie: She probably doesn't cross paths with her often but overall respects her as she is doing what she can flawlessly.

AJ: She loves him. He's a very nice listener and a very sweet man. She feels weirdly safe around him.

Ray: She doesn't like him. At all. She won't speak ill of him due to not knowing his whole story, but I'm sure several kids have gotten sick or even died because he sold them narcotics so it's not a good impression.

Bill and Elliot: She had a few run-ins with them since she has trespassed on private property. And she has grown up with them heading the town so she knows of them very well. As far as cops go, Aidan doesn't love cops for various and obvious reasons. But once again, it would be a rare sight for her to openly disrespect them (especially to their faces).

Arthur: He's the mayor. She probably doesn't agree with the changes he is making to the town but she also can't judge because she doesn't know much about running a community and having all of those lives in your hands.

My assessment of the main characters are as follows:

Aidan: Rile probably would probably be intrigued by her willingness to put herself into possibly bad situations, as he has no issue with that as well. However, he also knows the difference between fun and something that would give him a headache later, and doubts Aidan can do the same. The fact that she believes in folklore and such would also be a point of teasing for him.

Ian: Pretty much already said my piece on that so far. He most likely doesn't get along with him.

Maggie: To put it bluntly, Rile probably thinks she's fucking weird, but that can be a good thing. He doesn't believe in the supernatural, only what he can see and touch, but once events in Sallow start to point to the supernatural, he will start to see Maggie and Aidan as the only sane people in town.

Summer: Rile could possibly be uncomfortable around her. They are vastly different people in status and unless he's trying to sleep with her, he would doubt being in the same room with Summer would amount to much good.

Quintin: Like I said in the last thread, Rile probably sees a kinship with Quintin. They are both outcasts who are judged by society, though for vastly different reasons. Rile would see him and think of the parallel to his little sister and how she would go through things. He'd want to help Quintin, and wreck anyone that had an issue with him.

Support characters coming later...

I was wondering about introductions. I plan on working on my today since I have the day off. What would you like to see in the intros? What should word count/length of the post look like?

Well, just really introduce us to your character and her life in Sallow. Talk about her, those in her life, and the town's struggles. Word count is really whatever you feel is appropriate.

I will make a note to reply to this tomorrow once I have time! Sorry for being MIA for the past few days, my classes have been taking priority 😭

Wow, what selfishness! How dare you put your personal and educational well-being over an internet writing project with damn near strangers. I hope you feel as bad as we all now think of you as....

😁 jk

On a side note, I've been experimenting with the cover art. Which version do you all like best? I'm also experimenting with a different creature look, but it's not ready yet.

Honestly, I’m stuck between v1 and v3. The colors look awesome on both (well really all three but that isn’t helpful).

I think all of them are really good! The choice depends on what vibe the RP has for me

V1 is moody and dark, very gritty and morbid horror.
V2 gives me 90s thriller, suspenseful but with life thrown around.
V3's like a late 00s horror movie, mature but with some comfort.

Also, how many side characters are we allowed to have?

Mains
Quintin: Summer has stopped by his coffee shop a handful of times. It's a great place to study and get away from the sterile hospital on her off-days. Summer probably doesn't think very often of Quintin, but knows he is nice and gets her order right every time. Summer may have heard of his s*ic*de attempt through others at the hospital, but probably doesn't make the connection when seeing Quintin face to face. (Lemme know if that is okay! seasonedcat seasonedcat )

Rile: Summer would be lying if she said she didn't find Rile attractive. He's definitely not her type personality-wise, but with tensions rising in the town, I could see her indulging during a moment of weakness. She's likely seen him in passing.

Aidan: Summer and Aidan are very different, and even though they might contrast in personality, they bring out each other's strengths. They met fairly recently, and Summer would consider her a tentative friend. (If that's okay with u! shymorgan shymorgan )

Ian: Summer despises men like Ian. She would probably think he was selfish and rude, and wouldn't deliberately engage very much. I would imagine they'd have gone to school together/around the same time, but wouldn't have interacted.

Maggie: Summer would probably like Maggie and have a soft spot for her. They may know each other through Aidan, but probably haven't spoken much outside of brief interactions. I can see the three women having to come together for various investigations if needed.

Sides
Arthur: Summer has heard about Arthur but doesn't know him well enough to have an opinion. She thinks he's done a lot for the town, but that's pretty much it for now.

Bill: Summer would probably know Bill through her father, who worked semi-closely with the police department over the years. She herself has spoken to him once or twice, usually when checking in patients who'd been arrested with alcohol intoxication or gunshot wounds.

Elliot: Summer has glanced Elliot from time to time while out and about, but she's keen to stay away from the likes of him due to his reputation.

Sadie: Summer is mostly indifferent to Sadie, but does hold some prejudice against her "type." Summer grew up in an affluent family, and she was taught that promiscuous women were pretty low. As an adult she knows that this isn't true, but still wouldn't associate with Sadie if given the chance. Summer definitely has a superiority complex in comparing herself to other women.

Ray: Summer has never met Ray, but probably wouldn't want to. She hears enough about the drunks and addicts who come into the ER from her coworkers and doesn't associate with his crowd.

AJ: Summer views AJ in a positive light, as he once walked her to her car when a belligerent patient decided to threaten her after a long shift. She wishes he would get help, but understands the mechanisms of addiction from a medical standpoint, and also doesn't feel that it's her business to tell anyone what to do.

Archie: Summer doesn't know Archie that well, but would probably have nothing against him.

Xavier: Summer sees Xavier from time to time when she needs to pick something up from the store. He's always pleasant to talk to, but she doesn't know much about him.

I'll add my side charas in the main thread soon!

Also! Just as an addendum, people I've not mentioned in my thing are people that Ian is neutral about, though he does have real thoughts about them, I'm keeping most of them in the shadows for once it gets rolling

All side characters are up to date on the first post! I was brainstorming another side character, one that I think might be more antagonist to the group, like a Henry Bowers from It kind of character (maybe less extreme). Thoughts?

The Cat Man The Cat Man I think, and I definitely could be wrong, that the amount of side characters is whatever number you want. I think it depends on what side characters you think are important for your character or will be for the story in general.

c h a n a c h a n a I would be okay with that! I agree that they definitely can balance each other out.

Joseph Divan, Head Surgeon
Joe is a private man who has high expectations for those around him. He can be hard on his inferiors and especially his daughter, but it comes from a place of love. He regrets making the decisions he has, and uses work to make up for his mistakes. His relationship with Summer's mom is cordial, but they pretend to be an upstanding couple to those around them. Very few people know how lonely and jaded he is. In his work life he is respected, but feels like he wasted his potential by relocating to Sallow.
appearance (I know the hyperlinks are messed up but I'll redo them tomorrow loll)

Ryan Elliot, The Dropout
Ryan grew up with a single mother who had previously been employed by Dr. Divan. After the affair she quit her job at the hospital as an Attending, and eventually fell into unmanageable debt due to her student loans. Unable to find another job in her field, she took odd jobs to make sure Ryan was fed. Ryan himself grew up an outcast, but was always willing to help out other kids. He was often naive, which eventually landed him in with the wrong crowd. He began selling illegal substances in high school and ended up dropping out entirely the first semester of senior year. He found out about his father through old voicemails sent between his parents, and quietly hates the Divans' from afar.
appearance

Nora Divan (nee Mason), The Wife
Nora grew up in an old Southern family who'd amassed their wealth like many of them did. She had high hopes for a business career, and this is what led her to university in Chicago. She met and married Joseph and eventually felt it better to quit her job, as pressure from her family to become a traditional housewife became too much. Nora sometimes resents her husband for doing what he did, but at this point seems to turn the other cheek about it when possible. Her marriage was ruined, but she's forced herself to keep up appearances for 18 years. In doing so, she believes she can fool herself into thinking she's happy. Nora loves Summer, but can be critical and shallow, which has prevented them from being as close as they used to be.

To answer Cat Man's question in the other thread, I would keep your support characters limited to just a few.

One note to take in mind about them is that not all support characters have to be turned. Some can die by other means or they can leave town when the deaths or missing people start to pile up. I think we all want to be surprised when you do your own event posts where one fate or the other happens to them.

Update: I will be changing the creature in the art as I now have a much more unique and interesting interpretation of Mr. Myth. The working name I'm using for the threat. I could see Aiden or Maggie coining the name as they try tiredly to research what exactly he could be and settling on that as a moniker out of frustration.

And that makes sense! It would be strange for them to all die from the creature. We can have some happy endings right?

Maggie is going to come up with a brilliant name after calling him Mr. Myth. Meanwhile, Aidan will not take it seriously. She is so far thinking of calling him dipshit, but it’s a work in progress xD
