Sleeping Giants: Melodies of Memories Past

Fantasy on the outside, sci-fi on the inside - a sprightly group of scavengers from a post-post-apocalyptic agrarian society discover a sacred tomb of their ancestral warmongering Magi, and wake the sleeping giants within. Nothing is the same again - news of the discovery spreads like fire, and our motley crew of unwilling heroes are forced to quickly decide what to do with their newfound power, before someone decides for them.

Additional Information

 • Detailed-level futuristic roleplay
 • 6 to 12 players
 • The world is post post-apocalyptic, which means that it's been long enough since a major apocalypse that civilization has restarted.
 • From an OOC perspective, this is a scifi RP. From an IC perspective, it's a fantasy RP.
 • There will be opportunities to play characters who aren't necessarily scavengers - such as townsfolk or aristocrats or warlords.

Any questions?

I am certainly into joining!

I shall start with a simple question!

Will there be set roles/requirments/thingstokeepinmind for those specifically within the spritely crew of motley scavengers?

Indeed, King! The story opens up in a small farming and ranching community called Shayn, this is where most of the beginning of the RP will happen. The entire region - lovely craggy mountains that slope into wide-open plains - is an archeological dig waiting to happen. Buried everywhere, if you know what you're looking for, are remnants of the Magi - a powerful civilization that came before ours. Finding artifacts from the Magi and selling them off makes good money, if you're willing to dig around in the dirt for tiny metal fragments. This is the basic motivation of the scavenging industry.

Beyond that, perhaps your character is a tinkerer who enjoys trying to figure out how some of the Magi's elaborate contraptions worked. Maybe they just like to bring beer and watch their friends do dumb shit for money. Maybe your character has the Gift, and is looking for some clue from the Magi on how to control their own gift of magic (and yes, there is a certain kind of magic in this setting).

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

INTERESTED!~~~~~~~~~~

@simj22

I do, but you know how my schedule is, what with my MANDATORY CONSCRIPTION.

I'll maybe put something in if I have the time though, even though the more uh, 'flamboyant' mecha stuff is more up my alley, cause this sounds pretty interesting,

I'm glad to see so much interest! I won't be able to work on this while I'm at work, but I'll be checking in periodically to answer short questions.

I haven't decided which way I'll go between a couple RPs, but I'm watching this one closely. Please tell me when the sheets come out.

I'll get to work on writing down some more setting information for you guys, and I'll try to browse some pictures to get the aesthetic down.

I'm interested. I have a few questions though. Were the Magi civilization technologically advanced, or magically advanced? I supposed is it kind of like Legend of Korra where they combine magic with some amount of technology, or like Warhammer 40k where the civilization no longer has any clue how to build their tech and they worship the tech of past?

@TurtleBay I've never dabbled in the 40k universe, but based on what little you've just said in your post, I would say it's definitely more like that. All magic as modern society knows it is the remnants of extremely powerful, widespread, futuristic technology. It influences their art and culture, and their religion.

Metagaming will be the biggest issue that we'll face in this RP, in my opinion, because there's a lot of information about the technology and how it works that your characters won't know because it's been lost and forgotten - but you guys will probably need that information for context's sake.

I have reached six pages on this Google Doc of story information, and there's still more to go.
