Alexandria Noting steered her ship into the port of a small unnamed island near Scotland. It was crowded, dirty, and had at least one bar on every road. In other words, the perfect place to find people for her new crew. After landing, Alex took one last look at The Sparrow and, after making sure to double check the locks, headed to one of the more popular bars, situated a few blocks from the main docking bay. It was called "Queen Ann's Revenge" which was the name of some famous Earth That Was pirate ship. Queen Ann's was popular for three reasons. The bartenders were nice, they had amazing nachos, and they had no problem serving minors, something the nineteen year old captain was particularly thankful for. She entered, looking about for possible shipmates, but there were far too many to choose just a few to talk too. Never mind that though, Alex, as usual, had a plan. She sat at the bar and ordered a plate of nachos and a cup of "whatever you have that is best for boosting courage" as she had said to the bartender, and waited for the right time to strike. After about five minutes she nodded to herself, took one last gulp from her drink, and stood on her stool, hopefully drawing the attention she desired. She took a deep breath and spoke loudly, over the buzz of conversation.

"How many of you want to go on an adventure?"

Daygo was sitting in the bar drinking alone, since he was now jobless because his old pirate crew died a few weeks back. All of a sudden a beautiful young girl walked in and said " how many of you want to go on an adventure." Daygo was shocked at her courage to just go in some dirty old bar and ask that, because the bar is just full of thieves, murderers, and other criminals. Daygo himself is a wanted man, for his crimes he committed as a pirate. His wanted poster is up all over the place in the richer, more populated islands. That's why he lives on this small, dirty, crime infested island. Daygo got up out of his seat and left his beer at his table. Before he got up he looked at the two men sitting next to him and said "if any of you touch my drink, I'll kill you on the spot." Daygo walked over to the young girl and said "what is this "adventure" you speak of? You probably don't want me joining anyway because I am a wanted man."

Alex climbed down from her stool and sat. She smirked at the stranger, a tall man with a very interesting tattoo on his face.

"Well bug guy, it really depends on what you're wanted for. See, the adventure? Its joining my crew. You know, my crew of pirates. So "Wanted Men" are kinda on my list of possible crew mates. I'm Captain Alexandria Noting, or Alex to my friends. Maybe Captain Noting, or just Captain depending on how much I like you. Whats your name?"

She held out her hand for him to shake.

Daygo extended his hand and shook Alexandria's hand. He said "Nice to meet you Alexandria, you can call me "Daygo". What I'm wanted for is, well let's see." He stopped for a moment to think. "Piracy, thievery, killing ten? No twenty? Thirty? Forty? Soldiers in the government. It's hard to remember how many these days." He said while smiling, but it was all true what he said. He honestly couldn't remember how many soldiers he killed, but it was some number above fifty. "So would you like to tell me what the "adventure" is? Or are you scared I'll get the crew in trouble, because of my background." He said while smiling once again.

"I fear very little Mr. Daygo. Of course, I am not without fear, nobody is. Large arachnids, for example. I do not fear "getting in trouble". And I certainly do not fear you. I would recommend you keep that in mind. To answer your question, the adventure is joining my crew, having fun, and causing havoc. Something it seems you enjoy quite a bit. If you join, I suppose you would be our merc, meaning that you are my main fighter. Basically you keep the people we don't like off our back, using whatever force you deem necessary. Now, you do seem to have some... issues with authority. I need everyone on my crew to follow my orders. I know people like you sometimes have problems taking people like me, younger than you, female, pretty faced, seriously. I expect that if you have these reservations, you suppress and remove them. That won't be a problem, will it?" She smiled at him sweetly, looking him dead in the eyes.

"I'll join it sounds like my type of job. I'll be loyal to you, and follow orders only from you, captain." He said while looking into her eyes. She had a strong gaze, it alone almost persuaded him to join here crew. There was something he saw in her, that he couldn't really explain. He then said "so what should we do now, wait for more people to join us?" He asked. He walked over to his seat and saw his drink was missing more then what he drank from it. He simply looked at the two men sitting next to his seat. "Now what did I tell you two?" He said coldly. He picked up glass bottle and smashed it over the man to his lefts head, them elbowed the man to the right in the face, knocking them both out of consciousness. Daygo said "come here." To Alexandria, gesturing to the seat next to him. He purchased two drinks and handed one to Alexandria.

"Yeah, that was my plan. Just wait for more people." She grabbed her nachos and sat next to him, taking the offered drink. She took a small sip and decided to make a joke. Time to see if this guy has a sense of humor. She thought.

"Wow, murder and thievery I can understand, but buying a drink for a minor? You really are a criminal." She smirked and took another sip.

It was busy at Queen Anne's Revenge. Good for business surely and would probably keep Danny's father off his mother's back for awhile. But still, as Danny washed dish after dish in the back room, the sores in his hands ached and his shoulder hurt from last night when his father came home and slammed him up against the wall. His mother cried over little Eleanor as the night terrors went on.

Couple of the bartenders came in and dropped some more dishes and told Danny to go out front to clean up some tables. So when Danny finished he wiped his hands on his stained apron and went out. His mother was at the front, making a drink for some woman standing next to a big man. He heard the woman shout from the kitchen for adventurers to join her. The man must have took the bait.

Danny sighed and cleaned off the table like he was told, every once in awhile he looked back at the two. His mother called him over from behind the bar.

"Danny," She whispered. "I want you to go introduce yourself to that woman over there. Captain Alexandria, I think her name is. You go over and be nice to her and that man, Daygo."

"Why?"He asked. It was his mother's policy that he would never ever talk to the customers.

"Because...what happened last night. You know I can't let that ever happen again and I fear that we don't know when a chance like this is ever going to come around again. You're almost a man, Danny. You ought to make a name for yourself in this world and this might be it. See if they'll take you on their adventures."

"But I... I don't want to leave you and Ellie."

"But what about adventures? What about those stories I read to you? You always wanted to go and now here's your chance."

He pondered this for a moment.

"I'll try. I mean, I'll talk to them."

She gave him a quick hug. He slowly approached the pair and with a small shy voice, he said. "Hullo, Captain Alexandria, I'm Danny." He glanced back at his mother. "I'd like to join you on your adventures. I can, I can hold my own and I can do the cleaning and cooking. I learned cooking from my mum." His accent was thick. "I won't be a burden or anything..." He chewed his lip.

Alex put down her drink and turned towards the small voice. It was... a little boy? That was unexpected, to say the least. "Hello there. Uh- aren't you a bit... young to be working on a pirate ship? You can't be more then eleven. I mean, I shouldn't really judge you based on your age, but still... The problem is that we will be getting into fights, probably lot. It would be pretty awful of me to bring you into that. You could get hurt really bad. Are you sure you want to get into that?"

"Well first of all." Danny said. "I'm not eleven, I'm thirteen. Second of all, you must not be around these parts, else you'd know that people round here aren't all fun and dandy. Not like the main land. I read books about pirates and it ain't no different."

Danny's mom was watching from the side. She finally stepped in.

"Excuse me, ma'am, um miss... Danny's a good boy and he knows how to handle himself. He's a survivor in many ways." She grew a bit more delicate as she spoke. "I know he looks small but, he's got to start somewhere. And believe me, he's in many ways, strong enough for any crew."

"I can handle this, mum." He said. "I can cook, clean, and tie knots. I'm a fast learner. I can handle a ship. If that's all you're worried about then... I'm as good as any man."

His voice betrayed him a bit but in some ways he imagined himself like he was the hero in one of his stories. And he imagined that one day, he's save his mum and sister from his evil father.

"Oh yeah buying a drink for a minor is going to get me put away for a long time" Daygo said jokingly to Alexandria. Then a small boy walked up to them, trying to join the crew, Daygo didn't like the idea of kids in the crew. Daygo whispered to Alexandria "you really want a kid with us? He is just gonna slow us down."

She smiled a bit at the boy. He reminded her a bit of herself when she was young.

"If you're completely sure, I suppose I want as many men as I can, eh? I only have three conditions. One, you do as I say. That is very important for a lot of reasons. Two, you need to keep in touch with your family. You need to have somebody to ground you, keep you sane. I never had anybody like that as a kid, and now I'm the one armed captain of an illicit group of thieves and pirates. And lastly, you need to let me teach you any sort of fighting you don't yet know. I get that you can fend for yourself, but I would just be more comfortable if I knew for a fact you could defend yourself. Deal? Oh, and I'll need to be sure its okay with your mum."She looked up at the woman, who she assumed was the boys mother.

Before Danny could even react, his mother reached out for her hand. "Oh, a thousand thanks! You don't know how great this news is."

"Yes, ma'am," Danny said to the captain. "I'll do my best. I can do anything I put my mind to, ma'am. Thank you, I'll be the best swordsman the Earth has ever seen when you're done with me. I promise."

He turned to his mother, whose eyes were watering in what seemed like relief. She was smiling but there was something sad in her eyes. "I'll be alright, mum. And I'll write to you and Ellie every day about my adventures."

"Oh, you're a good lad, my boy." She gave him a kiss and dried her eyes. His mother went back to the bar, smiling.

Danny turned back to the crew and looked at the large man, Daygo, his mother said his name was. The boy held out a hand. "I'm Danny, sir." Then he finally said. "Where will we go first?" Danny imagined all the fantastical places he would go.

Alex leaned back and murmured into Daygo's ear.

"Look, I'm not asking you to be his dad or anything. Just, try to be nice as you can to the kid. Give him a chance. If you can't bring yourself to do that, just ignore him as best you can. You'll never even know he's there."

She went back to Danny.

"Well, once we finish getting a crew together, My plan was to head down to the surface, have a look around. Apparently Earth That Was Scotland is amazing. Ah, that reminds me. I'm going to have to make sure I have a mask in your size."

Daygo said to Alexandria "ok fine." He then turned to Danny and shook his hand and said "call me Daygo." "So Alexandria, you have a ship I suppose? What are we doing and where are we heading to first?" Asked Daygo. Daygo observed the boy and was curios why his mom wanted him to be a pirate. His curiosity got the best of him so he said "Danny, is it? Yeah Danny, so why does your mom want you to join us?"

"Thanks, Captain." Danny said.

Danny turned back to Daygo. "Well, since we're crew, I don't see why I should hide anything. Mum and dad haven't been doing well something about the business. Dad's been out a lot drinking and he comes home and... well... you know. My mom's got to care for Ellie, my sister you see, but she can't leave my dad cause she doesn't have any money and she wouldn't be able to pay for an education or anything. So I guess, it's either this or living here with my dad. And she wants me to go off on my own, save some money to buy a house for her and Ellie, away from my dad. That's what she says. That's what I'll do."

Danny bit his lip again and cleaned his hands on his apron one more time. "So what about you two. Are you guys really pirates, all your life?"

Alex leaned forward in her chair, picking idly at her nachos as she spoke.

"Actually, no. The pirate thing is sort of new actually. I've been a liar, a thief, a surface goer, and a flyer my whole life, but I suppose I've never combined the four into one profession before. It was once I got my ship that I decided to be a captain. The Sparrow is her name, she's the most beautiful ship you'll ever lay your eyes on." She gazed dreamily into the distance, thinking about the only item she's ever really cared for.

"I have been a pirate my whole life." He said to Danny. He looked at Alexandria and said "wait.. What! You've been to the surface? What's down there!" He always wanted to see the surface, but never had the correct equipment to do it. He spent all his time flying his ships and attacking military ships. He studied Alexandria knowing that she has more to her then meets the eye.

Alex sat up, breaking out of her daze.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. When I was... Ten it must have been, I stole this little ship and a mask, I went down and explored this amazing place, it was down in this place called London, one of the cities they never bothered to rebuild up here. It was amazing. There was this huge clock tower and a "ferris wheel" which they called The London Eye. I've been going down whenever I can ever since. I even bought a mask of my own. I do have spares, a lot of them, for you guys, until you get a chance to buy your own. I know a great shop that builds them, same place that built my arm."

She self consciously flexed her right arm, turning her wrist.

"But yeah... Thats our first stop. Surface Scotland."
