hi everyone!! sorry for the delay, i just got off my 12hr shift and got situated at home. i have another 12hr tomorrow (i’m a nurse), so after i finish my dinner i’m probably gonna toss out my idea for an oc here in ooc. i just wanted to say hi now that i’m home

okay, so, excuse any brain rambling that makes no sense and pls tell me if i'm doing something wrong or have missed anything so far! i just really wanted to get a quick idea out before i legit pass out in my bed bc my brain is exhausted. i am on half of a braincell right now.

for my character, i kind of hand in mind this idea of a man who has everything and should feel like he has everything... but whether it's greed or the need to fulfill some hole/emptiness in his life or something else, he's always willing to throw everything away in pursuit of adrenaline? thrill? more than what he has? just the urge to feel something more. maybe a frequent casino goer. gambler. he loves to bet big and win big. even in his day to day life when he's not gambling, he's looking for an opportunity to excite himself by risking everything to see if he loses it all or benefits from his actions.

possibly knight of swords for the court cards and midas for myths? idk if i'm making any sense, i really need sleep LOL but i hope that he might fit in and if not i can probably think of a better character idea when i'm not so tired

also!! for appearances, i'm more of a visualizer and will be dropping in an image. would artwork of like a video game character or just art in general be acceptable? since i'm not too sure what to avoid so it's not too stylistic

Sounds like an interesting addition to the cast.

Using the major arcana he'd probably be the Devil because of his thrillseeking,even more than the Wheel of Fortune.

It does also set the character and his obsessive avarice up for failure considering how the myth turns out. Maybe it’s too early to consider it yet, but a potential aversion out of this failure could lead to the ‘donkey ears’ sequel to the golden touch myth.

Also I may be interpreting things wrong, but I believe Knights represent able-bodied and perhaps proactive individuals who, while still flawed, seek to fulfil their ideals? Which sounds great for a cast of characters anyway!

You caught me, lol. While it does literally translate, it’s also an homage to the great wars between the gods and other races, like the Titans and Giants (also known as the Titanomachy and Gigantomachy).

Oops, forgot the answer this; yes, these indeed work! The appearances are really on a range, since Persona tends to toe the line between realistic and super stylistic anyway.

Well,I just went with one that I thought I could tie into both an interesting ability and a backstory.

Where what ties Delilah and Daphnis together is a love that they were openly punished for and a recognized talent.

The "Daph Punk" wordplay was not evident to me until after the fact.

That's fair! It does make for a very cool persona power. And the "Daph Punk" pun is a pretty funny coincidence and a cool design overall. Makes me wish I went with something less basic lmaoo

I decided on a persona and then made a character, but Loretta still ended up being mostly her own thing. She's verymuch inspired by the assertion Ovid's telling of Arachne was a reprensentation of his attempt to make art under tyranny and how that reframes the figure's actions. Loretta is a mix of that idea of like, principled but self destructive defiance and a kinder take on a punk character? Spikes and sharp words yes, but also trying to help the community and whatnot.

On a more superficial note, Loretta likes making murals! I just didn't find a conveinent place to mention that in her sheet.

Daph Punk is a wild connection and I love it.

I find Arachne to be a very interesting allusion (I like spider-based characters anyway), so I’m looking forward to seeing how Loretta is written. I do get the impression that Loretta is the kind of person to excel at something for the sake of defiance, which adds to the Arachne myth.

I did something similar in choosing Ganymede before fully conceptualising Avery, but I had been toying with an idea similar to Higuruma’s introduction in JJK, if any of y’all are familiar with that. In fact, Avery’s first ideation came with the phrase “I’m just a good maid” before it turned into a general occupational all-rounder ironically plagued by her own pretty privilege.

I tried to reference Ganymede a fair bit in Avery’s character sheet, such as her beauty. I imagined his mythical curse of immortality in the form of Avery’s growing nihility and suicidal lean, and also loosely tying it to her Chinese culture (something I share) through her Persona’s connection to the moon, which also mythologically represents eternity (Chang’e) while alluding to the moon named after Ganymede.

Meanwhile, Ganymede symbolising homosexual attraction is sorta carried into Avery’s persona (pun intended; I’m going for the low-hanging fruit) of Everett, who is not free from the harassment Avery faced. Small tangent, but I spent quite a while deciding on a name. Avery’s Chinese name (Ruhua) was easy enough to pick, but I wanted a somewhat ‘unique’ anglophonic name since that was her mother’s intention. As for ‘Everett’, Avery would’ve chosen a plainer male name if not for her wanting to respect the name her mother gave her and thus chose a similar-sounding alias. ‘Bona’, while simply meaning ‘good’, was a balance between an ideal that Avery hoped her male alias would fulfil and an inconspicuous last name.

While unintentional (I had originally wanted to choose the Knight of Wands minor arcana but that was taken), I realise Avery’s arcana of Knight of Cups can link to Ganymede being both a cup-bearer and later the constellation Aquarius, albeit in a more literal manner. Either way, she would have a twisted connection to the latter arcana, in that she would probably be innately similar to the typical arcana’s portrayal, but was forced to deviate from it, at least on a surface level.

I can yap way more about my thought process in writing up Avery but I think I’ve taken enough advantage of this excuse to infodump lol

path to nowhere is just TOO good ngl. shalom is wife and i think i'm planning on using a path to nowhere character for my oc's appearance bc i cannot help myself. my pinterest board has too many ptn characters for me not to use


also, i'm glad that you guys like my midas guy! i'm gonna get to working on his character sheet this morning once i've fully woken up and also look over the characters posted bc i'm very excited that i have time today to get to know the gang. i was able to skim over the character creation section during work but now i get to actually take my time with reading through it all
