Oh I'm going to roll no matter which he picks. I'm just letting him pick the approach. Afureru is very hard to hit. Sigrdrifa will have to roll well to do anything to her.

Sigrdrifa doesn't need plot armour, though. Afureru can't hurt Sigrdrifa. Sigrdrifa can walk away at any time and Afureru can't stop her. She's only going to do that if Embrace is also withdrawing or is already re-dead. Sigrdrifa has zero intention of killing Afureru, even if she is really angry with her.

Zoya's gonna yell at the kids to get them to sit down and talk like grown ups. Hopefully no bones or friendships need to be broken.

On that subject, I know Wlf's post dealt mostly with combat, but how do y'all feel about having large social combat dice pools thrown at you?

I'd be fine with it, but I think the plan for this game was to resolve social stuff between our characters through OOC discussion, without rolling dice (I may be wrong).

So mounted on a tyrant lizard (or any legendary size thing) with a reach weapon is one of the best ways to game the 3e combat system. Sigrdrifa stands no chance if she plays fair. Forcing Afureru to dismount is a win. In the interests of fostering Wlfsamurai's desired spirit of collaborative storytelling, instead of doing what's mechanically optimal, you can pick what Sigrdrifa does:

A) She dashes under Beast in shadow form, grabs him by the tail, and either throws him away or at Tyree as a distraction while Afureru dismounts.

B) She leaps onto Beasts back to try to grapple and throw Afureru off.

C) She aims to slow Afureru down without harming her, tearing a huge chunk of stone from the earth to huge wall between her and Aleifr.

Ooh. Thats tough. B could lead to a pretty cool fight on top of a dinosaur. And I do kind of want to see a lizard be thrown. Would be an epic Sigfrida move.

If our ooc goal is to set up a PvP with the two, then getting them to equal ground would be our best bet.

We can say the throw is an automatic success (to get past Affys attempt at defending it). Or if you want to stay mechanical, I'll just give it a 5 die buff instead of going all out.

As a note, Afureru wasn't going to bring the tyrant lizard in. She was going to dismount on her turn, if you wanted to take a different action.

Sig and Affy could probably cut each others limbs off one moment then go drink together a laugh at who now has the prettier nub.

I'm perfectly okay with social actions against Afureru. No objections from me if you wish to take that route.

Affy has a defining principle backing the action though. And might burn a point of willpower the first attempt.

Also! White Reaper Style. If the form is active, try to do the attempts before Afureru starts gaining Halo's. Each one increases her resolve by 1.

Would it be better if I edit Tyree's action to not attack, even with a Withering Strike?

No! You’re good as long that’s what you want to do. Well resolve that shortly.
I just want to make sure that I don't ruin the game. If you say its ok, I'll continue. Tyree is feeling very hostile towards this woman.

I am perfectly happy to let the dice tell me what Sigrdrífa thinks and feels. The Red Rule is the plot armour equivalent for social influence, and I can invoke it if I violently disagree with a direction of influence.

At this point, looks like the line was crossed, so rolling Join Battle. I'll wait for the dust to settle before worrying about social actions.

Now then! Would i defend and then dismount if Defense failed? Or do I need to choose now which to attempt?

Also! What die would this be requiring? Afureru has a 5dv usually. Or would I need to spec the roll for the ride ability?

And lastly! Would the legendary size increase the difficulty or Defense against the grapple by a smaller, albeit solar, opponent?

Legendary Size usually makes it impossible for a smaller target to grapple Beast. I'm only even attempting it because Nine Aeons Thew gives Sigrdrífa infinite strength for the purposes of determining if she's allowed to try a feat of strength. This roll isn't actually for the grapple control, though. This is just a roll to hit before the gambit is attempted. She just has to get her hands on Beast for this part, the next part is the bit where she rolls to wrestle him.

We are well outside what the mechanics were designed to handle, so I won't shed any tears if it's determined she can't do this.

I dont mind at all, actually. I was going to give a minimal Defense so you could throw beast. I just need to know how to apply them. By itself the tyrant lizard has a Parry DV of 6. So that might be what is applied if not Affys 5.

And I think the only charm that I could use to apply to beast is a Ride Excellency.

I'm mostly curious of what my options are. Namely the dismount. And if I need to make an athletics roll for that.

Okay, so. The dismount will be a reflexive action just because I’m trying to make this easy.

So, I think you have two choices:
  1. Dismount (reflexively for free, essentially)
    1. In this case, the Tyrant Lizard’s Defense (higher of Evasion or Parry) is used against Sigrdrifa’s attack
  2. Do not dismount
    1. Your Defense is used against Sigrdrifa’s attack, +1 for being mounted against a non-mounted close-range fighter without a reach weapon.

To be clear, too. D. Rex D. Rex , if you don't dismount and Sigrdrifa "hits" and pulls off the gambit, you go flying with the Tyran Lizard.

Sorry, left that part off.

Its all good! I'll dismount when I have the chance to post. Or you can assume a dismount if you want to move things along.

Which stats were we using for your Lizard again? The Tyrant Lizard stats in the book? Or something a little smaller to keep the Merit lower?

Edit: I ask because the Tyrant Lizard from the 3e core book has a Defense of 6 and I want to be sure Random Word Random Word has it to keep the roll going.

Evasion: 4
Parry 6
Soak hardness: 15/5

These are the defenses of the Tyrant Lizard. I have its write up in Afurerus character sheet so that you can reference it without needing to go to the book, with the only difference being an adaptation for the cold.

Use Evasion. It is the lowest of its DVs so it should be easier to hit.

So, Sigrdrifa would use the higher of the two values as the Lizard's Defense.

Unless Wlfsamurai makes a special exception, in general you can't reflexively dismount when someone attempts a gambit against you. There is an 'unhorse' gambit that deals one flat level of bashing and leaves you prone. If you could reflexively dismount to negate it, that would probably be spelled out. You could voluntarily suffer an unhorse gambit to avoid being grappled?
