Are you or any one else (say maybe D. Rex D. Rex D. Rex D. Rex as our Dawn) considering the option of troop training Charms? (Charisma for Lunars)
I've considered the Lore-based ones for Zoya, but having to commit your own xp puts a damper on my enthusiasm. I'm not entirely opposed to picking War as one of my "starts at 1, but I'll totally buy it later" Caste/Favored abilities, but it's really not where she is now.

Yeah that's always the kicker with the Charms that train circle mates. Hopefully Wake the Sleeper and possible expansions to it are more than enough to make Lore worthwhile for you though.

I noticed the pattern as well haha.

Speaking of, I'm considering a slight shift to Appearance 4 instead of Charisma 4 to start with Appearance being the lead from the front attribute in warfare over the lead from the back or center and bark orders.

I realize it's something you already do with a current character of yours so I'm fine picking it up later in Toun's progression as the earliest Lunars and non-Supernal Solars could learn them would be E2 anyway.
I had not planned that far ahead for her yet.

However, I did make it a favored trait not just because it is something she knows well enough.

While she currently isn't well versed in military subtleties, it would be a likely evolution of skills.

For example, if she mastered White Reaper style. And someone else was able to put some enligjtment charms for mortals to use essence. She begins sharing her martial art with that group. Could making for increasingly effective troops.

Hmmm. It might not be unwise to switch supernal from Martial Art to War if I go that way.

Sure, a MA supernal lets me fast track it the super white reaper charms, but since I would not likely be taking the super expensive route of learning multiple martial arts, I would be able to get more out a War supernal than an MA one.

Furthermore, we have no shortage of fantabulous warriors. And it would help to have someone to lead them. And her concept supports the idea of her going from a lone crazy soldier to wanting to become a golden General to better protect Creation. And would give her a more clear motivation.

Thoughts? I am more than happy to make the switch if nobody wants to involve themselves with War charms.

Though I do not have any familiarity yet with War in exalted.

I'm in Lore to predict the downfall of our enemies. That and Wyld Shaping

If you're only planning on picking up one style, I don't think Martial Arts Supernal is worth it. MA Supernal is for those characters who want to dive into a ton of styles and maybe strive to unlock Sidereal Martial Arts.

A bit of wisdom I'm starting to see myself.

It would be an easy change. Removing 2 ma charms and putting them to War. And maybe switch a few abilities around.

Easily explained that the supernal represents her untapped potential from her past experience.

I think Esbilon has the right of it. Unless there's things in martial arts that you absolutely need right now maybe give it a pass. Alternatively, if you don't see anything you need in other Abilities until later then go for it. By E3, supernals mean little to nothing anyway as high essence Charms are buried so deep in the tree you'll raise your essence just buying pre req charms.

I'm a silly man with a penchant for building generalists. Supernals are often wasted on me. So take my opinion with a grain of salt here.

No worries! I value the opinion of those with experience over my own!

Also! War give me a good reason for trying to find a simhata or something for my ride skill.

My particular influence and Sorbiquet would also likely be able to help with War. Making it easier to rout the enemy in fear, and making it easier to rally to a war "hero". So once she raises her banner, people will know what's about to go down.

Hmm, just a thought exercise here... is there anything in higher essence Ride you might want? Especially if you're tag teaming with a supernatural "steed"

Looking at them, probably the one that stands out the most to me is Hero Rides Away. Nothing of the high essence really stands out. Survival has a lot of the cool ones that would bring out the best in a creature.

I see... in 2E I think there was a ride charm that let your mount use your Martial Arts and Charms. Were that still a thing in 3E, Afureru and Tyree would be a far more amazing duo.

That would be absolutely horrifying. For the enemy.

Sadly I didn't see such a thing upon looking through it.

Sorry to interrupt.

Just letting you all know that I've finally decided on my character's concept/backstory. He's now an agent of the Spider King with the name of Makuro and a spider for his totem, and I'm currently thinking that, after spending roughly a year post-Exaltation training within the Mountain of the Spider King, he gets sent to Whitewall by his mentor to investigate/help out the rest of the Celestials there (all seven of them).

Just something I've noticed, Epiphany Epiphany , but you've got Backing as a one-dot Merit. The lowest level you can get that Merit is two dots in Third Edition.

I can make some slight changes to get a Command merit of 2 for a military force of Size 3, Might 0, and an Average Drill.

Or a simhata, if I wanted. However, I thinking finding a proper Simhata would be more fun than herding the start of an army together.

Would I be allowed to have the ●● Command merit? It would grant me a talon to a wing of soldiers, however much you determine it to be.

Basically the idea being that this force she gathered to take on the predators of the North. Barbarians, gangs, raiders, fae, and the like. Most likely made up of people who used to fight for fortitude but share her desire for the second chance, farmers and natives who seek to protect their land, or barbarians and mercenaries looking to serve with a legend.

What do you think?

D. Rex D. Rex regardless of who is the primary lead for training troops, Toun will eventually build a command merit. Do you mind the overlap? I suspect no, but I don't want to assume.

You've gotta think about what the source of your Command is. Are these people with personal loyalty to you, or are they troops your leading on someone else's behalf?

Nevermind. I forgot to check things before posting... Command troops are personally loyal. Gotta think about why then!

I dont mind at all! If anything it would be beneficial as we would both have different sorts of charms regarding war and they can be used to build on each other, solar and lunar. Not to mention the imagery of a sun and moon being all the more iconic. Plenty of other cool stuff we can play it too.

If Afureru is a legendary warrior travelling from Fortitude to Whitewall (and thus along the coast of the White Sea) recruiting a band of monster hunters that's a pretty strong reason for Sigrdrífa to have met her. Sigrdrífa needs to accomplish some number of heroic feats before she's allowed to go home (Probably like seven or something. It's an impossible make-work task one of her shamans gave her to keep her away from the servants of the Lover Clad in the Raiment of Tears until she's strong enough and also a narrative conceit to explain why she's far from home for the duration of the campaign and always eager to get stuck into the biggest problem she can find.), and she is so here for 'Lgendary warrior forming a band of monster hunters.'

Lol Afereru seems to be turning into the Lu Bu of the North.

Well Sigrdrífa is more than welcome to have joined up or travel with them! Any additional companions, especially exalted ones, would make them all the more fearsome. Double the legend!

You've gotta think about what the source of your Command is. Are these people with personal loyalty to you, or are they troops your leading on someone else's behalf?

Yup. Loyalty comes standard. But the thought of their origin is not lost on me.

A first it could have been while she was near Fortitude, those who came to kill her. A simple as enemies who sought to hunt her down being won over by the solar brilliance of an exalted. With a reputation of knowing she could cut through them being the catalyst for their turning coat. After that, her dedication to turning over a new leaf inspiring loyalty in them, cleansing from them the dark thirsts they once held in Fortitude.

A small grouping at first, but growing as she moved onward. People she protected, their sons and daughters joining in to make their land a better place. Barbarians she defeated joining for glory. And mercenaries looking for a steady gig stuck around, becaming infected by the growing cause.

However! Afureru doesn't have the resources to maintain an army. And she does not wish to raid for supplies. It might be an idea that she takes her army to the noble Whitewall to petition for resources so they can make the North safer.

I really like the sound of all of this. Looking forward to fighting alongside monster hunters as a giant monster. For now I'm going to have deal with the Karkinos form as my primary siege form.

I didn't think we'd tackle the Tear Eaters either but it sounds like a fantastic milestone to aim for.

What are the Tear Eaters?
