it'll be hard to reply in general due to Finn being the main source to move onto the next...event

Probably until we have Finn's player respond, assuming they're still planning on it, we can perhaps come up with a different activity to play out in the meantime?

For a new years event, maybe once the fireworks are concluded, folks are going to watch the sunrise up on a hill (similar to in Mineral Town)? Or we could say there are other games on location, or people can start planning what their resolutions/plans for the next year are?

Ooh, watching the sunrise would be cute! I could see it as being a nice conclusion (and beginning) to things!

Though there could also be a mini convo about new years resolutions and what everyone hopes to achieve as a side thing until Finn is able to respond - I can have Alani bring it up (chronic yapper that she is) and we can go from there?

I think having a mini conversation is a good idea. That way, we can hold off on story progression so Finn's player has time to respond, while continuing on the rp + characters forming connections. Having Alani bring it up would be great
