Asher couldn't help but laugh a bit as Felix reacted to the cold water running down his back. As the water hit Asher he basked in its cool refreshing qualities. "well yeah hence why I thought it might..." Asher was cut short as terror took over his body as he suddenly felt Felix's weight leave his shoulders falling backwards. You Idiot!!! You let go of him!! These thoughts darting through his mind as he spun around heart skipping several beats worry and terror filling his body at the thought of what he might see as he turned. " FELIX!!!" his voice was filled with the waning like that of someone about to cry. Asher was incredibly relived when he turned and saw Felix safe and sound on his own two feet. Wait?!? did he just? He just dismounted me Holy shit that scared the ever living crap out of me. Asher's face warped to that of a relived but still worried and slight annoyed older sibling. "DUDE!! I thought you fell! You had me scared out of my mind. You didn't hurt yourself did you?" Asher said as he threw all pretenses of their relationship up to this point out of the window him grabbing Felix and seemingly inspecting that the twelve year old was indeed okay. Through all this Asher had completely missed Felix's first statement.

Asher looked at Felix as he began "going off" a bit realizing fully the kind of impression he had made on the boy. Asher though after yesterday was not in the mood to get all emotional right now so he just shook his head a bit trying to get some of the guilt and regret out of his mind. Still trying to wrap his newly awakened mind around why he did this to people and realizing more and more with every second how badly he must have hurt so many people in his life. "what? no... no its not like that I swear I just... well I could feel your butt burning a hole in my shoulder from all the trapped heat and figured you must be getting kinda hot up there doing all the work... and well I just thought it might be kinda funny... plus I don't think I have ever like seen a Tv show where brothers are washing a car and it doesn't end in a water fight and I just thought... well I guess I just thought we are kinda like brothers right now and I've always wanted to just spontaneously get in a water fight while washing a car like they do on Tv I'm... I'm sorry if I upset you I wasn't trying to we... we can just get back to work." Asher seemed to be trying to make a joke out of the whole situation at first but his waning voice betrayed him a little letting his true feelings inch their way out as he stood and grabbed a sponge to begin working on the side of the van turning his back towards Felix. " And I'm sorry... you didn't deserve any of the things I did to you I was just being a jerk cause well I don't think I really know guess I'm just upset with myself or something... but I'm sorry okay? We don't have to like each other and you don't have to accept my apology lets just get this over with." he mumbled his voice trailing off more and more as he spoke becoming nearly imperviable.

Felix just stood there kinda lost for words as the big mean Jerkface kinda just broke down before him. Not only panicking and showing what looked like genuine concern for his safety but then also started trying to explain his prior actions, and even apologising for the events earlier that day. It was sorta-like emotional whiplash. Seeing Asher go from joking to apologetic, to just returning back to work defeated kinda hurt Felix to see. Like he didn't like Asher but Felix never expected a sincere and venerable response like this. "..."

Felix lowered his guard and instead of sprinting off, slowly made his way over to Asher picking up a sponge and knelt down starting to clean the van besides him with a fresh sponge in hand. "...You know-like that's the first time you didn't just call me a pipsqueak or something right since I got here..?" Felix calmly commented as he started to work. "I know you're right and all but you don't always have to rub it in." Felix gently nudged Asher as he scrubbed away at the dirt with a joking tone of his own in return. Felix wasn't sure what to make of this... He hated bullies... But yet also Felix also knew what it was like to lose his temper and act in a way you wouldn't always.

"Sorry for freaking out at you then. We were told to try and get along and learn to live together." Felix actually swallowing his own pride and trying to meet Asher part way here as he spoke. "Though it's kinda hard for me to believe you'd even try and think of me as a brother when you said I was just an inconvenience nobody wanted...."
Felix continued his voice still sounding pained just repeating that word, a deep nerve still tender. "...Again your probably right since I'm here and all but... After losing one parent and having another hate you ....like-not cool you know?" Felix recognising Asher's previous assault on him being less a personal attack and now just a venting of emotions, though it still clearly hurt him a lot evident by how shaky his own voice was throughout this.

Evelyn sighed a little, sympathetic to the boy's attitude of not liking talking to people, not wanting to make new friends. Yet she also knew that that attitude wasn't going to fly, not in this foster home atleast. "Look at the end of the day, its not my business if you chose to hang out with people or not. But telling you straight, you'll have a way easier time both here in this everchanging house of angst, and at school starting next week if you at least try and hang out with a few people." It wasn't a lecture, it wasn't scolding just a little advise Evelyn thought Jack desperately needed. A soft expression rested on her face as she replied.

"And can ask what happened with Ash?" He isn't the kind of person to open up easily, yet you two seemed to be pretty buddy-buddy at dinner. Given how he practically assaulted the new kid yesterday morning its kind of surprising he suddenly took that much of a u-turn." A searching tone, curious and perhaps worried. "Given you don't even want to say Hi and get breakfast, I can't see you approaching him after that." Evelyn's inquisitive tone remaining pretty chilled and friendly as she sat there, drink in hand ever as casual in her appearance. The teen girl wanting to have not only her finger on the pulse of the house.

"You're also free to ask me questions you know. I don't bite." Evelyn added giving a playful biting expression.

Jack could tel that the teen girl wasn't angry with him, but certainly concerned and worried for him. It was clear that she only had his best interest in mind. The boy frowned, "It's fine, I survived school back at home without a lotta friends.... I'll be fine... I don't need people..." he said softly. And Jack truly believed that. He'd gotten around just fine with only having one or two friends in school. The fact was, he didn't really like to have a lot of friends. It wasn't that he hated people, he was just never good with making friends being so shy and timid. Jack never had the confidence to go out there and meet new people and make new friends.

Jack turned his attentions to the events that had taken place yesterday. His eyes widened as he shrugged his shoulder and looked at Evelyn. "I- I dunno why..." he replied. He thought about telling her how Asher had bullied him, but that he eventually made up for it, but he figured he'd keep that situation on the down low. But Jack wasn't lying: he legitimately wondered how and why he had gotten Asher to open up to him so much. Jack had no clue as to why the boy became so "buddy-buddy" with him. Jack personally didn’t think he was anything TOO special, so why on Earth would Asher choose to open up to him? Jack just shrugged his shoulders again, "I don't know.... I- I guess I didn't want to be rude so I talked to him.... he came to me first..." He looked at the ground. Evelyn's question was cause for some reflection. Jack took a sip of his drink and set the glass down on the desk.

"I'm not saying you have to make friends with everyone, or even close. I don't bother, But this isn't going to be the same as back home, if we like it or not everyone here is kinda forced to be family , in some twisted meaning of the word. So trust me your time here will go a lot easier if you at least know everyone's names. Learn who is good at what." Evelyn explained sympathetically. She'd hardly call anyone except maybe Asher and Mrs Richardson here a friend, even at school she tended to keep to herself. Yet Ev' also learnt years ago she couldn't get away with being a true loner, instead she liked to learn about people keeping everyone as contacts, know everyone's interests since it could be useful down the line. Speaking of she knew not to push too hard - seemed Jack wasn't going to say anything yet. Too bad but still, since she was here.

"Well different topic then Hockey Boy. Your obsessed with your sharks, and sounds like you've been since you were little?" Evelyn questioned. "That mean you play as well? Guessing you got a stick and skates of your own stashed away in here?" She continued sounding genuinely curious, and to be honest she was. Jack's behaviour very similar to her own at his age, if you could believe that. She knew little about the sport, but honestly that just served to feed her curiosity.

Jack frowned and rolled his eyes, but not at Evelyn, but rather at the fact that he would essentially have to be "family" with a bunch of strangers he didn't know and had no desire to know. He just shrugged his shoulders and looked at her, nodding his head to let her know he understood. He was hoping for a change in subject, and luckily for the young thirteen year old, that would come. But he still thought about Evelyn's words. Did he need to start talking more and getting out there? He told himself no, and that he would not be changing his ways. He'd gotten around fine before without friends, so what did she know about him? Jack was fine with- and in fact, PREFERRED not being around lots of people, or really only just one or two. He shoved those thoughts in the back of his mind for later reflection and thinking about. Besides, didn't he already kinda of have a friend? Could he consider Asher a friend? Did Asher consider HIM a friend? Jack had no clue, but it didn't bother him too much. He knew he had at least one person he didn't need to avoid or fear talking to. Whether or not he was a friend was up for debate. Jack felt as if they were now friends, but it was a weird thing to define for the young boy who hadn't had too many friends before. He assumed that given their interactions the last night, they could consider themselves friends.

But luckily for Jack, the topic changed, and to something he enjoyed talking about: hockey, and his favorite NHL team. He gave her a weak little smile upon hearing her observation about the boy and his passions. He looked at her shyly, "Heh, y- yea. The Sharks are my favorite team. I cheered for them ever since I was young. My parents were huge fans, and I remember... well the rare times they were home... I remember them watching Sharks games on the TV. Sometimes they'd even take me to games in person when they had the time. But that was rare...." Jack shook his head and tried not to think about it. It always slightly bugged him and bummed him out that his parents never seemed to be home since they were so busy with their job as doctors at the hospital. He turned his focus to answering her suspicions about him playing hockey, "Oh yea," he said looking over at his closet, "I've got my skates and sticks in there, although I can't use the skates down here in Santa Monica... but yea I used to play ice hockey back at home. I've been skating ever since I was 5." Jack told her.

Evelyn listened curiously to Jack speak about his passion. She was never a sports person, and hated the mob mentality that two teams might have for one another. The way everyone just became this crowd of two people shouting the same thing. Yet at the same time Hockey wasn't a huge sport around here, Jack's tastes being a little more eclectic, a little different from the norm which was something she could appreciate. "Sadly not much chance of catching a shark's game live around here, unless its vs the Kings. Still glad to see there's something that you enjoy talking about."

She looked to his closet as he commented about the sticks and skates being in there, Evelyn nudging her head towards it. "Wanna go get 'em, show 'em off, let me have a look?" Evelyn asking and letting Jack to the initiative on boundaries instead of just heading over there, controlling the room was one thing. But she wasn't going to dive into someone's closet or personal belongings. She had the limits to even her audacity. She was genuinely curious though, didn't really know what made a stick good or bad - or what made a good hockey skate.

"Been playing that long, you gotta have some skill then. Were you on a team?" Evelyn commented and questioned - somewhat curious to see if his aversion to people extended to people during his hockey playing or not. "Cus last time I checked Hockey isn't much of a solo sport." Evelyn joked sticking her tongue out a bit playfully.

Jack was well aware that he was in LA Kings territory, being in Santa Monica which was so close to Los Angeles. While yes, it sucked being away from San Jose, his home, he knew that if by some grace of God someone from the house let him see a game, he could go into LA at the Staples center is the Kings ever hosted his Sharks team. "Heh, yea..." the boy said agreeing, smiling slightly as he looked off at the ground. He wished he would be able to see a game in person at the stadium in LA if the Sharks ever visited, but he had a feeling that there would be a fat chance they would take him out of the home and into the city, let alone pay for the expensive ticket to the game. For now, the boy just had to watch the Sharks play hockey on the TV like he usually did.

To an extent, the boy had been raised in that almost "mob-like mentality" of many sports fans in which he was very anti-LA-Kings, since they were probably the Sharks' biggest rivals. Sure there were other teams within that Pacific division in which the Sharks played for, but the other hockey teams in California were certainly a bit more hostile to each other. The games were typically fast and aggressive, and high scoring. The fans typically got more into it during these California team vs. California team games. While Jack was still young and not a grown adult yelling at and heckling LA fans (nor would he ever do that, since it just wasn't in him), he couldn't help but resent the Kings, their fans, and their players a little. Still, the boy had respect for everyone, so he had no ill-will towards anyone. After all, it was just a game. Unfortunately at times, on both sides of the fanbases, there was insulting and fighting verbally between fans of the opposing teams. Jack preferred to watch the fighting be physically and on the ice between player vs. player.

Jack looked at her as she began to seem to take on a genuine interest in his passion for hockey and his time playing it before he got to the home. His eyebrows raised a bit in surprise as she asked him to take out his skates. He got up and walked towards his closet. "
Oh- ok, I'll take 'em out," he said. "They're nothing too special..." the boy told her humbly. As Jack went through his closet and found his skates, he picked them up and told her a little about his time playing on a team before he got to the home. "Yea, I played on a few teams. I've been playing on various different travel hockey teams ever since I was young." Jack told her. He smiled a bit, "And yea.... y- you're right, it's a team sport. I played on a lotta different travel teams. It was fun and all." Jack sat on his bed and put his skates down showing her, letting her take a good look at them. "These are my latest pair of skates, the ones I used on my most recent team." Jack told her.

Asher had gone to quietly washing the van just thinking about things as Felix joined beside him. "Huh I guess it is... You scared the shit out of me I thought for sure I was gonna turn and see your head cracked open on the pavement. " Asher shuddered at the mere thought idea of that situation. There was very little emotion in the way that he was speaking just kind of monotone and blank he didn't know why heck he didn't even realize he was doing it but the thought of finding the twelve year old on the ground like that brought so many emotions he just went sort of blank for a moment. Asher listened as Felix continued a deep cut forming in his heart as Felix mentioned him calling the twelve year old an inconvenience nobody wanted. Did I really say that? man Asher what's wrong with you kid just lost his parents and you say that?!? Asher truthfully didn't even remember the things he had said earlier as he had simply just been spouting off in rage. In fact it was very normal for Asher to forget things he had said or done when angry almost like his subconscious purposefully suppressed it so he wouldn't realize just how much pain he caused people. "Man I did say that didn't I... What a dick!" He said punctuating his final word to emphasize how he felt about his actions. "look I can't promise that I wont be mean ever again I... I just cant I have a lot of things to work through on that front but... I will promise to try and do better and not just be well... you know a jerk or whatever. If you promise to try and have some patience with me and not blow up completely and sucker punch me when I say or do something wrong okay? That way at least we can try and get along and make Mrs. Richardson happy and us not have the stress of constantly being upset with each other. Deal?" His voice sounding more confident now as he laid out his proposition.

His voice then softened entirely becoming fully supportive and sympathetic. "But you listen to me... I was not right... I was completely wrong okay? You are not an inconvenience I'm just a jerk who hurts people for no sane reason... I know what its like to loose your dad... and have a mom who doesn't like you for that matter and I should have never said what I said... I may have been a few years younger than you but I still remember how I felt when I got here... And I may not get everything you are going through but still I get where you are coming from..." Asher thought about saying more as his voice began to crack and his emotions threatened to boil over but decided not to. Asher couldn't bring himself to share like he did yesterday and he certainly didn't want the emotions that came with it. The two boys had been pretty absent mindedly washing the van as they talked and before they knew it the first side was done. Asher picked up the buckets moving them to the other side as they resumed their work.

"Sorry I kinda panicked. Not really knowing what you were doing and-like, you know. It was the fastest way down." Felix replied to Asher's concerns with a bit of an earnest laugh, rubbing the back of his head a little. The boy clearly fine and just casual about what was basically doing a roll off the older teen's shoulders. Felix was still kinda shocked by how genuine his concern for him there was - that wasn't the kind Felix didn't think anyone could fake.

During Asher's next reply however the young boy just kinda went quiet, listening as he worked away scrubbing the side of the van - and moving around to the other side as well. It was painful to listen to. Part of his brain screaming for justice and that Asher was still wrong but Felix tried not to listen to it, as another part of his brain kinda got it. Felix felt like crap being here, but its not like any of the other kid's have had it easy either. "..." Felix's felt the emotional wound burning as Asher spoke, apologising and trying to connect on what happened. His facial expression painted a clear picture for the older teen just how bad the words he didn't even remember had hurt. Though it seemed Asher even understood that now.

"Ash.." Felix also trying to refer to him as something that wasn't Jerkface, or similar. "Okay. Like-I'll promise I'll try and keep my cool, if you can try and stop being such a jerk. If you get all angry and grab me again like I first got here tho, -dunno-like I might. -I've never really been the best at keeping my cool either?" Felix making a loose promise with Asher here, uncertain if he'd be able to actually keep his cool depending on what the jerk, what Ash did. Yet he did genuinely want to try. "So yeah, I-like. I promise to try. I don't wanna be your enemy if we're gonna be living down the hallway, kay?" Felix stood up properly and headed over to Asher offering a hand to shake on this deal down to the teen currently washing the lower part of the van with a bit of a weird smile on his face.

"And you look a bit hot.." Felix replies still holding Asher's hand so he couldn't move away, slapping a overfilled, wet, soapy sponge on the back of Asher's neck practically sticking the thing down his shirt and letting the same cold water and soap run down the teens back and likely down to his butt as well. Felix's weird smile becoming clearly this massive mischievous one as he released the handshake and darted backwards. "You-like said you wanted a water fight!" Felix called out practically unable to contain a bout of laughter taking cover behind the back of the van with one of the buckets.

Evelyn' watched curiously as Jack went over to the closet and took our his skates. As if somehow every movement the boy made would somehow tell her something new - maybe it would or maybe it wouldn't. Yet her nosey sibling dementor was in full force. She was patient as he returned back over, though Jack's choice to sit besides her did make her smile a bit. Clearly the topic of hockey had lowered his guard if he was willing to not only face her now, but also sit besides her and chat.

Evelyn picked up one of the skates placed besides her and turned it over in her hands with a curious expression on her face. Honestly the teen girl had no clue about hockey skates, or hockey rules - closest was that one time she went ice skating - never again. "So got a little hockey-pro on my hands here? Youth play-offs up and down the state?" Evelyn teased but also opening the door for Jack to continue talking. "Don't really know much about the game but, I take it you had a role on the team. Attacker, defender, maybe the big bad goalie?" She nudged gently nudged.

Despite not knowing much about the hardware, she was doing her best to pick up on the little details she could. Trying to figure out the differences between these skates and the more conventional ice skates she was more familiar with. The shorter blade, thicker padding and lining, stiffness. Ev' also spying more personal details like the size written on the tongue, and the general weight, and if there was anything unusual to them. Meanwhile she continued to ask questions. "You'd get along well with your team? Or were you just as quiet on the ice?"

He smiled at her words and held back a little giggle. Jack, humble as always, was never one to brag though. "Heh, y- yea I guess...." he said shyly. The boy remembered all the traveling around the state he would have to do for his various youth team playoff runs. Since his parents were never home to taxi him all around the country, it would always be his nanny.

"
Yea I had a role. I was a winger, I played more of an offensive role," Jack told her. Jack usually played the position of right wing, and his coaches never used him for any sort of physical plays, obviously, as Jack was slimly built and a bit short, and certainly timid and not one to put his body out there on the line like that. Jack's role on the team was to either dish the puck to a teammate to score (assists), or to score a goal himself. His small size made him a fast skater, so he could easily skate by defenders and tuck the puck into the back of the net for the goal.

Evelyn's next question though was some cause for reflection within the young teen boy's mind. He thought back to his various different travel teams. He thought back to his friend and neighbor Mitch, who he would usually be on his travel teams with. His parents would always coordinate with Mitch's parents in order to get the two boys on the same team. Mitch's parents were practically Jack's parents at times, since they seemed to always be home, and Jack's own parents were always away off at work. Mitch's parents had treated Jack like their own, and it made the shy and quiet boy feel welcome.

"
Yea I guess," he told her. He had always gotten along well with his teammates, but he was very very quiet on the ice. He shrugged his shoulders, "I- I guess I was kinda quite on the ice." He thought about telling her about Mitch, his best friend and his only closest friend. Jack didn't have too many friends, but he had allowed Mitch into his life and the two quickly became best friends from a young age, bonded further by playing on a lot of the same travel teams and making it to the playoffs countless times together. Jack decided that it wasn't something he needed to get into, and decided not to think about Mitch. He missed him, but there was no way of finding or contacting the boy now. He sighed quietly, not enjoying being in a foster home. He missed his quiet and relatively uneventful life back at home. Now he was in a big foster home with tons of loud kids, some of which wanted to talk to him, which he hated.

"Winger huh? That sounds cool You the one scoring all the goals then?" Yeah her lack of knowledge was becoming clear, but she was trying her best to take interest in the game. As she kept the conversation going, Ev' could quickly see Jack's mind wander. He was thinking about something, a memory, something that upset him at least. No surprise given she was stepping on his past. " No ferocious fighter that comes out on the Ice then?" Ev' replied jokingly. "Kinda a shame, liked the image of you smashing through a line of big guys." Not really the right sport Ev' but the image still worked.

Evelyn looked back to the skates for a moment turning it over in her hand another time or two. "Looks like they saw some action but still look good." She idly commented. "After the summer these still fit you right, not like outgrown them?" Evelyn offering the skate back after running her finger down the plastic blade-guard. "If it's been a few months since you last had 'em on its worth checking." Evelyn spoke almost authoritatively, almost like an older sibling trying to fill in for a parent might. It was hard to tell what was running through her mind right now. It was clear though she had something in mind, some plan, some goal, it wasn't clear what that was however, just that something about Jack's replies or maybe his expression had sparked something in her.

Jack tried not to think about Mitch and his past too much. The boy returned his attention to Evelyn and her words. The teen girl had gotten a small but shy smile out of Jack as he shrugged his shoulders, "Yea, heh... I was a goal scorer I guess, n- not a fighter at all." Jack couldn't imagine himself even hitting someone on the ice (even though that was a big part of hockey) let alone FIGHTING someone on the ice. He certainly wasn't that type of player. He was the fast skater and goal scorer, not the brute force of the team. Each player had their own role to play on the team, and Jack played his.

His attention turned to his skates, which Evelyn seemed to be analyzing and almost admiring. She seemed really interested in them, and it shocked the boy a little bit. No one had ever taken this amount of interest in him, so it was certainly a different change. Jack's brown eyes landed on his skates. Sure, they were a bit worn down and they had certainly seen action in Jack's last few games before he was sent to the foster home, but they were still in pretty good condition. He wondered about her question, and if they still fit him. Jack didn’t think he had grown too much since the last time he laced up and put them on, but it kind of was a while ago since he last skated and played ice hockey.

Jack approached the older teen and gently took his skates back. He shrugged his shoulders, "
I- I'm not too sure if they fit anymore. I haven't played or skated in a while...." Jack said as he took his skates and put them back into his closet. He he hadn't checked in a while, about a few months in fact. Did the boy grow much? He figured he was only 13, and he still felt pretty short. Did he grow at all? He certainly didn't feel like he did. Maybe the skates would still fit.... "I dunno," said Jack, shrugging as he closed his closet, his skates now resting inside along with various other hockey equipment like sticks. Of course, Jack's newest stick, the Bauer that Asher had gotten him as a replacement for his old favorite stick, was leaning against the wall, ready for quick access in case Jack ever wanted to go back outside to the empty basketball court and practice his shot on a goal post.

"It's okay man I get it you had every right to be a bit on edge with me I just wasn't expecting it." Asher smiled reassuringly over at the boy to let him know he truly wasn't upset about the little scare. Asher was just glad Felix was okay. The two of them continued Idly washing the van as they talked Asher carefully listening to what Felix had to say. Nodding in understanding as the boy laid out his side of their agreement. Asher knew it was very likely they would come into conflict here and there but he was glad they could at least agree to try and put all this mess behind them. Asher was serious about turning over a new leaf in life and this was all part of that growth. He knew it would be hard but when has he ever stepped down from a challenge. It was honestly a needed refreshing sense of pride for Asher seeing just how different and how much smoother his interactions with people actually went when he made the conscious decision not to be a jerk this would certainly give Asher some motivation to keep moving forward with his new perspective on life. Not that he fully knew what that perspective might be but still.

As Felix headed in Asher's direction he cocked an eyebrow noticing the odd smile that had taken the boy's face. He shrugged it off though as a hand was offered to "seal the deal" on their agreement. Asher smiled taking Felix's hand the boy then speaking some very familiar words before Asher had time to think or react he could feel the chill of the soapy water running down his back. A smile spreading across his face as the younger boy made his retreat. " Oh you Little ." he said in a voice full of joy and that tinge of playful your in for it now gruff. Asher stood up grabbing a bucket and plunging in his sponge to get it nice and dripping wet. " I did say that didn't I... Well your gonna get it now!" He said as he suddenly took off in a mad dash for the boy water from his bucket sloshing about everywhere. As he got close enough Asher plunges his bucket forward with both hands sending its contents flying in Felix's direction. Then quickly making a b-line for a third and so far untouched bucket of water that sat near the water hose. A huge smile on his face as he laughs uncontrollably.

Kay Felix... You started this, now how do you go about winning thi-? "Oh fudge!" Felix's eyes opened wide as Asher took the entire bucket and came charging at him. The preteen injured as he was, knew he couldn't pull the same off right now. Fight or flight time. Felix took off in a dash attempting to get to the other van instead for cover though before he could cross the distance suddenly found himself under assault from the bucketed-torrent. Felix became just soaked, head to toe.

Felix sputtered, his hair styling out the window face dripping - shaking his head like a dog caught out in the rain trying to get the water out of his eyes. All the whole laughing, practically giggling about this. Okay this was fun. As he reopened his eyes he saw Asher already darting for another bucket - and the water hose. Thinking fast Felix grabbed one of the wet sponges now on the ground and took aim, awaiting for Asher to come close before lobbing it forwards. "Not gonna make it that easy!" Felix called out aiming for the bucket Asher was about to pick up, in hopes that the already-heavy sponges impact would send a bigger splash of water back up at Asher.
Felix hoping Asher would be momentary startled and caught in the hopefully successful splash, much as he was a second ago. Felix quickly running for cover again though this time trying to not only get protection but hide his position behind the nose of one of the van's ducked down how using his small frame to his advantage. Felix hoping if Asher hadn't seen him to maybe try and do a run-around on Asher, keeping quiet and hidden behind the vans until he could sneak up behind and hit him with another extra-soapy sponge in the back of the head.

Felix not realising Asher could defeat the hiding hit-and-run plan with ease (if he caught on and was smart enough), just checking under the van - the boy's feet not easily concealed unless just by coincidence of the tires being in the way. He didn't see the error in his own tactics, though possibly Asher in his excitement might not either.

Asher reached his target another full bucket of water to soak his opponent with, as he bent to pick it up he hear Felix call out from his left causing Asher's head to turn to the direction of the twelve year old. As he did he saw a sponge flying through the air solidly connecting with the bucket just barely in Asher's grasp causing the water inside to slosh about and splash up nailing Asher directly in the face. Asher now temporarily blinded and disoriented as he shook his head trying to clear the water from his eyes. It only took a few moments and Asher could see clearly again becoming aware of his surroundings but a few moments was all it took as Asher looked around he saw no sign of Felix. A smile crept along his face as he stood up straight grasping the now half full bucket firmly in his hands. "pretty clever... But you cant hide forever!" Asher spoke slow and methodically doing his best impression of a thriller/horror movie killer as he slowly walked towards the second van.

"using your small size to your advantage and hiding huh... very smart but it wont work forever... I'll find you and when I do I got just the thing to put you out for good." Asher clearly having way to much fun acting like a killer on the hunt for his prey like all of his favorite movies. As he rounded the the corner of the van he was surprised to find that Felix wasn't where he had expected. " You think you can run from me... your just prolonging the inev..." his taunting was cut short as he heard footsteps behind him. He tried to react but Felix was too fast as he felt the cold wet sponge collide with the back of his head sending a shockwave of shivering through his body he stood there frozen for a moment. The shock of the cold water causing him to loose his grip on the bucket sending it crashing to the ground tipping over and spilling its contents across the pavement. Well played little dude well played. Guess he won. He thought as he dramatically fell to his knees. " Well it seems you bested me at my own game." *cough cough* " I must admit you truly are a clever and formidable opponent." *cough cough cough* "If I was to die I am proud it was at your hands." He spoke with fake over dramatic theater pain in his voice clearly hamming the whole thing up as much as he could. As he collapsed to the ground feigning his death. Fighting back the nearly uncontrollable laughter that was fighting it way to the surface.

Honestly Felix was on edge here. Asher was playing the role of a killer in a movie perfectly and the preteen was living every moment of it. It took practically all his willpower to supress wanting to laugh at those cheesy lines. Thrillers and horrors not only being Asher's favourites but also some of Felix's as well even if he wasn't technically old enough to watch them, but his Dad let him anyway.
Having kept his laughter in check Felix did his best to avoid Asher, listening for the older teens cheesy lines and footsteps, the sloshing of water and keeping himself away from his line of sight while trying to move fast and low. Felix eventually making it behind Asher. Felix awaited an opportunity to strike and as soon as the 'killer' entered his monologue Felix began to strike moving slow, then faster, then to a sprint catching Ash off guard as he delivered the cold watery payload. Victory! The monster began to fall, the soapy water from the bucket spilling across the ground like the blood of the fatally wounded killer. Felix standing over the fallen killer as spoke, putting on his best mournful expression only mildly undercut but the massive grin on his face. As Asher laid there dead, Felix spoke as seriously as the preteen could muster. "-And i'm sorry it had to end this way. Hopefully you can get some rest now." before squeezing another sponge out now over Asher's face. "But always gotta aim for the head." Felix kinda mismatching genres here but it worked.

At this point, what willpower remained was gone as Felix just burst out laughing like a pint-sized hyena, clearly having just had a ton of fun. Felix having to grip his side a little clearly having pain from his injury now combined with laughing too hard - though he wasn't complaining. Probably taking the kid a few moments to try and recover even before offering a hand down to Asher. "Let's save the sequel till after we got them both done now?" Felix genuinely wanted a round two, hopefully with his chest less hurting as I imagine Asher also did. "Also like- I think you kinda gave me goosebumps. You're like way too good at sounding like some b-movie killer."

As Asher hurriedly walked away Nathan wasn't sure weather he felt better or worse about his "issue". Sure liking Felix... wanting to maybe be his boyfriend wasn't a problem at least not in Nathans eyes he had no issues with his realization that he liked boys. But Asher had brought up some very valid points. What if Felix is straight? What if he only likes girls? That possibility feeling more and more likely the longer Nathan thought about it. He's sooo scrappy and rough. He likes doing crazy things Like skating and jumping off things... It's so obvious he's straight. He thought to himself his mind trying to apply all of these traits to straight guys as a way to manage his expectations and not get his hopes up. Even though Nathan knew none of that had anything to do with being gay or straight or really anything but still these were the thoughts that flew through his head as he walked back to Felix's room. "you do know what flirting is right?" Asher's question suddenly popping back up in the twelve year old's head. Why did you say yes? You have no clue how to flirt... or what it even is! but nooo to embarrassed to admit it!! Nathan plopped back down on Felix's bed grabbing the small stuffed tiger plushy and making it do a little dance in his lap bringing a small smile to the boy's face. WHY IS THIS SO HARD!! Nathan basically screaming in his head frustrated at the complexities of having his first crush.

Nathan Pulled out his phone doing several searches trying to find out what flirting was and how to do it... Some of the answers the oh so lovely internet gave him grossing him out a bit given that he is still young and well that sort of thin is not even remotely on his radar yet. Other articles making him feel a little embarrassed or slightly self conscious as he read them stirring up all kinds of feelings in him. eventually he tossed his phone aside on the bed sighing heavily. He decided to take advice from one of the articles and "practice" holding the plush tiger at eye level turning a bright red as he thought about what he was going to do or say. He grabbed his Ipad typing nervously. as he looked into the Tiger's eyes. "Hey Felix... I like your hair it uhh looks really nice." uggg no thats stupid face it your hopeless!! He tossed the tiger aside flopping back into Felix's bed. Nathan laid there for a bit just staring at the celling just overwhelmed with the whole situation. After several minutes he finally sat back up. Okay you gotta do something... get your mind off of this.

Nathan sat there contemplating his options for a few moments he knew he wanted to spend time with Felix but he wasn't here and his phone was on his desk so its not like he could text him. As he looked around Nathan saw the skates sitting on the floor. Guess I could try that. I did pretty good last night! and it was fun! Nathan reached down grabbing the helmet full of pads taking each one out and carefully putting them on tugging on each one to ensure it was secure. Then grabbing the skates by their loop like Felix always did he headed down the hall then the steps a large smile on his face and a bit of a hop in his step truly excited to go and try skating on his own. Nathan headed out the front door sitting on the bottom step as he slipped off his shoes to start working on securing the skates to his feet. It being his first time doing it alone Nathan struggled a bit to get them feeling nice and secure on his feet but he had eventually managed the task. Taking a deep breath in Nathan prepared to get to his feet just like he had learned the previous day but as he went to move his body simply refused. Come ON!! Nathan you got this remember you know how to do this and its fun remember? come on don't chicken out now!! The boy scolded himself in his head taking another deep breath he slowly rose to his feet. He felt very wobbly but he did it he was standing. okay now just push off... Just like Felix taught you. The boy was nervous and didn't move for several minutes but eventually he had managed to push off and began skating slowly across the open parking lot. As he reached the far end though things stopped going so well as Nathan began to panic and couldn't remember how to stop himself. Instead hitting the lip of the parking lot and tumbling forward into the grass.

Nathan rolled onto his back breathing heavy as he tried to regain control of himself but Panic began to set in even further as he laid there. NOPE nope this was a terrible Idea you should have never done this without Felix! You are gonna like kill yourself or something why would you do something so stupid and dangerous! Nathans head began to spin with doubt. He quickly sat up and started trying to undo the skates as fast as he could to get them off his feet as soon as possible. But alas it would not be that easy Nathan quickly realized he couldn't undo the latch he panicked even more. Oh no!! did I do something wrong? Did I break them?!? Good going Nathan! Nathans panic quickly took over and instead of making progress on fixing the situation he began to shut down pulling his knees into his chest and burying his head in his lap. Nathan sat there for several minutes before he was able to calm himself down. He looked up from his lap surveying his surroundings when it hit him. He needed to pee. Like right now! ohhh what do I do now! how do i?? Guess you gotta crawl? Nathan couldn't see another option he needed to go and he couldn't get the skate off and was far too nervous to try and skate again. So as quickly as he could Nathan began crawling on his hands and knees across the parking lot. As he got to the steps he turned around so he could sit and just pull himself up each step soon reaching the top. He stretched struggling to reach the handle just barley grabbing hold he swung it open continuing his crawl through the hall becoming embarrassed as other kids saw him and looked at him but he couldn't deal with that right now. Eventually he made his way to the restroom successfully pulling himself up and relieving his bladder. That problem averted Nathan Awkwardly shuffled around a bit trying to get enough leverage to lift his butt and pull his shorts back up managing the task after a few moments of slipping around.

See you handled that just fine! That wasn't so bad was it? Well I suppose there were all those kids staring at you. His inner monologue cut short as an open notebook and pen were slid under the stall. Nathan looked down at the open page and saw some writing. " Nathan? Is everything alright? Do you need help? Oh and this is Hunter by the way." Nathan didn't know Hunter well but he always seemed like he was nice whenever the two boys would interact. Hunter had gotten to the home within a week on Nathan Though he was several years older nearly 18 now if Nathan remembered correctly. He reached down grabbing the notebook scribbling his own note before opening the stall and showing it to the older teen. "UMM yeah im okay but... could you maybe help me get back outside and get these things off of me!!" Hunter simply smiled as he stepped into the stall and helped Nathan to his feet holding on tightly as they rolled out of the bathroom and back outside. As Nathan sat back down on the steps Hunter quickly got to work trying to get the latches free "Man these things are tough... But... I think I... got em" Hunter said as one of the Latches snapped open knowing the trick now the teen made quick work of the second latch. Before looking up at Nathan. " You were skating? Never thought you would do something like that." Nathan reached over grabbing his Ipad.

"Yeah I...umm" He didn't really know what to say to be honest Nathan had no clue why he was skating or why he was so fascinated with it sure Felix liked it but why does that mean he suddenly liked it. Hunter cocked an eyebrow "ooooohhhh Trying to impress someone I see... say no more ill leave you to it. Just maybe don't make them so tight next time... I know love makes us do crazy things but I don't think you want to be trapped in those things again." Hunter said as he smiled giving Nathan a light smack on the thigh before standing and heading on his way. Wait!?! is that why?!? oh of course it is I want to impress him thats why I am trying to force myself to do something I would never do in a thousand years. It all suddenly made sense to Nathan everything just clicked into place. well even if thats why I did it I still had fun so who cares. He thought as he slipped his feet out of the skates putting his shoes back on but I am not doing it again without Felix to help thats for sure. Speaking of where the heck is he? Nathan thought standing up and gathering his things completely forgetting he still had the helmet and pads on. He started wandering around the outside of the home figuring the chances of a boy like Felix being outside on a day like this were very high eventually finding Felix and Asher around the side of the house having a water fight Nathan just standing and watching. Okay what did I miss I thought those two didn't get along now they are doing this?!? Why would Felix want anything to do with Asher after the was he treated him? Nathan was certainly confused but shrugged his shoulders and headed over as the fight appeared to wind down Asher bursting out in laughter no longer pretending to be dead and Felix already in the middle of his own fit of laughter. Nathan giving a simple wave as he approached the boys.

Suddenly he stopped in place as he saw the black eye that marked Felix's face Oh no!! What happened? Is he okay? Ummm Nathan you know who knows the answers to those questions HIM!! Nathan ran over dropping the skates grabbing Felix's face to hold it still as he closely examined the boy's eye not even realizing how awkward this probably was. "what happen? You Okay?" Nathan spoke more sloppily than normal due to the bit of panic taking him over now pulling out his Ipad and looking at Asher "You did It didn't you? I knew you looked guilty!?! and to think I thought i could even trust you for A second!! I can't believe I talked to you about that!!" Normally in situations like this Nathan just seems disappointed in people but does his best to avoid conflict. Which made the normally timid boys reaction all the more surprising for Asher. Of course if met with equal hostility it probably wouldn't take much for the boy to back down. But right now he was livid and his face showed that fact.

The moment Felix started laughing it was all over Asher couldn't hold it back any longer as the laughter overtook him as well. Laughing more than he had in a long time. "Yeah... Yeah probably a good idea." He said as he took Felix's hand getting himself back on his feet. "Heh thanks I have watched enough of them I should be.." Asher was cut short as Nathan suddenly rushed over closely examining Felix and his Injured eye. Asher thought it was honestly kinda cute the way Nathan gently held on to Felix's chin turning the boy's head a look of gentle concern spread across his face.

The cuteness of the moment quickly disappeared tho as suddenly Nathan turned to Asher a look of rage in the boy's eyes. This certainly startled Asher he had never seen Nathan truly angry. Maybe upset or disappointed but never angry and certainly never this deep almost hateful look. Asher would have been lying if he said it didn't scare him a little seeing the nice and timid boy he knew just disappeared behind the rage filled eyes. "Woah woah... Nate... Nate calm down okay... Please just... I'm sorry okay... I.. I just." Asher was freezing up he didn't know what to say or do. He couldn't respond to Nathan the way he would most people he didn't know why but he couldn't. Instead he just froze standing there hands up in surrender. "I just can't believe you!! What you get in a fight with him getting you both in trouble now you have to wash the vans dragging him down with you!! Evelyn tried to tell me that your not all bad and that you can be a good guy... and ya know what I almost believed her I wanted to believe her but no. you are clearly just a horrible, Retched Person! what did Felix ever do to You!" Nathans tirade continued leaving Asher at a complete loss for words unsure what to do he just stood there. His eyes beginning to well with tears as the Guilt and sorrow in him grew more and more threatening to make themselves known. His eyes darting between Nathan and Felix as a couple tears broke through and rolled down the teen's cheek.

Evelyn was still in the middle of her determined trained of thought, yet then suddenly she blinked confused looking at Jack. It was like a record that just scratched. Evelyn looking confused, like something in her train of thought broke or skipped a track. The teen girl's expression varying shades of confused watching Jack's reaction to her words, and to him taking the skates and putting them away. She had hoped Jack would provide an awnser, either they did fit, or maybe they didn't or that he'd say he didn't know and then try them on quickly to see, or atleast something! Instead she felt almost apathy like he didn't care... Completely derailing the plans she was making in her own head. "...Are you okay?" Evelyn merely asking with a soft tone, sounding more than a little concerned.

"...You do still want to keep playing don't you?" She continued. "No offense but it's the only thing you seem to like talking about. Know you don't like talking in general but I'm trying to help you here. I don't know a thing about the sport, but since it's what you're interested in. I'm trying to talk to you about it. Your stuck here like the rest of us, might as well have something to talk about." Evelyn didn't tend to take a strong interest in people often, most kids come here, they do their thing and they go. All good. Yet one thing she always remembered was peoples interests, their passions. To Evelyn they were one of the few things that mattered to her - what did people like doing - what was a persons' 'thing'. Some were easy, Nathan loved his photography, others were more complicated. It didn't really matter what someone's thing was, but she was interested in what it was and people keeping it.
"..." Ev' went a lot more quiet after this, putting her head in her hands for a few seconds, just thinking to herself. Sighing a little exacerbated, her cool commanding presence was gone.

Jack just shrugged. To be honest, hockey was really the only thing he was into and the only thing he really truly enjoyed talking about, the rare time he actually talked with someone that is. But the teen girl was right, he DID want to keep playing, but he knew he couldn't, no not down here in Santa Monica in a foster home. He hated how he was ripped from his life in San Jose and put into a foster home once both of his parents died so suddenly that night. He was ripped away from his hockey team, and most of all, his only best friend: Mitchell. Her words were cause for reflection. Was he really that boring, basic, and uninteresting that he only liked hockey and playing/talking about it? There wasn't much that he liked to do admittedly, and he sure wasn't a talker. Maybe he was just a boring person, but he knew his passion was and would always be hockey.

The young brown haired boy frowned, shrugging his shoulders again, "I mean I guess.... hockey's really the only thing I like.... I've been doing it practically my whole life...." Jack would like to convince himself that he's already over it that he can no longer play on his old team, and that he can no longer play competitive hockey on a team, but deep down inside of him, he knew that he desired so much to play and get back out onto the ice with his old team once again. Of course, the boy would never admit to anyone that he wasn't over it. He had to remain calm cool and collected, talking about feelings and emotions was certainly not Jack's thing. He was one to tend to bottle up all of his thoughts. He was beginning to hate being stuck here at the home, wishing for things in his life to return back to normal- but he knew they never would. There would be no way. Nothing could bring his parents back and nothing could bring him out of foster care.

Felix was about to reply to the now equally-soaked teen when got interrupted by Nathan's arrival from around the front of the house. Yet before Felix had the chance to really react or respond he suddenly saw Nathan start dashing over, alongside the oh-too familiar noise of his skates being dropped to the ground. Felix had a lot of questions but so did Nate it seems. Felix just kinda stood there confused as Nathan came in, holding his face and inspecting it for something not initially registering the black-eye to be the reason. A black eye, really wasn't that big a deal to Felix he'd gotten them before in fights and usually the other injuries were what made him take pause.

Yet as Nathan began to tear into Asher becoming visibly angry, Felix suddenly realised what made him act so weird. Felix was also kinda shocked, wow Nathan was not holding back. He did kinda admire it, he'd do the exact same if the tables were reversed with Nathan or another friend being the one whose hurt - and if it wasn't for the very recent few minutes he'd likely have just watched. But given what just happened, no. Felix just suddenly put his hand over Nathan's iPad stopping him from seeing it properly so he'd stop typing and look up at him.
"Nathan, hey. It's okay now." Felix began giving a gently smile looking his friend right in the eye. "I'm gonna be fine, my eye barely even hurts." Gently laughing as he said that, still having some giggles left in his system. He wasn't going to mention the bruised ribs as of yet. Felix gently putting an (damp) arm around Nathan's shoulder as he continued to speak. "Ash the Jerkface did come into my room and start a fight with me like first thing this morning. Buuuut - like I also got him back good." Felix had a almost toothy smile at that looking to Asher's own black eye, seeming like he kinda enjoyed the fight actually. "He did punch me." Felix reached over and poked Asher playfully in the side with his other hand. "and-like he said some really mean things that I still haven't forgiven him for." Again poking Asher in the side again with the next accusation. "And he was a complete Jerkface." Poke again because.. Felix was already doing it anyway.

Felix's expression then softened. "-And like yeah we both got in trouble 'cus of it even though it's his fault. We gotta do chores together for the next week or we're both in a lot more trouble... ...But Ash also just apologised to me for everything, and-like without the Boss Lady even here to hear it. And-like.." Felix took a pause. "I wouldn't just forgive a bully but I do think he really meant it. We talked a bunch, Ash got really upset, and he's not been mean to me at all since he came outside. Only tried to make me feel better for the stuff he said, helped me get my parts get done, and even gave me a boost so we could wash the top of the van. So-like.. you don't gotta be angry for me." Felix looked to Asher for a moment nodding a bit before continuing. "Kay?" He gently squeezed Nathan a bit in a half-hug hoping to calm him down, before poking him in the side in a ticklish spot hoping to trigger a bit of a for a hard reset.

"..And like-I kinda did throw the first punch after something he said... Kay? Not all his fault."
Felix admitted poking his friend again, before looking up at Asher with a friendly expression clearly trying to reconfirm that Felix wasn't angry at him. Maybe not all was forgiven yet but he was being honest and not just pinning the blame on Asher. "..Right Ash? Like-we're doing better now?" Felix inviting Asher to say something now Nathan was hopefully calmed down. The preteen poking Nathan one last time before taking a slight step back from Nathan realising he might have made him a bit wet with that hug.

Evelyn just kinda sat there for a while, quietly head in her hands. Idly she rubbed the bracelet on her wrist as she spent a few moments in thoughts, still sat on Jack's bed. The teen girl then suddenly standing up and heading without a word over to the door, before leaning her back against it and looking to Jack. "Look if you mean that. That this is the really the only thing that interests you. Then I wouldn't be sitting around hiding. I would be trying to make sure that all my gear was set, or asking the teens older kids who are offering out branches if they could help find a sporting place to get new gear. Or use their privileges to take you to an Ice rink before summer's end... Or I would be out practicing. I would be doing something!" Evelyn sounded exhausted. "The one time I try and help out..."

"Look I have no idea what led you here. But if you're here its got to suck whatever it was. The kind of sucky situation that won't ever get better, that cant just be undone. I get it. I don't know exactly what you're going through but I get it. You probably just lost everything, family, friends, your team... And I get it, you probably think all of that is none of my business. You probably hate us, and this entire place because we're the result of the worst days of your life. I get it. We've all been through that song." She shrugged trying to pass off her feelings as anything but her own, but her voice sounded almost pained in her frustration. Having lived here for pretty much her whole life and having seen dozens of kids come and go non-stop over the years, it'd taken its toll. This is why she didn't want to get involved. Every story is painful, and its gotten exhausting. "...And It's fair, natural. I didn't trust anyone either, I've pushed people away jus trying to help. Trust me, I've seen it before... Locking yourself in your room, and just wishing things to go back to the old way never works... You got to do something, got to find ways to enjoy whatever crappy life you've been given if you want to keep those dreams alive.." Evelyn bit her lip slightly, bad memories and troubling thoughts of her own rising to the surface - a troubled expression visible and readable on her normally cool-demeanour.

It was dumb of her to have come here in the first place - she wasn't a people person anyway she thought to herself. What made you think you could fix this!? "You know what forge it. -Look if you want, I'll get out of your hair right now. I'll go off and just leave you alone for the rest of the time your here, even if that's the like whole like two-three years before they'll let me leave for college. I wont' even bother saying hello." She motion to the door behind her.

Nathans tirade showed no signs of stopping as he continued typing away. More angry at Asher than he can ever remember being with anyone else in his life. But to be fair Nathan also didn't get angry often. "sometimes I wish.." Nathans typing was halted as he saw Felix's hands blocking his ability to see what he was doing causing Nathan to look up at his new friend. His expression instantly softening a bit as he looked into Felix's eyes tho still clearly filled with anger. He watched carefully as Felix spoke the words of somewhat defense for Asher causing a bit of confusion in the young boy's mind but Nathan did his best to take in Felix's words. He seemed to calm down a bit as the speech began to come to a close. His brow still furrowed a bit but he seemed to be calming down at least a little.

Nathan then struggling to stay in his angry mood as a couple of pokes came to his ticklish sides. Nathan fighting back his giggles a smile spreading across his face. He grabbed at Felix's hands trying to get him to stop managing to capture one of them but it seemed the assault was already over. He looked suspiciously between Asher and Felix not quite sure what to do or say. Eventually letting his face return to its normal happy expression. Seeing that the two seemed to be getting along and deciding to take Felix's word for the situation. Asher nodding to confirm they were indeed doing better. "Okay okay if you say so." He said looking to Felix "But you shouldn't have let him get you to throw the first punch knucklehead." Nate then unleashing his own miniature assault of Felix's side hoping as usual to tickle his very ticklish friend. "You can still come to the party though right?" Nate raised an eyebrow looking to Felix for confirmation. " cause it wont be any fun without you... Also thanks for getting me all wet knucklehead!" he said with a large smile across his face nudging Felix with his shoulder before turning to Asher with a very serious but not angry face. "you better not hurt him again... or else."
