Halfway into the river, there was a wooden bridge connecting the two sides of land. "Cross here, then continue on straight forward. The cave will appear in no time," Chandler directs. They were farther away from the town now. Usually at the barn, she could hear the bustling commotion. Now, all she could hear was silence. Besides the horse running, but that's all.

Chandler takes a closer look at the bridge, narrowing her eyes slightly. A torn ribbon, flying in the wind, was strapped to a piece of the bridge. The ribbon belongs to Chandler. She found it in the town one day, and used it for her mark, so she'd always know where the cave is.

To the walls then.

Ellete went her way to the front, but in no hurry. She took her time as she crossed the town, mostly because she saw someone pretty to ogle every few feet, but to the wall she went.

Arriving, she exited through the gates and saw just down the valley, a formation of troops. Stretching far, they looked almost like ants scuttling about the ground en mass.

Perhaps this threat was a might more threatening.

Averel

As everyone else hurries around, preparing for the oncoming battle, Averel continues to sit at her table, slowly, methodically tightening all the leather straps and laces that are holding her armor in place, unsheathing her sword for a moment to apply ice to a shallow grove running down the center of the flat of the blade on either side. Refastening her red cloak, she hands her bag to the owl, who quickly disappears out an open window to stash her belongings somewhere for later retrieval. As she follows several of the other warriors down the streets, she slowly starts applying ice to her armor, which, by the time she makes it out of town, has almost doubled the thickness of her armor, and is spreading a slight chill to those around her. Hair tied back, she was ready to fight, no matter what happened.

Chandler squints, getting a better look of the area in between all the trees. "There!" she calls over the roaring wind and the running horse. She points straight forward. The cave is hidden amongst the side of a hill, surrounded by many trees and moss-covered rocks. It looks the same as always. The horse slows down, which allows Chandler to climb down. "I assume you're off to go help in the battle. Do be careful. I hope to see you and Ambrose in one piece," Chandler says kindly, giving Ava a smile. Suspecting that Ava is in a rush to get back, Chandler turns away, making her way to the cave.

@Katie Jensen

Ava reacts on instinct and jumps off the horse to grab Chandler's hand, she places a small dagger in it and closes Chandler's fingers around the simple hilt "this is just in case they find you, I don't need to tell you which side to poke them with do I?" she laughs and quickly kisses Chandler's cheek, she quickly whispers in her ear "I think Ambrose is falling for you...I won't say anymore since it's not my place but it's obvious he cares for you." she climbs back on the horse and looks down at the girl "make sure you keep your magic card safe. There's no telling what raiders would do with an army of Nephilim."

Heat rose up her neck, creeping onto her cheeks. Chandler doesn't know exactly where to look. Her gaze flickers from Ava, to the dagger, to her tarot card. "It won't get in the wrong hands, I promise. And, I know how to use a dagger," she responds, smiling. She couldn't help but push aside what Ava told her about Ambrose. That was foolish. After a day? And why Chandler? There were so many more women in the kingdom. Women that were far more beautiful than Chandler. Women that didn't have such a bad childhood, or that didn't have hideous scars all over there body. Absolutely foolish.

Settling her gaze on Ava, Chandlers adds in a teasing tone, "Kick some arse out there."

"Pirate..."

Alex was a bit less enthusiastic about getting to the walls, slipping through the back ally’s rather than deal with the rush of people. It wasn’t like it would matter much if the pirate actually showed up at the walls or not. Alex knew what the orders would be, and more importantly, Alex knew what the actual plan of action was.

The sight of the army below the walls did give Alex a moment of pause, the pirate standing with one foot up on the stone barrier. Thousands? A scowl crossed the already less than happy features. Someone had managed to put together an army of thousands and no one had noticed, yet Alex was bound to a king that had no claim on the human? Typical. Still, an army marching in nice pleasant formations was something to behold. One of the pouches slid from Alex’s belt, the pirate tossing it up and down in one hand like it was something completely harmless. Maybe Alex would find one of the items that made the sought after list down there. The pirate held little faith in the idea that the king would actually provide an award worth having, but an army coming to lay waste to a city, that was likely to have one of the more showy items.

Pushing off from the observation point, the slightly more placated pirate worked down the path to the tent crowded with knights and other people who had until recently hunted after the slim form. “Alex Vann, as summoned. I’m guessing front lines?”

Ava sees doubt run across Chandler's face and shakes her head "despite what others may have told you, you are a stunning young woman Chandler. Any man would be lucky to get your attention. I won't lie, I'm kind of sad Ambrose has a thing for you. Look, stop focusing on all of the bad and start focusing on the good. Stay safe" she smiles again before slowly turning the horse around

Sir Ambrose Magus

Once inside the command tent Ambrose was greeted by the last person he expected to see all day, King Alteon. He was to busy to notice his arrival due to him having to give orders to his field commanders. In the center of the tent was a table with a map layout of the whole city and the surrounding land. There were X's indicating the locations of the enemy that the scouts located.

"The situation is not looking so well Ambrose," said Alteon. "They have gathered a force ten thousand with half of them wielding magic weapons."

"Is that really so bad my lord," Ambrose replied. "You sent me to fight many battles where the enemy was at the same amount."

"Yes but we only have about two thousand on our side this time not count any additional help from mercenaries. Even with calling for reinforcements I'm not sure for long we can hold out before we can get aid from the elves."

Ambrose had to admit that his king was right in his assessment. But for Ambrose he knew that no matter the odds he would fight to keep the city, its people, and Chandler alive.

Ava spurs the horse and leaves Chandler behind, she hoped she would be safe until she returned. After half an hour or so of riding Ava is back in town, everything seems more empty. Ava sees soldiers ahead and rides her horse into the camp, tying its reins to a post. It was chaotic to say the least, some solders got their last bit of sword practice in, others were rushing around to find equipment. Ava walks up to the command tent only to be stopped by two guards out front who deny her entry "my name is Ava, I'm here to fight for the King and his people" both guards laugh at Ava and she sighs

Callum didn't have a chance to answer after his brief introduction due to all of the commotion from the hysterical soldier that announced doomsday.  Patrons of the tavern leaped out of their seats and ran either to the walls or to safety somewhere else.  The tavern wench disappeared briefly for a moment and Callum thought maybe they had run, but they came back out dressed in men's clothes and he felt his heart skip a beat.  After changing the eye-patch-wearing man-wench ran off presumably to join the chaos outside.  In a moment of hesitation Callum weighed the pros and cons of joining the fight.  The thought of potentially handsome men fighting and being able to protect them or nurse them back to health got him to his feet.

He gulped down the last of his liquid courage, and took to the streets.  He entered into streets of pure panic.  People were running all over the place, fear replacing common sense.  Callum shook his head, and headed for the wall to see where he could find the most likely candidates for his future harem.  The thought made him smirk and added a bounce to his step.

Chandler watched Ava ride off, her top row of teeth gnawing at her bottom lip in worry. Dead silence, aside from the wind blowing in her eyes. It seems as if the summer sun has dispersed, replaced by the chill, darkening wind. It sets the mood of the current events. The battle that makes it's way. Chandler can't even bring herself to think of the casualties and deaths. Shivering, she turns away, walking to the cave. To ease herself of her nerves, she softly sings, "Just come home, you need some home." It was a song she heard one day, and she always sang it when she was nervous, or at least when she could.

In the midst of her singing, the sound of hooves, hollers, and grunts were silently audible. The raiders. Chandler snaps her mouth closed, covering it with her hand. She crouches down slightly, making her way deeper into the cave. She could hardly see through the dark, but she recognized the route from when she was a little girl. She used her free hand to feel around the cave, make sure she didn't hit any rocks.

"Captain! Check in here!" A gruff voice calls. Chandler stifles a gasp, crouching down even further, onto her knees. She backs up into the cave, until her back hits the wall of rocks.

"Make it quick. We can't delay!" Another gruff voices calls. Footsteps grow louder, as a man makes his way inside. He holds a torch in his hand, which illuminates the cave with an orange glow. He gets closer to Chandler with each passing second. Her hand instinctively flies down to the hilt of the dagger that Ava gave her. Soon, a raider stands in front of her. His blank expression lifts into a smirk as he gazes upon her.

"Would you look a that. A cave woman. You'd be a nice gift for our leader. Or maybe for all the lads," the man says, his smirk widening with arrogance.

Chandler whimpers in fear, shaking slightly. She gulps away the next few whimpers, and sputters out, "Stay away."

"Stay away? And why would I do that? After all, you're a defenseless, little girl."

Chandler pulls out the dagger, pointing the blade at him. The man falters for a second, lowering the torch. His free hand lowers to his belt, most likely to pull out his own weapon. Chandler meets his eyes, and says, "Please. I mean no harm."

"Yes, well. I do," the man throws down the torch, which begins to set the grass on fire. Chandler gasps as a hand wraps around her throat, shortening her air supply. She's lifted into the air, her back slammed into the rock wall. She can feel the blood surfacing on her backside, as the rocks pierce her skin. "A stupid and defenseless brat your are. Only useful for pleasuring a man." He lets go of Chandler, whom drops to the floor, scraping her head on the rocks. The gash spills open, blood dripping down her temple. Tears trickle down her cheeks rapidly, protests spilling past her lips. Gathering as much courage as she can, she whirls around, stabbing the blade into the man's leg. He lets out a pained howl, dropping to the floor. Blood spreads around the cloth on his trousers, and drips onto the ground.

Chandler rises up, running out the cave. It seems as if the raiders left the man behind. Chandler sighs, thanking Avaldir for getting her out of the cave alive. Her hand reaches up, touching the gash on her forehead. The blood is sticky, like honey, and it stains her fingers with a deep red colour. Chandler sniffs, ridding her cheeks of it's tears. Making sure she still has the card and the dagger, Chandler walks away from the cave, in search of a better hiding place. In case Ambrose or Ava come looking for her after the battle, she cuts off small pieces of her clothing with the dagger, tying the pieces around low tree branches.

Sir Ambrose Magus

Ambrose and King Alteon were still trying to come up with a way to hold off the enemy so that their reinforcements would make it in time to back them up. Time was growing short and the distance the enemy had advanced was significant in the time word came of their attack. Deep in thought Ambrose heard some commotion from outside the tent. Opening the curtains he could see the guards were stopping someone from approaching the tent.

"Guards who is it that you are holding up."

"Just an Elfa Sir Ambrose," said one of the guards. "She says she has come to fight for the king and his people."

Ambrose was about to tell them to move out of the way when King Alteon came over to see for him self. The guards tensed up in attention from the sight of his presence.

"Step aside in such a crises as this any who wish to fight with us are more then deserving an audience with myself," said Alteon.

The guards moved out of the way to reveal Ava standing with the face of someone used to being stopped by guards. Alteon waved her in and Ambrose held the curtains open for her.

"Pirate..."

“Does that include filthy pirates?” Alex’s voice drifted from the side, the human in question stepping out from beside the tent. Not having found anyone who seemed to be content with letting the pirate go off and do whatever it was that Alex planned to do, Alex had just been moving up the ranks.

Passing under the tent flap with only a passing glaring match with the guards, Alex stepped into the tent. For a moment, the green eyes just considered the king, passing down over the outfit with the same assessing eye the pirate had given anyone who walked into the tavern. Then, Alex folded into a formal bow worthy of the court the king no doubt normally entertained. “Alex Vann.” Straightened, slender fingers caught in the fabric of the tunic, pulling it slightly to the side to display the upper curve of the seal set over the collarbone, as well as the brand it surrounded. An intricate piece, it almost seemed to move on the skin with a life of its own, runes laid out in a pattern that might have made more sense if Alex allowed anyone to see the full thing. Parts of it though were easy enough, the words stringing together into pieces of the oath of fidelity to the kingdom. “As per the vow I was forced to take, I have come. Now may I go do what I earned my name doing?”

Ava's eyes widen and she bows "thank you your highness" she walks into the tent and looks at the king, he was a regal sight and Ava couldn't help but stare, this was her first time being in front of any kind of royalty and she didn't know if she should act like herself or not. "So how big is their army and what kind of resistance are we expected to meet?" The more Ava knew now the better, it would mean less surprises later. She hated surprises during combat.

Averel

She strode quickly through the camp, the chill surrounding her quickly encouraging everyone else to find somewhere to be other than near her. She was used to it, in all honesty. The ice was a less than subtle trick her grandfather had taught her upon passing the crystal down to her. Even if she didn't have the control that the old man had had, she was far more skilled with her bow, and, she had her owl. Flake landed on her shoulder just as she pushed her way into the tent, tying the straps on his iron claws. They fitted right over his feet, with razor sharp blades covering his own claws.

"Well, looks like I found where the party went." She chuckles. "Where do you want me?"

Of course, she notices the pirate, who looks much more than a smidge more familiar than she can decide how to deal with.

Chandler's skirt was now a few inches shorter, exposing part of her thighs. It was still long enough to conceal her bum, but the shorter length felt odd to her. She must've tied about fifty pieces before she decided to take a break. She was still following the river. She always wondered where it continued on, but she always felt as if the endpoint is a place that one shouldn't venture to.

Staring at the blue river, as it flows rapidly, carrying fish, frogs, leaves, and twigs, Chandler felt tired more than ever. She kneels down beside the lake, sitting on her calves. Bending down slightly, she dips her hands under water, splashing her face. The cold water made her blink a few times, waking herself up. She cups her hands under the water again, using it to clean the blood off her forehead. She winces slightly, as it burns, but she continues to clean.

For some odd reason, Chandler feels tears brimming her eyes. She's not sad... Or is she? She's just painfully worried for Ambrose and Ava, and the fate of the kingdom. If they died, she wouldn't know what to do. She just met them that day, but they took her from a life of pain. With them gone, Chandler would be alone, and she wouldn't know what to do. "Please Avaldir, keep them safe. I can't bear the thought of losing them. Please," Chandler pleads, looking up at the sky, tears slowly falling past her eyes.

Yagami rested his head and his back against an old tree, with his sword by his side. He's been walking for straight three days, and even though he was not physically ill, he felt tired within his soul. For years, many tried to keep up with him, but in the end it was he who left them behind. He looked around, and watched out for any sudden movements. He hadn't slept ever since the last fight he had. That damn assassin was really a pain to deal with...

He moved his hand over his right arm to check the wound, giving out a brief sigh before closing his eyes.

Callum had made it to the wall and was greeted by the hustle and bustle of people making themselves look busy and important.  There was a large tent that looked fairly important, but Callum doubted a random elf would be allowed inside.  He scanned the sea of people trying to pick out the men with the best visuals.  So far he'd only found one or two that really suited him.  He walked the perimeter of the tent, making sure he didn't miss a section of people.  Also, if there were important people inside the tent, he may have better luck finding either someone worthy of his notice or the pirate-wench from before.  Nobles tended to take better care of themselves than the common people and Callum was eager to some handsome and healthy individuals before they died horrible, painful deaths at the hands of the cult army.

King Alteon Silver-blood

Alteon watched as two others come in after the elf to offer their help to the fight. He starred at them all trying to focus on what was most important to know for the time. "Ok you all we have a large force that out numbers us two to one. Our scouts say that only half of them have magic weapons, but they might try to just overwhelm us with their superior numbers. Until our reinforcements can get here to back us up we have to make sure not a single raider can get threw the city gates. We need to split our forces in half to protect the north and south gates," he said pointing to the map on the table.

Ava nods "we need to form choke points too. We can't hope to hold them out in the open if they outnumber us, we need to find a way to even the odds because the magic users are going to cause us trouble Sir"

@Quinlan63

Alex drew in a deep slow breath, counting silently as it was let out. Then he stepped forward. This was the man that had forced Alex to bow? “Do we know what force they are from, or what region? That will give some indication of their fighting style. It would also be useful to know where their officers are located, as well as the command unit since it varies sometimes between front back and middle.” The gloved hand swept over the table, indicating the arrayed pieces. “Given the style of this place, it would be smart to have come prepared for a siege. So, somewhere they will also have to have either a supply chain, or a large amount of food stored. When I laid siege I liked to run both. Given the ridiculous numbers it should be easy to find at least a few of them.” Alex looked up, smirking. “May I suggest sending someone like myself who you wouldn’t mind loosing, to go and ensure that those supplies are not longer able to be used by them?

Ava looks at Alex and nods "wiping out their commanders would put a serious hole in their forces for some time. If this is a siege they'll also have siege weapons too which means destroying those should take priority first and foremost. Perhaps sending three small squads to take out the commanders, destroy their supply chain and siege weapons would be a good idea? Maybe send magic users since our chances for survival are higher than that of the normal soldiers" while she talks Ava looks down at the arranged pieces and examines them, she didn't mind running into the thick of it, the city was in danger and Ava was going to help in any way she could.
