King Robert of Verlais
Robert sat on his throne in the throne room. Out in front of him the court had all gathered for the arrival of the young Queen of Riga, Amelia. This was a great day for Robert, today the contracts would be signed binding their two kingdoms together, once the marriage happened of course but the Queen had already accepted the betrothal so it was a sure thing really. All of the lords of Verlais had come to attend this great wedding and the King and Queen of Origia had also come. After the marriage Robert would essentially be in control of two kingdoms and over one hundred thousand men, the largest army in all the land but first he would have to deal with the barbarian King who had raised an army equally as large, but they were undisciplined and void of any knowledge of battle tactics and had insignificant amounts of cavalry, a huge disadvantage. "You, come here" He suddenly commanded a local guardsmen "Yes, my king" He said approaching the King's throne "Where are my children?" Robert asked him "Princess Vaila is visiting a local Orphanage" This brought a smile to the King's face, his daughter knew how to play the people and make them love her, afterall he was a peasant farmer not to long ago before he became a soldier "I am unsure where Princes Leon and Alaric are your grace" The guardsmen finished. "Find them" Robert commanded, leaning back on his throne and looking out at the court, news was that the Queen of Riga's party had been spotted on the horizon, he had sent a party of knights out to escort her into the castle and up to the decorated throne room. Robert looked out at the crowd once again, trying to spot the King and Queen of Origia, surely royalty did not belong among the courtiers but beside him at his throne. (They may not be in the room yet)
Princess Vaila of Verlais
Vaila stood among the orphans who groped at her feet, they were starving, things had grown worse as of late. "Guards, give these poor children all the food i brought" She snapped her fingers "Yes, my princess" The guards spoke in unity and quickly left the orphanage to grab the castle food she had brought from the carriage. "Thank you so much Princess" the headmistress of the orphanage, a skinny old woman said, falling to her knees in tears and groping at Vaila's long and very expensive blue dress. Vaila turned to Jeanne as the soldiers came back with big baskets of fine bread and salted pork and fish "Please Jeanne, would you help distribute the food?" She asked her, grabbing a piece of bread and handing it to an orphan that was so skinny and starved she could see his rib cage and the flesh hanging off of his bones. How could her father, a former peasant himself let such atrocities happen? This was not the old royal family but the house of Durrandon, a house of the common folk and the helpless, protectors of ALL of Verlais

Vaila knew that the Queen of Riga was arriving this morning but didn't care much for her or her father's ambition to rule the world. "Don't be Jeanne, these children need us more than my father" She said as she smiled at a young girl with ratty hair and ragged clothing as she handed her a piece of bread. Vaila truly loved the peasantry, when her father revolted against the old king, peasants rose up all across Verlais, some even flocked in from other kingdoms to fight. Vaila continued handing out bread. Suddenly a boy came up to her, skinny and clothed in rags like the rest of the orphans, he looked to be about twelve "Hello handsome" She said, giving him a kiss on the cheek. The boy blushed profusely and ran off in shyness. Vaila laughed to herself before continuing to hand out more bread. She knew that her father would be furious that she wasn't in the throne room awaiting the Queen of Riga

Vaila sighed, Jeanne was right and she couldn't let her face the wrath of her father but Vaila wasn't stupid either she knew that Jeanne was trying to play at her emotions. "Goodbye children, i will come visit you soon i promise!" She called out to the fifty or so children gathered there, in a sweet and soft tone. She signalled with her hand to the guardsmen to leave the food there in the middle of the children. Before sweeping her way out of the orphanage and out onto the dingy alleyway where her fancy carriage was waiting, she stepped inside and waited for Jeanne to get in with her. Jeanne was a loyal servant and would die for her so Vaila treated her very well, as if she was her own blood.
