My Interest Check
This is the Out of Character thread, where we discuss plots and sometimes goof around. As I write this, my Theatre History class is about to start, so its kinda nostalgic, making rp threads when I should be working. Its fine cause class hasn't started and the Professor isn't here yet but still.

Yeah!! Can't wait to see everyone's characters

Squad 7 is certainly going to be an interesting team

Like I said,I'll probably be the...third or fourth participant to post my CS,as I submitted two applications and might use either one

A solar powerhouse and an unwitting weapon specialist,my soldier girl could have an interesting dynamic with them, and Ms. Shannon.

Or I could go with my eldritch animal whisperer.

Once everyone's posted their CS I'll put up the starter. Probably. I am unfortunately burdened with adult responsibilities. While we're waiting, how would y'all like to start off? We could start in-media res with a training simulation or a more casual thing with everyone hanging around the dorm.

Also, its time for me to let y'all in on the plot. At least, the jumping off point. There's two separate threads I've come up that'll probably run concurrently:

1. A Magical Girl with the power of precognition has foreseen a horrible. apocalyptic future and has decided the only way to stop it is to kill every Magical Girl ever. Way she sees it, Magical Girls attract monsters and if there's no more Magical Girls no more Monsters.
2. You didn't really think the Government was gonna actually listen when using Magical Girls as living weapons was banned, did you? They just got more sneaky about it. The US Government has essentially put together a Magical Girl Suicide Squad in secret, consisting of Magical Girls who committed crimes. This is a bad idea and will probably backfire on them spectacularly.

Eldritch!! My vote is for the eldritch one. Tentacled beast from the great beyond are always awesome

I say casual leading into some training or fighting thing. For several reasons, but Primarily so we can all do fancy transformation scenes before proceeding to glance over it every other time

So I'm gonna confess that while I like the concept of Magical Girl stuff, I haven't actually seen any shows or anime in that genre. I'm in need of a new show to start watching anyway, any suggestions on Magical Girl anime?

Ooo this is fun

My suggestion for getting a good like, magical girl vibe, would be any of the Precure seasons. They're pretty lowkey and not super dramatic (cause they're for small children) but they're pretty fun to watch. Just chill and marvel as the special moves and transformations

My childhood faves are probably Magical Doremi and Winx Club (which isn't technically an anime), but I haven't watched either in years so I can't say how fun they are to watch as an adult.

And ofc Madoka Magica is a great like, deconstruction of classic magical girl tropes. It is very good, but I don't think it's nearly as great without having seen more normal magical girl shows. You gotta know what they're building off of after all

Wow, Winx club? Really? I remember my sisters used to watch that, lol. Thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah! It's got the cute transformation and fighting of other magical girl anime and a pretty interesting setting. Not cohesive really, but the magical world they made in Winx is a cool high tech kinda fantasy.

I watched it a bunch when I was so so small. Woke up early just to catch it on TV

Coincidentally, I also have little experience with the genre outside of what little I've caught of Sailor Moon when my sister watched it and also My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (which I never finished, come to think about it).

I also own the complete set of the og Cardcaptor Sakura manga but that's it.

Kind of embarrassing considering I'm the GM so you'd think I'd have a bit more experience with the genre I'm working in but, hey, I've been rebooting this rp since I was... 13, good lord its been 7 years, hasn't it. Technically 6 since I kinda disappeared for a bit but that's besides the point. Point is, I've been making Magical Girl rps since I was 13 so somehow I've been making it work.

Yeah! This really is a colorful bunch! lmao

I think it's especially interesting that everyone (so far) is less than excited to be a magical girl. If not the job, then the nature of their powers and transformation. It's gonna be fun watching them butt heads with some of the worse consequences of thaumaturgical powers and the program itself

I'd argue its more along the lines of Sentai or Voltron. Five characters with powers fight something and when they can't deal with it individually they combine into a bigger thing.

Looks like if this class gets any kind of field deployment during their studies, they'll be the type to go all out against whatever they're up against,to get it over with faster. Those magical villains better watch out.

Anyway, speaking of someone who might actually like their powers, I'm just gonna post the other CS I considered using here:

-BASIC INFO-

Name: Dasha Illyanova
Codename: Kometa
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Pronouns: She/her

-PERSONAL-

High Concept: Young Veteran

Personality:
Dasha is ultimately a kind and polite young woman, not overly gentle but considerate and perhaps a little too permissive to those she views as her charges.

She still has the habit of not speaking until first spoken to, and tends to address urgent situations by relying on her own abilities before considering the help of others.

Ultimately, she tends to see her skills and obligations as a bit above that of any of her peers, and divides people into superiors and responsibilities.

Background:
Born in the settlement of Privodino in Arkhangelsk, Russia, life was never easy for Dasha Illyanova. She never knew her father, and her mother was stern but never fierce (in Dasha's estimation).

Her mother spent most of her time working on the oil pipeline operating in the region, and Dasha spent her time outside school working odd jobs to give them the little more they needed to scrape by.

When she turned 16, she signed up for a government program that intended to test young citizens for magical potential and enlist them in service, though some whispered that they had means to induce such powers in the subjects instead.

Whatever the truth was, Dasha tested positive, and was assigned to the Russian Airborne Forces for further training and deployment. Performing with distinction, Dasha was distinguished for her operatoons against magical villains and other threats.

Around a year ago, US assets in Eastern Europe warned of an emerging threat that turned out to be a mass of magical particles growing in the wilderness that eventually formed into a hulking monstrosity that threatened to destroy settlements along Russia's west border, and sweep east. This led to a large-scale joint operation to defeat the creature, which eventually succeeded.

Recognising the need for improved ties between the two powers, the US and Russia agreed on an exchange program of magical personnel, leading to Dasha now spending a year at Rosemary Academy.

-PHYSICAL-

Personal Items: A patch from her unit in
the Airborne Forces. She does not wear it in any way, but keeps it in an envelope.

Skills and Abilities:
Notable skills Dasha possesses include improved physical fitness, fieldcraft including orienteering and wilderness survival and stealth, operation of infantry firearms, training in military combatives, and piloting of combat aircraft.

Civilian Appearance:
Standing at roughly 175cm, Dasha has the firmly-muscled build one would expect from a soldier, with fair skin and straight, closely cropped blonde hair that currently reaches halfway down her ears. She generally favors wearing loose, airy clothing like track wear or sweats when not obligated to be in uniform, though she appreciates the departure from military discipline.

-Thaumetic Warrior-

Thaumetic Warrior Appearance: When transformed, Dasha's hair lengthens to her shoulders, and she gains a flight suit that is perhaps a bit more form-fitting than one might expect it to be. Attached to the suit is an exoframe that carries her weapons as well as attaching her jets and wings to her back and fins to her forelimbs.

Transformation Trinket: Dasha's trinket takes the form of a pilot's headset that can network with devices on any frequency she knows of. When activated, it summons her suit and exoframe around her.

Category: Powerhouse

Powers:
Transformation gives Dasha two primary powers. The first is flight, powered by the jets on her back. She can hover in place and move in short bursts, or lock her exoframe into flight mode, where she can fly at speeds of up to 1300 kmh but cannot stop until she transforms back to hover mode, a process that takes a few seconds. Indirectly, she also gains resistance to air pressure and abrasion that would otherwise shatter her body under the conditions.

Her second power is that of vision. While transformed, Dasha gains incredibly precise vision, and any being she has clear sight of for a few seconds is added to her IFF system for the duration of her transformation, allowing for more precise targeting of her weapons.

Weapons (what weapons do you get as a Thaumetic Warrior):
Weapons Dasha gains while transformed include a rotary cannon for general use, seeking rockets for single hard targets, and dumbfire micromissiles for wide coverage. Her explosive weapons replenish over the course of a few minutes from a magical reserve.
