  Life before The turn :
  
  Carmella grew up as an orphan in the city of Verona, Italy, in the early 1800s. She never knew her parents and most of her early childhood was spent in the small run-down orphanage of the town. The mistress was a nasty and vile woman who barely even fed them and made sure all the children were obedient and whipped into shape. But Carmella wasn’t one to be controlled.
  
  Carmella would find any way she could to run and hide from the mistress, almost making a game out of it. She became quite good and could usually talk her way out of any trouble or sticky situation. But eventually, she grew tired of being trapped and pushed around always forced to hide in the shadows and never really seeing the sun or getting to experience life. As soon as Carmella turned 13 she escaped, under the cover of the night she took all her belongings and quietly snuck out of the upper floor window. As soon as her feet hit the stone streets she was off never to look back.
  
  Her life as a homeless runaway was some of the most exciting times for her, honestly, you’d think it would be sad but she loved stealing and conning people into giving her what she wanted. She used her looks as sympathy and who wouldn’t help this poor defenseless girl out? As she got older tho let’s just say she did more .. undesirable things for money and her looks definitely became quite the commodity for her.
  
  There was one man tho that would always just watch Carmella as she worked, seeing all the men she could dazzle and seduce. Seeing the effortless Beauty and charm within her. He saw something special In Carmella and knew she deserved a life beyond this.
  
  After a year or two of just watching her the man finally approached her and offered her a huge bag of lira (gold/Italian currency) just for a simple stroll. Carmella would not pass this up and she was grateful she hadn’t. The man offered her power, freedom, and to be something even more enchanting than she was now. She jumped at the offer without even really knowing what she was getting herself into. That would be the last night of Carmella’s exuberant mortal life.
  
  How they were turned / Life as a Vampire up to this point:
  
  If anyone was meant to be a Vampire it was Carmella, it was almost as if this was her purpose, her calling. She was beautiful, dazzling, and intoxicating as a human but as an immortal, she was a Goddess. Haunting, seductive, Wrathful, the most power she had ever felt before and she knew how to use it.
  
  Her sire took the best care of her, teaching her all the tricks and the ways of the undead, he viewed her as a daughter in every way but biological and he spoiled her rotten, something Carmella had never experienced before.
  
  Even with all this power and this beautiful life, even if it was undead, that had been given to her Carmella didn’t feel whole there was still something missing .. Love
  
  As a human Carmella had a soulmate in a man with the most brooding deep eyes and devilish smirk. He started off as just one of her clients but eventually, it became so much more. They both grow an intense infatuation with one another and he promised to take her away from this life and give her everything in the world she had dreamed of. Her metaphorical Knight in shining armor. Until the day of his untimely death, murdered by a jealous vengeful man that Carmella had also had a short affair with before even meeting her knight. One of the first things she did as a vampire was made sure that one was no longer breathing.
  
  Years went by in her immortal life alone, that was until the Sire, and herself traveled to a village in which he had a long-standing friendship with one of the Noble families. It was a small get-together where they would view some high-class art and drink ridiculously expensive wine and completely just let themselves go. As Carmella placed her glass against her lips about to take another sip her eyes met with the same brooding stare she had been missing and longing for. Completely stunned and almost Paralyzed the glass that she held slowly came crashing out of her hands and onto the floor shattering to what seemed like a million little shards. It was almost as if time stood still as he approached her leaning down and offering to help clean the mess.
  
  As he came back up with the broken glass in a now wine-stained handkerchief “ Sebastian?” She called out almost stunned. it couldn’t be? He died more than 50 years ago... how? “ Sorry, No..” He interrupted. Even his voice had the same seductive tone that she loved so much.   A very long time ago, someone fucked up and was blessed and cursed with vampirism. That poor fucker began turning others, trying to create a little band of people that could maybe give them some company in their new immortal life. One of those people was River - though River was not called this back then. River was an entertainer (wink wonk). And a popular one at that. And one of their best customers was the newly christened vampire. As they grew closer, River saw a future with money and power - a marriage or companionship, what have you. But a ladder to higher society. So he allowed the vampire to get closer and closer, anticipating the invitation.
  
  When the invitation came, he went to a massive feast - debauchery and gluttony abound, but River took it in stride, floating here and there to the very top. And that night, River was indeed given the offer they craved - though, not exactly what they wanted. Instead, he got a new immortal life.   River is an ancient fellow. He could be found almost everywhere - the figure of worship in a cult, an oracle to an ancient society, the court jester to a high and mighty king. The advisor to a mighty chieftain. Wherever River goes, he's always fairly high profile. It's because of the way he talks and acts - different and odd in any kind of society. He constantly can hear the whispers of the future. People who recognize this gravitate to the young prophet in flocks, until he's "killed" for being a witch or a heretic or whatever. Most of his oldest friends have gone off into hibernation or been killed, but he's watched most of the eldest vampires grow since they were doddering toddlers. Truly, a powerful force to be reckoned with despite his quirks.
  
  In high vampire society, they often look down upon the tottering oracle. Powerful and ancient, he would normally be considered with high regard. Except he's also batshit insane. River speaks in complete nonsense, and his fellow vampires only keep him around if they feel like dealing with the headaches that come from his bullshit. Even then, the people that try to utilize his gifts often come to an... unfortunate end. But none the matter, he's still often found in groups of vampires for whatever reason.   Matt's a pretty straightforward guy when you really get to know him. Outwardly, he's got this cool, apathetic devil-may-care attitude with enough of a scholarly, academic flair to him that is surprisingly alluring. Sharp grins and an equally sharp tongue, Matt is pretty critical of most things around him. But that isn't to say he is just bitter, because that would be too easy for someone like him. Instead, he trades this critical sharp eye and dry wit with a spontaneity and a surprisingly light-hearted goofiness that balances into a full picture: he is just someone who doesn't give a shit about societal standards and norms.
  
  A bit of a dick, a bit of an intellectual, and a bit of a goofball, it's difficult to exactly predict what Matt might do next. Maybe he'll start an argument about why murder is okay, maybe he'll flirt with exaggerated innuendo and a swagger found only in parody, maybe he'll learn another language for the shits and giggles. It really just depends on what Matt thinks will alleviate his boredom.
  
  That is to say, Matt is simply apathetic to the world around him. He truly doesn't care what anybody thinks of him, or what happens around him.   Matt was born the son of a poet. That is to say, a poet who died in obscurity only to have a cult following that died out in the early 1800s. They barely had enough time to take care of themselves, much less an unwanted, unneeded child. His father, in desperation, stole some food one harsh winter. His parents had to go on the run, and in their haste, left behind an infant Matteo Wright that they'd never really cared about to freeze to death.
  
  As luck would have it, though, the servant of a noble family was passing by, and saw the crying Matt and took him to her boss. See, the family had just had tragedy struck - their only son had been born stillborn but a couple hours earlier. And they were desperate to have an heir. So they adopted Matt. Eventually Matt graduated and became an English tutor for nobility and upper class people. That's when he had the displeasure of running into a stalker.
  
  See, Matt gained some notoriety amongst the 1800s nobility for being something of a rogue. A bit of a flirt, a bit - dare I even say it - promiscuous and queer. Despite his higher standing, he was always found more amongst the arts scenes and the painters and the actors. And there were rumors of him not being particularly picky with those that fell into his bed. Of course, it was all kept behind his parents' back. No proof was ever laid out. But he did gain a stalker.
  
  Soon, he found himself deeply and romantically intertwined with one woman, and all rumors of promiscuity and sodomy fell away as he chased his white whale. And eventually, she gave him a smile.
  
  "You love me?"
  "Of course."

  Matt immediately woke up from being enthralled for two years. Stared with shock and horror at what he'd become - what had been done to him. And immediately fled the country.
  
  Of course, he was eventually tracked down. But he'd been tracked down in a very unfortunate and precarious position - in bed with another man. And say what you will about vampires, but to a woman who had been trying to find him to mend their relationships for years only to find him cheating on her with another man... well. It may have pissed her off beyond belief.
  
  Dragged back with barely enough time to get his pants on, he was thrown to the leaders of the council who declared that he'd been a rather awful thrall - and a rather awful vampirling. Punishment? He was going to be servant to them and her for at least 100 years.
