Other Roleplay Pet peeves

I guess this is more just a general thing rather than strictly confined to RP, but not being able to properly use your/you're and they're/their, etc. Seeing these obvious grammatical mistakes in an interest check alone is enough to make me click away. It makes me think you're not going to be able to tell the difference in an actual RP either.

Yep. At the very least I do expect partners to be able to distinguish between these words. I acknowledge that typos happen, but repeated avoidable mistakes is a pet peeve of mine.

• Whenever someone kills off a character (even more so when it’s an entire frickin army) with a simple sentence like “I kill Bob”, it’s extremely frustrating.
  • Heck, anytime a character does something that should be a prolonged process (combat, building a home, writing a letter, etc.) in a single sentence.
• Of course, Mary Sues, Gary Stus, etc. who don’t fail at anything.
• Generic zombie apocalypse RPs.
  • I’ll be honest, I used to host an RP which was literally just Pibby but from Temu.
• Townsfolk, people, libraries; these are my main methods of providing lore to players. When they are ignored, I lose a couple of brain cells.
  • Unless of course, they were sacrificed to the plot.
• Anytime I spend weeks nurturing an RP idea on my head and when it’s finally out it dies within a week. God.
• Less of a pet peeve, more of a struggle: filling out the “Physical Description“ section of a character sheet is a pain to me because I just have no idea what is relevant and what is not about my character.

I hate it when people post placeholders and never finish their CS/delete them. If you've lost interest or the acceptance period has passed then keep the thread clean and delete it!

I can relate to having characters being ignored certainly feels hurtful to be excluded why are their even bothering with setting groups if they’re just RPing among themselves

i relate so hard to this. had a few "friends" who would rapid fire back and forth, just the two of them, for HOURS if not DAYS. like theres at least 4 other people in the group, give us a chance, otherwise just go 1x1 somewhere else

Yeah. That sort of stuff really hurts and is never fun. I try not to do that to others, at least not intentionally.

The absolute hatred of doing an opener and pushing me to do it without even entertaining the thought of doing it. While I have no issue writing one, especially if the idea is mine or makes sense for my character to come in to start but I just can't stand not even trying to do one.

Asking for honest feedback on a character, ways to improve writing, etc then completely flipping out. Why even ask anything in the first place?

i have no idea if this is gonna make any sense but i need to rant a little.

being in a group rp (based on a series using canon characters) where every rper is allowed two characters each. but one of the rpers has two characters in the same faction, who are both important/plot relevant characters. so it kind of feels like they have a LOT of control over the plot/things in general and almost holds TOO MUCH importance in the group? if that makes sense??

it makes it harder to have any real relevance/importance in the rp bc you end up feeling like a side character since everything feels like it revolves around them?? idk. power imbalance in group dynamics ig? it just rubs me the wrong way

I’ve come back to share another pet peeve.

So I’m in this fandom, it’s a very small and unknown fandom where the majority of people turn roller coasters into characters. I tend to idolize a lot of artists from this fandom because I like their art and designs and stories.

Anyway, back in 2022 I joined a server and a role play server run by the same people. I got to chat with artists I admire, and got free fan art from them. But the main 3 people who owned the server were just best friends with each other, and didn’t like people interrupting their role plays.

The first role play I ever joined with the main people, my character got made fun of in and out of role play. One of them also hated my fan art of their character.

But the worst thing that happened that made me leave (I think) was when the three were doing a wedding role play between ocs. I got excited and I wanted to join, but then I was told by the One that hated my fan art: “Sorry, your characters don’t fit in our role play. You’re more than welcome to spectate!”

I left the server and never responded to their DM, this situation, even though it was 2 years ago, has made me very nervous when interacting with the community now, as well as servers, because I feel like these new people will find me and my characters, annoying.

My last attempt to create a roleplay I was trolled. Im pretty easy going and very open when communicating. I am so no where near perfect but I tried very hard to work with this person pushing each and every one of my boundaries. To the point, eventually I left and have not been very creative since.... It still makes me nervouse trusting people. I also have a real intense anxiety about preforming right to make others feel good in role play situations. To see my players happy is such fuel. Sometimes I would rather see other characters succeed in plots other than mine.

Although, I have certainly adopted a more stoic approach lately when gming. Even though its done a toll on me mentally , I still crave the feeling of being creative.

Im trying to combat anxiety through moving slow and being self forgiving. Though, that really messed with me. My boundaries were really pushed and thats saying something if you make me uncomfortable...

I too had really looked forward to roleplaying that idea.

I’m really sorry that happened to you. People who push buttons, and push you to the point of being uncomfortable are just plain wrong, and weird.

I am really sorry you went through that, and I hope you can find better and people who are much more kind to role play with.

If you have boundaries, you should not have to push them in order to please anyone for that matter. Sounds like whoever you were working with is just a nuisance. While I understand wanting to make the roleplay experience pleasant for others, it should be that way for you too because at the end of the day how you feel matters and it should not be pushed aside in favor of others. The right partners will make sure that you don't sacrifice your comfort and will be open to communicate not to mention understanding. Never do something that's going to make you uncomfortable. I am sorry you experienced that.

1. When players &/or GMs don't pay attention to simple details in the Lore or people's posts and it creates these stupid inconsistencies you then have to edit or retcon after the fact, when they could've been avoided if everyone had simply bothered to read through things properly.

2. In group RPs, players who refuse to plot anything with anyone and who, when the RP is started and set up specifically so that the opening scene gives all characters a chance at interaction and involvement, deliberately choose to write their characters away from the scene and everyone else.

3. GMs who, if there is a dispute between players in their RP that starts to make things unpleasant and kill the vibe, sit back and watch it kill the RP instead of doing their job, stepping in, and intervening.

• Me: “Ok, the lore for the elf species is fully fleshed out. It was hard, but it’s done. *ahem* Elves are the descendants of the ancient goddess Gaia, who bore the first elves upon marrying the god Enthro. The players are gonna love this!”
• Player: “Here’s this little bunny.”
• Me: “Backstory?”
• Player: “She created the elves.”

I get it. Considering it’s a freeform RP, I’m at fault. But God, it‘s so frustrating when they take your artistic freedom like that.
