you bet your tuchas Ellis would know about john brown, and that the dude would be in their top three of historical figures, and probably their favorite of all the ones from the old country that used to live on this continent. John Brown's body lies a'moldrin in the grave, but HIS SOUL GOES MARCHIN ON!!!!

this aughtta be us guys. it dosent need to be historical, but rifts is built off of the history of ours. and not all of it will survive, but john brown wont be forgotten that easily.
Ha ha ha! EmperorNorton1 EmperorNorton1 Alex, you are too bad for words!! Ha ha ha! 8D

:D History tends to work (at least looking back) that the details, when recorded, are often only known by researchers. however, oral histories of big figures get passed down. I suspect that just like Brutus, Ceaser, and the Roman Empire still linger in common memory today, even though most know next to nothing about Rome, that Lincoln, John Brown, and John Wilkes Booth would be semi-deified, canonized as heroes or villains forever into the mind of the American people. after the rifts open, their memories will still linger, but I have a feeling that the CS would attempt to repaint the story in a "John Brown Evil Crazy Terrorist Slaves=DBees and subhuman!" (Which may lead to many cs citizens who actually think the slaves of the past weren't human, but also who are unaware or racism, as the rifts have forced a post-racial society) Lincoln as a weak leader who caused his country to break apart, and John Wilkes Booth was the defender of humanity against subhumans.

I don't know, I'm just rambling. historiography is neat. and yes, i really am quite evil Purr Purr (:< it just depends on wether history shall remember me as such.

How far north do the vampire hordes roam? I'm fleshing out my character's military background, and I figured a tour of duty in Lone Star might mean contact with the Undead, and perhaps a certain hunter of said Undead?

Also, I've updated my character sheet quite a bit since last time and am swiftly approaching a playable character. She now even has a gender (as may be evident from the pronoun!) and a name, Jeanne-Marie Dumas. Named for the patron saint of France, the first and last women to be burned at the stake for witchcraft in France, and the most famous French person whom most people don't realise was black.

I love her! hurrah for Jeanne, may the voices of her freinds (rather than the ones in her head) Rally her to drive the Coalition out of Tolkien!!

for the "Skills gained from experience" part, does that just mean i get to take a skill i already have and then add the plus however many percent? sorry, i worded that poorly.

Away from my books at the moment but I'll try to look it up later.

Psychie Psychie EDIT: (Hah! I'm so used to you being GM sometimes that I tagged you instead of Epiphany Epiphany )! Oops to the both of you!
Of course! Always. :)
Thanks! =)

Skills gained by experience are always above 1st level. As such, if they rely on percentages to determine success, these percentages are calculated at the level your character was when they received this experience reward. Not at 1st level.

Using my 5th level Chan-Chan as an example, her list looks like this:

Skills from Level Advancement
2nd level - Mythology: 76% (+5%) (Adds +5% to Lore: Demons & Monsters and Lore: Magic)
3rd level - Art (to upgrade her Art Skill in O.C.C. Related to professional level)
4th level - Computer Operation: 76% (+5%) ("Now I can create digital art! Oooh! Pick a tattoo and I'll ink you!")
5th level - Fencing (adds +1 to Strike, Parry, and 1d6 damage with any sword or dagger).

Note her Mythology and Computer Operation skills. Were they chosen at 1st level, they would enjoy slightly higher percentages (+5% and 15%, respectively) but because they were selected at 2nd and 4th level, they are a little lower than her 1st level Skills.

Take a look at her 3rd and 5th level Skills, Art and Fencing? Art runs on a percentage, but, seeking to be a professional-level tattoo artist, Chan-Chan decides to choose this Skill twice (see description of the Art Skill under Technical Skills in Rifts Ultimate Edition, p. 323). The first time she chose it was at 1st level under her O.C.C. Related skills and that's where to find her percentage. Here, this Skill selection serves only to upgrade her quality to professional level.

As for Fencing, selected at 5th level, notice it has no percentages of any kind; it adds only "flat" (unchanging) bonuses. Therefore, if creating a 5th level character, it is mathematically more beneficial to select Fencing as their 5th level Skill instead of one of their 1st level percentage-based Skills (like Art).

Questions?

Thank you so so much dann!

I think I got it, this makes decent sense! so if I want to improve the scores of things, I'll have to take them again as second/third/fourth, etc skills. or, I can take new skills, but with lesser bonuses! I'll put in what I want to add, but would you be willing to check them out once I'm done to make sure I I haven't done something terribly wrong?

also... so, would tattoos work if your skin cant be pierced? or will Ellis just have to use those kiddie tattoos that you apply with water.

The tattoos are magical in nature, so they can be applied to a MDC being. Atlanteans turn into one after they receive their sixth tattoo, so it has to be that there is a way to apply them to a MDC person.

Good to know. I meant aesthetic tattoos only, I probably ought to have specified that ha ha

EmperorNorton1 EmperorNorton1 My pleasure, Alex! Just "ping" me with an Alert when you're ready. =)

I think you've almost got it? Skills go up automatically with every level of experience - there is no reason to have to purchase a Skill a second time. The only exceptions are the cases like Art or many Domestic Skills that, in their description, state they can be bought twice for additional benefit.

Okay, I definitely like the "a good night's sleep recharges all spent ISP/PPE" so we're gonna do that.
YES! Thank you, Pips!

Psychie Psychie Hey, Nausicaa-lovin' chick! Where did you find Reyna's psychic power, Resist Damage, please? I can't find that family of psionics in any of my books (and I might not own the source).

EmperorNorton1 EmperorNorton1 You'll be fine. Remember to add your Character's I.Q. and any O.C.C.-Related bonuses to each Skill (I.e. "Science: Any (+10%)"). =)
oh god there are more steps Thanks for letting me know! I'm uhhh... not going to do that right now, my brain is hurting a bit, so i'm gonna close the computer and do some IRL stuff. your knowledge of this system fills me with aww. :)
