"Ooh," I think, "I could take 6 Melee charms up to Maiden-on-the-Shelf Enlightenment instead of a Martial Art, thereby opening a Sidereal M-A. Maybe Charcoal Spiders - the rest kinda want Lore, Occult or Stealth; but Athletics I could see me taking some of."

Then I look at my in-progress character, and say: "...how many charms is that now??"

I was thinking technically Bronze Faction; but really, having spent years wandering Creation she mostly of the opinion that it really doesn't matter, and that it's mortals in all their rich variety who are the key to it all.

Sayeth the Sidereals manuscript: "Before a character can begin learning Sidereal Martial Arts, she must learn either all Charms of a single Martial Arts style or a total of ten Charms among any number of styles... Sidereals always gain the benefits of a Sidereal Martial Arts’ Enlightenment effects."
 
Progress update! I have assigned 9-7-5 Attributes, 35 (3-dot or less) Abilities (and another 5 over 3-dots, to meet charm prereqs). 15 bonus points, and the 200+50 XP remain to spend. Possibly want to buy some tertiary Attribute dots - annoyingly many charms want Mental stats to roll.

I also have, uh, up to about 60 charms I'm interested in. And that's not counting Martial-Arts charms (which I should take at "creation", as far as possible, because the XP cost is steeper. But only up to Ess 1, otherwise it'd be cheating which I can't take at Creation because of prerqs, so will cost more in XP)! I do have them in a rough order of preference, though.

I haven't considered Merits yet, but I tend to find those reasonably straightforward; especially as (per Auspicious Implement for Strife) I shouldn't need Artifact weaponry.

No worries. I'm getting over a nasty migraine that had me out of it for the past few days, but I should be back on my feet soon.
 
Did you guys build your character by spending 50 XP only on Essence 1 things, then another 50 XP at Essence 2 etc; or just by tallying up everything bought against the full 200?

Nah, just materialized the character full 200xp + 50sxp. Unless you're a masochist.
 
I can't claim any great speed, but I think I have a fresh-out-of-Essence-1 legal Sidereal in the characters thread (excepting Intimacies, and mundane equipment). Some things aren't quite tied down - not 100% settled on merits yet, and I might swap out a few dots for Socialise and Integrity, since I have Social as secondary. Maybe Dodge, if I end up taking no charms there. Now to spend the XP - which will mostly be charms, I think; although I could use a mite more WP, if I have spare.
 
Nearly there! I've spent the 50 Sidereal, and 147 normal XP (although I haven't updated the sheet yet). I may leave some unspent; I may pick up a few more Merits or an extra-extra dot of WP.
 
Siddreal charms seem super willpower heavy, that must be how they nerfed them relative to solars since Essence grows on trees in 3rd edition.

Meant to say - I've listed my full expenditure on the end of my character post, while I work through making the changes (charm text is loooong). My Attribs, Abilities and Merits are up-to-date. I've currently taken Charcoal March charms up to the form - I'm rather loving the idea that I'm just this very warm, likeable wanderer; and then I go full creepy-ass spider-queen in battle!

I do still need Intimacies, but I have a few ideas in mind. I also need to pick my one allowed Familiar from Ordained Bridle. I'm thinking a horse or simhata to ride might make sense; but I do also have Field-Mouse Rider. If I have a horse, I'll likely recruit a cat or similar when I'm in a town (and that'll be it for a good long while).

One thing I could help with, Sherwood Sherwood , is - I've taken three copies of Auspicious Implement for Strife, which means my implemented weapons are not only Artifacts, but also get one Evocation. I don't have a great feel for Exalted 3 Evocations, so some brainstorming would be great.

Those are largely inconsequential final polishes, though, so I'm ok to be dropped in to the story whenever makes sense - and I'm happy to wait for it to make sense.

I just looked for evocations on other items and did then used them
 
Probably. You are all at least aware of who your fellow Sidereals are.
