Is it okay to refer to made up events  in the backstory and also do we need backstories for how and why our pokemon decided to be with their trainer

It's been at least 56 seconds!

New Question

Is there a minimum age limit on registering to be a trainer. Can anyone register and become a trainer even if they are 5 or 6 as long as they get above 80%?

Yes.

In this universe, there was sort of a Youngster Act that was voted 10 to 8 on the Indigo Parliament that reduced the Trainer Recruitement Age from 16 to 10 in order to reduce ranger fatalities and make sure that the wild mon population was kept in check by trainers.

It was a total obvious failure due to the increase in trainer-related crimes and trainer deaths. Now, the age limit of 10 is still present but as long as you get 80 %, yes, you can get a Trainer's license. It's why the Pokemon League is under heavy scrutiny.

Is it possible to have had pokemon before becoming an official pokemon trainer.

Specifically for the following situations

  • A person and a pokemon grow a bond together because the person saved the pokemon from dying
  • A person gains a guardian ghost type pokemon (Channeling)
  • The person and the pokemon had been together since BEFORE the pokemon was even born (Egg)

Also, Just wondering, but can people technically survive in the Dark Continental Areas or is it basically a if you go out there you're dead. And how strict is security. Is it possible to sneak out into the Dark Continental area?

Sorry. My thoughts are all over the place again

My grammars even worse unfortunately. Don't worry though, it's just because I'm brainstorming

Also did you answer Yes to both questions or just the first/second

Yes. It is possible, although, you don't see many novice trainers with F5 mon or forbidden mon such as ghosts since they're especially hard to train. You'll have to get that mon registered in the League database before it can be approved for official competition use.

You know Attack On Titan and the walls? Imagine the walls are a lot more smaller and yeah, you'll get the security details.

If you go out into the Dark Continents without a license, you're dead as a dodo.

Also did you answer Yes to both questions or just the first/second

To both.

So if he has a ghost pokemon, do I need to note that somewhere in the backstory that he got it registered

Yes.

If you don't bring a League sanctioned or registered pokemon to battle, your Trainer License can be potentially revoked for the season so you can't battle the Elite Four or go to the Indigo Regional Finals. However, if you get good standing with a Gym Leader, they can break some of the rules for you.

Is there a dark type gym in this universe. If so can I use the leader as sort of a teacher to my character

I keep forgetting to ask, but what are the details surrounding certain... Peculiar Pokémon. Namely:

  1. Unknown (all types). In the movies they always gathered around legendaries and/or ancient ruins, while in the games their presence was seen as somewhat enigmatic. So, how do the people of the world see Unknown?
  2. The 'kind' Pokémon -- namely Happiny, Chansey, and Blissey. Even their Pokédex entries label them as genuinely kind-hearted and compassionate, so are they something like a rare exception of the usually-dangerous mons?
  3. Pokémon that aren't exactly 'legendary' tier nor Psychic, but can still communicate with others. Lucario, for example.
  4. The Ultra Beasts from the most recent games.

First of all, it's Unown. Second of all, they're not really.....common knowledge for most people in this universe. Their existence is only known to a few of the higher ups in A.C.E or the Indigo League. Most Lima-Ones such as Raikou, Suicune and Entei along with the Legendary Birds are more known because they're more active. Unown's however? They're hidden deep underneath ancient ruins deep within the Dark Continents.

Am I alluding to the fact that there is maybe a hint of Mystery Dungeon in this universe. Maybe....

Well, they do possess a higher capacity for benevolent behaviour than most other mon in this universe. Yes, I would consider them an exception. They're also the definition of mother hens in this universe, other than Kanghaskans, and are violently protective of their patients.

Pokémon that aren't exactly 'legendary' tier nor Psychic, but can still communicate with others. Lucario, for example.

Yeah. No. That's retconned out of this universe. Only psychic types can communicate and even then, psychic communication is more like translation rather than pure conversation for untrained psychic types.

E.G

A highly trained psychic type pokemon would be able to fluently speak and understand English.

A wild psychic type would be only able interpret meanings, not pure language and associate meanings with certain things. Say, for example, you train them that red equals bad and blue equals good. A whistle means this and a stamp on the ground means that.

The Ultra Beasts from the most recent games.

Ultra Beasts are Lima-Ones or Legendaries that infrequently appear on the islands of Aiola. They are unable to maintain their existence on Earth for long periods of time due to their relative dimensional instability.

Basically, they're just like the Legendaries.

Several Questions:

1. Would there not be some people who brave the Dark Continental Areas for a chance to get rich? Afterall, there are probably a lot of artifacts from pre-Brink society and rare materials that have not been able to be exploited. Most people who try would surely die, but some would survive, not by having the strongest pokemon, but by learning the tell-tale signs of when, and what type, of danger is afoot, how to avoid certain encounters, etc... These activities would certainly be illegal. It would be a lot in the vein of Stalkers from A Roadside Picnic, Metro 2033, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. This could lead to some very interesting characters and situations.

2. Would some Pokémon go against established rules for each type. Example: Porygon Z was developed to travel between dimensions. Would it be able to travel to and survive in the Distortion World, albeit for a limited period of time? Also, would it be able to communicate with humans, seeing as how it is literally developed by humans and computer software.

3. When a Pokémon is two-types, how do you decide on its training. Example: Sableye is a Dark and Ghost type. Can it trained without needing to be channeled like a dark type, or does it need both, or does it need something unique to itself IE: Feeding it gyms in lue of feeding it your soul.

4. How do farms work in this world? Do Dodrios and Miltanks replace chickens and cows? Do people raise Tropiuses for bananas?

I see... I was planning on making an older character, one that had reached the peak of the Pokémon League in their prime (ranking as a League Finalist with 1-4 Flames, but not the 5th Flame) who has since become a "Prospector" (in quotation marks because they'd be more of a wanderer than a legitimate explorer). Given their experience as a trainer, I would have liked their deal with the surrounding governments for access to the Dark Continents to be something along the lines of 'I'll relay any important data I find, just don't bother me,' accepted for the sole reason that said character had proven themselves incredibly strong. However, a pivotal point in that character would be the ownership of an Unown... Thus, my mention of it in particular.

So, would it be alright for a trainer like one described above to have an Unown?

I noticed it before, but... Isn't it Alola -- like a play on 'Aloha', but with an L instead of an H? Regardless, I have another question regarding the Ultra Beasts, and that is in regards to the Beast Balls necessary to catch them. In the game, the reasoning behind the need for Beast Balls was due to the fact regular Pokéballs wouldn't easily register the UBs as actual Pokémon... But is that still the case here? I'm aware that catching the UBs in this RP would be near-impossible, but I'm still curious.

I'm a little bit tentative about this since Unown are essentially Legendary based Pokemon....but alright, I'll let you have it. Just keep in mind that massive amount of Unown's are required to pull of the reality-warping shit in the anime, aight?

Nope. You cannot catch any Legendaries in this RP. Period. They are like walking forces of nature. It's not like in the anime where Tobias has a Latias and a fucking Darkrai. Nope. It's not that.

Yep. But you have to get from a license from the government which is tricky. And with all realistic universes, there is almost assuredly a illegal way to get into the Dark Continents. Same with smuggling high-level pokemon from Ranger Protected areas and so forth.

2. Would some Pokémon go against established rules for each type. Example: Porygon Z was developed to travel between dimensions. Would it be able to travel to and survive in the Distortion World, albeit for a limited period of time? Fun fact. Porygon Z is in fact a bootleg version of Porygon2. Imagine a scriptkiddie trying to make a supercomputer better and you got PorygonZ. PorygonZ is extremely glitchy and almosto n the point of malfunctioning.

And no, aside from Dark Types and Ghost Types, there is no forseeable way for anything other than those types to navigate the distoriton. Any machinery or any other living organism ceases to function and becomes a gibbering wreck of their former selves.

In this universe, humanity's technology has been able to allow basic function of machinery in the distortion, although, this is extremely expensive and only restricted to quantum computer tech such as Porygons. So, yes, Porygon Z's, 2's and even basic Porygons could survive exposure to the distortion, although they would become extremely laggy to the point of non-functionality and if exposed to distortion miasma or any ghost attacks, they dead.

Dual-Types are not really that complicated. Dual-Types refers to a Pokemon that exhibits major characteristics of two types. Could you expand a little bit more on the training part? Training in this univesre is not like the anime. It resembles more conditioning and so forth.

For example, with your Sableeye example, Sable-Eyes feed on your soul still but still require a diet of gems due to being mostly organic with its dark type characteristics. Sable-Eyes also inherit traits of dark types such as being insanely paranoid.

4. How do farms work in this world? Do Dodrios and Miltanks replace chickens and cows? Do people raise Tropiuses for bananas?

Yes. People eat Pokemon in this world due to all terran-indigenous organisms being replaced by them after the Brink. You'll see Slowpoke Tail Farms, Miltank Farms, Tauros Farms, etc, etc, etc.  Pokemon eat Pokemon and so forth. However, there's only a certain amount of species you can eat.

Hell, in fact, farms have become boosted by Pokemon due to the need for intensive farming as large-scale farming no longer works with the threat of invading Pokemon territory. Pokemon are much more nutritous and beneficial to one's health than regular terran-organisms that we used to dine on.

You can have a Tauros Patty, a smoked Ratata, a braised Tepig, a fried Magikarp, etc ,etc ,etc, anything you can virtually think of .

anything you can virtually think of .

anything you can virtually think of that won't kill you before you have the chance to kill it

You didn't show your edits so I showed them for you XD

And also, species that you can't eat.

You can't eat a Onix for example. Nor can you eat a Magmortar. Or can you eat most other species in this world. Or a Muk, for example.

When I'm a senior (Go Freshman!), my senior quote is going to be, "You can do anything you set your mind towards doing. It's just that everything you come up with isn't always a good idea."

I'm pretty sure that applies here

Also, is there any information we NEED to have in the backstory for our pokemon or is it basically anything's fine

@Borkus Lazorus

Also, I don't know if it's been asked already, but are there Mega Evolutions in this universe?

Yes. Gyms are a thing in this universe. Although, there's no dark type Gym in Kanto. Johto has one, however.

Also, is there any information we NEED to have in the backstory for our pokemon or is it basically anything's fine

Any information that is relevant for the purpose of your character or the roleplay is fine.

Also, I don't know if it's been asked already, but are there Mega Evolutions in this universe?

@Borkus Lazorus

Yes. There are Mega Evolutions in this universe, although, it's a closely guarded national secret in Kalos.

Pokemon eggs do exist in this universe, correct?

I'm taking the real life version of biology and saying that some pokemon lay eggs in this universe. It's ridiculous that a Tentacruel can lay eggs or some other mammal can lay eggs in this universe. The offspring may be produced through giving birth, laying eggs, asexual reproduction, planting seeds and so on and so on.

Pokemon are calle Paramon in this universe, correct?

Correction. The entire Pokemon taxamonic group is known as the Para-Kingdom in Poke-biology studies. Scientists prefer to use the more colliqual expression 'pokemon' rather than ' a member of this branch of the Para-Kingdom' or referring to this slightly differnet rock type as a ' Biolith' rather than a 'Mineral'.
