I don't believe they can replicate metals. threads are already stronger than steel. So metal threads are more like thin titanium alloy. Still can be broken by a realy high grade of reaper thread but they are the strongest of the basic wearver threads besides light and shadow.

Only the Shadow Weavers and Light Weavers have claws, just like in the book. Also, to answer the metal question. It resembles an alloy of most strong metals such as steel, iron, titanium, and things of the sort. You can melt them, but the Weaver will have to be within range of making that form change. How far you can go from your Threads without them disconnecting depends on your Rank. Every Rank goes up 100m. Ex: Rank 1 can walk up to 100m away from their Threads, while a Rank 8 can walk 800m away.
