Rays Through The Eclipse [Closed]

Alys nodded taking this in she stopped looking at him. She was more confident in herself now she didn't want to get Ahmose or Gwen killed, or anyone else for that matter.

"What would you suggest then? Because I don't see any other options." Then again they were negotiating with terrorists.

<***>

The ancient looked up and stood slowly his old bones aching. He captured both of her shoulders in his hands and his golden eyes captured hers.

"You be careful out there, every vampire wants your head on a pole right now. Don't worry about me because I'll be to busy worrying about you to get in any trouble and I have my nephew." He smiled a little and kissed her on both cheeks.

“The same as I would have suggested last time,” none of Ahmose’s opinions had changed. Only now he knew from a rather frustrated Dean that Gwen would have wanted them to move on as if she had died. Dean seemed torn by that, but he wasn’t given the position the lead.

‘I mean, I know she wouldn’t negotiate for any of us.’ Dean had admitted, ‘But I still…I’m not sure what to do with her gone. Not really.’ He had talked of joining another group. Of them all, it seemed Dean was the only member to truly accept that Gwen was likely dead.

“I would suggest you do as Gwen would have wanted, but you’ve had a week to think on that, and have decided against your leader’s wishes,” as he understood them, anyway.

Gwendolen remained still when the ancient placed his hands on her shoulders and pulled himself up. She wondered briefly what sort of vampire would turn someone this old into a vampire. She hadn’t asked Ceaserus about that, or if his relationship with his sire had actually been good.

Somehow his existence just seemed like a vampire’s idea of a cruel joke. For how kind he was now, Gwen hoped it hadn’t been. “I’ll do my best,” Gwen answered him, “Do take care of Aiden. He…,” she wanted to say he had a lot to learn, but shook her head, dismissed it, “I owe him.” One. Just one.

Gwen imagined Aiden would become her enemy again, when she returned to the life of the rebels. It was such a shame, too.

Alys nodded thinking on it. She had been thinking this whole week on it. She just didn't think she was meant to lead she regarded the vampire again after she came back up out of her thoughts.

"We move on then, Dean was the only one who knew Gwens plan inside and out so he should be the leader. He has less supporters than me but that is only because of Keegan and my Father." It had been the first time in a long time she had actually spoken his name and it made her eye twitch but her expression remained the same."

<***>

Ceaserus smiled and patted her cheek and released her nodding. "I'm sure he'll cash in on that, but he has much to learn." The old man had lived so many lives he was one of the last of his generation to be left on the earth. He was beyond comprehension of years, he had to many to keep count of. His ancient face turned back to his task.

"I will see you again, and when I do I will be happy."

Ahmose blinked when he heard the name Keegan, “Have I met him?” He asked aloud, not realizing, of course, that Keegan was dead. He didn’t remember the rebel among all the others, but it was quite possible he was someone that Ahmose had overlooked. There were so many of them. “Keegan, that is,” he was positive her father was dead. Most rebels didn’t live long enough to see their children reach adulthood.

Gwendolen’s smile broadened a bit.

She did not believe Ceaserus about seeing him again, but then, she tried never to believe people about that. She did not return his farewell then, but bowed, although it was unlikely he’d make out the gesture, Gwen could hope.

Not one for goodbyes, Gwen then turned and took off running. ‘Quick now, quick.’ She knew that the blood in her veins was human, a rare treat, and far superior than that of animals which she usually dined on. She imagined she could make it to the old camp before sunrise, and rest there during the day.

Then, she’d try to figure out which direction her group had left in.

Alys didn't flinch as she answered. "No, He was our leader after my father passed. He died a little while ago and then Gwen took over." She blinked not allowing herself to tear up. "Everyone liked him, he was the best human fighter they had ever seen." She looked away like she was thinking back, she smiled a little. "I guess you could say I knew him very well and that we were a good pair. Very popular among our group."

She blinked again looking at the ground she swallowed hard and looked up again wiping the emotion from her features. "He was a natural leader, sadly I am not even though many of the rebels wish to see me lead once more."

<***>

Aiden watched her go from his perch on the roof and it seemed the ancient and he mumbled a prayer at the same time. "May the gods go with you, and Zues show you favor." He wished her speed and darkness to cover her. He swallows at the very unusual burn in his chest. He hadn't felt this kind of pain in centuries.

Gwendolen had just bypassed the capital when she caught sight of a familiar woman, and a vaguely familiar man. ‘Alys? And….’ It dawned on her after a moment, and she was both delighted and surprised to see the vampire, Ahmose, there. Unchained, even.

It brought a smile to Gwen’s lips. She had worried Alys wouldn’t accept any vampire.

However, the rebel was entering the capital. ‘What are you doing?!’ Gwendolen narrowed her eyes, noting the other vampires were allowing this entry. She couldn’t rightly call out to them, or she’d draw attention to herself, and the vampires wanted her dead.

Still, she had to know what was going on. ‘Damn it….’ She took in a breath, and decided to try and weave her way closer to follow them, without being noticed.

~***~

Ahmose listened to the information about Keegan, and it became clear that Keegan was dead. ‘Doesn’t fit the timeline I know.’ He knew now that Gwendolen was Gawain, and Gawain had been active for years. ‘Did your group join Gwen’s?’ He didn’t get to ask that, though.

They made it to the location, and there were guards there. However, they were allowed in, and one vampire acted as guide to show them to where Phoenix would be.

Alys held her head high black ringlets in a tight braid. She wore old world army pants and a Tshirt with her knives on her belt. Her rifle was gone and the missing familiar weight made her nervousness but it didn't show. She was here to tell Pheonix to shove it. She pushed Keegan far from her mind and walked with power toward the vampire who would most likely try to kill her.

Ahmose could tell the other vampires were looking at him oddly, considering he wasn’t bound. He could go free at any time, in theory. A few cast wary looks at Alys for this, wondering how capable she might be if Ahmose wasn’t trying to escape.

At the tent, a vampire held out his hand, “Disarm.”

Ahmose answered, “I have no weapons,” which was accurate. The rebels certainly wouldn’t trust him with any.

Alys removed her belt and handed it to the man with somewhat of a scowl. She hadn't bound Ahmose because he was not a prisoner and there was no need to pretend he was.

She stepped into the tent taking one more look at the other vamp, she pushed all her emotions into a bottle and buried it. She was good at that. Her eyes were stormy and focused and her face was utterly still like a war lords might be. She laid eyes on Phoenix and stopped taking in the red headed vamp.

"I'm guessing I am here to see you."

Phoenix was obvious once in sight. Ahmose held his back straight, and did not even try to play at prisoner when he saw her.

He knew Phoenix would see right through that.

Instead, he would play up his authority. He was old, too, after all. Older than most. “Where’s the dhampir, Phoenix?” He spoke it more as a command for information, than as a request.

Little did he know that Gwen was quite close. She’d gotten her weapons again, and had come up behind one of Phoenix’s guards. “Shh,” she pressed the metal of the blade against the lips of the vampire, while one arm wrapped itself around the vampire’s waist. She was staying close to the vampire to mask her own scent from them. This close, her scent wouldn’t even be noticed.

At least, that was her hope. “You’re going to take me closer to the tent,” she whispered. She wanted to hear the conversation, “Or this blade is going through your heart.”

The witch actually laughed and Alys burned with anger. "So you have come to play me then? One puny human and a vampire who lost his usefulness a long time ago. How....cute." She laghed again.

"This will be done on my terms. Do as I say and I won't kill you both." Her piercing green eyes turned serious. "I want Ahmoses head and that's what I'll trade for the girl." She said simply standing.

Alys glared at the woman there was no way she'd let that happen.

"No, I will not trade one body for another. You have not been truthful with me." She growled only anger showing in her eyes.

Ahmose hadn’t expected this gambit. He wondered if his story, or Phoenix’s, would be believed before a council.

His eyes moved around the tent as Alys responded, and a slow smile crept on his lips. It wasn’t like Phoenix to hide the evidence of what she’d done to another, “Where is Gwendolen, Phoenix?” He spoke softer, a hint of smugness in his tone as his eyes returned to Phoenix, “Or do you not have her?”

That would be quite the hit to the ego. “Did she escape, Phoenix?” He hoped. Phoenix might not admit it, but Ahmose thought that if she got angry, that would be proof enough.

Phoenix's eyes burned she definitely wanted nothing more than Ahmose's head for her collection. She balled her hands into fists glaring at him. "I assure you that she is in my custody" she hissed.

Alys looked at Ahmose catching his smile. She couldn't help but smile either. "That's why she hadn't been paraded before us? Because she escaped?" Alys couldn't help but laugh. "If you don't have Gwen I don't know why we are still standing here." Alys turned to leave and the guards at the flap of the tent covered the exit.

Her anger was indeed enough. Ahmose laughed aloud, disbelief evident. He had thought it impossible, but apparently there was someone who could defy the odds.

Without Gwen, there was no reason to stay. Of course, when Alys started towards the doors, the guards moved.

Gwendolen had been closer to the tent by then, close enough to hear the conversation and the laughter. ‘Idiots.’ Though a smile played on her lips at the idiocy of Alys. Why didn’t Dean insist on leaving the area? Likely too soft-hearted.

Gwen heard the movements to leave, and then the movement of the tent flaps. “If you run, you’ll live,” she spoke to the vampire she held, and released them. That one was smart enough to flee, and Gwen walked around to the front of the tent, behind the two vampires trying to guard the way out.

“I’d move if I were you,” she spoke to the vampires.

They turned on her hissing. They both grabbed for her with flashing fangs.

Alys watched as the guards turned and she slipped the knife from her boat and plunged it into one of the vampires spine. She planted her boat on his back and pushed him away.

All the while Pheonix was getting angrier she lunged for Alys hoping to go for the weaker link. Ahmose had no reason to protect her she thought to herself so she grabbed Alys' braid and Yankee her back aiming to sink her teeth into the humans neck.

Gwendolen was able to step out of range of them both, and then was allowed to focus on one when Alys grabbed another. She clicked her tongue on the roof of her mouth, as if disappointed with the vampire’s choice, “It’d really be smarter to run,” she tried to say, “I am the one who escaped Phoenix’s cell. You know how many died….”

His friend fell, not dead, but momentarily paralyzed by the blade that pierced his back. It didn’t detour the vampire. Fortunately, by then Gwen had backed up to a tree. One wouldn’t think it a good move when the vampire lunged, but Gwen moved to the left and the vampire missed his mark. His hand reached out for the tree instead of Gwen, and bent awkward on the connection. His head almost collided with the bark.

Gwen just moved behind him and cut his head right off.

Then she turned to the second vampire, just starting to get up from Alys’s attack, and beheaded him, before noticing what was going on in the tent.

Ahmose did get involved. The fangs of another vampire didn’t scare him, so he turned quickly to face the scene, and he reached out. He planned to put his hand between Phoenix’s fangs and Alys’s neck. He knew it would hurt, but not enough.

His other hand, however, reached out for Phoenix’s wrist. He planned to grab it, and break it, so that Phoenix would be forced to release Alys.

Ahmose hand did its job for the most part, instead of sinking into her neck the red head vampires fangs sank into her shoulder. She cried out in pain and turned willing her nice around to stab the woman in her face the searing pain in her shoulder screamed as Phoenix sunk down harder.

Phoenix felt her wrist brake and she cried out but didn't release her victim. The knife in the humans hand sunk into her cheek and she clamped down harder sinking her free clawed hand into her other shoulder shredding it to ribbons. Alys almost fell to her knees as her vision blurted and she cried out again. Crimson sprayed the carpet.

Ahmose would not bring himself to kill Phoenix. Gwen saw that in how he was reaching to grab a fistful of red-hair to pull Phoenix off of Alys, rather than cut open the throat.

The two vampires outside were dead, so Gwen moved into the tent and decided to take Phoenix’s position to her advantage. If she didn’t want to remove herself from Alys, that was fine with Gwen. Holding onto Alys was keeping her stuck in one area, especially since Ahmose wasn’t releasing that wrist.

Gwen moved to get behind Phoenix, and then slashed at the back of the woman’s neck to take her head off, as Ahmose had reached for her hair, not realizing that if he succeeded, he would be aiding Gwen in the death of Phoenix.

Alys gritted her teeth as she saw Gwen go for the kill she moved forward making Pheonix stretch out her neck. She cried out as the vampires teeth ripped through her shoulder in what felt like down to the bone.

Phoenix slumped as the blade moved through her spinal column. Her head separated from her body in a giant gush of crimson and a nasty riping sound.

With Phoenix dead, Gwen stepped back. Her eyes were a bit wild. She wanted to demand a reason from Alys, but decided that was best done in safety. She made a gesture out of the tent, and hoped Alys would understand the gesture was a demand for her to lead the way back to camp.

‘God forbid camp be at the same place.’

Gwendolen had no idea how upset she was about to be with her group for the stupidity of trying to save her, and not moving camp.

Ahmose was stunned to see Phoenix fall, dead. He hadn’t wanted her dead—not truly, and so it was a knife to the heart. She was old, a beacon of knowledge. She was wrong, of course, but Ahmose was an optimist. He wanted to talk things out.

He was doubly surprised when he saw who did it. This was the blonde dhampir who had spared his life. Gwen, the one they were all looking for, had timed things perfectly. He saw her gesture to Alys, and looked to her. He gave a nod. They had nothing else to do here—they had what they came here for, surprisingly enough. They could head back to camp.

Alys held her shredded shoulder blood seeping beneath her fingers and she walked out of the tent. She had claw marks all down her other arm and her side. She continued on though like the sticky blood wasn't making her woosey.

She led them towards the woods away from the vampires.
