Most backlash is unwarranted. Unless you are committing criminal behavior. Though, even then it should be sorted by the appropriate resources.
Personal backlash rarely solves anything. I'm certain, whatever the situation is, those being pranked know their friends well. Or those pranking others
know their audience. I'm just assuming here though. I don't watch you tube very often.
 
It depends on what type of prank. There are some in good fun among friends but then you have 'pranks' that are harmful against unsuspecting people by idiots. In that case, yes, backlash and whatever consequences follow are solely on the responsible party.
 
I'm alright with consequences, just not from mobs, either online or in person. Any punishment should be balanced, fair, and preferably in spirit of some sort of rehabilitation. No punishment for punishment's sake.
