Other Random question of the day

No answers yesterday. What a shame.

Random question of the day:

Would you say that some YouTubers are posers due to them pretending to be like other YouTubers?
I check out youtube for two reasons:
  1. listening to music (as I'm doing now)
  2. DIY: referencing how to repair stuff, like diagrams and such. Just yesterday I needed to find the belt routing for a Buick Lucerne.
Other than that, I don't do much else on youtube. So... yeah

Taking inspiration from other people is a normal thing in all creative pursuits. Naturally, some people are just trying to copy another’s formula, but I certainly wouldn’t use the word ‘posers’.

Random question of the day:

What's the dumbest reason you've ever been banned from a website/Discord server?
I got kicked from a Discord group because "We don't write like that here".

This was referring to my post length, in that my multi-paragraph, multi-post, 800 + word intro was greatly frowned upon by the server heads.

There was also another group (that I followed from the off-site section of another adult RP forum site I'm on) that just kicked me for reasons unknown. It was a new group, and they hadn't really finished setting up. I asked a couple of questions about the setting and what kind of characters could be allowed. Typical questions. It was very dry and formal. And then... I dunno. the next day I went to check on the status of the WIP lore and I was kicked. I thought maybe it was a mistake, so I rejoined, and then was in for a minute before getting kicked again. So, it was clearly intentional. But I got no explanation as to why. Oh, well. C'est la vie.

I’ll find it annoying there’s no privacy or my personal boundaries will be violated. I’d just rather have a small group of close friends.

Theoretically, that would be annoying. Can't relax without someone stalking you.

Random question of the day:

What would it be like to be attractive to the point where guys or girls would be all over you?
Who says I'm not already at that point? lmao

jk

tbh, I think it would be interesting to be able to wrap people around my proverbial finger like that. I could probably get a lot of free stuff and favors. But at the same time, it would suck to know that the only reason people would like me was for my looks. And realistically, I'd catch as much hate for my stunning good looks as I would admiration. People would say that I only got anywhere because of my attractiveness and not by my own merit.

A lot of them actually! Most of my current irl friends were originally online friends! I met some of them 10+ years ago through various fandoms (anime or games mostly) lol Some of them are from different cities or even countries but we keep in touch irl as well.
We got along well online, it was the same when we met in real life.

I haven't just yet, but after moving east one of my online friends and I discovered we were less then 2 hours away from each other. Transportation is a bit of a hassle but we've been talking about it for months, we're hoping to meet up come the new year. I'm really excited! (I haven't hung out with anyone face to face in more than a year though, my social skills are lacking.. so a little nervous too. waauuhgh)

Random question of the day:

Have you ever met one of your online friends in real life? If so, what was it like meeting them in person?
no. The people that I know both irl and online were already friends from real life that just linked up to whatever common online venue we could share. But to be honest, I don't really engage irl friends through online means. They just call and hang out the old-fashioned way.

Yes I met them while they were driving to my city to have lunch. From my experience they were pretty fun we talked a lot.

Random question of the day:

Why do some celebrities get their fame handed to them on a silver platter (Aka, being famous for no reason)?
people go gaga over the stupidest things. and imo, fame isn't earned. It's given by the public (and by the public, I mean us). So a better source question would be:
"Why do we propel undeserving people into fame?"

Family with connections and enough money to fund their careers from a young age. I do think luck has a hand in it, but having the resources to set yourself up for success from the very beginning can give you a running start other people don't have

Random question of the day:

Why do some celebrities get their fame handed to them on a silver platter (Aka, being famous for no reason)?
Money! Money makes the world go round, hence Silver Platter. Money breeds exposure, exposure breeds fans. Kinda just the way we work. Human beings REALLY like idolizing people, sometimes for all the wrong reasons.

Not sure if I asked this one before, but...

Random question of the day:

Is there such a thing as being too optimistic and/or open-minded?
yes. Being too optimistic is just being unrealistic. And being too open-minded leads to having no standards

Murdergurl Murdergurl is pretty much right on the money there. Optimism can have such downsides as being overly trusting, overconfident and underestimating the risks or costs (including costs in effort) of doing something. You could even bring more harm to those around you simply by failing to see your own behavior in a more critical light, and thus failing to understand the need to correct yourself.

As for open-mindedness, at a point it simply becomes having no real thoughts of your own. As murdergurl said, you’d be lacking in standards.

Random question of the day:

If your future children (If you're going to have any) ask you what the 2020s were like, what would you tell them?
I have a child (he's 4). I don't plan on having more. But I guess if I was to tell a future child what this decade was like. I would say it was... one that clung to romanticized versions of old ideas and tried to renew them as their own. but failed miserably. The music is bad, the politicians are idiots (though, I'm sure every generation believes this), the cars have lost any sense of style and become needlessly complicated. Movies and television have become a regurgitation of tropes that very few even understand the origin of. And people have largely lost their own identities on account of social media lending to the homogeny of their personalities and interests.

But on the upside, we DID have a global pandemic that goaded the government to issue out stimulus checks that in turn made a workforce shrink and demand more money for their labor. That was a plus.
