Your own example highlights my other point, which was the fact that his statements, present or past, had no intentions to shame another site.  I personally know that Wizard and the site owner of Iwaku are good acquaintances.  The owner of Iwaku is a great person and they would have no trouble testifying for Wizard's words.

While I do not fully understand and agree with the logic behind this decision and stance, it is the decision of the administrator and we will have to step back and respect it. I was just caught off-guard at the misinformation and misdirection that has been going on - but it isn't my place to spout off factual information about the laws and the ins and outs of it here when it is quite clear that they are not going to budge. In the first place, I am not that enthusiastic about sexual content and roleplaying put together. I'm neutral, but the discrepancies in their information is tempting me to put forth a large post correcting them. It is not their fault if they have not researched yet enough past what keeps RPN family-friendly.

I'm going to respect it I can always go some where else to do an erotic rp I'm not going to go against the site because of it

this isn't really the right place to be asking this question-maybe ask him by creating a PM instead :)  this topic is for questions related to erotic roleplaying.

Uhh good point. Is erotic only mean sex. Or can makeing out be erotic

Making out is fine.  As previously stated, any writing which contains content that describes touching of the genitalia in any manner is considered erotic.

Did you guys actually go and read the site policies and information over there, or am I the only one who reads? There is a section of Iwaku that is dedicated to erotic roleplaying, or sexual content in age-locked areas, but that doesn't make it an erotic roleplaying site. I have read the fine print - they make a clear distinction between what is considered sexual content in a roleplay and what you call sexting and cybering.

Because Iwaku allows erotic content, they are considered an erotic site, age-locked or not.

However, this PSA isn't about Iwaku - it's about RpNation's policies and why they are in place. :)

I have a question.

Im on a few RP sites. And some allow erotic Role Play.    Now I've dabbled in it myself, not that I get a kick out of it, just sometimes you need to go into different fields of writing.

is writing on those sites technically illegal then?  Why don't they mention it?

Writing on sites with minors is illegal. Thus, it could be illegal to write on those sites.

You never know who's on the other side of the screen. People lie about their ages all the time!

Most communities don't expect/account for minors slipping in if they're 18+, as that's not their target audience, and so they're not mentioned.

Regardless of being age restricted, there's no way that they can actually prove the members who registered under the consent giving age are actually telling the truth.  This leads back to our previous discussion about the laws that the site needs to follow.  I'm well aware of Iwaku's Terms of Service.  I had an account there myself.

On on that front, then, wouldn't the fact that the minor lied about their age be enough to cover your back? And if not why not.

Also, it's not cybering

i,e "I lifted you onto the bed and felt your thigh"

its part of the characters story

i,e "Sam lifted Gretl onto the bed. He'd had a hard day so he needed this after work. He began to feel her thigh"

its indirect.

Neither of those things matter.

As stated in the PSA, being unaware of age is almost never a valid defense.

It being indirect doesn't change anything, either, and you're also not protected by creative licence as it's not published. If you gave a CD with pornography on it to a minor, you could be arrested - roleplaying is the same thing in the eyes of the law.

I believe it boils down to the fact that they were able to access it by lying about their age.  The best example I can give is this.  If I go to a restaurant, which serves alcoholic drinks to persons of age, and my mother orders an alcoholic drink, fine.  But, if I take that beverage and consume it, the restaurant can be held responsible for my actions.

That's not to say that I will not face consequences of my own.  Nor is it to say that the minor who lied will get away scot-free, either.

Thats worrying.   But also daft (not you, the law).  I mean.  Giving a porno DVD to a minor has obvious intention.  The Minor is there in front of you.  With all of their youngness.  And you, the adult, have intently given them porn.

But, all you'd be doing on RP sites is, writing a story with someone you have been told is 18+. What other judgment have you got to go on.

For the Record, im not complaining about RPNs rules.  I'm just curious.

According to American law, you cannot participate in any type of sexual activity with a minor because they legally cannot give you their consent.  It does not matter what your judgment has to go on.  In this environment, there could be users as young as 11.  I joined my first online site when I was 12.  It's not very hard or moral degrading to lie about your age on a registration form.  With this knowledge, it is assumed that the user you are talking to could be a minor.  Now, if RpN were to say that users should be 18 years or older, there's still now loophole out of that, because there's no way for the site owner to actually authentically verify that this user is of age.

Hmm yes, I do see where you are coming from here, actually.  It seems like a very tricky one indeed.

Im sort of pleased this site doesn't allow that, it opens the doors for the site to be much... Less of a sex minefield.

I'm pretty sure, and don't lie, kids, that a vast majority of us have lied to the 18 years old and above agreement thing on certain erotic websites.

Sorry i'm not really on topic with everyone right now, i haven't really roleplayed in here for a while... But you know what i really love about this site and what has reminded me what i love about this site? The way we speak to each other (most of the time) in this chat, so fluidly, subconsious respect, we talk like a community, our hearts are open, mostly of course. When you see discussions on facebook its like hell has broken loose and war is on its way. xD  It feels warm here.

I wasn't really worried about this, but quite honestly this is a great explanation of why RPN doesn't allow erotic. I actually didn't even know roleplaying such things in say, Skype was technically not legal - that's quite interesting, and honestly also very unfortunate; many people can have a fantastic time character building with an adult/mature theme, one that involves yes, sex, in such environments such as Skype, IRG chats, etc - and that is a very unfortunate thing. Mature/erotic themes can yes, just be horny kids doing horny things, but many times some deep character development can happen if roleplayed right.

While saddening that some roleplay has to be kept to dark corners only the NSA know of, I understand this.

This also brings up another saddening fact: Roleplay is not considered published work. A lot of roleplays give people fantastic ideas for fanfiction and the like, and since it's online there's little to no defense legally, beyond the barest forms of copyright. this is quite unfortunate, and honestly as much as I am against restrictions on the Internet that have been preached by people who can't take the Internet, I wish that laws would extend to protect works published online, or in Skype/IRG/IM services. Some people like to do such roleplays, as they can be fun and help with creativity.

I'm referring to erotic roleplay - which I call cybering, but I guess everyone has a different use for that word.

Couldnt have put it in better words myself

So now i pose another question, isn't there a way to make it so that one uses their facebook account in order to sign up on RPN?

or, would it be easier to just make a more mature section, and put an age lock on it. It would involve:

Age restriction on members who are under 21, Making profiles on RPN that are under 21 unable to access the part.
Anyone not a member cannot view it regardless of their age unless they become a member.

Of course, one could make a new profile but doesn't RPN only allow one per IP address? (i only seen one site that is like this surprisingly)

Not that I really care about this stuff, of course i have some characters that have a certain personality that sometimes talk certain things, but i keep it largely PG.
And like I mentioned before, I don't really write erotic stuff, i can make some innuendos, but I suck at writing romance stuff.

anyway, pretty sure there are issues with even what I put in here so dont try killing me about it yet.
