Sarena sighed. "There's nothing I can do to change it. It's my responsibility and I am going to uphold it."

"And you're okay with it?" Takeshi asked in slight disbelief wondering why she was just accepting a fate shoved onto her because she was a princess. "Geez, I guess royalty isn't all luxury after all as you've just proven."

Sarena slammed her hand down. "I am going to fulfill my duty, and that's final," she snapped before regaining her composure.

 

[Forest Dragon Slayer]

"Okay, okay, I get it." Takeshi said as he surrendered in his heart. He was a bit shocked from the sudden brief personality change. "So how are you going to fulfill these duties anyway?"

Sarena sighed. "Go to balls. My mother is looking for eligible princes."

 

[Forest Dragon Slayer]

"That's going to be hard. A ton of them are really stuck up and a lot of them are lousy at fighting." Takeshi said in response. "Last month when there were those two twin princes that visited, they decided to spar with me thinking that they're royal sword style was superior and I beat them both in less than 30 seconds. Or does your mother like that sort of brat?" Takeshi was one of the few people to insult royalty so openly.

 

[Hershey Kisses]

Sarena slammed her hand down and turned on him. "Quiet! You will stop insulting the royalty. I'm tired of your selfishness," she snapped and walked out, an angry flush covering her cheeks.

 

[Forest Dragon Slayer]

"What's wrong princess?" Sarena's bodyguard asked as she passed by him. "You seem angry. It's the first time I've seen you with this much emotion."

 

[Hershey Kisses]

Sarena shook her head, calming herself. "Nothing," she said simply and sighed.

 

[Forest Dragon Slayer]

"I was watching the whole thing your highness and he didn't say anything false." The bodyguard/butler said. "The two princes that visited a month earlier did indeed decide to challenge the boy you were just talking to, wanting to cut him up with their metal swords for fun just because he was a commoner. While it was a rude comment, his insult wasn't completely baseless. A wise man once said that a person must look at both perspectives before coming to a personal conclusion."

Sarena sighed. "I know," she murmured then walked back into the room. "I'm sorry," she murmured,

"Don't worry about it." Takeshi said in response. "I think I was out of line to say things in such a blunt way. If anything, I should be the one apologizing."

"Don't get so worried about it." Takeshi said. "Everyone says something they shouldn't say occasionally as demonstrated by the two of us just a few minutes earlier. As long as we can get past it, we'll be fine."

Sarena smiled, looking at him. "You sound like my father," she murmured.

 

[Forest Dragon Slayer]

"Eh, I sound like an old man? That must mean I'll sound like a hundred year old man when I turn fifty!" Takeshi said in a joking tone as the king was already in his fifties before going back to his normal tone. "Well, I overheard his majesty say that a while back and I thought it fit the situation so that's why I said it. No wonder it sounded like him."

Sarena chuckled and looked down. "So, um, what do you want to do?"

 

[Forest Dragon Slayer]

"I'm not exactly sure." Takeshi replied somewhat bashfully. He then felt killer intent from afar. "Get down!" He shouted as he pulled Sarena to the ground, slashing at an incoming arrow with a wooden stake that was used for gardening. Although the wooden stake broke, the arrow was successfully deflected, not even touching a hair on Sarena's head. At the notice of an assassin, the royal guards were already capturing the assailant. "Princess, sorry about the suddenness. are you okay?" Takeshi asked Sarena as he brought her back up to a sitting position.

Sarena sat up, shaking and looked at Takeshi with wide eyes. "I-I'm fine."

 

[Forest Dragon Slayer]

"I'm glad you're alright. Maybe you should stay in your room or something with bodyguards for now. There might be more of them." Takeshi said feeling relieved as he stood up and like a gentleman, he offered his hand to help her up.

Sarena took his hand and let him help her up. "I think you're right," she says.

 

[Forest Dragon Slayer]

"Come on, let's get moving. It seems that combat butler of yours is going after the assassin and I don't feel secure in leaving you alone." Takeshi said as he led Sarena by the hand into the castle.

Sarena followed and looked back over her shoulder.

"Don't worry, I'll protect you." Takeshi said to reassure Sarena as they got into the main palace. "Even if I'm not a knight, I swear I'll keep you safe."

Sarena nodded, squeezing his hand. "Thank you," she said.
