I'm not great at starting conversations...

Um...

What are you doing right now?
Lying on my bed in my pajamas, looking down at my phone and replying to only thing I'm participating in on RpN anymore. XDD

And watching Gordon Ramsay yell at some people, too.

Also, sidenote, I was looking up Lucario (reference for my sketch, I'm working on it) and this picture popped up and I just thought it was so cute I had to share it.

Always fun. I'm starting to work on my drawing, but I was also playing with my dog. English Mastiff. I love that species so much, they look so intimidating but they're really one of the sweetest species ever. Their nickname is the "Gentle Giant." They're so big and strong, so you can just hug them and squeeze them as hard as you want and they'll just sit there and smile, so I like to sit with her when I'm in a bad mood. They're also SUPER protective: when I lay down both of my mastiffs will stand over me, two paws on one side and two paws on the other to protect me in case something happens. And they make sure that, wherever they are, they can see out the window or at the door. I just love 'em so much.

...

er, excuse my rambling... I like my dogs a lot.

Aww, cute! I'm familiar with the breed, yea. They do look scary, but from what I've seen, they are very sweet creatures. Of course there are one or two bad apples, but still.

I wish I could have dogs... We got some allergics in the family.

Awww. That's unfortunate. What about cats?

Nope, can't do cats either.

And anything else is kind of out of the question. We have a management that's really strict about animals. I guess fish could work, but.. You can't hold, pet, and hug a fish.

I mean, you could, once each.

Agh, man, I don't know what happened. I used to be able to draw Lucarios decently well, but lately it's just been impossible.

*steps back and looks at drawing*

okaymaybeyesiwantsomehelpbecausethisdoesn'tevenlookmediocrethisactuallylookskindofscary

Probably not. Caterpies aren't exactly native to One Island, especially with it being all volcanic and all.

Hey, Latios, another question: what determines whether a move kills or knocks out? How can a hyper beam knock out a Pokémon, but a bite can snap their neck?

If I may throw out an idea, for me, it's always been about intent. A Pokémon can shoot lasers at an enemy, but if they don't want to kill, it won't. On the contrary, if a Pokémon wishes to kill their opponent, even a simple bite can be dangerous.

...any food?
Pokemon that would be edible there would mainly consist of ponyta, machop, and a few other things. But the main population is geodude and slugma

It is about intent. Let's just say if you were to bite someone. You could do two things, simply cause them pain, or go further and make them bleed. Same goes for every Pokemon move out there. You can control how hard you hit depending if you just want to knock them out or kill them. And that's the importance of training, control. No control means that you could kill accidentally

Okay, good. My question then is does the same apply to humans? Could a human shoot a Pokémon, or attack it with a knife, but not want to kill and have it function the same as any ranged or slashing, respectively, move

Yes, if you knew enough about anatomy. You can't really control how hard a bullet hits someone, but you can control where it hit. If you shot somewhere that they wouldn't bleed out from then yeah, you could shot someone and not kill them. Same applies to the knife. Depends on where you cut and how deep you cut.

But for the most part human weaponry has less control behind it than a Pokemon attack.

I mean, like... let's say a human slashes at a Pokémon with a knife. Could they have it so if doesn't break the skin, ala most non-lethal Pokémon moves, while still doing damage, or can they only wound without killing.
