Laurie's initial post-performance relief had dissipated as they watched the other competitors. These coordinators were incredible! They almost wished to simply be in the audience to enjoy watching without any stress. Even so, it was a privilege to spectate. When the results finally came through, they were honestly a little surprised to be advancing.

The break went by far too quickly, and they soon found themselves stood across the sandy battlefield from Nua. Laurie shifted their weight from one leg to the other as they tried to recall as much as possible about their opponent. This was trainer with the Kirlia who had put on a show to please not only the eyes, but the ears too. Would she bring Kirlia to the battle round too?

Yes, as it turned out. This was good news in that Laurie would hopefully be able to anticipate some of the move set.

Without further ado, they tossed a Pokéball into the air to release their reliable partner - Drizzile. As though to answer Suita's spinning, the water lizard drew up two orbs of water from his palms and juggled them with well-practiced precision. Both parties ready, the timer on the holographic screen sounded, signalling the start of the battle.

Laurie didn't waste a moment. "You know what to do! Show them a Tearful Look!"

With a swift clap of his hands, Drizzile burst the balloons in front of his face. The watery curtain splashed away to reveal his expression had swapped from nonchalant to something far different. Pupils large, his wet eyes glistened as they met Suita's stare. He blinked purposefully, tears glittering in the Alolan sun, framing his face with a gentle sparkle. You couldn't possibly bring yourself to harm such a sweet, innocent-looking fellow, right?

Heizou Synopolis
Trainer 101!
Even if Noivern had managed to gain some blows against Houndour, Heizou wasn't quite giddy. The girl before him had taken up the next moments using a move-or, well, command that the confused dog had managed to translate properly. ”Halay, hit the water then load ‘em up, H.E. Shells!" Now what did that exactly mean? Esther must really be getting quite deep through training sessions, making code words. It was a good strategy since she was a coordinator, and other trainers sometimes did the same, but now he had no clue what Houndour was going to do near the water.

It was already surprising the Pokemon could move at all, but Heizou decided he'd have to deal with it. Everything near the water was always a sneaky plan-he knew this from the second she used 'Susu'; the Surskit, against him. He had been a fool then, but now what was he to with Noivern? Houndour had already started to pump up it's own energy and dove straight for the cool liquid. Tasting Alola seas isn't really so hygienic.

Plumes of black smoke began to pour from the area, and Heizou had just caught sight of the gaping mouth of Houndour. Smog? Was that just all her plan? The type of thickness released into the air has a high chance of giving off poisonous effects, so it'd be better if Noivern stayed away. Perhaps the covered air would swell up into where the bat was, but it was better than getting completely swallowed by that sort of sea. Anyone would know better than to interact with that kind of storm.

Maybe if he used Acrobatics to plunge right through, it'd be fine?-That is, if Heizou wanted to have Noivern caught in a sly trap AND to have his partner succumb to 'injuries' that would force the bat into a slumber. He let out a deflated noise from the overstimulating thoughts swirling through his head.

"Noivern, avoid the smog; it's best to just do that. Using Gust might just help it keep a safe distance!"

Even if Gust could probably redirect Smog back towards the rushing waves, the wind would just help push it back towards Heizou's Pokémon. All he could technically do now was hope for the best. After all, Noivern had access to all the air space above him and his opponent.

    Sunny

    Dragon Claw, Supersonic, Gust…that’s three-outta-eight.
Even as Heizou played it cautious, Esther didn’t forget to tally Noivern’s moves. After all, there was a chance they would battle against in the challenge-round and there was wisdom in planning for more than just the battle in front of her. That battle wasn’t going so well anyway…

Houndour’s first snarl ensured Gust didn’t pack the punch it otherwise would’ve, and it looked like Noivern’s goal was to coral the smog rather than attack Houndour. This was fine. The dark Pokémon could always duck beneath the waves to avoid the battering winds; however, playing safe wasn’t apart of Esther’s plan.

She needed to end things quickly but that would be difficult when her opponent controlled the sky. She couldn’t go up there to him, so the only option was…
Gotta get him to come to me.

She needed to Heizou to commit to an offense, one that would draw him in close. In that case…
    ”Abort! Halay, Nasty Plot!”

They would abandon H.E. Shells, it wouldn't work like this. Instead, they'd apply pressure. Heizou wouldn't sit still while Esther allowed her Houndour to raise its offenses even further, would he? If he did then he'd be in big trouble once confusion wore off. And speaking of confusion... Halay was...

Esther’s brows pinched together as Houndour flailed confusedly in the water. Was she…drowning? No…no, the water was too shallow.

Nua wrinkled her nose at their opponent's opening shot. Seriously, how annoying was that? Trying to lull them into some false sense of security with a whole look at me I'm crying! song and dance routine?!

She noticed Suita wobble a bit when the crying started, too...was it a move? The other trainer did say, what, Tearful Look? So it was a move...probably something along the same lines as the Baby Doll Eyes that the Zigzagoon back home liked to use. Nua snapped her fingers — two could play the annoying move game!

"This is your stage, Suita!" She called out to her twirling Kirlia. "Fill it up with <<Double Team>>!"

Suita's rotations picked up momentum, and four clones appeared with a POOF-POOF-POOF-POOF! of pink mist. All five twirled in perfect sync, and they immediately moved into a tight pack then shuffled themselves around. Nua kept her eyes on Suita-prime, but hopefully the shuffle would be enough to confuse their opponents.

They had another way to throw them off, though. With a wide grin, Nua called, "Now use <<Confuse Ray>>!"

With five attacks trailing at the Drizzile in sync, they'd have to anticipate which was the real one!

Double Team? Laurie was expecting that after seeing it in the performance round. The shuffling? They weren't quite so ready. As Suita and his clones danced around like majestic spinning tops, Laurie had two thoughts. Their brain whiplashed with a combination of 'woah, nice!' and 'oh dear.'

Under less stressful circumstances, maybe they would have been able to keep track of which Kirlia was the real deal, but right now Laurie had no idea. There wasn't time to intercept the Confuse Ray, but maybe there was for something else.

"Light Screen, hurry!"

A golden light formed in front of Drizzile. This wouldn't help the situation with the incoming move, but hopefully would pay off after. On top of the effects of Tearful Look, the idea was that the additional damage reduction from special moves would mitigate any self-inflicted harm from being confused.

Confuse Ray penetrated the barrier, Drizzile blinded by its glow.

"It's okay, Drizzile! Steady yourself and use Water Pulse!"

Drizzle staggered for a few moments as he tried to regain balance. Once he was reasonably supported on all-fours, a large burst of water projected from his mouth. All being well, it would have enough range to hit both Suita and his duplicates. If they were really lucky, maybe the opponent would become confused too. The odds for that weren't worth betting on, though.

"Huh? Wait? What" Altair was prepared to sit back and relax and enjoy the Alola region's reputation as a lauded vacation spot after he was done with the whole appeal round thing, he stared at G's appeal as the two other contestants seem to be too busy quibbling with each other. She was more proficient with commanding her Pokemon and knowing their moves, it was progress for sure compared to when they first met in Sinnoh. What Altair didn't expect was to actually move on to the battle rounds.

"Hey guys, uh, I robbed the audience? Why did I pass?" He tried to wave at the judges, but his efforts seemed futile. Maybe this was what those strange gym leaders he has battled before meant by 'avant-garde'. Truth be told, Altair didn't exactly expect to get pass the appeal round, so he didn't even register another Pokemon for the battle round. Although even if he knew, he might've not either. Psion the Klefki has always been his 'ace Pokemon', but unlike most people's conception of a trainer's ace, Psion was a support-type Pokemon through and through. In a one-on-one battle, his abilities were at a distinct disadvantage due to the lack of actual ways to attack.

Before he knew it, G already headed up onto the stage. Despite her inexperience in Pokemon training, she was much more natural at that compared to him. Altair sighed slightly as G told him to buy her lunch if he loses, that girl did know how to hit where it hurts. "Fine then. If that's what you really want." He shrugged before waving his hand, indicating for Klefki to follow him. The other contestants have all been sending out their Pokemon, Pokemon that were different from the ones that they used in the appeal round, but Altair didn't roll like that. "C'mon Psi, let's move then."

G sent out her still somewhat freshly evolved Golduck, the name was a little strange now that it is no longer the same colour as its pre-evolution. Altair calmly returned the Klefki into his Pokeball and released the Pokemon once more, understanding that this is some sort of ceremonial ritual people do during contests, or just to get their money's worth on those seals back. Klefki spun out of its ball and gently hovered above the battlefield, its metallic exterior gleaming under the Alolan sun.

"Right." Altair replied to his (former? currently?) protege.

"Psi, thunder wave." He spoke with an aloofness and calmness that was characteristic of experienced trainers, but it was probably bringing down the mood in a situation like this.

The ring-shaped Pokemon spun into action as a series of electromagnetic waves began to be generated upon its body, and in a blink of an eye thanks to its prankster ability, the small metal fae flashed near the Golduck and released the zipping electricity to paralyze the opponent.

Repeat, repeat, and more repeat. Esther had decided to reuse a move, only doing so that Houndour got increased set of attacks again. This would be way worse if she continued to do this, but the mention of "Abort!" signaled Noivern hadn't gotten the reaction she wanted. At least Heizou had avoided a certain outcome, but still, Houndour was still floating on water. Darn dogs can swim, if only drowning was a particular option.

As Noivern was set in the air, waiting for an order to do anything from Heizou, the clearance of Smog would bound to come soon. Though, a bitter idea came to mind yet again. Hesitant at first, since the the springing light bulb hadn't lit up all the way, but sine Esther used Nasty Plot again, it was only fair for him to do the same. Heizou didn't want to be making a waste of his time, so this was the last mark before having to just go straight in.

Supersonic came from soundwaves, and those soundwaves could easily surpass such thin film of the air. If Houndour could particularly swim fast enough to avoid any blazes, the congratulations. Boomburst was another option, but Heizou was actually saving that for later. At least there was a sense of comfort of using a move again twice, since his opponent had already done so.

"Never knew our opponent liked to hide. Let's try one more time, and if it doesn't work we'll get a bit more dangerous on our behalf of safety, use Supersonic again to give a little push for Houndour. If the Pokémon chooses not to budge, we're out of luck Noivern."

"I know how much of a prankster Psi is, Disable!"

Banana, closed his eyes while it felt the electric waves travel through his body. However, that didn't stop him from looking over at Psi. Golduck held up his webbed claws and aimed at the fairy set of keys. The gem on his forehead sent out and instant flash, followed by a beam directed at Psi.

"Now, this is a contest after all, set up, water army!"

Golduck jumped back to get some space bewtween himself and his opponent. He then charged up a Water Pulse and shot the aquatic sphere into the sky as far as possible. "Sorry, Altari. You are a superior battler, but I am way cooler!"

Nua watched with held breath as their opponent dropped down to charge some water-type attack. The Drizzile's offensive capabilities were an unknown, a black space where the puzzle pieces should be falling, and for all she knew the battle could be decided by this one move.

She watched the spread-out Kirlia and their slow-and-steady dance toward the Drizzile — which one would fall? A call to Suita-prime to get out of the way sat on the tip of her tongue like a Garchomp getting a running start before take-off, but Nua wanted to save that as long as possible. They'd already showed enough of their hand in the appeal rounds! If they pulled their ace too soon...

BLAST-POOF!

The attack, Water Pulse she was pretty sure, careened into one of the inner clones and POOFED! it into a fine mist — YES! Suita and the Suitas continued their dancing, unbothered as usual, and his trainer saw the next puzzle piece fall into place. Nua grinned, cupped her hands around her mouth, and called, "Take the high ground, Suita!"

The Suitas, which had been spread out in a crescent, understood the assignment. The inner two piroutted to meet the outer, and the newly-formed pairs grasped hands to feed each other momentum. The pairs spun ONCE!, TWICE!, and one of each LAUNCHED! into the air to-the-sides-and-above their opponent.

Nua aimed a pair of finger pistols at the Drizzile. Let's see how they like — "Quad-Barrel <<Psybeam>>!"

Each Suita gathered energy and — BANG! Like four lasers focusing on a single point from different angles, four Psybeams SHOT! at Drizzile!

Another super-sonic?
A furrow and a frown creased Esther’s features. What was Heizou playing at?
Could another supersonic lengthen the duration of Halay’s confusion? Would her confusion be worsened? Would it…stop Nasty Plot?

With bated breath, Esther awaited the outcome. Supersonic waves washed over Halay-Alae and…nothing seemed to happen? Halay still stumbled confusedly, and a shroud of dark energy indicated Nasty Plot’s success. What then had supersonic done? What was Heizou’s game…

Whatever it was, she wouldn’t let him succeed! Another stack of Nasty Plot would significantly boost Halay’s damage and that meant it was time to—
”Let’s go Halay, SNARL!”

Halay’s confusion persisted, but Esther had no choice but to try her luck and press the offense!

Definitely not having kept her opponent waiting for over a week, Anju walks on to the battle scene, breathing in a steady rhythm to calm her nerves. She was somewhat surprised that she managed to make it past the appeals round. But at the same time, her late mother's Volcarona was always a star, and could make even Anju's worst plans dazzle (or at least that is what her anxiety told her). Since she did make it though, the girl walked forward.

Upon reaching the arena where the battle would begin, Anju managed to keep a mask of calm, her steady face not wavering. With her mask on, even if it was a small domino mask, she was able to keep up a protective shield between her true self, and the performer. Although she knew it was not a mask she should stick to, that she would need to grow past it eventually, the girl decided to keep it for now.

Her white-knuckled hands clenched at a netball. She really, really wanted to just use Vesta to dominate the battle stage... but the rest of her team needed the experience way more than the Volcarona. As such, she threw the netball up into the air, and from it burst forth a Staryu. "Engarde Neptune!" She calls out.

Looking up to her opponent, Anju forced a small smile. "I wish you luck."

Esther looked somewhat in the way Heizou wanted. Confused. But her pushing out Snarl was also another obvious choice, since she had practically won the last time doing so. But the whole purpose of Supersonic in the first place had done it's job. The slow whisk of emanating fog in the area had quickened until it was fully dispersed. Now the gaze on Houndour was clearer. Plus, Noivern had less things to worry about, which lifted some sort of weight off his shoulders.

A rematch through a battle of sound had begun again, but instead the bat was driving himself closer. The point for that was for Noivern to lead Houndour back to ground level-since his Pokémon couldn't necessarily spend so much time in water.

Since Noivern was inching forth, Supersonic had made more progress. But Nasty Plot was kicking in perfectly as well for Esther's partner, so the struggle between both of them was noticeable. If Heizou could manage bringing Houndour back, a special move might just be used to get things moving. If not, a different tactic would just have to come in play. The winning and losing system had been long gone from his mind, too, since apparently there were few choices that he was available to.

The seconds elapsed.

and Heizou… Remained silent.

?!?!?!?

He hadn’t called for another move nor, to Esther’s eyes, had he signaled to Noivern in any way.

Was he…giving her a free turn?

Why?

A trap?

Obviously!

But where?

Esther couldn’t puzzle it out, but something strange was afoot. She would sooner believe she'd missed whatever secret signal passed between man and mon than assume Heizou had simply done nothing. Thus, convinced that Heizou had indeed done something, even if she couldn't see it, Esther was determined to ruin it!

Denying your opponent, whatever they were doing, was always a good idea and since Esther couldn’t predict Heizou’s next move, denying his current move was her next best bet.

Fortunately, Halay had just the move—
”Now Halay, use Taunt!
Since mired by confusion it was once again a gamble whether Houndour could heed Esther’s words. However, the water appeared to still as Halay’s steps steadied. By the look of things, confusion was finally wearing off!

Altair crossed his arms and looked at G quietly, even taking his eyes off the battlefield for a moment, a bad habit unworthy of experienced trainers, but he was willing to make this exception. Not out of underestimating his opponent, but rather, he wanted to see how the girl changed since their first meetings.

"Hmph." Using disable to remove an annoying move was a good strategy, but it wasn't that useful when her Pokemon was already paralyzed. Altair knew that he had a method to disable the disable (ha), but he opted not to. The contest point system wasn't that kind to his tactical decision though, as his points dwindled (Altair didn't notice).

"Did you just call me uncool." Altair lowered his eyes and sighed. "Psi, swagger!" Despite thunder wave being disabled, there were still other tricks up Altair's sleeve. Truth be told, G was right to an extent, he was pretty uncool, he had no idea about style or aesthetics. But what he did know about, was bursting other people's bubble. If he didn't know how to be cool, he'd just bring everyone else down to his level. Klefki spun around and moved tauntingly at the Golduck, confusing the Pokemon who was launching a water pulse. Probably one of those routines that G practices sometimes.

"Light screen, and spin through that water." He commanded as Klefki coated itself in a psionic light that protected it from the attack and began to spin like a top, trying to wrap any liquids around so it can dispel it alongside the light barrier.

What a mix of chosen moves Esther had chosen for Houndour! Heizou feared that the rest might just end up just boosting some defense and attack on the Pokémon at this point. But, Taunt had a downside currently. It wasn't like he wanted Noivern to use Dragon Dance, but it'd be a well fitting option since the enemy had already increased chances. He let Esther slide another move for defenses, since she was increasing her chances of winning with or without it. But it also limited to what else she could use.

Was it not already out in the open for what he wanted? Or was his opponent just doing it for the sake of worries? Whatever it was, he had nothing to complain about. Heizou's Pokémon had already gathered the correct distance, so calling out over water was no hassle. "Swerve behind and use Acrobatics." What a common move for a Noivern, but he didn't mind. He left out the words 'to flip Houndour in the air.' It depended on how the other 'mon got hit anyway. Yet being airborne gave the opportunity for another healthy attack.

The bat's large ears had only twitched a bit, form going green like how Dragon Claws had appeared before. The mon had flitted to the sides, as if wanting to increase more speed, before charging back at Houndour in full flight. If Heizou failed this again, he'd just want Noivern to bite that utterly small tail of Houndour's. Suppose his thoughts could get a bit less innocent, but who could blame a guy who watched interactions only come from a screen?

Esther R. Sophys

August 11th, ~9:45 A.M.

Esther’s eyes flickered from the battlefield; a swift glanced upward to capture the holographic screen that dominated the skies. Many battles and matchups were summarized there-in, but the Oblivian only had eyes for the square occupied by herself and Heizou.

It didn’t look good. Five turns of confusion were nothing short of a death-sentence in a format where the bulk of your assessment was geared towards grace and poise. The judges had been nothing short of merciless and their rulings left Esther with but a sliver of points remaining—another slip, another mistake, and it wouldn’t matter if Halay could withstand it because the judges would eliminate them either way.

The only way she could win this was to direct a perfect battle from here-on out. That…would be a despairingly difficult task. Although Halay’s confusion had ended and she had retained the stat-boosts from Nasty Plot, it was difficult to say if another Snarl or two would be enough to fell Heizou’s Noivern.

Try as she might, Esther’s couldn’t devise a path to victory. She hadn’t the time to set-up another of her tricks nor the room for error. In a contest a failed play was just as bad, if not worse, than taking a hit. This was it…back against the wall, Esther conceded there was no chance she would win this.

But that didn’t mean she’d given up. Ha! No, no, no—that only meant her plans was now to ensure they both LOST! Heizou had finally pressed the assault. He was a bit later than she’d liked, but ‘better late than never’. Esther reached out, her own aura brushing against Halay’s as trainer and Pokémon synchronized.

Within the Dark Pokémon, Esther felt white-hot fury. For five turns Noivern’s supersonic waves had confounded her faculties, thwarted her recoveries, and made manifest her indignities. This was an insult she would not soon forgive.

Esther wet her lips. They had one chance: a moment to flip this battle on its head and snatch opportunity amidst defeat. It would be the moment Noivern drew close—not just close, but right on top of them. The moment Acrobatics collided with Halay and brought Noivern close to…the water! Unlike Susu, Halay had no way to topple the dragon into the seas. But that wasn’t the plan. The plan was—
“NOW, Thunder Fang!”

The battlefield lit up! A blinding light as lightning danced across the ocean and Noivern executed its maneuver.

Electrocution. That was the plan: plain and simple.

In the best-case scenario, the surge of electricity would fell both Noivern and Halay and in the worst case, well—in any other case, Esther lost. So, did it really matter?

"Hmm." Psychic type moves were pretty handy, their telekinetic powers could achieve a lot, especially in the context of a contest show. Altair quietly thought as he watched G's gesture towards the sky, it began to come together slightly, the type of plan she was hatching. But the ironic thing was that the confusion from Klefki's previous move seems to have halted the usage of the move confusion. A bit of a confusing ordeal all the way through. Altair wondered if this was entertaining, it seemed more frustrating than anything else.

Confusion was a psychic type move, and those were usually pretty strong, even when used by a beginner. Psychic powers were a flexible tool. "Let's give'em the classic, Psi." Altair crossed his arms and looked onto the battlefield. Klefki, meanwhile, began to coat itself in a deep blackish purple energy, and extended its tendrils as it floated towards the Golduck. The dark type move Foul Play.

"Grab it." Altair ordered as the Klefki to latch onto the opposing Golduck. The keyring, now coated in the dark type move, circled its metallic tendrils around the blue duck Pokemon's neck and one of its arms. Not only is the attack boost from swagger causing the move to become stronger, it was likely harder for Pokemon to use psychic type moves effectively when being latched onto by a physical dark type move like that. Altair looked at the battle and tilted his head with a slight frown. "Maybe that's a little too much..." He wondered out loud, do contest audiences enjoy this type of thing? Maybe he should switch back to the sparkly barrier and special attacks soon.

The next few seconds came in a blur again. A flash of blinding light, from whatever Esther had screamed out, was now traveling through the water with a crackling effect. Noivern had went head first, and the combustion noise paused before coming out and ringing before everyone's ears. There was a wisp left over that clouded over the area, too. Heizou didn't ever shed a single blink while watching, since this might've just ended it all.

End? No way. Acrobatics wasn't the thing Heizou wanted Noivern to do last, yet his opponent had chosen to let the following happen. Losing was what was probably going to happen to him in the current situation. The surge of excitement now was turning frail, more like a desperate plea. Even the audience, for whoever was watching, held their breaths in tightly and awaited the slightest twitch of movement.

The rest of the coverage dispersed, similarly to how the Smog went away. At first was two Pokemon settled in water. If both Noivern and Houndour was downed, what was to happen next? But floating in the water was impossible for a bat heavy as that. Yet here Heizou's partner was, afloat! Hm, but that definitely wasn't the case. Houndour's eyes were cast away, whereas Heizou's Noivern had dared to move.

The last testament was whether it was going to flop back down. In it's own drowsy state, maybe it would, wouldn't it? Hope wouldn't get Heizou this far, he'd just have to tell Iris something she probably didn't want to hear so early in the games yet. Noivern's wing flapped, and before he could understand it, jarring cries filled...his ears? Win. Won. He won.

A smile hadn't quite cracked his face just yet. The idea was a bit too much like a dream than anything else. When light filtered and sparked through his eyes, he practically became the sun with his beaming face, though. No bad news was coming to his friend just yet alright. But now it meant Esther would have one last chance, no second 'life' to this. It was like one of those...video games. Where you get two hearts, and if you lose both, you're a goner. Was a contest really playing out like that right now?

(Ending Roll sent to opponent.)

Esther R. Sophys

August 11th, ~9:45 A.M.

The wind whisked it all away: the chitter-chirp of a dying current; the odious odor wet fur, thunder-singed and steeped in sea-salt; the bated breath Esther had held as her gamble fell through.

“Ah…”
The Contest-buzzer rang and the announcer declared Heizou’s victory; but Esther could hardly hear it over the deafening realization—this was it, this was how this cookie crumbled. She’d lost. Just like the Unova Junior Cup. She’d planned, she’d prepped, she’d brought her best and still got blown out in the first round.

Esther couldn’t help herself, she took a deep breath and—
SIGH!

As they said in Kalos: c’est la vie—that’s life. It was the nature of gambles to fail and likewise struggle was the lifeblood of achievement. More than herself, Esther was concerned about Halay-Alae. Although nominally Esther’s greatest battler, the Houndour’s track record had been…less than stellar. Even as aloof as she was, repeated setbacks would get under anyone’s skin. Doubly so since the rest of Esther’s team had been watching from the sidelines.

I’ll have to check team morale before the next match.

Esther recalled Halay in a flash of red, bringing the Dark Pokémon’s pokéball to her lips for a quick peck.

“Great work girl, but we’re not out of the running yet. After we get you a quick check-up, we’ll talk with the rest of the team.”

After a quick glance towards the other battlefields, Esther was certain she’d have a few minutes before the next matches were called. That was definitely enough time to touch bases with her Pokémon.

Her plans made; Esther strode off the battlefield. Of course, she wouldn’t forget Heizou. Before she left, she turned around to address her foe with a stuck-out tongue and pulled eyelid. Once she was certain she had his attention, she pointed towards the tournament brackets projected in the air. A clear message:
don’t get cocky, I’m coming after you in the finals!

With that Esther departed with a cheerful wave goodbye.

Golduck sturggled as Psi grabbed on to him. The the damage from the foul play and his own confusion from earlier was taking a toll on him. He stumbled backwards a bit, trying to keep his balance up.

"Banana! You can do it, try once more, Confusion!" G called out, watching the points for her team dropping quickly.

The blue duck looked up, the Water Pulse was quickly falling now. He tried to use his psychic attack, but the electrical current through his body kept him still. Banana led out a groan as the Water Pulse impacted him straight into his face. His knews shook while he tried to shake of the damage, but eventually fell down, unconcious.

G sighed and gave Altair a mean look while she heard the judges announce the winner. "That was the most boring battle in Pokemon contest history." She said while returning Banana to his Poke Ball and walking away from the battle field.

G hung her head low. The realization that her battle skills were still super low compared to a veteran, crept up her spine as she walked back towards where the other contestants were gathered.

"Ah, ****. I'm so dead." Instead of the joy of victory, a sense of despair crept up Altair's body, chilling him despite the warm Alolan sunshine. Her fans are gonna kill me!! That was the only thing left racing through his mind as he watched G walk off the stage toward the other coordinators. G said not to go easy on her, and, to an extent, Altair obliged, but the result ultimately seemed...less than satisfactory in all regards.

He waved for the Klefki to follow as he also rushed off of the stage, trying to follow after G. "Hey, uh, I mean...better luck next time? Literally." Altair laughed awkwardly while catching up to the girl, gently patting her on the shoulder, but he wasn't sure if he was helping the situation at all. His Rotom phone popped up and there seems to be a slew of notifications on it, Altair took one glance at the screen and grabbed the phone while it was still hovering in midair, and yanked out the SIM card unceremoniously. I think someone just doxxed me. He glanced at the phone quietly as the notion of faking his death, changing his name, and moving to some unknown region far away flashed in his head for a split second.

"But, look. You did fine, for real. You changed a lot since Snowpoint." After a few more moments of silence, Altair finally managed to compose himself enough to begin speaking more coherently. "I didn't get my first Pokemon to evolve until months after I started. I'm sure you'll make it someday." He added softly.

G sighed after a while and leaned her head against Altair's shoulder. "I know. I'm just... upset at myself." She stood up straight and sighed. "Your strategy was so simple and I was completely unprepared and defenseless against it. I focused so much on the show and offense that my defense got destroyed by two simple moves." G removed the small top hat from her head. "I'm going to go drown my disappointment in some Soda Pops. Maybe the sugar can boost my mood for the loser's bracket. You need anything?" She cracked a smile.

Despite her loss, the streamer wasn't going to just end things. Besides, epic comebacks are more memorable than an undefeated run. She headed towards the small bar at the event. She could already feel people taking pictures of her. She took out her Rotomphone and updated her status online:

-Couldn't beat my mentor today, but one day we'll have our revenge! Epic comeback in the making!-

Water Pulse couldn't have gone much worse. Laurie grimaced as they watched Drizzile stagger in his confusion. They felt a little dizzy themselves, trying to keep up with the four Suitas whirling and twirling in the air at speed. With four Psybeams coming at them, there wasn't a lot they could do other than be glad that some of the damage would be negated.

Drizzile tumbled backwards as the beams made contact, but was back on his feet soon after with a renewed look of intensity. Maybe that hit had been what he needed to break free from his confused state! He unleashed his long tongue and pirouetted, swinging it around with as much majesty a tongue could have. The clone Suitas were finally poofed away.

"Nice one! Now let's show them our version! Use Double Team and follow it up with a Water Gun!"

More Drizzile materialised. The group sprang about like a team of acrobats before shooting pressured jets of water from their mouths. While only one of them was real, the streams gave the impression of intersecting and forming a spiral shape as they rushed towards Suita.

Heizou Synopolis
Trainer 101!

The first was always easiest for the winner. Those words were something that were running inside his head continuously. Heizou didn't want to lower his luck or anything for the next battle by thinking of negative things, yet the saying was true than not. But, there was a sense of glory for the next. He didn't get a strike, so his chances have 'exceeded the limit.' Though, he knew better than to get too happy. There were still some possibilities for his next opponent to best him with sly skills. He hadn't gotten a single clue of what other Pokémon there was to go against.

When the buzzer went off, he had saw a slight glance off of Esther's expression. A bit deflated, maybe? Well, for him, he kinda also wanted to dig his grave for his anxiety reasons. The sound the girl let out was nearly loud enough for him to get his ears pricked. If he were in her shoes, he'd actually have expected it. But every trainer had some downside when experiencing things first hands instead of just imagining it all.

When Esther had made more of a movement, he had gave a lazy expression. She was being childish, but Heizou didn't brush off the sign so lightly. He let his Poke-Ball make sure Noivern was returned, the burgundy boy tapping it lightly as if to say good work. His own stand on the battlefield wasn't long, since he was heading back to where he came from for a calming break.
