NUATSIKI TENKIWARA
August 11, Morning Time — Seafolk Village, Poni Island, Alola
Aetherial winds that carried sweet smells, psychic light shows, and inSANE Hydro-Pump-fueled displays of surfing had all been served to an audience who ate it up like a Snorlax on his eight hundredth daily berry. They must have been particularly sweet, no, delectable berries, too, because the people in the stands spit back round after round of their compliments to the chefs in the form of thunderous applause.
The appeals so far might've sated the audience's appetite, but all they did for Nua was make her hungrier. Even just standing outside the thatched-hut,
The THUMP-THUMP-THUMP! of her heartbeat quickening, the electricity racing across her skin like an Emolga was ZIP-ZAPPING! between each pore, and her breaths shortening like Alola's summer breeze was stealing her air away — the word for it was anticipation.
Anticipation to be front and center, to win, to outperform a bunch of losers...she was getting PUMP! PUMP! PUMPED!
Tiny fingers tugged at her white-and-green swim skirt, and two white arms stretched up from her side — her little buddy.
"D'you want uppies?" Nua grinned down at her Ral— no, her Kirlia. He'd only evolved a few days prior while they were practicing for the contest, and she was still getting used to her little buddy being not so little anymore. "Alright, c'mere Suita."
The Kirlia just looked up at her with his typical 'head empty' stare and his hands outstretched, and Nua hooked her's under his arms and pulled him up. "What a mama's boy you are."
She glanced back at the "stage" — ice SHATTERED! and glimmering crystals cascaded onto the snow. It was a little pretty, maybe, but they were ready to top it.
Back in his ball went the Kirlia, and Nua hastily preened herself as her heart picked back up with its THUMP-THUMP-THUMPING!
The spotlight was only a few feet, a few seconds, and a few moves away. It was time to seize it!
Nua had experienced it time and time again, but as she stepped out onto the stage area's soft sand she felt like there was no better feeling than having eyes on her. Well, maybe there was something better. It wasn't time for that though, it was time to start! She TOSSED! Suita's Poké Ball with a flourish, and when it popped open a light-pink cloud POOFED! into existence courtesy of a couple capsules.
Suita would be well hidden for a few seconds, and that was all they needed to prep their space. The cloud seemed to flood out from the bottom, bathing the sand in a layer of pink mist that Nua always thought seemed to sparkle if you squinted at it — Misty Terrain.
The cloud dissipated, revealing the Kirlia slowly twirling around in the Misty Terrain's center. He wobbled a couple of times, but he was basically freshly evolved. Nua was just proud that he was doing so well!
"Start the choir, Suita! <<Disarming Voice>> and <<Double Team>>!" She called out, watching with gleaming eyes as her little buddy nodded. The Kirlia didn't miss a beat — he sang a soft melody using, something simple that they'd come up with a few days prior, and the mist on either side of him rose up and coalesced into two perfect Kirlia-clones.
They spun and sang in perfect harmony, and another pair rose from the smoke to make their choir a quintet. Disarming Voice's soundwaves hummed with a faint pink light, and they spiraled up into the air in beautiful faint wisps. Nua let them do their thing for a few seconds, never taking her eyes off of Suita-prime in the center, until she called out, "Pick it up! <<Psybeam>>!"
The clones continued their simple twirling and simple singing, but Suita spun faster. He picked one leg up and outstretched a hand, pirouetting faster and faster with each rotation until he switched legs and gathered psychic energy between his little hands. The Psybeam SHOT! up into the air, mixing with the clones' Disarming Voice to make a bright-pink light show, and Nua watched with a grin.
Time for the finisher! "Close it out!"
Suita cut off his beam, and the faint blue glow in his eyes was replaced with white.
POOF! POOF!
The outer two clones BURST! back into pink mist that swirled around the remaining three.
POOF! POOF!
The other two clones poofed away, too, fully obscuring the still-twirling Kirlia in the center.
Nua smiled — this part knocked her mom's socks off on their video call!
Misty Terrain's glow faded, and the swirling fog dissipated to reveal...nothing. It was like the twirling Kirlia disappeared into thin air right along with his Double Team clones, but in reality he'd Teleported right into his trainer's arms. Nua looked down at her little buddy, and he looked up at her with his cutesy head-empty stare. "We're not done yet."
Suita's sudden exit didn't get quite the reaction she'd been expecting, so Nua resorted to plan B. She took a few steps forward with Suita in her arms, set the Kirlia down, and with his little hand in her's they took a bow.
Now it was time for the best feeling in the world. The audience caught on to the fact their performance was finished, and a thunderous chorus of cheers and applause rang out. Talk about music to her ears!
Nua couldn't keep herself from grinning wide as she and Suita waved and turned to head back to the thatch hut, and could only barely contain the urge to skip the whole way. The girl scooped her little buddy into her hands and SPUN! him around. "That was great, Suita! They loved you!"
The Kirlia didn't react much, but he did keep hold of her hand when she set him down. She looked around and noticed a group of the other contestants talking — must be the loser's bracket already divvying themselves up. Let's see...it was the klepto-Klefki dude, the surfer girl, and Mr. Cold. There were a lot of crazy hair colors around...Nua fluffed her own hair a bit. Should she get it colored?
There were a few other contestants milling about, too, but one stood out. Black-haired girl, white and blue dress...and were those blue underlights?! What was it with these people and dyed hair?!
Nua crossed the small room with Suita in-tow, and once she was a little closer to the girl she asked, "'Scuse me, is dyed hair like a...thing...with contests? It's like everyone has it here!"
