One Thousand Club
It was a beautiful early fall day in Miami- of course, that could pass for summer in many other parts. The Pendragon Academy auditorium was decked out in the school colors of red and white, and the Headmistress had on a beautiful crimson dress to address the students. Her voice was a little soft- even the microphone couldn't quite carry it to the back.

"Welcome, everyone, to Pendragon Academy! Nothing like this has ever been tried before, so we're all learning this year." Catherine chuckled a little bit to calm her nerves. "Nevertheless, we do have a rule that might not have applied to your schools before- there is to be no magic use without a teacher's supervision. We don't need any students turned into insects or burning the place down. Apart from that, you all know the drill- be respectful, no fighting, yada yada yada. Today is a free day, and classes start tomorrow. Let's all have a wonderful year!"

Persephone had coiled up in the front row, watching the Headmistress' speech. She hadn't been around humans very much, so this was a new experience. She smiled as the students were let loose from the assembly. Time to make some new friends. One of her hair-snakes started to hiss at a boy near her- it had always been a little more anti-social than the others. "Knock it off, Kaa. You need to be nice this year."

Fleet sat facing all the students of the new school. She didn’t much listen to the Head Mistress’ speech. She did, however, feel a pang in her heart. Humans and creatures that hid away altogether in an auditorium, in that moment, it appeared so natural…so normal. Oh, how this thrilled her! Fleet wasn’t much apart of the world, but it was because of who she was that her past was made.

And now, Fleet was here. It was an immaculate honor.

She folded her arms, crossed her legs and gazed at the Head Mistress as she came to the end of her speech. Did Catherine realize just how much she has impacted the world? Not only were the students fairly comfortable with each other, but also, they were indulging in the presence of their new classmates. An entire generation was going to grow in a beautiful way of life. Fleet, though she knew she was being quite cocky, was surely proud. If there was any place she needed to be, it was here.

The speech came to an end and the students began to mingle. The buzz echoed off the auditorium walls, which simply made Fleet’s wings quiver with more excitement.

What a wonderful day…

Bianca stared past the headmistress on the podium. She was announcing something about a free day, but Bianca didn't really care. She was more interested in the giant sleeping wolf behind the woman. The beast went almost up to the headmistresses' waist, and was snoring soundly. It was almost as loud as the headmistress itself, but Bianca knew that no one else could see it. Only her. Her mouth opened slightly as she studied it, creasing her eyebrows. In the chair next to her, a neckless cat laid down and purred. Bianca idly scratched it's ears, feeling it's tail flick against her side.

When she tuned back into the real world, her cat faded into a vague shape and the wolf disappeared completely. All that was left was the headmistress finishing up her speech. Bianca closed her eyes and listened, attempting to ignore the other students around her.

Asteraceae

‘Perhaps Madame Obb was right!’ A rather small girl thought to herself while twirling her purple-ish hair, listening intently to the head mistress’ speech. ‘...It’s not ever day you get to be part of history dearie...’ Those words, spoken by the girls mentor and mother figure, never rang more true then in this moment. Asteraceae Djinn knew that she was part of history in the making.

It didn’t take long for the overwhelming sentiment of positiveit to flow from into slight anger and confusion.
“WHAT!! They’re not letting us use our magic! Ha, and I thought this place was gonna be cool.” Aster grumbled out loud. She couldn’t believe her ears. No magic or powers unless you had a teacher to babysit you. As a being that uses magic for just about everything she could, the Genie just couldn’t stan for it.
“Well, it’s only breaking the rules if you get caught!” She said under her breath, her eyes flashing a brilliant green for just a split second.

After a few seconds Aster’s rage had calmed down to slight frustration. She crossed her arms and scanned the room, picking out any non fantastical students she could.
“Oh Wow..” she squinted, it was a genuine surprise to her that so many of the students, seemed to be, your standard run-O-the-mill human beings. Satisfied with her survey of the room Aster’s eyes flashed green again, before returning to their normal purple hue.

‘oh joy!’ Asteracea’s mind went aflutter with thoughts of who she might be able to run across when The headmistress announced that today was a free day. So many new people to meet, so many pranks to pull, but so so little time. Aster smiled at the idea of it all, before taking note of the person sitting in the row just a head of her seat.

Aster slightly tilted her head, noticing that the girl sitting in front of her seemed to be playing with thin air. Aster figures that it was possibly some sort of air magic of some sort, but you never really know with the supernatural. Despite the girl seemingly wanting to be left alone Aster’s curiosity was in high gear, so she tapped her on the shoulder.
“Hey! I’m Aster! This whole thing is pretty nuts, right?!?”
She gleefully exclaimed with a large friendly smile, or at least as friendly of a smile the genie could muster.

If she could leave from the public eye right now, Bianca supposed it would be an easy day for her. Just as she decided where she was going to go off to hide, Bianca turned around to a tap on her shoulder. Her dark green hair flowed as she turned her head, looking like a silky dress. She opened her eyes, coming face to face with a young girl with white hair and deep purple eyes. She pulled a half smile, taking it her features. A hoodie, a tank top, a skirt. The girl seemed to be a very colorful... person? Bianca wasn't quite sure what she was. She had never met a human, living or not, with purple eyes. It made her wonder...

Just as she started thinking, the girl's form flickered, if only for a second. Bianca knew exactly what that meant. She was a spirit of some sorts. But with a corporeal form? Bianca racked her brain looking for an answer.

And then she realized she was staring. The girl had asked a question, but Bianca hadn't really caught it. "Nuts?" she said slowly, hoping to catch on. "Yes. I suppose." She assumed that the girl-spirit was talking about the school. In a sad attempt to keep the conversation, Bianca asked, "I'm sorry. What exactly are you?" The question came off more harsh than she meant it, but Bianca had a tendency to do things like that. She couldn't help it. The spirits she always talked to didn't seem to mind what she said, so long as they had a living connection to the outside world. People were so much... different.

Asteraceae

Aster smiled at her new found acquaintance, obviously trying her to put her best foot forward. She didn’t mind that the girl took a moment to respond to her question, after all Aster figures the girl might be napping, like so many students near by.

Asteraceae’s face flashed with a slight look of confusion, as she was slightly taken back by her question. In general most people knew exactly what she was when they first met the genie, although she figured since she didn’t pop out of her shiny metal home that might make it hard to identify her origins.

“Well, it’d probably be a bit easier to show you!” Aster winked as she raised her index finger to her nose, lightly tapping on it twice. As she did so her eyes turned green just before her body morphed into a light purple cloud of smoke. The cloud travelled under the row of seats infront of where Asteraceae had been sitting, flowing into and slowly filling the empty seat next to the green haired girl. The Smokey cloud formed into a vaguely humanoid shape before resolidifing into Aster’s recognizable form. As the genie shifted in the chair her eyes slowly faded from a shining green back to there usual purple hue. She had hoped that the amount of people would hide her small use of magic from the authorities, although she could her a few murmurs about her little trick from the students near by.

Aster shifted her body around, reaching for a bag on her back. After a few moments of rummaging she pulled out a slightly faded and worn golden object.

“This here is my...my..umm...Well I’m sure you can guess what it is.” Aster stated, holding the antique in her lap. “Sooo what makes you, well, you!” She beamed.

Bianca watched as the girl turned from human to smoke, then back to human again. She sat down in a chair next to Bianca, and Bianca watched as her cat hissed at the figure. It jumped out of the seat at the last second, preventing the genie from sitting on it. Not like she would've noticed anyways. Bianca almost made a motion to pick her cat up, but then realized what it might look like to the other girl. She also noticed that she was staring at the floor, seemingly unamused at the trick the genie just displayed. She slowly shifted her attention back to the genie, shooing her cat away.

"That makes more sense. A genie. Spirit and yet... not." Bianca said, putting two and two together. "Me?" Bianca paused. She wasn't sure how she could explain it. "I can see... dead people? And summon them to do my bidding." Bianca supposed that was the shortest answer she could give. As a display of her power, she summoned her cat back over. The cat jumped into her lap and started purring loudly. Bianca tapped it on it's head, and the cat shone brightly before appearing into the genie's view.

Asteraceae

Aster wis noticeably disappointed that her display hadn’t seemed to have much of an impact on her new seat neighbor, but the whispers and chatter of those around them was more then enough for her to be satisfied.

“Dead people? Not like zombies or anything, right?” Aster asked, shifting abit in her seat. She didn’t expect that any necromancers could make it into Pendragon, not fully understanding what the girl had meant.

Before she could make any more insensitive comments a light shown brightly in the girls lap as a feline of some sort seemed to materialize there.

Asteraceae’s mouth hung slightly open for a very brief second, not necromancy, but something far more interesting.

“Oh. My. Gosh. It’s adorable!” The genie cood. “In all my years I don’t think I’ve seen anything quite like it, or as cute!” Aster smile at both the girl and the cat spirit.

“Oh!!” Aster exclaimed “I forgot to ask your name, silly me, forgetting basic social interactions.” She chuckled

Bianca let out a small smile and continued to pet the cat. It was the most emotion she had shown all morning. "Not zombies, no. Spirits are more like... the idea of someone. What they once were. I can communicate and allow them into the physical world. Temporarily." As if on cue, the cat disappeared from the genie's sight with another flash of light. Bianca, however, could still see it as it slinked away. She looked back at the genie, her attention 100% on her. For the first time in a while, she was speaking to a real person. And they weren't scared of her! The thought almost excited Bianca. Almost.

"I'm Bianca. Bianca Adder. You are...?"

Asteraceae

“Oh, wow. That’s definitely better then zombies.” Aster let out a chuckle. It had been a while since she had an actual conversation with another living being, other then Madame Obb of course. She was thrilled that her first day at this new and very interesting, yet scary, place was off to such a positive start.

As the feline disappeared the genie’s face slightly shifted from gleeful to sad, but just for the briefest of moments. She hated to see such a cute thing go, but Aster definitely understood the limitations of any form of supernatural power.

“Bianca, has a nice sound to it. It’s a pleasure to meet such a friendly face! Asteraceae Djinn is the name, but you can call me Aster, all of my friends do.” She paused for a moment, remembering the lack of others she truly considered friends. It was a welcome change of pace to be able to start forging such relationships.

Aster smiled warmly at Bianca, enjoying the pairs conversation thus far. “Do you think that they’ll show us around the school? I could go for a bit of an adventure, could be lots of fun!”

"Friendly would be an overstatement. You're lucky I'm in a good mood, Aster." Bianca chuckled to herself. A joke? Pretty much unheard of from Bianca. And yet, one just came out of her mouth. What strange circumstances. The genie seemed to be a good influence for her. Her mom and dad would be proud.

"A tour sounds nice. Though I don't think the headmistress had anything planned for the day." Bianca paused and looked back to the podium where the Headmistress had stood a couple minutes before. Her gaze shifted, and she looked into the spirit world. The large wolf was still behind the podium. Bianca snapped her attention back to the physical world and focused on Aster. "Follow me." She said, and stood up with ease. Her dark hair flowed in wisps around her head, and her dress seemed to whisper in the same way. The way she moved seemed almost ghost-like, a feature taken from her many dead companions. She motioned for Aster to follow her behind the podium.

Asteraceae

Aster raised an eyebrow at Bianca’s statement. Her tone was light and happy, but the genie couldn’t help but notice the slightly ominous word choice, but Bianca seemed to be a nice girl Aster shrugged it off.

“Right behind you girl!” Asteraceae cheered as Bianca beckoned her to follow. Aster was a sucker for a bit of fun, almost always seeking excitement. Taking in her surroundings, As she stood from her seat, Aster noticed that other students had begun to mill about and mingle amongst one another.

The genie also couldn’t help but notice the almost ethereal way Bianca moved as she followed behind her up to the podium. The girls movements almost reminded the purple haired girl of herself, at least how she would carry herself many many years ago.
“ Where to? You wouldn’t happen to have some cool stuff for show and tell?” She giggled as they neared the podium.

Gilmore sat in a chair on the very edge of a row near the back of the assembly, yet somehow the headmistress' speech was as clear as if she were standing right in front of him. Some form of magic, he wagered.

Speaking of magic, it seemed rather strange to go to a school where magic wasn't used outside of supervised moments, but he actually welcomed the idea. No more people prodding him and trying to convince him to make flashy displays or try to fight. His magic wasn't really suited to any of that anyhow. It was a bit disappointing he wouldn't be able to sit leisurely and grow plants, but the trade off seemed worthwhile for the time being.

He closed his eyes, listening to everything that was going on around him. It was sort of peaceful here. The sound of his peers talking to one another was like the buzzing of insects in the night. The warmth of the auditorium's lights, the feeling of subtle magical energy. It was easy to feel close to nature here, even inside.

Bianca decided she couldn't reveal the wolf to the entire auditorium, so she just needed Aster to see it. She crouched down below the sleeping beast and extended her had for Aster to take. With her other hand, she put a finger over her lips. A gesture Aster would soon understand. Bianca knew that once Aster took her hand, she would be able to see what Bianca sees everyday of her life. The spirit world. It would only in their contact, however. If Aster let go, Bianca couldn't help her see any longer.

Persephone turned to see a small girl flying near her. Ah, a fairy. She'd met a few back in the old country, though they weren't exactly common there. "Hello, glad to meet you. I'm Persephone, it's a pleasure to see you. Heck, it's a pleasure just to be here- I never thought I'd be in a school with humans. And don't mind Kaa- he's a bit of a jerk, but the rest of my snakes are a lot friendlier."

Dexeria's relaxed at the girl's kind demeanor, her previous fear mostly quelled. But her wings still tensed up by the close proximity of all the snakes, they were still snakes after all one snap from them and she was toast. "Good, snakes are utterly horrific!" She announced cringing in disgust as she watched the snakes move around the girl.

Dexeria had now lost all interest in Persephone, people were boring no point in communicating with them, but she did remember why she was sent here to make "friends" and meet other creatures. Maybe some humans as well. "I'm Dexeria Faibrine... but you can call me Dex or whatever" She introduced to the girl holding out a fragile fair-skinned hand for a handshake, while her other hand rested on her hip.

Aster tilted her head at Bianca’s gesture ‘does she want me to hold her hand, but we just met’ the genie giggled to her slelf at her thoughts. It was then that she noticed the girl’s finger placed upon her lips.
Now Aster understood, it was obvious that Bianca intended to show her something.

Being all for seeing and experiencing new things Aster quickly snatched up the girl’s hand, although she did mind not to be overly aggressive as she did so.

Her eyes widened and grip around Bianca’s hand tightened. “Oh my...” quietly squeezed passed her lips.”That’s sooo cool!” Aster whispered in amazement.

Bianca nodded slowly, and watched the wolf sleep. It's ears and paws twitched, as if it were dreaming. Crouching down, the wolf was as tall as Bianca. She couldn't imagine what it must have been like when it was alive. As she turned away from the wolf, she spotted another spirit in the hall. It was standing in the corner, watching the pair. Bianca squinted her eyes to try to see what exactly the spirit was. It's outline was hazy, and it didn't have any definite shape. But Bianca knew from the way it stood and the feeling in gut that the creature was watching them. It couldn't be a nice one, either. Bianca quickly pulled her hand away from the genie, taking her out of the spirit world. Then Bianca herself focused back in on the real world. The wolf and the mysterious figure both disappeared, making Bianca feel a little more secure.

"Sorry," She said, turning back to the genie, "I saw something that... wasn't supposed to be here. I didn't want anything to happen."

Asteraceae

Aster was completely astonished by what she had seen. A absolutely massive wolf, or at very least Wolf like being. It was truly impressive, even if it was a sleep. ‘do spirits sleep’ she pondered.

Before having the chance to ask Bianca any questions about what exactly she was seeing the wolf disappeared from Aster’s field of view. It was only then that she realized that Bianca had pulled her hand away. The genie let out a sad sigh just before her acquaintance could explain what had happened.
“Jeez, that sounds heavy. Maybe we Should get outa here?” Aster blinked, with a very innocent expression on her face.

From the back of the room, Will grinned as his gaze wandered across the crowd. He'd expected a great many things when he had stepped through Pendragon's doors, but the sheer amount of people surpassed all his hopes. It was an odd gathering, ranging from mundane humans to spirits, fairies, and the like. To most, the sheer variety might have been overwhelming, but Will found it exciting. To think that, until a few months ago, this was the stuff of myths and legends. His smile widened at the thought.

Breaking his gaze away, he noticed a young man sitting next to him, eyes closed. He looked rather peaceful and for a moment, Will was hesitant to disturb him. Eventually, however, his curiosity got the best of him, and he put his inhibitions aside.

"This is all so exciting, don't you think?" He paused for a moment, before sticking out his hand. "I'm Will,"

Upon hearing an eager voice beside him, Gilmore opened his eyes, turning to meet the gaze of his seatmate.

"There is certainly an exciting element to a school of magic which isn't thrown about willy-nilly." He smiled serenely, reaching his hand out and clasping the one in front of him gently in his own. "That and the variety of students makes it very hard not to be interested. Studying in such a place seems like it'll be fun. I agree." he shook hands with the other male, pleased to have found someone who seemed of a similar mindset to himself. The young man seemed fairly normal. He wondered if perhaps this was another powered human like himself, or perhaps even a mundane human, one of which he hadn't met before.

"I'm Gilmore. It's a pleasure to meet you."

The students were getting along splendidly. Some were using their powers, but with many of the teachers present, it wasn't much of a problem, so long as they didn't do anything crazy. Now was the time to make friends and show talents, and what an interesting showcase it was.

Fleet stood from her seat and tapped her hoof a few times. Catherine was speaking with some students and teachers alike. Some students were filing out, the more people spoke, the tougher it was to hear each other. Thus, Fleet decided to head towards the exit and prepare for the first day of school

Bianca shook her head. "It can't hurt us unless it gains a physical form. Until then, it'll just be... creepy." Bianca shook her head and looked back to the corner, trying to erase the image from her mind. "You showed me your smoke form. Do you have anything else you can do?" Bianca asked with curiosity, tilting her head back to Aster. She knew genies could grant wishes and the like, but the girl had to be able to do more than that! To have magic and to not be able to use it out of your own free will would be so... confining. Bianca didn't like the thought of it.

Asteraceae

“That’s definitely reassuring, wouldn’t want some creepy thingy following you..I mean us around.” Aster smiled. She wasn’t particularly frightened or anything of the sort, just generally concerned with the well being of her new friend.

“What else can I do? Well I do enjoy cooking! I make a mean omelet.” She laughed at her own joke, knowing what Bianca had meant by her question. Aster thought for a moment, racking her brain. ‘oh the possibilities’ she thought. Of course the genie didn’t want to do anything with her magic that might be viewed as mischievous, first impression were everything after all. After a few seconds of thought Asteraceae knew just the trick to show off.

The girl flicked her nose with her finger, her eyes changing color, and snapped her fingers. With those small gestures, and a bit of thought, a purple mist surrounded her everything below her neck. Less then a second later the most cleared revealing that the genies outfit had completely changed. Instead of her usual attire Aster was now sporting a rather sporty T-shirt, with a small ghost like creature inked on the front and, what appeared to be leggings, that were doted with twinkling stars.
“What do you think, perfect for a bit of exploring!” Aster nodded her head matter-of-factly. She pointed towards a set of doors that lead into the rest of the school.
“Off we go! Hopefully we’ll find something pretty nifty!” She exclaimed.

"It won't follow us, don't worry." It was 100% going to follow them, but Bianca didn't want Aster to know that. Bianca didn't know what that thing was, but she knew it was bad news. Aster's omelet joke made Bianca crack a smile. Cooking sure was magical, though Bianca didn't enjoy food too much. When Aster changed outfits in the blink of an eye, Bianca raised an eyebrow. "Impressive. A wardrobe change" she joked, knowing full well that Aster had the capability to do much, much more. "Lead the way." Bianca said, gesturing towards the doors.
