It was a beautiful early fall day in Miami- of course, that could pass for summer in many other parts. The Pendragon Academy auditorium was decked out in the school colors of red and white, and the Headmistress had on a beautiful crimson dress to address the students. Her voice was a little soft- even the microphone couldn't quite carry it to the back.
"Welcome, everyone, to Pendragon Academy! Nothing like this has ever been tried before, so we're all learning this year." Catherine chuckled a little bit to calm her nerves. "Nevertheless, we do have a rule that might not have applied to your schools before- there is to be no magic use without a teacher's supervision. We don't need any students turned into insects or burning the place down. Apart from that, you all know the drill- be respectful, no fighting, yada yada yada. Today is a free day, and classes start tomorrow. Let's all have a wonderful year!"
Persephone had coiled up in the front row, watching the Headmistress' speech. She hadn't been around humans very much, so this was a new experience. She smiled as the students were let loose from the assembly. Time to make some new friends. One of her hair-snakes started to hiss at a boy near her- it had always been a little more anti-social than the others. "Knock it off, Kaa. You need to be nice this year."
