Toast had never tasted so good. The woman crunched through her bread, swaying happily in the way only good food could cause. It might have been plain, but sometimes toast just hit the spot. With the glass of water now settling on her stomach, and the food and coffee waking up her senses, Andy was starting to feel down right normal. She was sure the pain killers she had taken had done some to help with that too.

A red eyebrow raised as Luca stormed in from his diligent post on the porch, like a whirlwind he seemed to suck all the breath out of the room before slamming her bedroom door. The girl rolled her eyes. It was all fun and games until he broke the hinges on her door and she made him fix it. The idea was laughable, she was likely better with power tools than he was. Somehow it was easier to see him with a gun in his hand than a drill.

When he came back in and yelled for everyone to join him, Andy pulled herself up to sit on the counter. The room was silent while they waited for everyone to join them, all aside from the ever present sound of Andy crunching away on her toast and jam. Luca’s attitude was not about to ruin a perfectly good breakfast.

She listened in mild amusement as he berated the group, bullying them. It was apparent to her that he didn’t care if he was liked, he was a person who had lead by fear his whole life. When his attention turned to her she met him with a raised eyebrow, still chowing down on her food.

“Grab your bow and whatever you need. We’re leaving soon.”

“Uh. Okay.” She said dumbly. Her mouth was still full of food as she spoke, complete with crumbs stuck to the corner of her mouth. It was almost certain that her response seemed like shock, it was reasonable to be surprised. Andy wasn’t a great combatant, and no one here knew how fast she was. However, Andy had full on expected Luca to call on her, she had been so convinced in fact that she already had her shoes on.

The woman slid off the counter, letting her boots hit the floor, the heel sounding quietly on the natural hardwood. It was then that Luca’s attention turned on Colt. Andy had planned to go ahead and grab her bag, but she was captivated by his conversation. It was like a car wreck, she couldn’t look away from it as he called Colt out and threatened her boyfriend to seal the deal.

Andy wasn’t bothered by the threat like others seemed to be. It wasn’t that she thought that Luca wasn’t capable, willing, and planning on carrying it out. Her mind went back to the first Hazmat soldier she had seen him fight. How he had punched him over and over until his fists were nothing but a gore covered mess. Luca could have executed him, he had the gun to do it but he had chosen to bludgeon that man to death with his fists. Andy knew full and well that Luca was dangerous.

But they needed dangerous. Who else was going to lead them? Keep them safe? Not Ivan or Colt who seemed so wrapped up in their own self pity that they weren't able to make the hard decisions. Definitely not her, or Leliana and not her doofus of a brother either. Luca was the best choice to keep them alive. He had already proven himself twice over in her book, she had made it out of two life or death situations totally unscathed and she had Luca to thank for that.

That's why she had gone out of her way to convince him to help her get Owen back. Not Colt, or anyone else. It hadn’t been hard to get his word once she had gotten him drinking. Some sad green eyes and a little reminiscing and he had agreed to help her just as she had intended.

Andy left Luca to finish bullying the lodge members to grab the duffel bag from her room. She had packed it the night before, confident that she would need it this morning. In it was her bow, extra arrows, hip quiver and a few extra things that were always useful. Her solar powered flashlight, some sturdy rope and a hunting knife were among them. The girl pulled the quiver from the bag and fastened it to her hips, she also pulled on her leather archery gloves before zipping the bag back up and exiting the bedroom. She got out in just enough time to see Luca slam the door behind him, with Leliana following behind him.

“I’ll be back later. No wild parties while I’m gone,” Andy said dryly to the group. The girl turned her attention to the Russian standing at the stove. She put on her most dazzling smile before walking over to him. It was jarring to see her face twisted in such a way, unusual

“Oh and Ivan sweetie Andy cooed, venomous sarcasm dripping from her every syllable. “Do me a favor and keep an eye on that mac and cheese while I'm gone.” The girl made a point to pretend to turn to leave before turning back, the smile gone. Her green eyes were hard, cold and piercing.

“And to clarify, when I say ‘keep an eye on it’, I don’t mean for you to leave it alone in a monster infested hell hole.” Her words snapped, clear and edged. When she turned, her ponytail snapped around with the motion, and she was out the door to join Luca.

[div class="Line"] [div class="Icon"] Actions[/div] Marcus was proud of himself for managing to carry the woman to her seat. She needed to learn to stop abusing her body, she wouldn’t be able to protect or save anyone. She was annoyed by his gesture at first but he soon noticed Colt realized that he was just trying to help but soon her gratitude was interrupted by a still tired looking Andy. She really wasn’t taking the whole Owen missing thing too well…well not missing, just gone to do other business, he seemed to really have something important to do so he couldn’t blame Colt really for not convincing Owen to stay. Colt put a hand on the man’s shoulder insisting they went to look for the red headed male. “Colt…I understand and I’m grateful you finally wanna take me with you…but Andy is and already has been worried. You will just worry more people if you try to go.” He explained. The woman attempted to get up and walk away looking back at him for what he would assume to be her waiting for him to join her but as soon as she got up she was escorted back into her chair by the asshole of all the survivors, Luca.

The man had a point getting upset with Colt but something felt like he was going a bit too far, but he guessed that’s just how Luca was, the man certainly looked as he acted. He had a feeling Colt would probably break down soon enough as she sat there taking it all in. Luca threatened to break his legs of Colt didn’t fix herself up…it was a really harsh way of trying to get someone to do something but did Colt actually care more about him that she would quickly stop her methods of getting through the battles of day to day life? He doubted it and he doubted he would let Luca even lay finger on him, he’d definitely shoot that mother fucker if he even tried anything. Hell, he’s been killing people the past 2 days so what was gonna stop him from killing another? Especially one that was apart of a mob, he was a bad guy right? So maybe he deserved to go. The nurse of the group Leli tried to reassure Marcus that Luca wouldn’t actually o anything but he could quickly tell by her expression that she didn’t even believe any part of what she was saying. “Uhhh…somehow I feel he would do it and he would force you to fix it. But I’m not letting him get close to me so not happening.” He said with confidence.

The white-haired man quickly gave his attention back to Colt who he could tell would be in shock and tried his best to reassure her. “Hey…Colt just eat your breakfast…some things he said were true but I don’t think the way he acted was very appropriate towards you. Everyone here cares about you Colt…if you are planning to be the marine you are then you need to be strong and realize that you can’t be strong by continuously harming your body with Alcohol. You are basically killing yourself in front of everyone…just any way, you need to keep yourself healthy and you need to think straight if any of us are gonna make it through this outbreak.” He explained but just as he finished Milly was beginning to have a breakdown of her own, it was understandable considering what she told him last night when he helped her into the lodge. She dropped what seemed to be her favorite stuffed animal and sighed picking up the stuffing-filled toy and making his way to the girl. She was rocking back and forth on the sofa of the living, he gently brought the bear to her and hoped that holding her close for a slight hug would help her. “Hey, Milly…it’s okay…I know umm Luca can be kinda scary but he means well I promise…” His words certainly weren’t helping as she continued to rock and cover her ears, he carefully moved her hands and placed the bear in them hoping it would calm her a bit. “Here…umm let’s see, maybe there is something we can do to keep your mind off of everything. You said you trust me, remember? So just trust that everything is okay…it’s in human nature for people to get upset, it’s natural and emotions are what makes us human…” He explained and got up for a moment looking around the living room for anything to distract the girl.

After a while of searching Marcus came across an old jigsaw puzzle he found on the cupboard. Maybe this could help, he remembered he used to do puzzles with his mother growing up from time to time and it calmed him enough to make him feel safe and at peace. He grabbed the box of puzzles and brought it over to Milly. “Hey, wanna solve this puzzle with me? It's hard for me to do them alone and I would appreciate the help of a smart girl like you Milly.” He gave her a sweet smile hoping that at least this idea would work. He dumped the puzzles on the table next to them and placed the box with the picture of Mickey and Minnie Mouse on it, he always used it as a reference when doing puzzles, it made it easier to organize the pieces in case he got confused on what exactly he was putting together.

Jonas took the scarf that hung around his neck and raised it to cover his nose as he looked down from the roof of an abandoned apartment building. He had definitely made use of the time he’d gotten, as limited as it was, to turn the building he resided in into as much as a fortress as he could make it. He’d blockaded both stairways with enough furniture to make any college student jealous, he’d laid out a small makeshift bridge between the building he was in and the one directly next to it with the back of a dresser he’d managed to somewhat quietly pull off. He’d basically locked himself away from the world of the dead, and he was slightly proud of himself. As he looked down at the street, he spotted a small group of infected shuffling through the street at a snail's pace or less even. Jonas sighed quietly at the sad bunch. He’d been observing them for the past day or so when he finally wised up and realized finding their weaknesses would be extremely helpful for when the two buildings he called his own ran out of supplies for he, himself, and he. He hadn’t been able to observe much since it had only been two days since this started and he had a lot of fortifying to do, but he was able to tell enough to know how to get away. He sighed again with a slight shiver as he sat down on the ledge of the rooftop, yawning quietly as he pulled a small MP3 shuffle he’d found in one of the other apartments from his pocket. As he plugged his old rugged headphones in and put one of them in his ear, he took in a deep breath and looked up, leaning on the back of his hands and yawning quietly. He didn’t particularly enjoy the music that boomed in his ears, but it was something else to listen to than the silence and groaning of the infected below him. He sat like this for an amount of time he didn’t exactly know before boredom overtook him. He stood slowly and carefully before stepping off the ledge and making his way towards the fire escape and going down towards the room he’d been staying in. He didn’t particularly care how loud he was to an extent, he knew there was nothing the infected could do about him without breaking down his barricades, and by then he'd be long gone. As he climbed in through the window, he stepped onto the shiny wooden floor of the fancy, overpriced living space and looked around before closing the window and pulling the scarf from his face with a short exhale.

“Winter hits too early here.”

The young student mumbled quietly as he stepped through the apartment, slipping off the boots he’d been wearing since he arrived in the States. They were the only momento he had of home since his parents wouldn’t let him bring anything else. His own behavior surprised him a bit, as he had no desire to break any rules, like there were any now, as any other ‘normal teenager’ would. He sighed again, something he knew he did too much, as he plopped onto the expensive leather couch and clicked on the TV, only to be met with empty static and the white noise that accompanied it. The boy gently tossed the remote onto the coffee table that was just as shiny as the floor, a satisfying sound coming from it as it simply landed and slid across the table. Boredom was hitting this boy hard, and he stood quickly and continued to explore the apartment. He found that in one of the rooms, which was probably supposed to be another bedroom, was turned into the beginnings of a small study. Books lined shelves that lined the bottoms of the walls, and Jonas walked along them sliding his finger along it. As dust collected he gave a low exhale before wiping it away and picking a random book from the shelf. He slinked from the study back to the main living area, clicking the TV off before slumping back on to the couch and blowing the dust from the cover of the book, flipping it open lazily and reading, something he typically enjoyed doing when he was alone, and let time pass by him.

Ivan walked had limped into the kitchen while the others were becoming acquainted and was surprised to be called by name by a man who introduced himself as Doctor Ralph Fisher before offering his hand for him to shake. Ivan quickly shook the hand that was offered, giving a firm grip and introducing himself in return. He was surprised someone that had just come in the night before already knew his name.

"Ivan Zamorozka. Pleasure to meet you Doctor."

He said quickly as he pulled his hand from the shake and cracked his neck quietly. He was prepared to start helping in any way he could while he was grounded before he could practically feel hatred crawling up his back. He turned quickly in time to hear Andy saying something about leaving the Mac and Cheese in a 'monster infested hellhole.' He was confused for a moment before a memory quickly rushed back to him, one where he promised Andy he'd keep an eye on Owen. A quick 'Shit!' shot through his mind as he realized he'd completely forgotten about the promise and neglected to tell her that Owen had stayed behind to find more stuff. He slapped his hand against his forehead before turning to apologize to the likely worried girl, but she'd already left with Luca, who had just went absolutely off on Colt, threatened to break Marcus' legs, and then threatened the life of one of the other people they'd taken in, one by the name of Brian by the sound of it. He started to limp out of the kitchen, avoiding the others that had begun to crowd in as he quickly limped after Andy. When he finally got to the front door, he swung it open and called out.

"Andy, wait. I'm really sorry about not telling you about Owen. You probably already know at this point, but he stayed behind to get more things."

At this point he was leaning against the door frame to take pressure off of his leg after virtually running to the door, and continued speaking,

"I imagine my apology doesn't mean shit to you at this point in time, but I'd rather say it now than regret not saying it."

He said as he took a deep breath in and looked at her. He fully expected for her to lash out or hit him, but that would just have to be what happened after making her worry about her brother like that.

Colt looked at Marcus as he expressed flattery but then said she should not go out looking for Owen. Colt’s eyebrows raised. What? Just last night he said he would go with her!
Everyone thinks it’s my fault and I prom-GACK!” The ex-marine gagged as she was suddenly and roughly thrown by her sore shoulder back onto the seat. Colt snarled out several curses but stopped as soon as she saw Luca looming over her, demanding everyone came into the kitchen. Colt was unsure as to what he said but what he said next to her caught her attention.

You pathetic swine.” He said that phrase with such anger that Colt felt as though she had been hit by a big rig. It exacerbated her migraine and made her wince. He sounded like a drill instructor. She could only stare in front of her as he continued his tirade, but she could hardly pay attention. It just brought back too much;

I gave you clear orders. If I die, you are supposed to be the person who is to stand up and take my place. If a grenade is thrown at your squad, do you run? NO! You jump on that grenade! Better to end your pathetic life than let everyone die! Tell me, Colt, how on God’s good green fuckin’ Earth are you going to take care of them when you need the frame of a door to keep yourself from falling over? What’s worse, Stanhope? Dying or living knowing you could have saved their lives!? Did you expect me to double MY load and take care of them while you’re wallowing in your pathetic fucking situation? Fucking man up! If you don’t, people will die! And it! Will be! Your fault! Do you want that?! Or did you fucking forget we’re all in it as well?

Colt shook violently, her eyes wide and unblinking while staring towards the wall but not at the wall. She struggled to keep her breath steady, she could not move. She could not even speak. Inside, she was screaming every curse word in the book, begging him to stop. It took her straight back. Back to places she wanted to forget. Remembering events she had desperately tried to drown. All the suppressed guilt and shame flooding right back as if it was never gone. People she could not save…
I can-I can’t do it! I can’t Collette- I wanna go home! I want to go home! I want my mom! I want our ranch, and ride our horses! I want my dogs, Sonny and Cher, where are they? I need them! Collette, where are they…?
Furious and distressed tears had welled up in her green eyes, but none fell. She wanted to scream, launch up and fire her pocket revolver right into his Easter Island face. She would have if she didn’t know that he would likely kill her first. He then threatened to break Marcus’ legs if she did not do as he said.
You will not be paying the price. He will be. I’m going to break his fucking legs. Do you understand me? Let’s see how much you TRULY GIVE A FUCK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE, COLT.
Collette, where are they…?

Colt stared at the table, her nails digging into the wood as she stared down, pale and shaking. He finally left. But Colt could not even answer back. She had so much she could have said but as she opened her mouth, nothing came out. After saying some words to Brian, Luca left. Colt wanted to shriek and lunge at him but still, nothing. So saving lives, bringing supplies and leading as he had told her to yesterday meant fuck all it seemed! What did she get? Bitching about Owen being missing which was his idea but fuck it! Let’s blame her! OF COURSE! OF FUCKING COURSE!

Somebody’s gonna have their legs broke. But it won’t be Marcus,” she snarled angrily, quiet enough so only a few would hear. At this time, her conscience was clear. If he tried that, she’d break his legs. And everything inside. All that would be left is a pile of mush, a smoking gun and an empty mag. And probably her own corpse next to it.

However, Colt’s seething internal hate only surfaced when the silence was broken by Leliana. Every word only nailed it in further that yes, everybody saw her as pathetic. First Luca, now this patronising bullshit, talking to her like she was younger than Milly about eating and when she then mentioned drinking, that was when Colt lost it. Who the fuck were these people?! They had known her for two days at most! What the fuck made them feel like they could do that!?

It’s not! A problem!” Colt snarled, glaring daggers at the girl, slamming her palm onto the table for punctuated emphasis, “I was stressed! I needed to clear my head! You don’t know me or what I’ve done! So don’t you DARE!? IT’S NOT A PROBLEM!” She took a moment to catch her breath. She was not shouting, but her tone could cut diamonds, “If you are so fucking concerned about people who drink, get THE OTHERS! Drag THEM in here! And scream at THEM in front of the whole fucking lodge about how pathetic they are!” She was, of course, referring to Andy, Luca and Ivan. Surely everyone noticed that they weren’t fucking saints themselves yet somehow they could get away with it! If they wouldn't die without her apparent leadership, she would have simply gathered her things and walked into the woods. Possibly off a cliff cause hey, she was just some pathetic drunk, right!?

Colt would have continued, but another voice piped up. She turned to Marcus. He seemed to take a different approach. It was blunt, and he agreed with Luca. But it also held a tone of some kind of understanding. But he then mentioned alcohol again. Colt inhaled sharply through her nose and looked at them all angrily. When did they all get fucking psychology degrees? But at this point, she felt completely defeated. She looked at Marcus, sighing a little as he mentioned how she was a marine. And Leliana had called her a soldier before.
Just. Don’t.” She sighed heavily with a lowered head, “Don’t call me a soldier. Or Marine. I’m neither. Please.” She sighed, accidentally letting her distressed tone slip. She took the crackers. But just as she was about to leave the kitchen, her shoulders tensed. She put the crackers down and turned to everyone. Despite her pounding headache, lack of balance and her probably slurred tone, she spoke up.

Right. You heard the ****. I’m in charge. So let me say right now. I am not tolerating any bullshit from anyone! So don’t fucking push me! Got it!?” She took out her pistol, feeling the barrel with one finger, “And if I hear ONE WORD about ANYTHING that happened in the kitchen just there!” She cocked the gun dangerously for emphasis. She was not in the mood for any more stupid and preachy lectures. She took her crackers and water and sat in the far corner of the living room in a chair, eating. Of course, they got to have pancakes and mac and cheese (for some Godforsaken reason) but she had crackers. But at this point, Colt simply did not care. She barely noticed Marcus and Milly playing with a jigsaw. She’d get started once she was done eating and the urge to kill the worst person in the lodge had gone away. As she sat down, she felt her prosthetic move as it must have loosened from the force at which she was moved. With a growl, she glared at it before hiding it under her cargo pants. She hated that god-damn titanium piece of shit so much. All she could hope was that, out of the trio, only two would come back. And that it was the siblings.

Milly jumped slightly as her teddy bear was put back in her arms. She looked up to see Marcus, which instantly helped her nerves settle a little. It seemed that he, Shiona, Ivan and Leliana were trustworthy. Everyone else was loud and scary. As he held her slightly, she looked up at him as he spoke. When he asked if she remembered that she said she trusted him, she nodded. She remembered. He then suggested looking for something to distract her and he then went off to search. As he did, Milly gathered up the blanket and wrapped herself up in it. It was the closest she was going to get to a hug from her mother.

As he then returned with a jigsaw, Milly cooed and scooted closer to the coffee table as he put it down. She really enjoyed puzzles. She remembered after she had finished her lessons for the day, she and her mum would race to see who finished a puzzle first. The girl saw that it was a Disney style jigsaw which made her eyes light up. As he dumped out all of the pieces, Milly joined him in putting it together. It was a decent size. She looked at him as he said that she was smart and he’d appreciate her help. Though, truthfully Milly did not know how to answer a statement like that.

…I love Mickey Mouse.” She said instead as she intensely worked on the jigsaw, “You’re smart too. Can’t do puzzles but can do other things.” She added, again, not looking up as she continued, the jigsaw taking up all of her focus, though she would still answer Marcus if he spoke.

Luca had been patiently waiting on the driveway with his arms crossed, looking off into the woods. Andy had seemingly been ready to go and he was as well. Minutes passed before the front door opened, though it seemed equivalent to an eternity. The man turned around to see who had opened the door. Andy walking out came as no surprise. Despite his impatience, Luca was well aware she could have made him wait longer. Ivan followed suit shortly after. The man looked over to the former soldier’s injured form with a raised eyebrow. He didn’t know the context of the conversation the two had before Ivan left with the supply group. Hell, the former capo was surprised that the two had shared any resemblance of a conversation at all. Andy certainly didn’t seem like the type to converse with strangers. He knew nothing about Ivan but Andy was certainly stand-offish enough to not entertain useless dialogue. Luca had enough interactions with her to understand this. The two had been well-acquainted as children. Still they had problems communicating even with prior knowledge of each-other's existence. Admittedly, Ivan seemed to have a better temperament than himself. Enough so that he could seemingly tolerate Andy’s shit.

What Luca was most curious about was why Ivan thought it was his responsibility to tell Andy that her brother wasn’t coming back. This curiosity was killed equally as fast as it had interrupted his thought process. The reason mattered very little. If the moron leaning against the door frame had a chance to bring Owen back and didn’t take it, he was part of the problem. The Italian scoffed before turning from the two. There was no way this conversation was going to change anything. Luca and Andy still had to go back out to tend to unfinished business. In a way, the journey would be a poetic callback to days of old. Back when he was accustomed to mopping up the mess that his less-than-capable peers or underlings stirred up. Even when he held no rank in the family there was never a time when Luca shied away from getting his hands dirty. His life’s work was as unforgiving as his predisposition.

In a moment of silence Luca heard a weird sound. As he turned his head toward its source, the man’s eyes locked onto moving truck in the driveway. There was a slight rocking. Given his prior experience with vehicles of this nature, it was easy to cancel out the possibility that the truck was so upset it was moving on it’s own. No, trucks didn’t have feelings. They weren’t sentient beings. There was only one reason why it would be moving with such a cadence and it certainly wasn’t the wind.

The man slowly made his way toward the back of the truck. Digits grasped at one of the straps across his chest, moving his rifle around his body to the front of his torso. He neared the vertical door of the cargo area toward the rear of the chassis. Then his free hand grasped the latch and lifted it upward. Momentum in conjunction with the upward motion would allow for it to open mostly by itself. This gave Luca enough time to take a few steps back and aim the barrel of his rifle up toward whatever was trapped within the confines of the truck. The door eventually hit the border at the top, leaving the man to witness what he presumed was the problem.

A young girl was all the way at the back of the truck with her hands pressed against the side of the cargo area. She winced slightly at the bright light entering the previously enclosed space before letting out a hiss. For a moment, Luca slowly let his aim down. As the girl slowly began to stumble toward the ledge of the truck the man found himself feeling profoundly sad. In a moment of weakness he crouched down, still watching her. She was a teen. Probably in grade school before the middle school shooting happened. The man placed a hand over his face and hung his head, just as the zombie fell from the ledge of the truck and hit the ground face-first with a rough thud. It continued hissing before pushing itself up to its feet and continuing toward Luca.

e36a5aad14ecfb7ad52de967f51a448e.jpgLast week, he was fighting off hungry thots with a metaphorical shovel. This week, he was shooting deceased children.

The Italian stood up straight once the zombie got within a certain proximity. Luca walked backwards, carefully watching the reanimated girl follow his path as he walked off toward the side of the driveway and more out into the woods. Once she was a fair distance away he lifted his rifle once more. Luca then aimed it at the girl’s face and pulled the trigger without hesitation. The bullet hit the zombie straight in the forehead, resulting in blood briefly spraying out of the wound and into the air as her head cocked back. Then the zombie’s body fell back limp without any further movement.

A few steps forward found Luca standing above the girl’s body. He stared down at it apologetically. It was not her fault that a life she didn’t ask for provided her with a short stick. Luca was all too familiar with this. The idea of this child losing her life to circumstances beyond her control resulted in a familiar, yet resounding way for Luca. Enough so that he felt his neck and face burning red-hot. Walking away from the body of the zombie, his eyes glossed over by a small build-up of tears. Regardless of this event there wasn’t much time to waste.

Upon making his way back toward the driveway Luca decided it would be a good idea to check and see if the moving truck was unlocked. As he made his way over to the driver’s side door, however, Luca stumbled upon a pile of disgusting clothes. Had he not seen it in advance, his shoes would have stepped straight into the muck. Further examination of these clothes found that they were not only wet, but were also permeating a smell equivalent to what would presumably be that of a dead rat covered in dogshit. It was surprising enough on its own that there was a company that existed which dressed manatees, but how the hell did this happen? A moment of retrospective thought provided Luca with the answer - that disgusting neckbeard with the katana that people had intercepted the previous night.

He stripped down naked!?

Stepping around the pile of clothes with the same disgust he came across them with, Luca finally checked the truck’s door. It was unlocked. He opened it up to check the ignition. Much like he had presumed, the keys were still inside. Thankfully Colt hadn’t remembered to take them inside, although it would have been the responsible thing to do. After the spectacle he pulled in the kitchen it would have been quite an awkward conversation to have to walk back in and ask for the keys to the woman’s brand new whip.

There wasn’t much space. Enough for Andy and Luca, with space between for their items at best. He took his bag off first and placed it on the middle seat. Then he would sit the butt of his rifle on the floor while the barrel rested against the leather of the very same seat the bag was on. Luckily there was still enough room on top for Andy to put anything she needed alongside her own seat. His fingers grasped the plastic grip of the keys and turned them. The engine started as a result. Luca then waited for the woman to claim her seat before pulling the truck in reverse and driving off.

After giving the map to the purple haired woman Michael felt rather enthusiastic, he had not only escaped death today, but he also had spoken not to one or two, but three women! although he only did it so he would not get shot Michael still considered it as a personal victory. The purpled haired woman gave him back the map after he told her about the zombies that could be inside the sewers and she also gave him her name ¨Jenna… it sounds kind off familiar¨ he told himself, without having yet realized that he was speaking to his favorite streamer.

After Jenna and the red-hair entered the lodge, Michael quickly changed his clothing to something cleaner. Finally entering the lodge while leaving his dirty clothes outside, the neckbeard was greeted by another drunk woman instructing every one of where they would be sleeping, but Michael could only think of how it appeared that everyone with some kind of power on this group appeared to be rather drunk.
---
---
Michael´s sleep was interrupted when his roommate inside the camper exited it ¨7Am… who in their right minds wakes up at these hours?¨ Michael said to himself, he usually never woke up before 9 o'clock but he was rather hungry, so he stood up, put his shoes back on, grabbed his fedora and started to walk to the lodge.

You pathetic swine.” Michael was able to hear, maybe they were fighting inside the lodge, but he could not have cared less, all he wanted right now was food, and a lot of it Hey guys, is breakfast ready?¨ he asked while entering the house, but he noticed the sweet smell of pancakes, possibly his favorite food of them all, he could never say no to them. He walked to the group eating ¨You don't mind if I sit here right?¨ he stated while sitting down. He could not resist himself and ate them as if they were nothing, the only thing that stopped him momentarily was when he noticed some Mac and cheese nearby and decided to eat them with the Pancakes.

It turned out he was wrong about who the leader of this group was, it wasn't Ivan at all but a foul-mouthed man named Luca who proceeded to berate and threaten his underlings. First introductions were important and Luca was not someone Ralph liked. He held his tongue though as he did not want to get on the bad side of such a man.
Unless he was an madman, Ralph was pretty sure he wasn't going to actually cause physical harm to those who followed him. It was Gunnery Sargent talk, like from that Vietnam war movie a member of his team had made him watch. He didn't much care for it and nor did he care for Luca.
Thankfully, he left on a supply run along with a few others and Ralph thought it was over.

Then, Colt started. She had to be ex-military but what her a bit more frightening was that she pulled out a gun to show she meant business. Yet somebody else Ralph would would have to add to a list of people he didn't want to cross. He'd come clean about being in the CDC and that his people had nothing to do with the hazmats, but that still didn't mean he wouldn't be regarded with suspicion. The best thing to do was to keep his mouth shut and head down around them, so he was going to do that. For now at least. He'd have a serious talk about waving guns around in the lodge later but if he started now things would only get more heated.

Ralph let out a heavy sigh, grabbed a pancake and went off to find Milly. If Ivan and Colt had spooked Ralph a little, he was sure she would be terrified of them. She was doing a jigsaw with Marcus, another ex-military person by the looks of things but what separated him from Ivan and Colt was that he kept his cool. Someone Ralph would get along with in his mind.

"I love jigsaw puzzles. Do you mind if I help?" He asked Milly with a smile. If the girl was still shaken up by the commotion from earlier then she was hiding it well, focused on the puzzle.
"My grandmother and I made a couple back in the day."

EA-007-800x800.jpg

The commotion had spooked Cammy, who was now whining as she hid under a table in the kitchen. Her ears raised as Luca slammed the door and she went back to resting her head on her front paws.
"Oh my, what a c***." Jenna muttered, speaking under her breath. Colt was pissed but Jenna would be to if anyone talked to her like that. She didn't care for the gun, but she could understand where the ex-soldier was coming from with ease.
She'd be the better one to approach about the sewer idea, but not now. Colt was a ticked off, possibly hungover babysitter carrying a loaded firearm and Jenna did not want to cross her. It could wait.

Cammy whined once more, looking at the pancake then into Jenna's eyes.
"Oh for f-. Fine."
She tore off a piece of it, handing it to the German Shepard who gobbed it up and of course, wanted more.
"We'll split it. Fair?" She smiled, tearing the pancake in two and giving half to the dog who still wanted more.

The dog sat patiently under the table, waiting in case some scraps fell to the floor while Jenna had some mac and cheese and sat down next to Michael. With a mouthful of mac and cheese she looked to him.
"So Michael. You like videogames?"

Ray didn't feel comfortable with the way Luca spoke to everyone. There was no excuse for this outburst. The drunk lady had her share of problems, but he could tell that there was a caring person in that body. Ray prepared himself a sandwich on the side during the whole fiasco and sat at the end of a table to munch on it. By the time Luca left, he was finished with the sandwich and a lot of the people in the house were left with worried looks on their faces. A sigh escaped his mouth as he stood up to wash his plate and put it away. He made his way into the lounging area and sat down to think and relax. It was true that they needed someone to lead the group, but it didn't seem appropriate for their leader to be unstable. There were too many conflicting personalities in this facility, and too many people that were not taking the apocalypse too well. The new rotting world was affecting them all, and adaptation was necessary. Maybe we need to break our group down into two or three smaller groups... May be easier to manage and we could pair people that work well together. Ray was also ready to get out of the lodge. He felt that he had been in it long enough and needed to do something more beneficial for the team. There was definitely truth in the words Luca spoke, about what the group needed, and Ray was ready to step up.

The seat creaked as he used the arm rests to push himself up and to his feet. He made his way over to one of the newcomers, an older man that Ray felt had a good head on his shoulders. He approached the man who was talking to the little girl, "Doctor Fisher?" Ray knew he got the man's name right when his words obviously caught his attention. "I'm Ray", he offered the man his hand to shake, "I was wondering if you'd be interested in putting together a small team to go for more supplies. I figure you know what we would need medically wise and I need to pull my weight, so what do you think?"

You've got red on you.

Sarah scoffed when Owen regarded her 'bum arm' but otherwise nervously smiled, not wasting a moment to cover it with the black bandana that still hung wrapped around her neck. She should have figured she couldn't keep something like that under Owen's radar. If she remembered correctly, he was the king of getting hurt and trying to pass it off like a macho man. Still, she had to explain herself at least a little bit before they opened Pandora's box here. "Hey, I just don't want you to think I'm a burden or anything. I've made it this far, asshat." She retorted, trying to ignore the pounding heart in her chest and the sweat gathering on her palms. Now that she thought about it... she hadn't exactly had much experience stabbing things in the head. But that wasn't what scared her most. Losing him would be far worse.

Gulping, the young girl affirmatively nodded back at her dear cousin. Her smoky brown eyes fixed on the door he was about to open, hoping her sick mind kept its act together and let her dwell in unaltered reality for a little while. As Owen gently scraped the wall with his bat, Sarah took initiative and stepped back a few to avoid getting in his way. The hunting knife in her right hand stood erect, albeit a bit shaky. Still, when the moment came, she was confident she could put it to use. If it ended up being harder than she thought and placing the both of them in a sticky situation, that's what her left hand was for: drawing the gun holstered to her hip and blasting away. If her injury permitted as much. The consequences of that last resort weren't lost to her either. Especially in a place as thick with the miasma of the undead as this.

Before long their moment of action was finally here. The impact between the stained edge of Owen's bat and the rotting skull of the snapper reverberated throughout the hallway in one sharp ring, painting the wall to their left red with blood and brain matter. Sarah was far enough at that point to avoid being speckled with any of it, but she was sure Owen wasn't so lucky. When the following snapper stumbled in and tripped over the twitching corpse of the previous, the young woman only took a second to focus before bursting forward and sliding onto her knees. The decaying nurse struggling to understand what had happened seemed like she'd been a nice person when she was alive. The pink bow in her silver hair was pretty endearing. But Sarah couldn't think about that now. In one swift motion, she sunk her knife into the back of that nurse's head.

Although she wouldn't know it, pulling the knife back out was made easier with the blood grooves along the length of the blade. Which certainly worked in Sarah's favor as two additional snappers suddenly approached through the doorway simultaneously. Retrieving her weapon, she quickly bounced backwards when one of them immediately lunged for her. A man in a ghastly polo shirt, that was probably just as bad even if it wasn't soaked in blood and bile, landed chest first on the previous two corpses before grabbing her foreleg as she scrambled backward. Before the fiend could bit her, however, Sarah kicked it straight in the face with the sole of her boot and freed herself from its grasp. But no moment was spared as the second snapper came through: a fat man in a doctor's coat.

She managed to scramble up onto both feet just as it took a few abnormally quick steps forward. With her agility and ease of mobility, however, Sarah ducked beneath its flailing arms before reappearing behind it. In the moment it was trying to decide whether to turn around or go for the tasty looking boy instead, the young woman sunk her blade into the back of its head with a satisfying squelch before kicking it right in the ass and dislodging the blade from its skull. The obese body slumped on both knees before collapsing, leaking a viscous yellow bile from the corner of its ajar mouth as the last of its death throes garbled out into the hallway. Unfortunately, the zombie in the bad polo shirt Sarah now had her back turned towards had managed to crawl forward and grab her foreleg once more. "Fuck!" She exclaimed, prompting her to desperately try to free her leg from its grasp as the fifth and final snapper entered the hallway.

Un-needed StressShinoa happily helped Lelianna make breakfast, but they were soon interrupted by Luca yelling. The commotion in the kitchen really frightened the young mother. Luca yelling at everyone was really uncalled for. Within seconds of him making a scene, Shinoa didn't really want to trust him. If he was like this now, how was he going to be once there was a newborn infant in the lodge? As far as she was concerned, he was too dangerous to be near a child. While Luca went on his tirade and took the bulk of his anger out on Colt...before threatening Brian. As she started trembling and placing her hand on her belly, she felt Lelianna grab her hand. Shinoa gave it a gentle squeeze as she felt a fairly strong contraction, a look of discomfort on her face. Glancing over at Milly, she could see that the younger woman was clearly very shaken up by the yelling.

Once it was over and done with. She could only give Colt a sad look, but her heart sank as the drunk woman drew a gun and rambled before stumbling off. She soon felt her stomach hurting more. The contraction was off to a strong start, but it soon came to an end as soon as she sat down to eat breakfast with everyone who remained. Once she was done eating, as she ate a smaller portion compared to her fellow survivors, Shinoa proceeded to collect all the dishware and cooking ware from the people who were finished eating so that she could go do the dishes to clear her mind. As the sink water started running, she raised her sleeves to keep them from getting too wet as she began to wash the dishes.

Confession in ConfidenceOnce he had gotten Lelianna's attention, he adjusted his tie once more to straighten it out before ushering her out to the backyard before closing the door. Looking back, he went to the balcony where they could enjoy the view and not worry about having anyone in ear shot. Andy and Luca were probably long gone, so he didn't worry about them attempting to eavesdrop. Especially not Luca. If he heard what Brian was about to say, chances were he would get killed in his sleep, which he didn't exactly have on his agenda. "Alright, I know I'm probably gonna be putting you in a difficult position, but if I don't tell someone soon...I'm probably gonna lose my shit and end up like Lieutenant Jackass." He said, referring to Luca. "And I'm choosing to tell you first because...you seem trustworthy and...I hope you can keep a secret." He took a deep breath before pulling something out of his jacket pocket; a badge wallet. He opened it carefully to show her the contents inside; his CIA Identification Card and Special Agent Badge. "I'm an Agent for the CIA." He frowned, feeling horrible about the confession altogether.

If word were to get out, he would be in deep shit. "For those guys in the Hazmat Suits that we saw yesterday and the day before? I was the liaison between their employer and the US Government. I was supposed to oversee the retrieval of the parasite that is now spread across the city. And you saw how that went."

Brian soon felt a pang of guilt in his heart. "And if you're gonna hate me...hate me. I just wanted to get that off my chest. I don't think I'd be able to live with myself if I didn't say anything." He put the badge and ID away back into his jacket. "But I promise that I'm gonna set things right...and its gonna start with getting us all out of here alive." He said before looking at Shinoa, who was washing the dishes out of the corner of his eye. "So Doc...I...I hope you understand. And I feel a bit better...just telling someone."

Fisher returned the handshake "Pleasure to meet you, Ray."
The older man seemed to have a cooler head on his shoulders than the likes of Luca or Colt, but that wasn't saying much, especially in Luca's case. Knowing Colt was in the room, he glanced over at her before looking back at Ray. He didn't want anyone to get in trouble and she had made herself very clear that nobody was to leave until Luca returned. While he knew or at the very least hoped that she wouldn't resort to shooting anyone, he wanted everyone to stay on her good side.
"You can easily pull your weight in other ways." He smiled.
Wanting to do more was admirable, and the found that Ray's warm smile, spectacles and need to help others reminded him of his own grandfather.
"What are you good at? Everyone's good at something, my friend."

"Perhaps we should talk, in private?"

Passing the living room as she followed Brian outside and seeing Colt sulking like a child after her outburst made Leliana a little upset. Denial, daydrinking, did the woman even stop and think for a momnet maybe there's a reason they had accused her of having a problem only two days after knowning her? Leliana was sure rhis was the first time she had seen colt drink water, and only maybe the second time she had seen Colt eat something. It was annoying, but she wasnt going to say anything. If Colt wanted to make everyone watch while she slowed drowened herself, fine. Have at it. Leliana could focus on other people then. Stepping outside, she let Brian close the door behind them, pulling thr sleeves of her Moe's employee jackets down to cover her arms this time because she felt like maybe they would be out there longer than just a few minutes. And boy was she right.

Leliana had her suspscions, but she didn't actually think they'd be right. She didn't believe him, didn't want to believe him, but as she stared at that badge...how could she not? He explained how he was the liasion for the Hazmat's and the Govrnement. She looked up at him, then back at his badge, the back up him before she kinda laughed a little. A pity laugh perhaps, maybe for him or for herself. "Why tell me?" She asked, "Why not tell the ex military? Or Andy? Or Luca? Sure he's intense but he's not gonna hurt you for it." Because she didn't want to know. Actully she didn't want to be right, a goddamn government agent was never a good sign in any situation. Even a family dinner could turn bad thanks to these guys. "Do you know what happened at the middle school?" She asked, "They tried to slaughtered everyone who walked through those doors. As far as I know, the people you saw here yesterday when you arrived, were the only ones who escaped. I'm guessing they've taken the town and locked us in like this is Raccoon City." She looked to Brian for a moment, before turning to the door, "Come help me make an inventory of the food we have. Lets call it step one in making up for dooming Aurora."

With that, Leliana opened the back door and headed inside, having lost her appiete. There were bags and cabinates to go through to make a lost of what they had, and since Leliana was good at making list, wether Brian actually came and helped her or not didn't matter. She entered the kitchen to grab the journal and pencil she was using, and one of thr bags from yesterday before heading over to the dining tabled putting both on the table. Two people were still over there. Purple hair, pretty, and two meals. That was going to be something that could come back and bite them later on. "Oh, goodmorning. I'm Leliana nice to meet you," she said with a quick smile, "I'm the one who's gonna be patching you up if you get hurt, tho perferable that won't happen." She unzipped the bag the same time she flipped the journal open. "Don't mind me by the way, I'm just making an inventory of what we have."

Jenna: The Lodge

EA-007-800x800.jpg

The kitchen became more packed. The pregnant lady was washing dishes and now the nurse had entered the room as well, making a list of something and going about her business. She seemed friendly enough, which put her in Jenna's good books far more than the group's madman of a leader. Her being a nurse was a slight problem though, at least for Jenna.
With one nurse and a doctor already would they really need her? There was little to stop Luca from tossing her out, especially given his demeanour and it wasn't like anyone in the group would speak up against him. He ruled through fear, so anyone that did have the guts to speak up would face his wrath. It didn't look good for her. Hopefully her rant from yesterday where she sold herself would have at least given the group and their glorious leader something to think about.
Hopefully it would be enough for them to keep her around.

Still, all of this was only temporary. At least until she could get out of the doomed city and carry out the rest of her plan. It would need a name, all good operations did but she was taking it one step at a time.
Finishing a final mouthful of mac and cheese, Jenna smiled back at the nurse.

"I guess I'm the one who patches you up?" She smiled "I mean, hopefully I won't have to but over the past day or two I've had to deal with glass in a dog's paw and a bullet wound in a girl's arm."
She sighed heavily "And I think things will only get madder from there. So long as we stay here."

"It's Jenna, by the way. Some people call me Gem and before shit hit the fan in this city most of the internet called me something else."
Tutting and shaking her head she added "Been less than forty eight hours and I already miss it."

Jenna glanced back over at the pregnant lady and stood up with her own dish in hand, washing it in the sink next to her.
"Why don't you sit down for a minute or two? I'll take over." She smiled

74f3cdad837a4dde3de83b74e816eee1c0a6856c_00.pngShe was already outside, bag over her shoulder and ready to go when she heard the front door open behind her. Andy didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. No one ever got mad at her when she was mean to them, they all felt the need to apologize, walk on eggshells, cater to her. It was infuriating. Ivan would do the same, it was the same song and dance. Just once, it would be nice for someone to fight back.

His words fell on deaf ears, she didn’t even stop walking down the steps to acknowledge his presence. Her red pony tail swaying back and forth with each stride toward the running truck. Anyone who could just totally forget about Owen, not to mention forget about her wasn’t worth a second of her time. All of her focus was on getting her brother back.

While she was sure Owen had been the one who had suggested staying behind, they shouldn’t have left him alone. Someone needed to have his back. Andy knew full and well that was why she was going with Luca. While she was mostly useless in a fight, having anyone to look over your shoulder was better than no one. The two of them pretended to have sort of a mutual disdain for the other, but other than her brother there was no one else she trusted more. Andy knew Luca felt the same.

The popping noise of the cab door opening sounded, as she pulled the heavy metal thing toward her, using the handle to pull herself up into the cab. Luca had thoughtfully left room for her bag, so she put it in the empty space in the seat next to her and pulled the door shut. It was rather snug in the cab, but with the stuff between them at least it didn’t feel claustrophobic.

‘No worse than sharing a bed with him,’ she thought sarcastically.

“It sounds like his last known location would have been Moe’s,” Andy told the driver as he pulled off. “All I know past that is that he left to go find more ‘food’.” The girl rolled her eyes, who in the fuck thought it was a good idea to let him go without knowing where he would be.

If there was one thing that hadn’t changed about Owen over the years it was his knack for getting into trouble. Luca’s right hand gripped the leather steering wheel as the truck followed along the narrow dirt road. In comparison to his luxury car, this hunk of metal shit definitely wasn’t going to cut it in the long run. The dashboard had been fiercely outdated. If the man had to guess on the age of the moving truck he would guess it was probably around ten years old. Now he personally was no professional on all things regarding trucks but seeing as the radio still had space for a cassette to fit in it, chances were high that it wasn’t from more relevant times. The scenery was seemingly never-ending. That was probably the worst part about Aurora. Everything surrounding the city looked exactly the same.

Luca didn’t know the precise location that the two were headed to. Obviously Owen was somewhere in Aurora so that general direction worked as a guidepoint right up until Andy suggested Moe’s. This wasn’t a place that Luca frequented often but he knew where it was. Without saying a word the man grasped a rotational handle on the door and rolled it around clockwise. When he had opened the window about a quarter of the way down, the man let go of the door. While Luca’s foot gently pressed against the gas pedal, that very same hand reached into the pocket of his jacket to remove a pack of cigarettes. Between the one he had on him and the one in his bag there were maybe five left, at most. He popped open the lid of the pack with his thumb and then pressed his lips against the top. Using his teeth he grabbed one of the cigarettes by the filter and removed it. Moments later it was lit. Luca’s arm rested along the top of the door. The smoke resulting from the burning ember at the tip had streamlined it out of the window as a result. Regardless, the smell slightly lingered.

“It doesn’t make sense to me that after running for twenty-four hours that he would want to stay out there. Either way it was a stupid move. That moron definitely wasn’t using that bravado of his in an effective way.” Luca grumbled, smoke escaping from his lips with each word. Hues moved from the windshield to the the rear-view mirror. Nothing was behind them. Then he checked both side mirrors. The very same result. It was inevitable the truck was going to make noise. With it brought unwanted suitors. Apparently the location of the lodge was suitable enough so that the group was far-removed from the regular threat of zombies. In the city, they must have littered the streets.

“He’s in the most dangerous place he could possibly be in. Because he wouldn’t be fucking Owen if he wasn’t.”

The smell of cigarettes had never bothered Andy despite never smoking herself. Owen had smoked for most of their life and in her early days the two of them had been near inseparable. Andy leaned her head against her window, looking out at the blur of trees and flora as they made their way back toward civilization. She listened to Luca speak, surprised at how much she agreed with what he had to say. It somehow kept escaping her that he was probably the only person who knew Owen as well as she did.

“You aren’t wrong,” the girl said with a tone of disgust. How many times was Luca forced to bail her brother out of a bad situation? Owen rarely talked about his adult life. As soon as he had started down a less than legal path, she had been shut out. Hell, she didn’t even know that he and Luca had been hanging out past his last visit to their house. From the sounds of things however, Luca was just as familiar with his sacrificial behavior as she was.

“For someone so ‘selfless’ he sure puts the people closest to him in some shitty situations.” She was angry at him. Why wouldn’t she be? Luca was right, this was the most dangerous thing he could have done. It was stupid, and careless. Coming back to live and fight another day was far more helpful to both their group and to himself. But Owen had never been the one to think about the big picture. His sights always seemed to be set on whatever stupid heroic thing he could next, never realizing who he hurt by doing so. Her anger at the rest of the group for not bringing him back was misplaced and she knew it. The only person who had caused Owen any harm was Owen himself.

“He’s so fucking stupid sometimes.”

Yoshida.Haru.full.1362130.png“Not selfless.” Luca responded, placing the cigarette back between his lips momentarily. The man parted his lips to inhale a little bit of air after he had taken his drag before he continued on with his audible stream of conscious. “It’s opposite. He’s selfish. Actions like these that show a blatant disregard for people that actually care about his well-being. Owen lived his entire life ignoring the fact that his actions also affect others. He would instead rather brush it off and claim people should worry about themselves first, when that’s actually a rare personality trait to have in the first place.”

“You aren’t telling me anything I don’t know,” Andy said with a wistful sigh. “I’ve been trying to get the same thing through that thick skull for years.”

Luca brought his hand back down onto the ledge of the door. There was never a time that Owen didn’t go out of his way for people he didn’t know and Luca always wondered why. Nobody helped out others for free. From his own personal experience, this was most certainly true. If there was no payment involved, then usually it was in hopes of receiving something else. If karma was a loop, people down on their luck would just have to be good samaritans in order for things in their life to change. Such a concept was foreign to Luca, who was a proponent of the ideology that people created their own luck. He made a right off of the dirt trail. The two were finally on the highway.

As the truck began to pick up speed, the right tire hit a pothole. Eyes checked the dashboard. There was no indication that the tire had been busted or popped. Luca would have to keep an eye on it just to be sure. There were a no other vehicles in sight. Aurora wasn’t the biggest city in the nation by far, so it wasn’t a surprise that the main highway of the city was desolate. It didn’t run state-wide so it usually was only used by citizens of the town. Judging by the dispositions of the reanimated people they had run into, the dead weren’t driving any vehicles.

“Hopefully he’s still alive and has some supplies. It might save us some time if he grabbed the right shit. He met everyone else who came back to the lodge in this clown car, right?” The bridge of his nose crinkled momentarily before an unenthused Luca turned to briefly look at Andy.

Her eyes met Luca’s when he turned to look at her, but only for a moment. Andy turned her face to look back out the window, her eyes on the side mirror, watching for anything out of the ordinary. To say Andy hadn’t considered the fact her brother may be dead would be a lie. It was almost impossible not to think about it, and in excruciating detail. The truth was she was going into this little adventure totally blind, she knew very little about her brother’s disappearance. No one at the lodge had offered anything more helpful than ‘he decided to stay behind to gather more supplies.’

“I think so,” Andy offered. “None of his ‘companions’ seemed to share any real details, but it sounds to me like he stayed behind to feed the extra mouths.” The way she said companions seemed to indicate that they were anything but, the girl had no reason to trust them. As far as she knew they could have left him to die and covered their tracks by lying to her about it.

“The only thing I know for sure was that the little blonde with the medical bag asked him for some medical supplies. I don’t know where he would find those, maybe the hospital. But I don’t think that even Owen is stupid enough to go there.” Andy gave a little laugh, but it was hollow. In fact, it wouldn’t be entirely out of character for Owen to go charging into the most dangerous place in Aurora for a pretty face. Luca was the only other person at the lodge who knew exactly what kind of carnage they left behind there.

“If he’s not at Moe’s, that’s definitely the next place to check. The hospital isn’t on lock down anymore - no one’s left to quarantine it.” He interjected, reminding her that if there was anyone stupid enough to go walking back into the hospital at the chance of much-needed medical supplies, it was Owen.

Andy let out another frustrated sigh, Luca was mimicking her worries. It was sort of uncanny. She was used to being able to read people, but it wasn’t often that someone was able to understand what was going on in her head. It was just because he also knew who Owen was, she reminded herself.

“Yeah, but if it’s anything like the school then it’s crawling with corpses now. You saw what happened as we left. All the soldiers accomplished was raising an army of those monsters. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that.” Andy would do whatever it took to get her dope of a brother back, but she wasn’t stupid. She might be a good shot with her bow, but she couldn’t take on a hoard of dead ones, even with Luca backing her up.

“If he stopped for food, he might have gone to the Town and Country. It’s near Moe’s and it’s a grocery store. It’s about as good a place as any to stock up the pantry.” It wouldn’t hurt to check there before going to the hospital and would likely be a safer run. Not to mention, if Owen hadn’t been successful then their group still needed food. Her freezer of deer meat wouldn’t last forever.

“At least all those hunting lessons you had will finally pay off.” Luca remarked, understanding that the two most likely need to focus on grabbing items that were not perishable or had a long shelf-life. It was definitely up to the last supply group to get more stuff to eat but it couldn’t hurt to stock up further. The Italian had been to Town and Country a number of times throughout his life as it was the only supermarket in the area that sold organic meats. Whenever Luca wanted a good home-cooked meal, that was where the majority of his money was spent. Otherwise, he was forced to rely on going out to restaurants in order to ingest the quality of food that his palette had become accustomed to.

The man took a right off of the following exit. As the road looped toward a toll area, Luca adjusted the truck so that it would continue driving through. Once the truck passed underneath the scanner, his eyes turned to the sign. The green LED light had turned red, indicating that the scanner had not picked up the pass responsible for paying the toll. Luca chuckled, slightly shaking his head as he continued driving. He couldn’t believe that the company responsible for the fast passes were still trying to heckle people out of their money, even when the town’s population was closer to zero.

“All the zombies that were at the school must have moved on to other places. We saw one eating a person at the hospital a few days back, so it’s obvious that they feed. There’s no way they’re all just standing around the same place they died waiting for people to show up. It’s likely that they’ve spread out all across Aurora at this point. I’m sure some zombies are still in the school and the hospital, but I highly doubt the number of inhabitants for both places are anywhere near what they once were. If Owen’s at the hospital, then I bet he had a similar hypothesis.”

“The hospital was on lockdown,” Andy contested. “Although, if we got out I’m sure others could have too.” She had never taken Luca for an optimist, but it was helping soothe her nerves. Having someone else be the voice of logic was a nice change of pace.

Coming off of the exit, Luca took a left as he had been headed toward Town and Country. However, the road leading from the exit to the one street that ran through the entirety of Aurora had been blocked by a sea of vehicles. There was no way to get around them. The man’s foot hit the brake pedal as he got closer. He stared out of the windshield momentarily, wondering what the best course of action was. It was possible for them to turn around and take an alternative route. Though, that wasn’t the only option they had. The truck was rather big and clunky, despite having the most room for storing supplies.

“We can find another way to get there or hotwire one of the cars in front of this pile.” Luca said, ending the pause in conversation. Then he look over to Andy while waiting to hear her input.

“We are only going to run into this issue again. I’m sure this isn’t the only road blocked there are going to be cars stopped everywhere. We can always circle back and grab the truck if we need it for storage. “ Andy was already opening the passenger side door, her left hand gripped through the body strap of her duffel bag. The girl slung it over her shoulder and jumped down into the street. She rubbed her hands together for warmth, holding them up to her mouth to breath into them, letting her hot breath pour over the cold skin. Winters could be brutal in Aurora. It would have been smart to bundle up more, the last few days had been so mild the girl hadn’t even thought to do so.

Luca watched as Andy slipped out of the passenger seat and shut the door. He followed suit, stepping out of the car and turning back momentarily to grab his bag as well as his gun. The two reconveined at the front of the truck. After taking a moment to survey the scene further, he looked down at Andy just as her lips parted to speak.

“It’s getting fucking cold.”

Light hues moved from Andy to the desolate street. It wouldn’t be the smartest idea to walk through the cluster of vehicles. The man decided the best route to take would be around the cars to the right. There was a gigantic cement guardrail on one side; any zombies nearby would be forced to come from the opposite side. This also minimized the chance of being attacked by a zombie that had been otherwise trapped in a locked car. Both of Luca’s hands grasped the grips belonging to his rifle. He carefully lifted it as he took the lead. There were no bodies in his immediate line of sight. The Italian couldn’t help but wonder the scenario in which people would just abandon their vehicles in the middle of the car. It was as if they just decided to up and leave.

There were small things out of place. Pieces of tire out in the street. Mirrors broken. Dents, scratches and smashed lights. As Luca slowly led Andy past the cars he continued studying their condition. On the car nearest to him he noticed bullet holes in the windshield. He paused, looking closer among the rest of the cars. Bullet holes in the frames, bullets which popped the tires. That explained the broken mirrors and lights as well. Suddenly, the man found himself recreating the scene.

“They didn’t stop at the middle school…” He mumbled to himself. Of course not.

A firing squad had pulled up to the intersection. Judging by the lengthy line of cars, multiple men must have pulled up to block off the traffic. Then they hopped out of their trucks, walked up to the cars and began firing. Some cars smashed into others trying to turn or drive off, other people got out to run. One thing was for certain and that was there was not one body left. Just a bunch of blood stains - on leather, cement, metal, grass. There was no shortage of blood. The more Luca kept focusing on it, the worse the scene actually was.

The man continued walking. Eventually the two made it to the intersection. When Luca turned right, he immediately noticed the main street had been filled with abandoned cars as far as his eyes could see. This was something that the supply group hadn’t warned them about - either that, or the patrols were still on the streets of Aurora, slowly but surely taking out each and every person left. Traveling along this road wasn’t going to be the best option. They were going to have to find an alternative route. Luca planned to veer off via an alleyway at his best opportunity. For now, the two would use the sidewalk to traverse US-225.

Luca had a pretty decent grip on his bearings. He knew they were traveling south and had already passed Hinkley High School, which was located slightly north in relation to the heart of the city. US-70 ran horizontally through the entirety of Colorado. It was the highway they had turned off of. They had quite a few blocks to walk before they made it to Town and Country. It was chilly outside, but the walk wasn’t far enough for the weather to be bothersome.

large.png

As he carefully continued down the sidewalk, a bell rang. Alerted, Luca stopped walking. A zombie stumbled out of a convenience store a few feet ahead of the two. The man immediately held an arm out to stop Andy’s forward momentum. It took a few steps forward before turning to look at the two. Luca slowly put down his rifle, despite one hand holding onto the grip. The zombie growled and quickened its pace as it headed toward the two. Next, Luca withdrew a sharp kitchen knife from the depths of his jacket. It was the only weapon he had that was sharp and did not make noise. While humans at a relatively close distance had a hard time hearing a silencer, he was unsure about the capability of zombies in the same context.

Once the zombie got close enough Luca swung the barrel of his rifle horizontally. As it connected with the reanimated man’s face, the contact forced the zombie's positioning to shift. It stumbled to Luca’s left side. His free hand came down vertically onto the top of its head with the knife as it was caught off-balance. The blade ripped through the skin, tendons and muscles before finally penetrating bone. He applied a fair bit of pressure. Then he lifted his leg and smashed his heel into the zombie’s chest, forcing its limp body to trip backwards and slam into the passenger-side door of a car that was behind it. The back of the zombie’s head broke the window before its body slid down the side. This triggered its alarm.

Luca audibly cursed as he quickly made his way to the zombie. He cleaned the blood off of the kitchen knife with the use of the clean portion of the zombie’s shirt. Then he quickly left the body there, blood leaking down over the dead zombies face from the gash that had left the top of its head practically split. The Italian was pissed. In trying to keep quiet, he only accomplished making more noise and letting their location known. He immediately turned to Andy, placing the knife back in his pocket as that very same hand returned to the second grip of his rifle.

“Run, now! GO!” The man said, grasping the girl by the back of her jacket and pulling her momentarily as he began to sprint down the sidewalk past her. They definitely needed to turn off at the nearest alley-way. If they didn’t get off 225, both of them would be dead in a matter of minutes.

While Michael kept eating the Pancakes from before, he was able to distinguish Jenna´s voice after she asked him if he liked videogames ¨Yeah I like videogames, do yo-¨ he stopped speaking when he finally saw her face ¨HOLYFUCKINGSHIT¨ Michael said quickly, he could barely comprehend how he didn´t recognize her since yesterday… although having a gun pointed at his face certainly did not help the situation either.

¨You- You´re PurpleNoodle?!¨ He barely was able to pronounce ¨I can't actually believe I'm meeting you, you are like my favorite Streamer!¨ He had not been this excited since the BNHA new season was released, and it was showing ¨I don't know if you remember me, but I´m Randy Beans34, and due to me watching your Stream I didn´t go outside for the remainder of the day so… I guess you could say you kind off saved my life¨ This statement had been partially true, because the Neckbeard had not planned to go outside again that day, but was informed of the zombies due to the girl´s stream.

Before he was able to keep talking to Jenna a blonde girl walked up to them ¨Oh, good morning. I´m Leliana nice to meet you¨ The girl introduced herself and told them she was a doctor or that she had some kind of medical training. ¨Good morning Leliana, or Leli if you don't mind me calling you that, I´m Michael Schmidt¨ *he now tips his fedora* ¨But you may call me Michael, M´Lady¨.

Shortly after Colt’s rant about pushing her she made her way into the living room and sat in the corner of the room eating her food and drinking some water. Well at least the woman wasn’t sulking over what she just had to deal with, maybe he could talk to her later. Soon Marcus was joined by one more person who wanted to do the puzzle with him and Milly, he recognized him as a doctor from last night, at least that’s what he overheard. For some reason, Marcus found the doctor’s face the type you shouldn’t trust because it seemed too trusting. Hopefully, he had good intentions like Marcus thought.

The Silver-haired male was glad to see Milly jumped at the opportunity to join him, it seemed that his plan worked quite well. Her mind was already off of what just happened, he could only hope that she didn’t overhear Colt yelling some more at the people in the kitchen not to test her. He continued to work on the puzzle as the doc helped but didn’t acknowledge him. “Hey…Milly, I’m gonna go help out Colt real quick alright?” He said before making his way over to the woman. “Hey, Colt…you wanna talk about it? Or um you can just talk and I’ll listen?” He suggested.

A Moment of PeaceShinoa was at least half-way done with the dishes when Jenna had approached her and started to wash her own plate. When the woman offered to take over, Shinoa only nodded with a frown. "I probably should do that. My legs and my back are starting to hurt." She said before taking a deep breath.

The young mother proceeded to finish one last plate to get it out of the way. She did, however, feel bad because she left the worst of it for Jenna. Mainly the pans and cooking utensils. At the very least she had gotten the forks and knives out of the way. After drying off her hands, Shinoa started waddling towards the closest chair and sat down. As she took another deep breath, the young mother started cradling her swollen belly. Although she was doing well so far over the course of the past two days, surprised that she didn't go into labor two days ago when things had gone awry, Shinoa was definitely getting more and more anxious about the thought of giving birth. She heavily doubted that her daughter would be patient enough for them to get out of the city to make her entrance. The unborn little princess had a mind of her own, given how much she fidgeted and kicked throughout the night. Not only that, but her contractions were starting to act up too. Nonetheless, she still hoped that she would at least make it to her due date. Come to think of it, Shinoa still hadn't finalized on what to name her darling baby girl. As she caressed her belly, she smiled a little. "Just a few more days..." She mused, smiling a little.

Between excited and terrified, there were certainly some mixed feelings about childbirth. Either way, Shinoa looked forward to become a Mother despite her young age. Hopefully her daughter would have a chance to grow up and have a life as Shinoa did. As she looked out the window, she started to hold hope that she would make it out of Aurora alive...and make it to Seattle. Her poor Father must be worried sick. Hopefully her Grandmother had made it out of the city at least.

After her break, she went on back to continue helping Jenna with the dishes to get them done faster. Once it was over, she decided to go take a nap. As she started ascending the stairs she saw Marcus and Milly putting together a jigsaw puzzle before Marcus had gotten up to talk to Colt. Once she had gotten into the room that she shared with Milly, Colt and Lelianna, Shinoa relaxed herself before closing the door before laying down on the bed. Setting her pillow, she soon rolled over to her left side and bent one of her knees. It wasn't long until she drifted off into a deep sleep.

A Helping HandWhile Brian was relieved to finally have the weight off of his shoulders, the reception he received felt rather unwelcoming. Not that he really blamed Lelianna, because he pretty much dropped a deep, dark secret on her and now she has keep her lips sealed too. "You seem trustworthy. And if I told Ticking Time Bomb or Soldier Girl, they'd probably both blow my head off without a second thought." He responded, his tone a little colder then when he had initially confessed. "Telling Robin Hood? Well, that's pushing it...just a bit. There are only two other people besides you that I'd even think about telling and showing what I just showed you."

When asked about what happened at the school, he shook his head, then looked down in shame. "Yeah...I was there...and say what you will, I tried to stop it. Initially I thought they were segregating the infected from the uninfected to keep a disaster from happening when the townspeople were congregating at the school. And this was a little after shit hit the fan at the Hospital." He maintained eye-contact with the much younger woman, but found himself struggling to do so because of the heavy sense of guilt on his mind and in his heart. "But then...When they started shooting people outside...That's where I was done being the middleman. After they started their massacre...There was little I could do. When I tried to stop them...they tried to kill me too. Because I'm a loose end now..." He sighed. "And yes...you're right. They have the city sealed off within a fifty mile perimeter. Just like Raccoon. All the roads are blocked off now and since they most likely told my employers at the Pentagon that I went rogue..." As Brian put his hands in his pockets as he soon started walking with Lelianna.

As they walked back inside, she asked him to help her inventory the food. Brian agreed to. He took out his phone, which had half of its life left and pulled up a notepad app to use. As she checked the cabinet, he went ahead to check the freezer and the refrigerator. As he recorded the items inside, Brian began pondering on who to tell next. It was either going to be Doctor Fisher...or the girl with the purple hair, Jenna. The thought of telling Andy, aka Robin Hood was still pushing it. As he continued to think about it, he just finished writing down the items in the freezer before walking back to Lelianna, allowing her to finish writing before telling her of the additional items found. "And...between you and me...Thanks. For listening, I mean." He then placed his phone back into his jacket pocket, wondering what they were going to do next.

Colt had finished her crackers, but her stomach still twisted from the brooding guilt and stress swirling within her. Even drinking the water did not help. Her throat was no longer dry but that meant very little as her head was still thumping and the crackers had exasperated her nausea. Why couldn’t this hangover just kill her already? It would be better than just this. After she had finished, Colt had some time to think. What was she going to do now? Inside, she was boiling with anger and frustration. She had to lead this group of people that, now, she was convinced had no faith in her. And why should they? She had been close to firing a shot in their direction towards them to make her point. But no. She was not Luca. If she had been any more furious, she would have at least attempted to shoot him as he left. But no. She did not need a reason for him to justify breaking someone’s legs. If he was so bad, why wouldn’t he break hers? Afraid to look like some kind of woman beater? Colt shuddered a little at the thought. She was not a stranger to men trying to kill her, that was for sure. That and things that, when thought about, made Colt want to reach for her flask. But it was in the kitchen. Maybe she could hit one of them over the head with it.

The ex-Marine was broken from her thoughts as she felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see Marcus as he asked her if she wanted to talk about what had happened. She could only give him a tired ‘what do you think?’ look. But his next question was what got her attention. She darted her sore eyes a little before looking to the front door.

I need fresh air.” She said to him with a slight flick of her aching head, indicating she wanted him to come. But as she got up, the woman was almost brought back down by an excruciating and shooting pain in her non-existent leg. Oh God, she hoped Owen would be back soon with her medication. She went into her rucksack, taking out the little tub of pills also took the Colt SAA Flattop Target that she had taken from Marcus’ father’s shop out of her bag (it was unloaded) and carried it outside. It was a cold morning, the wind sliced her cheek and the clouds were a steely grey. Colt did not like the way it looked. With a grunt, she sat heavily onto the porch, still holding the revolver in her hand. She ran her thumb along its barrel, listening to the click-click-click as she turned it. It was a beautiful piece of weaponry. She kept her gaze on the firearm as Marcus sat next to her. After a few moments of silence, she stopped turning the barrel and sighed.

Should have expected that.” she grumbled, “It’s no’ like I don’ deserve it. It’s just... Ten. Ten years I spent being told I’m nothing. That I’d get everyone killed. It’d be my fault.” She paused for a moment to slow down her breath. The last thing she wanted to do was to have a breakdown. Not after that.

And now, after all of that,” she looked back down at the revolver, “Nothin’ has changed,” she remembered that the small photo of both herself and Sasha in their outfits was in her rucksack. She had wanted to take it out to look at it, but she just knew that if she did, it would have upset her.

“Collette, where are they…?”

Why didn’ I convince that red-haired moron to stay? Doubt any of ‘em would give two shits if that happened. If he’s so clever, why the fuck would he leave me out of all people in charge? Ain’t like I’m any use. Fuckin’ people thinkin’ they know me. If they did, they’d use their fuckin’ brains more. I’ll be damned if I’m gonna have fuckin’ civilians tell me ‘bout fucking sacrifice and keepin’ people safe! What do I have? A nurse-but-also-not-a-nurse, a twitch-streamer-whatever-the-fuck-that is, a fuckin’ walkin’ meme, a pregnant woman, a kid and God knows what fuckin’ else and I’M the one who needs to step up!? I can at least shoot a fuckin’ weapon! All they got is a syringe and a paper mache sword!

Colt finally stopped, out of breath. She had not been shouting, but the speed in which she spoke had increased to an exhausting level. This was for Marcus’ ears only. She just stared blankly ahead before closing her eyes.

I was in the store. About a week ago.” she didn’t open her eyes. They hurt to look through, “Dunno what I was buyin’. Probably some canned shit, but anyway. There were a couple of youngin’s running about with those airsoft guns. Y’know the games where the youngins run around and shoot each other with bbs? Well. Their mum wasn’t watchin ‘em. Aren’t even allowed those damn things in public. While they were runnin’ ‘round and shootin’, one of ‘em missed the other. I got hit in the stomach.” she paused for a moment, her face creasing a little as she relieved that moment. The yowls from the kids, the screeching from the mother, the various remarks from the other patrons.

Fuckin’ lucky I caught myself. They just saw the handle of the Glock and ran to their momma. But, it got ugly.” she stopped again. Nothing had come out of it. The mother had called the cops but it was dropped as Colt had her permit and they concluded it was self-defence. One of the cops seemed to be a veteran himself so understood. But the knowledge that, if she had not caught herself at that moment, Lord knows what would have happened.

I jus’ don’ want to be looked at like that again.” She lamented, “Did so much and that’s what happens. All them people starin’ like I’m some kinda… thing! They didn’ know me. But they musta thought of me as just some idiot drunk with a gun. And now, they do too.” She glanced back towards the door which was still closed. She looked to Marcus, internally kicking herself for being so open. She opened her water bottle and took a long sip from it. If only she had some aspirin. She opened her nerve medication and took a few of them along with her water.

I dunno why I’m telling y’all this. I jus’ think… I’m scared.” she looked to the man, leaning away slightly, half expecting him to have a negative reaction. At this point, if he did, she was just going to accept it. What was the point?

Milly was happy to continue the jigsaw puzzle and when Ralph approached, looking to join in, Milly gave him some eager nods as she helped to finish it. As he talked about making puzzles with his grandmother, Milly blinked curiously. Made them? People could do that.

My mum and I would race doing jigsaws. We’d both get two which were one-hundred pieces and see who did… them…” she faltered as she remembered her mother. She went quiet for a while in thought. She had never been separated from her for this long. Ralph then left to talk to the older man, Ray who Milly had not properly met yet. And Marcus went to speak with Colt, who then went to sit outside. Seeing that she was alone, Milly squeaked and wrapped the blanket around herself further, just hoping the warmth from it could help her. She turned the finished jigsaw over onto its blank side and undid all the pieces. She liked doing jigsaws back to front. She just desperately wanted to avoid thinking about her mother.

She looked into the kitchen as she saw Shiona leaving and going back upstairs. Milly let out a couple of squeaks of worry. The expression on her face and the way she had been walking told Milly that she was in some kind of discomfort. The youngster squeaked anxiously. She got up from the sofa but did not follow the woman upstairs. But she was worried. With a worried whimper she gripped onto Snowy as she went into the kitchen. Leliana, Jenna and the man from the night before, Michael were all in the kitchen. Milly murmured something anxiously before going to Leliana. She wanted to tug her arm but she really did not want to.

I-Is Shiona okay? She looked sore.” she asked Leliana anxiously as she then nibbled on her bear’s ear. Even though she did not know the woman very well, she was still very anxious. She was very pregnant and Milly could not help but worry. Everything just felt so unstable.

Jenna: The Lodge

EA-007-800x800.jpg

It was only a matter of time before Jenna met a fan, even amongst all of this chaos. She had told them she would be in the city for the day after all and was sure one or two would drive for a few hours at the chance to meet her. She'd probably led a few to their violent deaths that way, and that would haunt her for the rest of her life.
She'd hoped that her stream meant those fans in the city had either gotten themselves out before the Fascist Hazmats closed it off or at the very least heeded her warnings and kept down.

"due to me watching your Stream I didn't go outside for the remainder of the day so…I guess you could say you kind off saved my life
It turned out, he was one of them. Her warnings had done some good after all for Michael had lived through the first day of the outbreak and wound up at the lodge.

She knew him better as Randy Beans 34, a follower that had been there for years. His name would pop up in the chats or appear to show he'd donated something from time to time. She'd given him a few shout-outs in the day, but never expected to stand face to face with him. Jenna had tried to come up with an image perhaps once or twice of what Randy would look like and Michael sort of fit the bill. She'd didn't expect him to carry a katana, but everything else seemed to add up.

She had a routine for meeting fans. Handshakes, hi-fives, hugs or all three followed by listening to their stories and expressing that she was grateful for them following her, for them listening to her. Selfies or other kinds of photos would usually follow. That was the standard, planned introduction. Things obviously didn't go that way all the time.
Some fans had been too touchy, some had been a bit rude and others had become emotional. There was a girl, someone else like her who Jenna had met while in Scotland and had broken down in tears at a meet and greet. It turned out that one of Jenna's streams had stopped her from taking her own life.
Needless to say, she didn't know how to handle it so just listened and hugged the girl tightly. Part of her didn't want to let go and neither girl knew what to say.

Last she heard, Abigail, better known as Cass19 on her streams was doing okay. She was far away from this outbreak anyway.

Although the circumstances were different, Jenna found herself speechless as something she had put up on the internet had saved the life of another human being. She just stared back at Michael, at Randy Beans 34.

"Why hello." Was all she could muster, managing to smile brightly "Yeah, yeah. I remember you. You've been following me for a while. Some of your donations helped to pay for my surgery."
She lightly chuckled "Holy shit." She whispered "I don't think this is how either of us expected to meet. People in suits trying to shoot us and the undead trying to turn us. Sounds like a game or five I've streamed."

Jenna looked behind Michael as Milly was in the room, now asking about the pregnant lady. That was a conversation Jenna did not want to have. She was wondering about how much the girl had heard of their conversation, but noticed her worry so brushed it aside.
"She finished helping me clean the dishes and went upstairs to lie down. She's..."
She visibly cringed, yet still smiled "Carrying a baby inside of her. But not for long. It'll come out soon and I'll be there to help her do it. The pain is a temporary thing as the baby wants to come out but isn't ready yet."

"A lot of girls go through it, but not all of them and even then it's when you're older that it can happen. We call it being pregnant and it's when you carry a baby around in your tummy for..."
She stood up and rested her hands on her own stomach, pushing her belly out
"A while. Normally it's nine months but it can be shorter or longer. A ton of animals do it too. When a dog or cat does it that's how you get puppies or kittens. They come out of their mother too."

"Yeah, you will. So long as you know not to use stiches for bullet wounds, and water for cleaning them, you can even help me or whatever, but..." she shrugged, turning her attention to Micheal. Leliana gave him a somewhat forced pity smile. "Uh...perferably, just call me Leliana okay?" She said, glancing over at Brian, giving him a nod. "Yeah. No problem." For the most part, she wasn't focusing on the conversation between Jenna and Micheal, since it was more important to get her list done. With Brian helping it would get done faster, however, Leliana would probably go throigh and redo everyone by herself at some point. Back at Moe's, she was always the one in charge of inventory because of how trough she was, and she was the one with the best penmanship. She only looked up when she heard Milly ask her question about Shinoa. Leliana had no problem answering, and was going to, until Jenna jumped in. Leliana had to contain the furrowing of her brows, waiting until shs was done, before answering. "Shinoa is gonna be fine Milly, she's in something called the third trimester, which is the last stage of pregancy. Being pregant means that you're growing a life, which causes a lot of discomfort since your organs are being moved around and your balance is messed up. Because of how far along she is, she could be having braxton hick contractions, which isn't real, but tells you that you're gonna be having a baby soon," Leliana explained. "And then when she's ready to have her baby, I'll help deliver...,"She paused breifly, "Her! Shinoa said it was a girl."

"And while Jenna isn't wrong, dogs and cats are different than human babies." Leliana would never voice these opinions out loud, but while vets were handy, but she also hated how the majority of them didn't actully seem to know what tehy were doing. Giving manicures to a kitten was different than fixing a dislocated kneecap. She shouldn't judge though, they went to school right? And look at Jenna now! She was a streamer or something? Leliana wasnt paying attention, but she couldn't help but overhear a few things. "Anyway, Shinoa will no doubt, let everyone know when real contractions start." Leliana pushed a few cans away from the journal, digging into the bag on the chair next to her, and she pulled out a bag of salt and vingear chips. Leliana couldnt help but chuckle, silently thanking Owen as she began to dig throigh thr bag to discover more bags of chips. She smiled, grabbing the one shs took out to open it. The chips inside were a little chrushed, but, it didnt change the fact she had her favorite chips. Shoveling a few chips in her mouth, she began counting the little bags of chips. "Milly, do you want to help me and Brian with the inventory?"

Owen watched as his cousin moved into action. With her at his back, he didn’t have much to worry about, he was quite impressed at how quickly she was able to move. Her injuries didn’t seem to hamper her as he watched her stab her knife into the zombie’s skull without hesitation. It took guts to be able to do that, guts that not even he possessed. It was hard not to see the humanity lurking behind each snarling face. However, it appeared that if Sarah had the same worries she was better at hiding them. She had also been smart enough to suggest letting then funnel in the corridor, which had been working brilliantly for the two of them so far. With only one or two monsters able to sneak in at a time, it wasn’t anything that the two of them couldn’t handle.

If he had spent his time paying attention instead of letting himself get caught up in his own feelings of grandeur, maybe he would have noticed before one of the zombies knocked Sarah down. His instinct was to call out to her, but that would only attract more unwanted attention. He moved to help her, but was unable to get past the liter of corpses they left in their wake before she was able to free herself. Now back on her feet, his cousin’s focus was on the overweight doctor that was walking toward her.

The narrow hallway was quickly becoming a c canal of blood, it stained the white walls mixing with yellow bile and pink brain matter. One still crawled along the floor, trying to get to Sarah’s legs. He readied himself to take it out, pulling the bat back but was momentarily distracted by the sound of the door opening behind him.

The few seconds of his attention that were sacrificed to looking toward the door was all it took for Sarah to dispatch the zombie trying to eat her and for the one on the ground to latch hold of her once more. For a moment, he was torn. Turning to help his cousin meant leaving his back to the last monster coming in through the door. He hadn’t gotten a good look at it and he wasn’t sure if he could free Sarah before the thing was on them both. However, dealing with the zombie behind him meant leaving Sarah to fend for herself, and there was no guarantee if she would free herself before getting hurt. As much as she had proved her own prowess against the monsters, he couldn’t risk her getting hurt.

It took very little to convince him to help the girl. He lifted his knee to his chest before letting all of his weight carry his boot down on top of the arms that had latched on to Sarah’s leg. Owen heard the bone crunch under the force, breaking in what sounded like multiple places. However, the pain of the arm snapping hardly phased the monster. The monster didn’t even let go, still gripping at Sarah’s leg in a feverish way.

Owen motioned to his companion to watch herself. It would be hard to strike the zombie in the cranium without also risking hitting her leg. The last thing he wanted was to injure the girl more and have to help her limp through the halls. The quicker they could get what they needed and get the fuck out of this mad house the better. Coming here was a mistake. He only hoped that whatever Sarah needed, and whatever medical supplies he could muster would be worth all this chaos. If they made it out of here alive at all. The likelihood of it was starting to seem slimmer by the second. They had barely made it inside the walls. How many more of the undead waited for them between here and their destination?

The male waited for a clear shot, but the monster was too close to Sarah. There was no way to swing his bat down without also hurting her in the process. With a frustrated groan, Owen dropped his bat, letting it clatter to the floor and echo through the halls. He could hear the zombie behind him approaching, groaning and sludging it’s way down the corridor. There wasn’t time to focus on that, to look back. He had to act, saving Sarah was all that mattered.

He thought of Andy. The idea of him dying in this place and leaving her all alone was absolutely crushing. It was possible that maybe he had gone too far this time. All the heroic gestures in the world wouldn’t bring him any closer to keeping her safe. He had left her with a bunch of strangers, and Luca. He wasn’t sure which of those prospects was worse. There wasn’t time to focus on that either, he had to stay here and hopefully live long enough to take this lesson to heart.

Owen slipped his hands around the man’s head, one masculine hand finding its spot under it’s clamping jaws and the other grabbing a fist full of the monster’s hair. He had saw what happened if you didn’t shoot for the head, aim for the head. Nothing was going to stop this guy unless the damage was severe. Snapping someone’s neck wasn’t something he was practiced at, in fact the closest thing to experience he had was watching movies. Owen was surprised how easy it was. With one large tug he felt the spine snap in his hands, and felt the monster go limp under him. His clawing ceasing, and releasing Sarah.

Wordlessly, Owen grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her to her feet. There wasn’t time to check on her, he whipped around in time to come face to face with the monster that had been making his way toward him. It was the face of a young woman, rounded chin and milky eyes, her full lips pulled back in a snarl, showing the gore covered teeth inside. Once she might have been pretty, but now her face was void of life or color, the teeth marks in her neck oozed green and yellow slime down her collarbone and into her cleavage. She lunged at him, ravenous and mindless. There was only one thing that mattered to her now.

Owen was without his bat, and such without any weapon he was comfortable using with Sarah so close. He still had Colt’s handgun but there were various reasons why he couldn’t use it. The noise would be too much with the number of undead crawling around the halls. He didn’t know how to use it properly and was just as likely to hit Sarah with a ricochet bullet as he was to do any damage to the monster and lastly, his hand were too busy keeping her face away from him.

She gnawed and reached for him, but Owen’s long arms kept her at bay. One strong hand on her forehead, the other holding her hands above her head. For someone so small, he was astonished at how strong she was. In fact, if she wasn’t undead and trying to eat him he would even say it was impossible. He was out of options and wasn’t sure how long he could keep the woman from him.

The male let out an adrenaline filled yell and used all of his weight to shove her against the nearest wall. Letting go of her hands, he let both hands go to the curls of blonde hair that spilled over her blood crusted shoulders. With as much force as he could muster, Owen slammed the back of the woman’s head into the wall. It wasn’t enough, she still kept coming at him. His hands moved to her neck, large muscular things wrapping easily around her slender and gentle throat. It oozed infected fluids over his knuckles as he did so, her wound seemed to breathe and with every exhale it spilled coagulated blood and bile.

Something primal came out as he slammed the back of her head into the concrete wall. Blood splattering his face and jacket. The white of the fur of his collar was long stained hues of red and pink. Each time he slammed her skull into the wall, he grunted with the increase of strength. Over and over again her skull hit the wall until it splintered, shards of bone flying from the gorey mess he left behind.

Slowly, he released her throat. The body slumped down the wall leaving a red trail of carnage down the white brickwork. Owen huffed, catching his breath as he looked down at his crimson covered trembling hands. The sight of the woman slumped over made his stomach turn. She looked almost human now, eyes closed. Her white uniform was streaked with blood, her blonde hair soaked through with the new blood of her brain trauma. Owen backed away from her slowly, hands shaking widly as he wiped them on his pants. He looked over at his cousin, both of them standing in a corridor heaped with bodies.

“You okay?” His voice was almost a whisper as he tried to regain his composure, steel his nerves. That had been too close for comfort. Sarah could have gotten really hurt, or worse. And for what? What was so important?

“Lead the way. The sooner we get the fuck out of here the better.”

Cool Text - Purshottama Devarukhkar 315125795920092.png
A man made his way through the woods, without a proper path to wander on. For the past three days he had been camping out just outside of Aurora. One of the few survivors who had not been at the middle school on that fateful day, Purshotamma and a few of his friends had made the decision to go camping a few days prior to the middle school massacre. They had kept up on the news and even extended their trip in hopes that everything would blow over. Of course, that time never came. Unfortunately for the man from India, it was the start to his worst nightmare.

He should have stayed home. With his ma and pita, life was simple.

Such horrible luck he had! Since he had signed his contract to become an international rap star, the man had experienced little else but troubling times. On the second day in on their camping trip, their site was ransacked while Purshy and his friends were out hunting. All of their food, sleeping bags, tents were taken! Upon getting back and realizing all their stuff was taken, one of the guys decided that it was time to go home. Though Purshy had pleaded with him to wait it out for a few more days and to find some help, he decided it was best to go his own way and separated from the group. He had not come back since. Purshotamma hoped he was not dead.

The one friend that was loyal to Purshy eventually lost his life during their travels when he tripped over a rock while running from a group of the zombies. He had sprained his ankle in the process and was eventually completely overrun by the mob. This, in turn, saved Purshotamma. While the zombies were busy feasting he was able to make his escape, but not without a heavy cost. Now he was alone and without one of his closest friends.

Chunder Patanjali Chakarvarti was a great man. He and Purshy had known each other since they were young boys. The two used to go to the park every day after getting their chores done to play soccer. Of course, the game was played on a lot completely covered with sand. The soccer ball was a tin can and the two goals were usually just sticks laid out in the shape of a box. However, those were good times. Chunder was a lot bigger than he was physically, so usually when Purshy would get picked on because of his unusually small size the man would step in to protect his friend. Throughout the years as Purshy developed into a rap star, Chunder was in the background hyping him up and making sure no one got in his way. His path was destined for greatness.

But it had been so long since Purshotamma had eaten. Almost two days.

Within a few hours, the snow began to fall. It started with a few flakes. When it was still populated, the illuminated night sky of the city provided only artificial light. Out in the sticks, where there was more land than people or concrete, the night sky kept itself brightly illuminated. On this night, however, the moon hid behind the cover of the clouds. The wind danced violently through the trees around the lodge, providing whistles and whipping sounds as the flurry of snow grew evermore violent. It had accumulated to the point where the ground was no longer visible. Instead, a sheet of white provided a true winterscape. The trees, grass, gravel, flowers - hell, the air itself all fell victim to fog and ice particles that were precipitated from the atmosphere.

In the distance was a lodge. It’s lights were on, signifying that people were inside. Maybe they were still alive! Oh, how Purshotamma would kill for a good meal. A shower, some water would definitely help. He needed to lie down in a warm bed and cuddle with the sheets. It would undoubtedly help with the fever he had developed two hours ago, something he recognized as a result of his forehead and sweating. Despite the cold, snowy weather his palms were still clammy. The man was completely fatigued, but that was to be expected. All he needed to do was make it up to that door. His feet tracked through the snow and eventually they led him to the back porch. Then, Purshotamma collapsed face-first outside of the lodge. The exhaustion had finally gotten to him.

A few minutes passed. He stirred, before pushing himself up to his feet. Purshy took a couple of small, yet slow steps toward the back door before he lifted his hands to grab the handle to the sliding door of the back. He jiggled it around, but it did not budge. So, he started jiggling it harder. The result was the same. In frustration, he let out a rather loud yell. He let go of the door handle and brought one of his arms back, the fabric of his sweatshirt moving up his arm past the bite a zombie had left on him hours prior.

The arm slammed through the back door of the lodge, completely obliterating a portion of the glass. Then the zombie’s other arm slammed through the part of the sliding door that was still remaining. Once it had been completely shattered, the reanimated form of the deceased Purshotamma stepped over the broken glass and slowly made his way into the lodge. It had heard the sounds of humans from outside and it was ready to feast. Behind him, in the fog of the blizzard, was an unclear number of zombies who had heard it’s yells and groans. They too were following the noise, ready to feast on whomever got in their way.
