I think it'd be a subconscious defense mechanism to grapple with the thought of someone so unbelievably powerful. Most people in the new world aren't wizards and even among the ones that are, an actual understanding of magic is generally limited to at most 3rd level spells.

It's a good situation for someone to masquerade their special abilities as merely a type of magic not yet understood by new worlders at large, since magic is so poorly understood already that there'd be reasonable benefit of the doubt and believability given to RD when she says that she's a high tier self-buffing mage.

Even a mage as strong as Fluder Paradyne, who is considered to be the strongest of all human wizards, can only cast up to 6th level magic.
I just realized you could pass it off as Martial Arts as your character's skills are pretty close to them, though mostly to an untrained or weak user. Could make it like somebody mentions them and she just rolls with it before learning they are an actual thing in NW

Then you end up with the misconception that you are some Martial art Master hermit who only just returned to society

Poor souls. Even Blackjack's gun in normal mode may look like magic to them.

Reminds me of one of the Arcs of Snarfquest.

Ainz's original explanation to the Carne Villagers was that he was a wizard who had been huddled away in his study for a long time and had no knowledge of the modern world. It'd be an interesting parallel.

I don't know whether it would jive really well with her search to learn martial arts, or if it would actively conflict with the character arc.

Also, by YGG standards, pretty much every user of martial arts is rather weak. Even Antilene, one of the strongest characters we know of that uses them, is pretty pathetic.

Antilene is actually a pretty powerful character. That being said, her strength does indeed not come from martial arts.

A lot of manhwa have serious power-scaling and hax issues that make it hard for me to enjoy the stories. Overlord and One Punch Man are the only eastern fiction I've read that get that stuff right, but both of those are Japanese manga.

Yeah, manhwa get absolutely ridiculous with the power-scaling to the point it's absolutely more absurd than a number of bad isekais. Plus you'll almost always find at least one version of it whether it's an isekai type or involves a fantasy world

Eh, Yongbi and Gosu are great. The main characters are very powerful from the get-go but more comparable to how Mob is rather than Saitama, in the sense that there still are people against which they struggle even if they go all-out.

Honestly, any manhwa that have their protags struggle at times are somewhat interesting cause there's at least some challenge or thought put into them

I was more referring to stuff like "God Of Highschool" and "Solo Levelling."

Stuff where the characters are insanely powerful but there's nothing interesting done with it.

Japan isn't immune to it either. Stuff like Medaka Box exists, which is notorious for having one of the cleanest-cut examples of a character with Complete Arsenal.

Nothing like having a world with an already established strength system and sterotypical arrogant people only to create a world ending threat nobody but the main protag can stop because reasons within the middle or late early half

Overlord is sort of like that, except there is no main protag to save the day/the protag is the world ending threat.

Then again, the arrogant characters generally get their comeuppance. And rather brutally so in many cases.

It's a lot more complex, and a lot more well written.

In defense of Medaka Box, the author creates series which are more of a clash of philosophies and ways of life than fights, as seen with his other works. The action and power levels are just secondary. Medaka, for example, was on the verge of being mentally broken by Kumagawa when she was younger. Despite all her power.

God of Highschool started well then it went down the drain latter on.

I didn't read Solo Leveling yet, but I heard it's the epitome of power fantasy.

Secondary or not, having a character who snidely calls out the audience and is aware they're in a manga like Najimi Ajimu is hard to do right. And they just feel a little too Mary-Sue-Ish for my taste.

It's mainly Ajimu that I have a problem with.

Same reason I don't like Meta SCP articles. It feels like you're attacking the viewer, and it's a pathetic appeal to how the character is "oh so powerful."

I read stuff to envision myself and escape a reality I hate, not to be reminded that I'm reading something that thinks it's being clever.

I'll give solo levelling this, the power fantasy/op part doesnt begin until later, so it's...somewhat better. It does get somewhat pretty typical from there

And she also gets defeated/killed by a rubber band. Lol. That was wierd.

I didn't get that far in the manga. I kind of dropped it after Ajimu first showed up.

Anyway, back on topic. It's a little bit unfortunate that New World Martial Arts have the same generalized name as RD's fight Styles. How do you think we can easily differentiate the two in conversation?

Something that I observed in the anime and ln (don't remember if the manga as well), is that some warriors don't just shout their martial art move name. They also shout "Martial Art" followed by the move name.

I see.

RD shouting out the names of her attacks is something she'd do, but she loves pendantery, so I assume she'd probably preface all of the NW martial arts she learns with the words "Martial Arts:"
