Cassidy was staring blankly at Adrian- not understanding the war reference. "But... War... Which one?" He didn't understand who he looked like, possibly because America had gone to war countless times. And he couldn't recall which war they were in currently. "What.. Middle East?" He guessed, thinking specifically about the 21st century. "...I don't even know what a Middle Eastern-er looks li-" He stared down at his hand that was being held, and observed the much darker color of it in comparison to Adrian's. Then he looked around the restaurant, and then his hands again, "I'm darker than you guys- I didn't think that would be an issue... In the 21st century." With a grimace he continued eating, looking beyond offended. Glaring at his meal, shaking visibly, he let out a rough sigh. The murmuring was still going on, and his face became hot and red, as he stared down at his hands. Suddenly he snapped, and turned his face towards the rest of the room, "You should all be f*cking ashamed of yourselves. I'm not from the Middle East, or anywhere near there. And you'll see where fearing love will get you- because your God isn't real, you dumb ass*s."

With a growl he stood, grabbing his bottle of cider and finishing it off, "We don't need to grace primitive minds with our presence, Ade, let's go." He stormed out, forgetting they had to pay a bill here. He didn't realize this, after he got outside, and was leaning against the wall, fuming, when he realized Adrian was still inside. Probably taking care of exactly that.

As Cas spoke, he winced, knowing that the mention of God would only rile the crowd into confirming their racist beliefs about him. As he left, someone began to sarcastically clap and little cheers rang out here and there. Adrian rubbed the bridge of his nose, seething with embarrassment. The waitress re-appeared at the table moments later, giving a nervous smile, “Is…everything alright, sir? How did you find your entrée…?”

“No – this has all been horrible, thank you.” He huffed, standing up and pulling 10 dollar bills out from his wallet, slamming them on the table as he counted them. “Keep the change.” He hissed, grabbing his coat and walking towards the exit to find Cas. He barged past a couple next to the door, and tripped over an exposed table leg, stumbling out against the doorframe and struggling to stay composed. “Watch it, I'm uncultured.” The guy standing there sneered, and the lady stood with him giggled hideously loud, “I guess male escorts are better on their knees than on their feet…”

Ade snapped around, gripping the handle of the door tightly as his knuckles whitened. “You know what? We shouldn’t have to put up with this shit, more than any other couple should.” He began to raise his voice, and he leaned over to the guy and his lady friend, practically spitting with anger.

“And - I’m a Doctor, goddamnit, and let me tell you- let me tell you…when we’re trying our best to make sure your daughter or your mother or your wife or your sorry ass pulls through, I seriously doubt you give a flying f*ck about who I’m dating, so you can go…shove it up your asses, you…xenophobic, homophobic…sacks of shit!” He slammed the door furiously behind him, fighting to ignore the sarcastic little OooOoh’s that came in retaliation. He shot a glance at Cassidy, leaning against the wall, and muttered “Come on, Cas,” to him, biting back frustrated tears as he marched away from the restaurant.

Cas could hear the outraged yelling of Adrian from outside, but he let his head droop a bit. The only reasons why this was happening was because he was dark skinned, and a guy. He didn't know the extent of the hostility, but it seemed like the entire room had hated him- and they didn't even know him!

With a sigh he looked up at Adrian, whispering an apology. "..Sorry..." He paused, recalling the vey beginning of the situation, "Why did she call me.. A rag head, and a terrorist?" Ultimately he was still confused over the terminology, and had only made the connection of looks because everyone else hostile was white. "I really look like I'm from the Middle East? What do they call my race... Arabic?" Shuffling along the walk towards the beach, Cassidy was letting his head droop, disappointed in the fact he was living in a hostile time for two aspects of himself, and this was only the second time in public- it was already causing problems for Adrian.

Adrian was still seething, shaking his head and pulling Cassidy close by his shoulder defensively, even though there wasn't anyone hostile waiting for them outside. "It's fine, Cassidy. You didn't do anything wrong. If anything, I'm sorry, for letting it get like that. I felt like slapping that stupid hysterical woman for calling you those names." He breathed, turning the corner, "It doesn't matter what race you are - her attitude was disgusting. It pisses me off that anyone has the nerve to treat someone like that in public - in this day and age."

He took a deep breath and sighed, turning to look at the dejected lieutenant and noticing his dipped head. He turned and kissed the top of it, squeezing him close. "Seriously, don't worry about it. I honestly couldn't care less about what they think of you, and I'm certainly not going to let ignorant idiots ruin our day together." He sniffed.

By the time they reached the sedate shopping district close to the beach, it was mid-afternoon and Ade had calmed down sufficiently. He nudged Cassidy towards a clothes store, his hand entwined around his lover's. "Did you still want to look at the clothes? Remember you're going to meet Gus tonight." He said with a weak smile.

Cassidy smiled at the reassurance, nodding along in appreciation, but was still ultimately confused over the situation. He didn't understand a lot of elements of America, or Earth in general. Human beings in his time didn't discriminate by race, gender, or sexuality. It was so uncommon to hear of such things- he couldn't even name a place. Alien races were the issue now- there would always be minorities of course, but it was an inter-universal law laid down by the administration of time and space that it was illegal to discriminate or repress any race. It was taken all too seriously in light of the thousands of genocides in the universes' history.

At the question he nodded, "Sure, that would be real nice." Cas squeezed Adrian's hand, grinning, "Gotta look nice for some hardcore mischief making." With a chuckle he looked around at all the shop fronts, "If you need anything in the house I can get it, by the way, like hygiene care goods, clothes for you, anything really- I have a lot of money, Ade. Not spending it really causes it to add up."

Ade shook his head, "No no no - no mischief making. Gus is a serious guy. He wouldn't be impressed if you pranked him or his little brother." He lied, knowing full well that if anything Gus would be the mastermind behind any kind of pranking, with Ade almost always being his dedicated victim. He cringed at the thought of being under the same roof of Gus and Cas, totally at their mercy.

He took Cassidy inside a clothes store, walking around with him, and pointing out things he might like, but not before mockingly pointing out the children's section. He shrugged at his suggestion, "Yeah. It would help, I guess - so long as your alien disinfectant doesn't melt my countertop or anything. But aside from that... There's not really a lot you can spend it on. I've got enough clothes, I can just about afford my rent and with you buying half the food you're helping out enough already. Save it for your voffys and your space veggies," he said, poking Cas' cheek.

Cassidy snorted so loudly he had to cover his mouth, giggling, "The guy- the one you said pulled that prank on you at the airport.. Is a serious guy?" Cas started laughing, shaking his head, "When I see it, I'll believe it, Ade."

Following Adrian into the store, looking around the colorful displays and many items. He elbowed him in the ribs with a 'hey!' at the child joke, and made a 'pfft' noise, rolling his eyes. "You into that, or something, Ade~?" He teased, walking away towards a display of regular t-shirts that were fairly cheap, "I don't have much I like to wear.. Just t-shirts and pants that are easy to move around in."

Ade tugged at the sleeve of his shirt, " I know... you've been wearing that orange thing for two days now, Cas." He muttered. He frowned at the cheaper clothes, taking a fitted shirt off a nearby rack and handing it to Cassidy. "Try this, you'll look good in it." he said, grabbing some black pants and shoving them in his arms as well.

"I mean, you can't wear Khakis all the time," he said with a grin. He'd only ever seen Cassidy dressed up in the official photos of him in his uniform, and so was interested to see what he'd look like in something a little more smart-casual. He pushed Cas off towards the changing rooms, leisurely browsing the clothing racks outside as he waited for him to remerge.

Cassidy lifted his brows, "These are like dress clothes- not very easy to move in.." He shrugged, letting out a slight protest as he was pushed towards the dressing rooms. He entered one, looking around the tiny area with a sigh, calling out, "As long as I can have casual clothes like my old ones too, please!"

Minutes later he emerged in the new clothes, a light green shirt and black pants. He looked like he was about to go to the office, and he didn't quite like the tighter feeling of the clothes, but they were surprisingly neat. He wore dress uniforms often, and knew how to tuck in shirts and such well, no duck tails or strange ripples in the tucking were in sight. Walking up to Ade, he grinned, "You into this, or something?"

Adrian looked up from the rack, an array of more casual clothes bundled onto one arm. He struggled to fight to control any indication that he was into the more formal clothes Cassidy was now wearing, not content in giving him the satisfaction he held in his smug little face. He curved his mouth into a frown as Cas approached, raising an unsure eyebrow.

“Hmm. Just turn around for a sec.” He said, motioning with his free hand. A tiny smile spread across his face as Cassidy complied, turning to face the wall as Adrian looked him up and down. He took a few moments to admire how the fit of the new shirt complimented Cas’ build, sitting neatly on his shoulders and framing some of his more prominent muscles, while still leaving some features to the imagination. He glanced down for a second at his rear also, raising his eyebrows approvingly at how well the black material curved around his buttocks…

As Cas’ eyes turned back to face him, he flicked back to a frown, shrugging. “Yeah, I guess they’ll do.” He said, handing Cas the bundle of casual clothes he’d picked out for him – they were more or less what he usually wore, minus the alien motifs. “Here, find some you like out of these.” He said, hiding a satisfied grin as Cas walked back over to the changing rooms.

Cassidy caught his eyes again, and thought he saw the flash from admiration to the frown, but said nothing- only a bit confused. He took the clothes with a glance up and down Adrian, scrutinizing him, as he turned back around to the dressing rooms.

He emerged nearly ten minutes later with only half the pile, purposely leaving the dress clothes in the room. Giving a 'hmm' he held out his arm, "Here we go. Two long sleeves, three t-shirts. What do you prefer.. these or.. the dress clothes?" He always seemed to wear the same colors. Blues, greens, reds, and oranges. Never anything else. He hated yellow, and purple wasn't his favorite either. But greens were definitely his favorite. He pulled a pair of jeans off the rack, and narrowed his eyes at the pants, then looked around at the crowd in the shop. "Everyone wears these... But what are these?"

Ade frowned at the first question, secretly annoyed that he’d deliberately left the other clothes in the changing rooms, in favour of the plainer, loosely fitting casual clothes. He took what Cas had chosen, mentally calculating the cost as he read the tags and folded them neatly into a shopping basket. He answered the second question simply as he did so, “They’re jeans. They’re just pants made out of material called denim. Comfy and cheap. Try them on.” He said, taking an excuse to push him back towards the dressing rooms for a final time. “And bring the dress clothes with you when you come back,” He ordered, “-you uh, never know when they might come in handy.” He added hastily afterwards.

Cassidy noticed Adrian's annoyance instantly, and wore an evil grin. He skipped off to the dressing room, chuckling in a dark tone as he carried the jeans off. Emerging moments later, he showed them off, "Eh- they aren't too bad. Prefer my cargoes, but these are fine.. If this is what Earthling's wear to be casual." He held out the dress clothes, whispering, "I know you're into them, Ade..."

Once he had found a sufficient amount of clothes, and they had checked out, Cas offered to carry the bags for Adrian- not wanting him to pay as well as carry the load. "Thank you.." He said graciously, giving Adrian a tight squeeze of a hug, "Now I can be a true... Earthling." Chuckling at the terminology, he grinned up at Adrian, "Earthling~ It's so fun to say. It's like I'm whatever you guys think live on that red planet... Mars. Like I'm a martian~"

“No problem.” Ade said, squeezing him back and nuzzling him slightly. “You are a Martian….or at least…a…Gliesian? What do they even call people from your planet…?” He muttered, fluffing his dark hair. They paced along the seafront for a little while, chatting to each other about the many different alien races and species that lived in Cas’ time, a few people doing a double-take at the weird words coming out of Cassidy’s mouth.

As they neared the end of the pier, Adrian reluctantly looked at his watch, frowning at the time. “Hmm, we should probably get back soon. Gus didn’t say when he was coming, but I’d like to tidy up the apartment before he gets there. And we’re probably going to need to stock up on cider on the way back.” He smiled, “D’you mind if we have take-out tonight? I don’t really feel like cooking,” He yawned, stretching out behind Cas as they turned to walk back to high-rise parking lot. He hoped Cas would agree - it would save him an awkward conversation with Gus about the weird alien sauces and vegetables stuffed into the cupboards back at the apartment.

Cassidy snorted, "Yes, I suppose that would be the correct terminology: Gliesian..." With a grin he ducked at the ruffle of his hair, nodding a the proposal, but laughing at the reason why he made it, "Tidy.. up?" He chuckled violently, "Your home is tidy, Ade!" With a nod he agreed to the take-out, "What kind of take-out? Your favorite?"

As they were walking, he pointed at the patch of beach that was coming into view. Jogging off towards it, he excitedly yelled, "C'mon, Ade~" He ran until he was at the water's edge, the sand moving beneath his feet like putty. He dropped the bags so they were safely out of the waves' way, and leaned down to poke the incoming rush of water. "Wow, a new ocean.." He breathed, standing and admiring the view of the far off horizon, and a few boats on the line where the sky and water meet.

Ade shrugged, “I don’t mind. I guess Gus will want something from the curry house, but it’s up to you if you want to try that. If not, I can always get pizza for you again. ”

Ade watched as Cas ran out over the beach, casting a worried look over the bags of clothes he’d left in his wake. “You’re so childish.” He chuckled. He stood at the side where the sand met the concrete, shuffling his feet and frowning. “I hate sand.” He mumbled, half to himself. He stretched a foot out and begrudgingly stepped out, treading carefully towards the lieutenant, desperately trying to avoid getting any in his shoes or on his clothes. He stood a ways from Cas, next to the bags, cocking an eyebrow at him as he took in the scene. “Enjoying yourself, dear?” He said, gathering them up in his arms, peeking inside to check his new favourites didn’t have any sand on them.

Cassidy agreed to try the curry with a nod, "Of course I will try it- I've enjoyed everything so far."

He knelt by the water, tracing his fingers across the incoming waves, watching it recede away from him as he grinned, "Why do big bodies of water move like this? It's incredible how the tides change and its waves flow..." He turned to see Adrian behind him, waving him over, "Aw, put those down- come here with me! Don't you enjoy oceans? This one is more gray than blue or green, but it's great regardless.. Thank you for bringing me." He was sincere, but eyed Adrian as a flash of mischief jolted him, and he seemed ready to play or something.

Ade sniffed, lowering the bags and placing them in a safe place. “I don’t really like beaches. The sand gets everywhere.” He edged forward towards Cassidy, wary of the water moving forward and back, making careful steps in the sand to avoid kicking any up into his shoes. Eventually he stood behind his love, circling his arms around his waist and nuzzling his neck. “Did you enjoy today…? I know it’s been a bit…up and down, but I mean, none of it’s your fault.” He kissed him gently, casting his eyes out to the receding tide, unaware of the mischievous glint in his lover’s eye that he should really be expecting by now. “I’ve really enjoyed spending time with you today, Cassidy.”

Cassidy sniffed, "Sand is not that bad. Try swamps. Those are bad..." With a giggle he leaned backwards into his love's arms, tilting his head to the side so Adrian had better access to his neck. "Of course I enjoyed today.." Turning his head to the side, and back a bit, he rubbed his nose against Ade's, giving him an affectionate Eskimo kiss. Although the affection was plagued with his mischievous disposition...

Cassidy lowered his eyes, turning round with a soft smile, "I have enjoyed today very, very much too.." With a pause, the old mischievous grin rose to his lips, and he fought a snicker, "Today is only lacking in one regard..." His voice rose higher in pitch as he neared his point, and tightened his grip on Adrian's arms, "You haven't taken a bath today, Ade!"

With a tug, he lifted Adrian with impressive strength, off his feet. Mere seconds passed before Adrian ended up in a couple feet of water, splashing into the gray waves back first. Cas had lifted and dragged him rapidly to the incoming tide, and pushed him with a lift backwards so he fell. Cassidy was belting out half-hearty laughter, and half-flirtatious giggles as he watched the flailing of his partner. "You look like a turtle, but you definitely are not a sea turtle!" Cas tilted his head back, unable to control his mischievous joy, and he shook in his hilarity, arms caressing himself as he tried to regain his composure. But once he did catch his breath, all he did was stick out his tongue, peddle back a few steps, before halting again because of his uncontrollable laughter resumption.

“Bath…? Shit, no, Cas-!” Ade protested, squirming in his love’s grip as he was dragged out into the water. He gasped loudly as he was thrown backwards, and flailed madly as he tried to regain his balance. “Oh, come on!” Adrian spat out a mouthful of salty water, his eyes narrowed as he saw the other laughing uncontrollably, standing knee-deep in the sea as his face was carved with familiar mischief. He threw his arm against the surface of the water to splash in his direction, and was met with the other’s tongue as he stuck it out jovially and continued to laugh at him.

Oh…we’re playing that game, are we?” Ade whispered under his breath. He trudged forward through the water towards Cassidy, masking his amusement with a look of dismay and annoyance. He tugged as his shirt, “Look, what you’ve done, Cas! I’m soaked through!” As he got close enough, he suddenly lunged for the Lieutenant, wrapping himself around the other’s arms and chest. He wrestled him into the cold water, giggling like a child as he struggled to keep his grip on him. He broke free, and Ade sprinted across the sand after Cas as he ran away, growling with his arms outstretched “C’mere, you!”

As Cas was wrestled down into the gray water, he screeched in shock at the cold temperature of the ocean. He struggled and writhed out of Adrian's grip, and bounded away across the sand, his clothes now soaked through. "A-zaa, Helmi, that was freezing!" Turning so he was hopping away backwards, he waved at Adrian with a cheeky grin, "As if I'll do that!

Cassidy bobbed around in a circle, hopping backwards and avoiding Adrian's attempts to catch him. The Lieutenant circled around the beach, snickering as he watched the water-soaked Adrian chasing him around. "I think we're done with this place!" Calling the words, he hopped around so he was running facing forward, and sprinted towards the sidewalk ahead. "Don't forget the bags~"

Adrian eventually slowed down to a stop, panting exaggeratedly, his hands on his knees. He turned behind him, frowning as he walked back to pick up the bags and holding them at arms length to avoid getting the expensive clothes wet. He eventually got back to the sidewalk, greeted by the grinning Lieutenant, who was wandering in the vague direction of the parking lot.

“You should change as soon as you get in the car. I don’t want you catching a cold.” Ade shivered as he walked along, the sodden clothes clinging to his chest as he walked beside his love. “Although I suppose the Big Lieutenant can handle a few wet clothes, hmm?” He said mockingly, nudging him with his elbow.

When they eventually got back to the car, Adrian opened the trunk, laying the bags of clothes to one side and pulling out a blanket. He lay it carefully on the driver’s seat to stop it from getting wet from his clothes, before slamming the trunk shut and scooping up the bags. He placed them on the passenger seat, frowning at his companion, who was still damp. “At least change your pants or something. I don’t want you to stink out my car with the sea smell.” He said, easing himself into the driver’s seat and squirming in the discomfort of having to drive home in wet clothes. “If I have sand in my pockets you’ll be sorry, tattie,” He murmured, pushing a hand through his frizzy hair.

Cassidy smirked, "All you want is to see me," He waved a hand towards his hips and shook them, "Naked." He skipped towards the passenger's side, and called back, "Or in those fancy clothes, the ones that have you drooling over me!" Several people on the sidewalk in the distance stopped, and stared at the loud and bold Cas, as he shook his head like a dog, to free any lose droplets of water from his dark hair.

Cas leaned towards Adrian with a grin, taking a bag from his hand, and pecking his cheek, "You're going to make me sorry? Ooh, la la~" Sliding away he sunk into the passenger seat, rifling through the bag for the new cargoes. He shut the door, and slid out of his soaked pants, sliding the new ones on in a timely fashion, as Adrian slid into the driver's seat. "I do not apologize for my antics. That alone wins me my dignity." With a dark chuckle he leaned towards Adrian's side of the car, pointed nose entering the air space of his face, teasing, "Well, that is, unless you manage to revoke that."

“Drooling over you? In your dreams, Cassidy.” Ade tried to conceal a smirk by biting his lip, “There’s nothing wrong with you dressing properly for a change, that’s all. I want you to wear those tonight, by the way.” He avoided the temptation to look at him as he changed, turning the key in the engine to start it.

He only turned his eyes towards the other as he leaned in, frowning with an eyebrow cocked as he spoke. “Mhmm. I’m sure I will, at some point.” He murmured, a smile gracing his mouth as he turned his head to the side, meeting Cassidy’s lips for a short while. “…When you least expect it, too.” Ade shifted back in his seat, poking Cassidy in the ribs with one hand as he began to set the car into gear. “Put your seatbelt on. I wanna get home in time to have a shower before Gus shows up.” They sped out of the parking lot at some speed, having been so wrapped in the day’s events he’d almost completely forgotten about his brother coming over to stay.

Upon arriving back at the apartment complex, Cassidy was shivering. The Lieutenant's hair was soaked, matted on his forehead and neck. He was not used to the chilly Bostonian climate, and commented, "As a Lieutenant, I have not been put on many exploration missions lately. Or at least ones I did not have a choice in." He was wearing only his orange t-shirt, lacking a jacket to shield him from the cool wind. The Lieutenant followed Adrian up to the apartment, starting the story.

"I haven't been in a cold place since I was..." Counting on his fingers, he estimated the years, "Since I was twenty." He shuddered visibly, "We went to an ice planet, and it was awful. A-zaaa, so awful." He stuck out his tongue in disgust, closing his eyes as he imagined the landscape, "There were no plants. Anywhere. Lots of mountains though."

"There was five feet of heavy snow, and the ground underneath was a sheet of ice. We dug pits in the snow, and sat in the hole for warmth at night." With a pause he sighed, "We were there to rescue a large number of captives, kidnapped by a group of galactic... How do I put this... They were nut jobs who hated their solar systems governing body, and wanted to show how powerless the governing body was." Anyway, they were broadcasting their terms from some cave out in the middle of no-space. A-zaa, f*cking radical groups." Cas entered the apartment with Adrian, the final piece of the story shooting into his mind.

With a visible pang of disgust on his face, he lowered his eyes, "We got there and they had already murdered all the civilians, because they knew the governing body was taking too long to agree or disagree. They knew something was up."

They were standing in the apartment now, Cas shivering with his eyes lowered to the floor. "A-Ade, gimme one of t-those things. The-The c-cig... Cig..." He furrowed his brow, waving his hand blindly as he kept his eyes clamped shut, head pointed at the floor below.
