Well I'm about half way into the match right now. 2nd part, 14 minutes left. Nobody has scored. I have seen a bunch of players sent to the penalty box, and a lot slammed into a wall.

I still don't really understand what's going on, and can't always follow the puck but... It's cool to watch. The player are obviously all skilled, and also way more aggressive and full-contact than im used to.
Honestly as a skating fan I am having a lot of fun just watching the players move, seeing them glide, weave, and or fail to stop and crash into eacthoher (and usually the wall). XD

Yea those rivalry games get testy as hell. Those teams DO NOT like each other.

Also yea one of the hardest things about being new to watching hockey is following the puck. For that, I can't give you any advice. It's just knowing the sport at that point, take a while to get it down. Even for someone like me who watches an unhealthy amount of hockey sometimes it's even hard for me!

Oooof. Just watched one of the Rangers get just slammed to the ground real hard. Players basically locked sticks with other in a pure contest of strength.

But yeah in this match the second period is nearly over and nobody has scored yet. Islanders have blocked 16 shots MAKE THAT 17!!!

Something I didn't ever think about before watching this was the amount I'm watching them curve the puck around the outside wall. Didn't even think of that being an option, cus in most sports it'd fall out of bounds.

Oh yea and not to mention blocking shots. Blocking shots as a player/skater HURTS because you're putting your body in front of a 90+ mph flying puck. That's why you see a lot of them hobble off the ice once their shift is done after blocking a shot. They risk their bodies to prevent a scoring opportunity.

What is a hockey puck made of? Is it like a plasticy thing? Guess I could just google that. I mean at those speeds any solid object, even a rubber bouncy ball and still leave a mark!!
It's seriously impressive even with all that gear.

1.5 seconds, left gloves came off and the refs had to come into the ice and split the players up. Looking like they wanted to go just have a beatdown!!

The refs always try to split them up but it rarely amounts to anything, ESPECIALLY during Isles vs Rags rivalry games.

Islanders scored. Hell yeah! All tied up!

And huh did the teams swap swides of the Ice between rounds, or am I just seeing a different camera view?

Brock Nelson goal I think was the first one of that game. Love that guy. Still plays for the Isles today and is currently our leading goal scorer.

Another score for the islanders during the power play, whatever that means!
Power play means the Rangers took a penalty and one of their players was sent to the penalty box, so it was probably a 5 on 4, 5 Islanders, 4 Rangers, the Rangers being punished for 2 minutes by only having 4 guys on the ice compared to the Islanders' 5 guys.

Aaaaahhhh okay. Last time I saw players getting sent off, players from both teams did so I guess I never noticed.

No I think during that scoring you were right, 5 Islanders, to 4 Rangers. Just a lot of people have been sent off during this match at different point :P

Oh nice! I was gonna say a 4 on 4 goal wouldn't be considered a power play.

And yea that happens a lot during a rivalry game. Maybe this wasn't a good game to show you as your first game since most games aren't this testy. Those teams just HATE each other.

I don't know its been fun to watch. Even if its just been a lot of crosschecking, tackling, and wacking with sticks. :P
