Of Shadows and Swords (Chiarra)

((No, just doing a bunch of other things lol. Though, for now I'll be able to be on for a while ^_^ ))

She nodded, "I'll do so anyways and...Archer." She looked at him then. "Thanks," she smiled softly at him. He had made her feel somewhat better. "Um....what would be a good way to show Lucius that I am sorry? I don't want him to think that I'm only thinking of myself even though that's what it seems like.

Despite her assumptions, Archer was not always 'nice'. He only shrugged, holding his hands up to indicate helplessness, and shook his head. "I can't help you there. And if I could, I probably wouldn't. Truthfully, little girl, you deserve it. You've cost him everything, and he still has to tote you around and take care of you because he's too good of a person to just abandon you on the side of the road." He gave her a look that was both serious and slightly threatening. "I, on the other hand, am not. If it were up to me, we would find a nice place to drop you where you wouldn't die and be done with it." He slipped a knife from its sheath at his side, spun it around his fingers to make a point though he never actually held it in a way that suggested he would use it. "Mark my words, princess - find any other ways to hurt him again, and I'll make it look like an accident."

"I didn't want to drag him into this," she said, her voice slightly raised from hurt and anger. "I wish I didn't have to." She fought back some tears. She really did feel horrible about doing this to him, she just....just couldn't marry that horrible man. "I didn't and don't want to hurt him. If the man I was supposed to marry wasn't as horrible as the rumors made him out to be, then I wouldn't be doing this right now. I just...didn't want to be abused," she said, her voice lowered. "But I don't want to stop you from having your lives, so go ahead and drop me off somewhere and be done with me." A tear escaped the wall she had tried to build to stop them, and she wiped it away.

Archer didn't really see how her husband was his problem, but Lucius was his problem and he wasn't going anywhere. "Not gonna happen 's long as he's around to protect you. Don't worry, deary. He's going to keep you around for a good long while, so nobody finds you and drags you back, or so you don't starve or get killed on your own. Now buck up." He shrugged and turned to walk away. "Dinner's cold and we've left him waiting."

She listened as he spoke and watched as he walked away from her. Both of them hated her. She didn't really blame them, but...still, earlier she had gotten a different vibe from Archer. He had seemed friendly enough, but....that just turned out to be a show, where she was concerned anyways. She thought about just walking in the opposite direction and just not going back, but...Archer would probably just drag her back anyways.

She looked down to the ground and followed him back. She walked into the restaurant, not speaking a word to either one of them and just looked at her food, not eating. After a while, she said, "Lucius...if you don't want to put up with me, you don't have to. Just drop me off somewhere safe enough and then you won't see any more of me."

((I love playing with characters like Archer xD Cheery for the most part, but then all devious and almost evil other times lol))

Lucius glanced up when Archer returned with Melody, then frowned when she started to talk. He sat up straighter in his chair. "What? Who said I was going to -" He stopped, looked at Archer and glared, fingers curling hard against the table. "What did you say to her?"

Archer smiled a little warily, holding his hands up in defense. "I only told her the truth."

"Who the hell told you to do that!" A dark spot formed on the table beneath his hand, hidden from view, and was quickly smothered into nonexistence again. Archer shoved up out of his seat almost hard enough to topple it and just jabbed a finger in Archer's direction. "You're sleeping outside tonight!" He declared, then looked at Melody. "I'll be outside." He spun on his heel and marched out after that, leaving them alone. He was 100 percent serious. They were staying at an inn tonight, and Archer was sleeping outside. No argument.

(( ^_^ , I can tell lol))

Melody just sunk into her chair, trying to make herself as little as possible and hopefully disappear so they wouldn't see her when Lucius started yelling at Archer. No doubt Archer was going to let her have it when he was gone, and soon, he was, telling her he would be outside and leaving her alone with him. She slid down off the chair and sat under the table, her knees hugged to her chest, as she waited for him to let her have it. She was afraid of what he might say to her, or do. Maybe it would have been best to stay and marry like she was supposed to because she was afraid Archer was going to make her life as hard as possible to live from now on.

Archer huffed quietly when Lucius had left and just rested his cheek on a hand. "Well . . . guess the roof's not s' bad." He shrugged and knocked on the table. "What are you doing under there? You should finish eating or you'll be hungry in the middle of the night, and I don't think we packed snacks." Honestly. He'd told her he would hurt her if she did more damage for Lucius, and that hadn't happened so she really had no reason to cower like that. He paused, thought about it, and just laughed. "Well, look on the bright side. He's made at me now, not you." He tapped his fingers idly on the table. "He's kinda scary when he's mad, isn't he?" But then, Melody had no idea what Lucius was, and what he was capable of, so perhaps not quite so scary to her.

((I can't help but picture this as an anime lol))

She heard him speak and then bang on the table. She got back up in her chair and just continued eating her food as quickly as possible and then she got up. She didn't say anything at all to Archer as she left, and went to the door. She hesitated, not sure if she really wanted to bother Lucius either, but...she was done eating and had no reason to be in here anymore, so she opened the door and headed out.

((Is it 'cause Archer's picture's so girly? xD ))

Lucius was leaning against the side of the building, thumbs hooked to his belt, as he waited, and looked up when Melody came out. "Done eating?" He asked, then nodded and started walking. "I'll take you to the inn. . . I'm sorry about Archer. He's very . . . protective." He shook his head. "But don't worry about him. I've got a lid on him. He won't so much as pluck a hair from your head." Archer knew what Lucius could do, and Lucius knew that Archer hated being dragged through shadows. Lucius wasn't above scaring the living daylights out of him to get him in line.

((A little, lol and plus the emotions and what not lol))

She nodded when he asked if she was done eating and she followed him to the inn, listening as he spoke. "He was right though," she said. "It isn't fair for you to just continue taking care of the person who ruined your life, and I know you hate me despite the fact you said you didn't. You don't have to help me anymore, now that we are out of the castle," she finished.

Lucius glanced back at her over his shoulder and sighed. "I do sort of hate you," He admitted, but shook his head after and held up a hand to stop her from speaking, "But I understand why you wanted to run away. I was conveniently in the wrong place at the wrong time." He sighed, ran a hand through his hair. "I'm not just going to drop you somewhere. You've lived in a castle being waited on and protected all your life. You wouldn't survive one day on your own."

She nodded when he said he did sort of hate her and stopped talking when he raised his hand. She had absolutely nothing to say to that, so she said nothing. She just continued to follow him. "I really am sorry though," she said after a bit. She wanted him to at least no that. "And....thank you."

Lucius sighed when they reached the inn, pausing to look back at her. "Please stop apologizing and thanking me. It's going to get old rather fast, isn't it?" He gestured inside. "Come on. I'll get us a room. If we must, pretend we're married."

"I'm s....okay," she said, about to apologize once more and stopped herself. She would try to stop apologizing and thanking him, though...she would feel like she was being rude. She nodded when he said they should pretend to be married if they needed to, though she blushed at the idea. She followed him inside though, prepared to do what he said.

There wasn't any trouble at the inn. When he asked for a room and was queried for how many people he would have in the room, he answered that it was only he and his wife. They gave him a room and he put his arm around Melody when they walked away and everything was fine. When they got inside, there was only one bed, so he set their bags aside and just slipped off his shoes. "I'll sleep on the floor. Do you want the bath first?"

She blushed a bit as he called her his wife and he wrapped his arms around her, but she was glad that no one recognized her, if they ever would by just looking at her face. She followed him to the room and noticed only one bed. He offered to take the floor. "You can take the bed," she said. "I don't mind sleeping on the floor, and yes, I could bath first." She moved to the bathroom and stripped her clothes off, before getting in and washing. When she was done, she dried off and dressed once more before sitting on the floor.

Lucius rolled his eyes when she settled on the floor upon coming back. Shaking his head, he just pointed to the bed and headed for the bathroom. "Take the bed, Princess. I've slept in worse places before." As if she would ever be able to sleep on the floor. She was too used to her cushy bed at home.

She sighed as he told her to take the bed and insisted. She didn't want to argue with him, so she got up and sat on the bed. When he would come out of the bathroom, she would still be sitting on the bed and she would look at him. "I understand if you still want to sleep on the floor, but you don't have to. There's plenty of room in this bed for the both of us and it's not like it would mean anything..." she said trailing off with a slight blush on her cheeks. She still stood by her words though.

Melody was waiting for him when he emerged, drying his hair a bit still, and he frowned slightly at her words. Finally, he sighed and tossed the towel back into the bathroom, where it landed over the sink to dry. "It would mean you would be too uncomfortable to sleep." Shaking his head, he lowered himself to the ground and settled in on his side, facing the door. "Just go to bed, Princess. I'm fine."

She just simply sighed at his words and laid down, facing the wall, and laid there. There was no point in arguing with him. She closed her eyes and eventually, she was able to fall asleep. She slept soundly through the night, waking up once the sun was starting to come up and shine through the window. She woke up, stretching and yawning in bed, but trying to be as quiet as possible in case Lucius was still sleeping.

Lucius was just coming out of the washroom when Melody was waking up, and spared her a glance as he made his way over to their things. "Oh, you're up. We'll leave as soon as you're ready." Archer would be nearby and they would head off together, and Lucius would do his best to keep his traveling companions seperated. Honestly, Archer chose the worst times to let his own shadows show. He could've at least waited until they were somewhere safer. If Melody had run off the night before, he wasn't sure what they would've done.

She nodded and got up, heading to the bathroom. She cleaned up some, washing her face and washing off as much as she could before going back into the room. "Okay," she said. "I'm ready now." Her stomach growled softly. "Though....a bit of breakfast wouldn't hurt first," she said biting her lip softly.

Lucius just nodded and gave her the bag that was her own to carry. "Of course. We'll get something to eat, restock on supplies while we're here, and get going."

When they got outside, Archer was already waiting, looking chipper as ever and none the worse for wear after sleeping outside. He just smiled and held up a small basket with fruit, bread and cheese inside. "Good morning! I already got breakfast. We can take what we don't eat with us."

She nodded and took the bag from him to carry it. When they got outside, she saw Archer and she was a bit nervous around him. When she saw the food, she reached out to take a bit of cheese, bread, and fruit, before she started eating it. She felt so...awkward being around these two, but there wasn't anything she could do about it.
