Of Shadows and Swords (Chiarra)

Melody blushed a bit at his words, but didn't say anything, not wanting to make it obvious, but she was smiling.


"That would be perfect," Natalie said. "We can come up with a design later though," she said.


"Ooh, what if we do red embroidery on the white part and white embroidery on the red part?" Melody asked. She thought that would be interesting. "Maybe they could be vines or...something else?" she wasn't sure.
 
"Oh, be creative," Archer said, flashing a grin at them both. "Can't we make it some sort of weapon instead? Or if we're going to stick with plant life, something with thorns. I have to be elegant and manly, you know." He laughed a little at the look Lucius had gotten at that. "Anyway. You should show me how to do it, too. I'm sure I can pick it up." He always was able to 'pick up' new skills. He'd always had to, to survive.
 
"We'll think of something," Melody said smiling and rolling her eyes a bit at him, but only in a teasing way. "And sure, we can show you how, it's not that hard, just takes patience."


"Exactly," Natalie agreed, smiling.
 
Lucius laughed a little, quietly. "You might have more of a hard time with that than anything. If he doesn't have a reason to be patient, he won't be."


Archer just poked him in the side with a finger. "I'll have you know I'm only impatient with you. . . Because you're boring."


Lucius rolled his eyes and swatted at Archer's arm, still smiling slightly. "And you're annoying. We're even."
 
Melody laughed softly. "And you think sewing isn't boring?" she asked. "It's so monotonous."


"And to have to sit there and do it for hours, it's hard on the eyes," Natalie agreed. "And your fingers"
 
Archer just shrugged, raising his hands a bit helplessly. "I never said I knew how my own brain worked. I'm always up for learning new skills." He laughed. "It's the only reason I can bend like that."
 
Melody smiled softly and said, "Okay then, we'll teach you."


"Can you show us more tricks?" Natalie asked.
 
Archer nodded, ever ready to have attention on him, and glanced around. "Well, it would be easier if we were standing still, but I can do a few things. He went about after that, picking up a rock and a few sticks to use as props, and astounded them with his ability to make things 'disappear' without any sort of Raven powers or magic, with the promise to show more acrobatics once they'd come to a halt later on. Lucius was just glad everyone was happy.
 
"That's amazing!" Melody exclaimed. "How did you possibly do that?" It was very clear that Melody was the type to be very easily entertained. She looked around and didn't see the sticks or stones he had used anywhere on the ground.

Archer grinned, clearly pleased by Melody's amazement and her entertainment. "A magician never reveals his secrets!"


Lucius laughed. "He's got them up his sleeves."


Archer pointed an accusing finger at him. "Traitor! Lies! I have done no such thing! It's magic, I tell you!"
 
((It is and that makes the second time I've done it today *sigh*))


Melody laughed at him and said, "Well, it was still fascinating."


"Do you have any talents besides shadows Lucius?" Natalie asked.
 
Lucius shrugged a bit self-consciously as Archer emptied his sleeves onto the ground, putting his hands in his pockets. "I was trained as a knight. . . Beyond that, I don't really have any talents."
 
"A knight?" she asked. "What are you doing out here, wanting to join the circus? Did they know you were a Raven?"


((I thought of another plot twist, but what if maybe that guy is Lucius's brother somehow?))
 
((But his parents are dead? It would be a cool twist, but it'd be kind of difficult to prove it))


Lucius winced a little, realizing he'd given away too much, and just shook his head. "N-No, I . . . No one knew. I was raised by a normal human, and things just . . . Circumstances changed, and I needed to leave." He managed a faint, mostly un-pained smile. "I needed to do a little 'soul searching', I suppose."
 
((Yeah, I know that's what I was thinking. But he is evil enough to lie about it so maybe that could work? It would just be a lie, but for all he knows it could be the truth because the other guy is older.))


Melody was a bit nervous of what would happen if the girl put things together, but Lucius pulled through and Natalie didn't ask any more questions about that. "Sounds fair," she said. "Being a knight isn't for everyone. What about you Archer?" Natalie looked at him, wondering what he would say. "Or you Melody, why are you all traveling together?"


Melody bit her lip as she tried to think of what to say. "We all knew each other for a while now and thought it would be fun to go on a trip," she said shrugging a bit. She hoped she pulled it off.
 
Archer gave an overdramatic scoff and just waved his arms around to encompass everything. "I'm a free spirit! I traveled everywhere anyway." He shook his head mock-disappointedly. "Without me, these two would've never made it out of the city without a step-by-step map."


Lucius snorted softly, laughed a little and shook his head. "Maybe not so bad, but yes, we would be very lost without you."


"See?" Archer grinned. "I'm useful."

"I wouldn't have made it anywhere without either one of you," she said, sighing a bit. It was the truth too, if she had tried to escape on her own, she would have either been kidnapped, brought back, or found dead. She was starting to feel she was a bit useless, since she couldn't even pick berries without having to ask if they were safe.
 
Archer smiled and just took her hand and Lucius' and gave them a big swing up and down, a grin on his face. "We're a team, so we can't separate."

Melody smiled softly at him when he took their hands and nodded. "Right," she said. She so wanted to lean into him a bit, but couldn't.


Natalie smiled at the scene, it was nice. "Well, anyways, I'm glad you are all here now anyways. It's nice to see new faces that I don't have to say bye too the next day."
 
Lucius blinked, surprised at the thought of it, and ignored the way Archer was swinging their hands slowly back and forth a bit still. "That . . . That must be difficult. We would, actually, like to stay as long as we can so . . . so then maybe you won't have to say goodbye for a very long time." It would be nice to have a new friend.
 
Melody smiled at the other girl and nodded in agreement. "That's right," she said.


Natalie smiled at them and said, "I'm glad." It would especially be nice to have a friend who was a girl her age.

((Good enough. I feel like we're running out of long term goals for this, besides the shadow guy :( is sad))


Traveling was more enjoyable, with people to travel along with, and with Archer showing some of his myriad tricks along the way. When they finally settled for the night, and dinner was being cooked, Archer entertained some of the other circus acts with his own acrobatics. Two men held a long pole up a few feet from the ground and Archer did tricks and pleased the crowd, enough so that Lucius thought they may have a chance of staying. Because, this could be a good life, with friendly people, and another Raven, and constantly traveling so they would be safe. And Archer and Mlody would have fun. They would be happy.
 
((I know. Maybe next time we should plan an rp where there would be a lot more room for action and more story arcs lol))


Melody and Natalie were both amazed with Archer and clapped and cheered for him. It was an amazing show he put on. Alrin was also watching and he thought that Archer would make a great addition to the show they put on.


"You're quite the acrobat," he told Archer when he was on the ground once more.
