Of Brick and Stone (open)

Aaly stared blankly at the place where the hovercraft got out of sight and sighed, she better keep going. She put on her hood again and glanced at the two people one last time, wondering if they were lovers, how sad.. Maybe even that had been decided beforehand by their PIC, that thought made her touch her eyepatch softly, and if her parents being together was also decided by that? She shook her head trying to get that out of her mind, just how much of her life had been decided before? Could it had been that even her being born was all part of a plan? She hated that thought, she really did.

Why the heck had she gone to this place? Seeing that craft ruined her mood, that was already gloomy by itself. It made her believe that she could even see her old self in front of her, all dressed up and with a fake plastic smile. It made her think of the royal family, and how supposedly all of them were good friends, those... would have forgotten her and her family by now.

She clenched her fists and decided to keep going, not realizing that she had dropped one of her black gloves on the ground which had been until now on her pocket, she just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible, away from that stupid craft. She even had to talk about that to her people, she was sure they were planning something

Halo noticed that the girl had dropped something, and his eyes widened when he saw what. Grabbing Crisis's arm, he pulled her out of the train before the doors shut. Crisis watched the train speed away without them on it. Her mouth dropped into a perfect O.

"What. The hell. Did you, Just do!" Crisis hissed, shoving him.

"Shhhhh," Halo hissed back. "Look," he was pointing to the glove.

Crisis's eyes widened when she was the glove. But the glove wasn't shocking, what was engraved on it was. "Is that...?" Crisis's voice trailed off as she read the xiii.

Halo looked around to see if anyone was watching before picking up the glove.

"What are you doing!?" Crisis whisper-hissed. "If you're found with that on you--"

Halo cut her off. "Then we'll say that she dropped it," Halo whispered back gesturing to the girl who didn't seem to notice the dropped glove.

Crisis's eyes followed her. "Her? A rebel?" the girl didn't look it.

"Let's follow her," Halo said out of nowhere.

"What? No! Missing a day of school it an automatic detention."

"You're already late, and you know this will be ten times more interesting then whatever you do at school." Halo knew it would be more interesting then work.

Crisis smiled. "Why do I let you talk me into these thing?"

Halo smiled as well. "C'mon, we're loosing her."

Aaly let out a yawn as she walked through a random alley she found, she jumped over a fence and kept on walking. It was still early to go back home, so she just guessed she may be able to walk for a while and kinda enjoy her time away from district 2. It was not that she hated it, actually it had been her home for 5 years by now, yes that day was also the anniversary of her arrival. But she, even though, had grown to have certain attachment to it, she preferred to go and explore other places, specially on that day.

In a moment, she had forgotten all about the hovercraft and how it made her feel, instead, she was focusing on maybe finding a food stand and buy something for the children of her district. Bread maybe? They loved it. She smiled a little as she decided to stop by and buy some for them before going back home. She had some spare money she got from some random jobs she used to do for families on district two, one of them was mainly teaching, as she at least had gotten a decent education before she was 'thrown' to her actual district, and so she could still remember the basics. Also, she had worked as a spy for xiii, no difficult jobs though, she was chosen because she knew how to 'behave' in upper districts. She had all of those things in her mind and that itself made her not realize she would be followed, at least she did not at the moment as she walked casually.

The two friends followed the girl as she went about her day, walking through allies, hopping fences, buying food. Halo making sure that they never got too close.

Cleo sucked her teeth. "This is soooo boring," she wined. "Where's the action? Are you sure that was her glove?"

"Pretty sure."

Crisis looked downed a gasped. "My socking is ripped," she cried.

"Wow. If I knew you were going to complain this much, I would have left you on the train," he said playfully nudging her in the back of the head.

"Whatever."

Aaly had walked more than she had expected she would, but hey if you realize that someone is following you, you usually want to know why. She had noticed a while back, though she had not done anything against them, first thinking it was just coincidence, later thinking they would just get bored and leave her alone. Why was that couple over there following her? Could it be because they guy had seen her 'shooting' the craft?

Well who cared anyway... If they were following her they had to prepared for the consequences. Right now she was also walking through an alley and when she felt them stop for a moment she got through a hole and came out from a old and ripped metal fence from behind them and took the girl from the arm, pulling her back and then pushing her agains the wall, holding a sharp dagger against her throat "So, You know? I've been wondering all my day..Who are both of you and why are you following me?" She said first looking at her and then at him.

Surprise. That was the first thing Crisis felt. Then it was replaced by anger. "Ow, let go of me you bitch," she snapped.

"Yeah that's the way to go, insult the girl with the knife at your throat," Halo spoke to Crisis but his eyes stayed on the girl.

Crisis gave Halo a look. "Get her off of me!"

Calm and composed, halo held out the girl's glove. "You dropped this, we were returning it."

Aaly blinked as she looked at her glove "Did I?" She then looked back at the girl and gave her a grin, as if she was mocking her "You should listen to your boyfriend, that big mouth of yours would get you into trouble one day, brat" She said even though she was pretty sure that girl would at most be one year younger than her. She then let go of her and took her glove from Halo's hand. "Shouldn't you be at school, or working or whatever?" She asked as she put her glove on.

"He's not my boyfriend," Crisis said at the same time Halo said, "She's not my girlfriend." It was an automatic response that formed over the years of everyone assuming they were together.

"Shouldn't you be working?" Crisis said fixing her uniform and hair. "Or do rebels not work?"

"We have the day off," Halo said moving in between the two girls. She was right, Crisis had a quick mouth, always had. He didn't want the girl to leap at his friend again.

"So," Halo said, a smile back on his face. "What is a girl like you doing in a place like this?"

Aaly frowned a little but soon changed her expression to a smiling face. She had to be clever enough to not say anything unnecessary "I'm not a rebel" She said calmly as she crossed her arms, though she was pretty sure they wouldn't believe in her. She then looked at Halo and shrugged "I came to buy some food, can't find good food were I come from"

"Yeah, you're right, I carry the rebel signature on my clothing too," Crisis rolled her eyes, still fixing her hair. "You know what? We should turn her in, a rebel is worth quite a pretty penny."

"We're not turning her in."

"Why not?"

Halo ignored her. "How did you get into this district? Crossing borders is nearly impossible without a PIC, and you look to be missing that."

Aaly just ignored Crisis remark, yeah right and a girly girl like her would even be able to lay a hand on her, even the thought seemed ridiculous itself. "Oh, It's pretty difficult to explain, you know? But if you follow me I can show you" She said with a simple smile on her face, she knew he wasn't actually gonna follow her and so she wouldn't have to explain either.

Halo grinned. "What do you say, want to see how a rebel sneaks into districts?" he asked over his shoulder.

Crisis sighed, she knew he wanted to, and to be honest so did she. "We might as well. It's not like we can do anything else till four since we can't be on the streets."

Halo nodded. "Lead the way," he said to the girl.

Aaly blinked, once again surprised. Seriously? Well... She could always play with them a little, put more barriers "It's dangerous, you know? It's not a place for people like both of you" She said as she jumped and sat on top of a big wooden box "Besides, you will have to pay a fee" She added with a smile.

"A fee? If you wanted money, all you had to do was ask. I'm always happy to help the less fortunate."

Halo gave Crisis a look and she mouthed what?

"How much is the fee?" Halo asked

Aaly lost her patience there, glaring at her with pure and cold hatred that even her blue eye seemed to glimmer, she was really.... she couldn't even say it, but what could she expect from someone that had been born at district 5 and was perfectly happy with her life? She jumped off, with all the intention of leaving them there, they were just a bother. However, something came to mind.. Ah.. Well she could do something about it "You know what? You can pay me later, come with me then" She said and she started to walk off.

As the girl went, Halo turned to Crisis.

"Crisis," he began.

"Oh I was joking," she quickly defended.

"Look, I know that bitch is your favorite emotion, but you need to tone it down. Especially around her. You don't know her story."

"She started it!"

"Crisis."

"Okay," Crisis said holding up her hands. "I'll play nice."

Halo turned on his heels and Crisis followed. They quickly caught up to the girl.

"I'm Halo by the way. And this cutey here is Crisis," he said pinching her cheek. Crisis rolled her eyes pushing his hand away.

Aaly looked back at them. Well at least Crisis was a name that seemed to fit her, she thought and let out a smile because of that. "Hmm.. So both of you are from this district?" She asked as they walked into a main street which was kinda crowded. It was quite the journey back to the Urn, though they could always use shortcuts, of course.

As they came into the main street, Halo and Crisis lowered their heads a bit. It was an unconscious response. If someone caught them out and about without a pass when they were suppose to be at school and work, they'd be in trouble.

"District 8," Halo answered. "Crisis is from here though. And I didn't catch your name."

Aaly looked back at him for a moment, wondering if it was okay to tell him "Al" She said simply and remained quiet the rest of the time. Either way it was kinda difficult to talk with them when the streets were that crowded, but well what would she expect? She guessed most of the people were there just because of the treaty thing. When they finally reached a much more empty street, she took off her hood and put on her gloves, it was much more safe now.

It was really rare to see a street like that on a rich district, it seemed almost as if it was a different one, it was not clean and full of 'lively' people, it was instead kinda dirty and gloomy. There were not even much people there, kinda seemed like abandoned. She wondered if there was a street like that in what used to be her home, if there was she never heard about it, but then again she didn't hear about many things. To reach there they had spent at least half an hour and she looked back just to make sure if they were still behind her.

When Al stopped talking, Crisis started. She didn't like quiet and talked to fill the void. She didn't really talk about anything, just school, when she would start job training, and complained about how she was tired of walking from time to time. In return, Halo would politely listen, respond to her thoughts, and tell her to quit wining when she would start. But he only had half his attention on his friend. He focused the rest of his attention on where the girl was taking them, and what she was doing.

Crisis became more quiet as the streets became less crowded. And Halo brought up his guard.

"I've been rather curious," Halo began when Crisis stopped talking altogether. "What made you want to join xiii?"

Aaly had been quite annoyed by Crisis talking nonstop, but then again she had just focused on the people, the streets, the sun over her head. Everything to get away from that. When they reached the 'empty' street she was just happy by the fact that she had already stopped talking. If she wanted to complain that much then why didn't she do something about it? Of course, she wouldn't dare, none of them would.

She was caught quite off guard with Halo's question and just stayed quiet as she stared at him "For the same reason we all join. To have the right to complain" She said simply as she glanced at Crisis. "Now.. If you will follow me" She added as she turned back and entered an old decrepit looking house.

Crisis rolled her eyes at Al's answer. Halo chuckled, amused.

Crisis glanced over her shoulder as they followed. "Where is this?" she whispered.

"I don't know," Halo whispered. The louder, he asked Al. "Are you showing us your rebel base?"

Aaly raised her eyebrow at their question "Of course not" She said as she walked down the house's stairs. It seemed as an old and empty basement, where is was so dark that seeing anything was almost impossible. However, she knew her way in there and so she took off her rhombus like necklace and pushed it into a seemingly crack on the wall. Suddenly a screen appeared before her and she tapped certain patterns, soon the floor disappeared and they were all falling. When they reached the bottom it felt as soft as cotton and soon they were surrounded by multiple people. Aaly just stood up and smiled at all of them before looking back at Halo and Crisis.

"Who are they?" A rough looking man asked, with a frown on his face.

"Just some people that come with me. Relax, you know I'll take care of them if something happens. I take responsibility" She said with an innocent smile before turning back to them "Well let's keep going" She found it kind of funny all the situation.. As if she was a mafia boss or something like that. Even though she found it even more funny that the people over there trusted her enough to believe in her and let her go without any trouble while getting in two totally strangers into a place like that.

(Yup, just make a skelly ^-^)
Crisis had clung to Halo's forearm when the entered the dark room. And when the floor fell from under them she grasped his forearm like it was life itself. Now that they were safe, well as safe as they could be, Halo had to pry her fingers from his flesh which left behind a red mark. Standing, and helping Crisis to her feet, Halo was starting to wonder if this was such a good idea. These people looked like bad new and the two of them looked like they didn't belong.

"Take care of us?" Halo asked trying to hide how uneasy he really was. He kept Crisis close as they continued to follow Al. He didn't like the looks these people were giving them.
