Of Brick and Stone (open)

"My bracelet," Crisis said bending at the knees to pick it up.

"So what? Are you helping us now?" Crisis asked. "Because if I remember correctly, you left us all alone on an deserted street. But not after your friends almost tried to fight us. And what was that little tip you gave us? Oh, that right. Never trust a Rebel again. Or did you have a sudden change of heart Al? Oh no, my bad, Aaliya."

Halo followed every step the girl took. He was happy for the help, but with everything that had happened in the hours before, he didn't fully trust her.

Crisis was shooting off her mouth again, and that made Halo sighed. She really needed to learn that there is a time and place. Still, she did have a point. "Why are you helping us? I got the feeling that you'd rather we'd not live the night."

Aaly reacted when she called her by her name, she felt the blood going up to her head, she felt the buzzing again, things turning red on her field of view. She closed her eyes though, to restrain herself, she needed to obey Trent, she needed to obey Trent... She ignored her again.. She had to hold back.. She could do as much. So she just kept her eyes closed and stayed still. Maybe, Crisis would shut up eventually if she realized Aaly was not gonna fight back, maybe she would just get tired of it and shut the hell up.

Night was just starting and there was still plenty of time to go, but she just begged it would pass quickly. She felt the humidity on her cheek. The blood dripping down her cheek, but she too didn't pay attention to that. Not even to the much worse wound on her arm. Maybe.. If she was lucky.. She would die of blood loss and wouldn't have to look after those brats.. She knew she wouldn't be though.

Crisis rolled her eyes. "Great, now she's ignoring us," she said, her eyes falling back on her d0t hack to finish her work that was so rudely interrupted.

Halo noticed the cut on Aaliya's cheek and felt bad. If it was him in her shoes, and some rich kids from a well off district came into to his district and started messing up the run of things, he's be mad too. And besides, they did choose to follow her here. Reaching into Crisis's bag, Halo pulled out a small case of tissues, he made his way over to the edge of the roof.

"You don't have to help her," Crisis reminded him.

Halo just shrugged. "She didn't have to help us," he tossed back.

Halo stood beside Aaliya and held out the case. "For your cuts."

Aaly refused to open her eyes "Your girlfriend is right, you don't have to help me" She said simply. Actually she didn't dislike the feeling on her cheek, yeah she might had as well gone mad by now, but it felt wet and refreshing.. it felt.. it felt as if it reminded her of all the things which came with her living on District 2, she didn't realize it but each time she was called an 'intruder' or a 'fake' she felt hurt and unappreciated, the wound just made her feel... like she had the right to be living there...

Enough! Enough of feeling self pity. Seriously she was just acting stupid, she didn't care about those losers, she wouldn't feel sad about their idiotic points of view, that was her home, she had obtained the right to call it that with all the things she had done 'till now.. She opened her eye and it also glimmered under the moonlit. She looked up at Halo "Now would you mind stepping back? I'm trying to sleep" Her voice, once again was devoid from all emotion. The buildings of District 2 were not to be trusted, they were dangerous, they were slippery and could crumble easily, she understood that and Halo being there at the edge made her nervous, if he was to be there without being careful he might as well throw himself off the building before he accidentally fell from it. It was better for him to retreat to the center, it was safer there.

Halo dropped the tissues on the girl's lap. "I am grateful for you coming to our rescue... and so is Crisis."

A high pitched ping came from Crisis's direction and Halo turned towards her.

"Our passes are ready," Crisis said.

Halo glanced at Aaliya and then walked over to Crisis. She scanned Halo's and her right eye once again.

"Now if anyone checks, they'll see that we have three days to do what we want," she said happily.

"Thanks," Halo smiled.

Aaly glanced at them from the corner of her eye before looking back up at the sky. What were they talking about? She wondered. She didn't remember a lot of how the PIC worked, she had only had it herself during less than a year after all. And by now, in just those 5 years of her not really getting involved with people who really followed what the PIC decided for them, she had pretty much forgotten all of the things it controlled.

She looked down at the tissues on her lap and took one, softly rubbing the wound with it. Now... Who would she talk to, to get herself a hover car? That was a difficult one... No one from xiii would help her out in getting herself one, she she had to do it by herself. Not really easy thing to do so when half of the people from your own District do not acknowledge you, and the other half who actually do and respect her wouldn't have a hover car on their living rooms.

She raised her eyebrow, however, when she heard a 'silent' growl down there on the streets. Ah.. It had begun. Thanks God those guys actually found a good place to stay the night. The higher, the best.

"Oh. My. God." Crisis whispered peering over the roof wide eyed. On the streets below walked three fully grown hyper hounds.

"What the hell are those?" Halo asked.

Crisis gave him a look. "What are those? Didn't you learn anything in history? They're hyper hounds. "When Halo gave her a blank look she went on. "Back when the war was just beginning Gabrial Eddings found a way to genetically enhanced the DNA of animals, wolves being his biggest success. The hyper hounds helped swing the war in our favor." Crisis said in awe. "But I didn't know that they still existed, those things are dangerous. The project was shut down after the war ended."

Halo frowned. "This must be a dumping ground." he said simply.

"What?"

"It like a place where the higher districts throw the things they don't want or are too dangerous to keep in their own home. They're too lazy to get rid of it the right way so to the lower districts it goes." Halo said, his voice cold and bitter. He knew first hand what the what dumping things like this could do to a place. When District 9 discontinued their experiments for a new souse of energy, they dumped all their toxic leftovers in the waters next to where he grew up. It was almost impossible to find clean water.

"I've never heard of a dumping ground." Crisis said.

"Not surprised," Halo said. Then to Aaliy. "Do these things come out ever night?"

Aaly shrugged "They do. And right now they are just few. And I just told you to step ba-" But it was too late to say it. The floor under their feet crumbled, leaving Crisis without nowhere to set her feet on. Aaly's eyes widened as she took her by the arm with her right hand, feeling the extremely painful feeling on her sore and wounded arm. She grimaced at the feeling but didn't let go of the girl who was now just hanging above the hyper hounds.

The sound of the floor crumbling and the piece of it that fell on top of one of those things were enough to catch their attention. And, as if driven by madness, all of them snapped and started to bellow, roar and growl at them. They were big, there was no doubt and soon they started to jump to get to them. As the hyper hounds' weight fell back on the ground after every jump the ground shook and that and the fact that she was supporting that girl's weight while being on top of a fragile structure made her curse under her breath, realizing that it wouldn't be able to hold them much longer "A little help over here!" She yelled over to Halo.

She tried to swing her up again, but it was so painful to do so, her wound opened much more each time she tried to lift her up. She let out a sigh and carefully changed Crisis' arm over from her right hand to her left one. She had to buy them some time so she raised her right arm and took off her glove with her teeth, tossing it to the side. She then stretched out her arm and the blood soon started to stream down, falling on the hyper hounds' snouts. More than anything she had learnt they loved human blood and so soon they stopped trying to get to Crisis to just attack the hyper hound that had been spilled with the blood, as the wild animals they were.

Crisis screamed when she fell and let out a cry at the jolt of pain as Aaliya grabbed her mid fall.

"Pull me up!" Crisis cried scared out of her mind. She did not want to see just how fast those two things could tear them apart. Halo was at Aaliy's side, and as the other hounds attacked the blood splatted one, Halo helped to pull Crisis up, moving away from the edge of the building to the center.

"What type of cheep buildings are these that they can even hold up the weight of three--"

"What Crisis means," Halo said cutting her off. "Is thank up. Without your quick actions, she would have been dead." Halo nudged Crisis.

"Yeah, that's what I mean," Crisis said. "Thank you," she muttered quietly.

"Hmm?" Halo asked cupping a hand to his ear.

"Thank you," Crisis said louder.

Aaly sat back down, lightly sweating. Great, she had lost pretty much a lot of blood and those damned things were as loud as they could be as they teared up the hound that had been spilled with her blood. She pushed herself against the antenna once again and held her right arm tightly to her side. Could the night get anymore better!? She promised to herself, no more talking to other people's districts, next time she kills them or just get lost.

She didn't even had the energy to get mad at Crisis because of her comment.

"Yeah, right. Just... Just stay on the center, would 'ya?" She didn't want any other unexpected trouble.

Crisis huffed. "I hate this place," she muttered as she sat dead center on the building. Halo ran a hand through his hair, what an insane day. Halo walked over to Aaliya, looking over the edge he saw that the hounds were still hacking each other. "Hey let me see your arm. I can warp it for you."

"What did I just... Forget it" Oh well, if he fall it wouldn't be her fault. That whining girl over there would have to pull him up this time if he did fell. With much more effort than she expected it to take she took off her grey sweater, leaving her bleeding right arm in plain sight. Ah.. Her favorite shirt had been stained by her blood.. It was one of the few things she had kept from her old home.

Halo took the girl's sweater and whipped off the blood, reveling the cut below. "That's quite a nasty cut," Halo said ripping both sleeves off his jumpsuit. He then ripped the sleeves in half and carefully began to warp the wound. When he was little. Halo was always getting into fights, and falling out of things. Every time he came home he always had some new cut or scrape. Halo's mother would tend to all his wounds and taught him how to go it himself when he got a bit older. He was pretty good at it.

"Why'd you really join xiii?" Halo asked as he tied one of the sleeves around Aaliya's arm. He took his second sleeve and started the process again.

Aaly had to look at him for several seconds before she could actually understand his question. Her arm was going numb and she was pretty much sure she was having a fever right now because of her body trying to fight off the infection, she even felt delusional by now. She wasn't really her right now and so answering his question honestly was not something she had anything against of.

"To live my life the way I want to...Life... Life is supposed to be what you make of it, not something others decide to make of it. If you fall, you fall because of bad decisions you may have made, if you're rewarded, you are because you did something to deserve it.. That's the ideal thing, but in this world.. In this 'new order' that doesn't happen, does it? It's just a matter of luck and chance, who gets the best life out of the ones that had already been planned a long time ago. It doesn't matter how hard you try you will never be able to be better if you're not 'meant' to be" She looked at the moon, in her eyes it was closer than ever and she could even think she would be able to barely touch her if she held out her fingertips and try.

"What do we see up there? The sky.. The moon, the stars. It's the same over here and over District 1. At first.. At first I thought they were totally different, at first, when I was scared and hated being here, I thought the moon over here looked just as dirty and gloomy as this place, completely the opposite from the warm, round and beautiful moon that can be seen on District 1. But we now better, don't we? It's not different, is completely and utterly the same. Why... If every place is meant to be the same... If no matter where we are we are all under the same sky... Why is it so different? Why are you supposed to be less just because of the place your were born in? Why is this place considered a 'dumping ground' and District 1 ' the city in the sky'?" At one point she had felt she was just babbling, talking more than the necessary, but either way she somehow didn't care, she had bottled up all those things and right now she was just relieved to let them all out. Halo may had been thinking she was just stupid.. Or even had already stopped paying attention to her a long time ago. But she finally felt in peace, sick.. But in peace.

"I may had been blind half of my life.. But now I've opened my eyes and I refuse to let them be closed again. This 'war' I'm fighting might be suicidal, pointless or even just plain stupid. But as long as I believe on what I'm doing and have the possibility to choose being part of it by my own.. It is absolutely certain that I will God damn die for it a hundred of times, because it's something worth dying for and it was my decision" She felt her heart beating against her chest wildly and she felt happy about it. She was alive and free, she had been free for all those years and she was finally proud of it.

Halo watched her in awe as she spoke. Her words were so full of life, they flowed with passion, they were infectious. Aaliya had said everything that Halo had been thinking ever since he arrived in District 5; the only difference is, she wasn't afraid to say it. Which was wired, because Halo realized that this wasn't the district from which she was born. He wasn't sure why she had just shared all of that with him, but he was happy that she had.

"You're right," Halo said finishing up the last tie around Aaliya's arm. "I always wondered what had made everyone so scared that they would give up their freedom. What made them think that having their lives planned out, beginning to end, would make them happy. And then I saw it, everyone is still so scared about what happened over a century ago, that they will do anything to prevent it from happening again." Halo laughed. "They practically drill it into your head at school. That the government knows best, and if you don't follow what they say, then chaos will break out again, the world wont survive. Ever since I was old enough to speak, my parents taught me that freedom is better than living, and I've grown to believe in those words... but you can't change a world that fears the very word."

Halo dropped the girls arm and reached out to brush some loose strands of hair out of Aaliya's face. "You're burning up. I think you have a fever, and with a cut like this, you're looking at a rough night." Halo looked out over his surroundings. "Is there a pharmacy near my? I can get you antibiotics, and maybe even a better bandage."

(Yeah that would be great! I think everyone else (aside from mapo) dropped out so all the characters are open.)

Aaly watched Halo with a neutral expression on her part, but she tried to stay focused on his words, she tried to hear them even though it was difficult for her to stay well.. awake. When he finished speaking she just gave out a smile, a weak one, but still it was the most genuine one she had given till now. She was being heard... He had actually really heard her out.

"There just is the need of a spark... Even a little one to start a fire, and you know what? I'm more than happy to be part of what will light that spark" She muttered.

When she felt his cold hand on her face she couldn't help it but lean her face to it, it felt so cool... So refreshing. "You won't find any open at this time" She said in response to the pharmacy question.

Halo stood a stretched. Turning around he noticed that Crisis had fallen asleep. He smiled, he was glad that she felt safe enough to fall asleep here.
