Of Brick and Stone (open)

Aaly looked back at him and chuckled "Relax, it's not like I'm gonna kill you or anything" She said before she kept on walking until they finally arrived to a gate which had engraved the number 2 on it. There she just wrote the code on the panel beside it and the door opened "After you" She said, stepping aside. Would they really follow her through the end? She wondered to herself as she looked at them

The two paused at the door. Crisis glanced up at Halo wondering what he was thinking. She looked behind her, it wasn't like they had much of a choice now, they had no idea how to get back to the street above. Halo cleared his throat and Crisis watched as he went through the door. She quickly followed.

Aaly smirked as she stepped in behing them and closed the door. There were a couple of people there with them, talking between each other quite lively, however, they did stopped talking when Halo and Crisis stepped in, some making confused faces, others just staring blankly at them, but when Aaly walked in and waved at them soon little by little the conversations started to take place again, nevertheless, not without some of those people throwing curious glances at the two strangers from time to time.

Aaly leaned against a bar and soon the place started to shake lightly before it felt that suddenly it got pushed forward. When Aaly felt they were moving already she decided to talk "So both of you are really not a couple?" She asked curiously, because to her it pretty much seemed like that.

Two years ago a question like that would have made Crisis blush, she had a major crush on Halo back then, but now she just shook it off. She knew that if they did get in a relationship, it wouldn't last. So why wast a friendship over that? Many people asked them that when they first met the two friends, and they always gave the same answer.

"We're just friends," Crisis answered simply, then grinned. "Why, are you trying to see what chance you have with Halo over here?" Crisis glanced sidelong at Halo in time to see him straighten and give her a look. But she didn't care, she wanted to here Al's answer.

Aaly stayed quiet for a moment before giving out a smile "Oh my, was I that obvious?" She asked as she turned her smile at Halo. Her? Looking for a chance with that guy? With someone who had accepted his life to be decided by a thing like a PIC? No, never. Though it was a fact that she had developed a certain interest in Halo, by looking at him one would probably think he was the average guy, but he had something in his eyes... Something that made her wonder what had he gone through to have it

Crisis was taken aback. She did not expect that answer. She expected Al to make a rude comment and insult her. Crisis set her jaw to keep her mouth from falling into a perfect O, revealing her surprise. Was the girl being sarcastic? She couldn't tell. Crisis looked at Halo, he gave her a smile right back. Did he have a thing for her!? Not on her watch! This girl was trouble, and unlike herself, if Halo got into too much trouble, then he would be kicked out of the district. Halo was not going to fall victim to a rebel brat like her, and that was final!

"Anyway," Crisis said changing the subject, but unable to keep the tone of annoyance from her voice. "You never said where you were taking us."

Aaly was pleased by Crisis' looks and tone, she hadn't thought the guy would smile back but that didn't matter, she just wanted to annoy that girl. She just shrugged when Crisis asked her the question "Oh, you'll see" She said with an innocent smile. It would only take them a couple of minutes to get to their destiny, and then she would be able to just teach that girl a lesson.

However, to kill the time she just decided to keep bugging her "So, Halo, right? How old are you?" She asked as if she just wanted to focus on him, as if she really was interested on him.. She could pull an act perfectly, she had mastered it over the years, and so even interest seemed to spark on her eyes as she looked at him, though she really wasn't interested on him at all, right?

"Nineteen," Halo answered, not thinking much of the question. He was happy that the conversation had swayed away from who did and didn't like him. The fact that Crisis asked the question didn't surprise him, she was like that. But the girl's answer did. "How old are you?"

"Eighteen" She then blinked when she realized something, how stupid of her! Of course he would have that kind of eyes, he said he was from district 8, another poor district like hers. That would be kind of bothersome though, because a person that was born on a poor district would always have that experience carved on their souls and would know their way around other poor ones. Not anybody that hadn't been born there would understand the feeling, not even her that had been living like that since she was 13 years old. She then looked at his worker's jumpsuit "Food handler?" She asked, this time with genuine curiosity.

Halo raised a brow, he was confused as to how she knew that but the he remembered that he was still wearing his yellow jumpsuit, tied loosely to his hips. He might aw well have had a sign stamped to his head that read I do peasant work, at least that's the looks everyone always gave him. Halo grinned.

"How'd you ever guess?"

Crisis was upset, she was being completely ignored! She could have fell down and died right there and no one would have noticed. Crisis crossed her arms and let out a slow, even breath, burning holes into the back of Al's head with her eyes.

Aaly felt the glare of Crisis and she really enjoyed it and so she just smiled back at Halo, though she wasn't really sure if it was because of him or because she wanted to bother Crisis. "I wonder how" She said as she looked at his jumpsuit. Suddenly she felt their surroundings shaking once again and so he smiled "Ah we're here" She said in a good mood, finally back home. The rusty and kinda big hovercar's doors opened with a beep and all the people in there just walked out, some of them complaining on how long of a day it had been or about the job that was awaiting them over there.

This time she didn't wait for them to walk out before her, she just stepped out of the hovercar and stretched as she thought 'Home sweet home' though it was kinda the ironic thing taking into account that all the place was kinda the big dump. You could instantly feel the huge change between district two and district five. The streets were dirty and neglected, the people didn't wear as fancy clothes as those rich guys and they just walked with a tired look on their faces, in some no happiness at all on them could be found.

Even the sky was grey and gloomy, and it seemed as if that place didn't hold as much technology as the place they had just left a few minutes ago. Yeah.. It was not such a great thing, but one of the things Aaly really liked about her district was what was beyond those wannabe main streets... nature. Big, unexplored and wild nature, at least in places like hers that was left alone, as it seemed poor districts were not 'worth enough' to build giant and innovating things so they were able to keep the 'wild and barbarian' nature.

Crisis was confused, she didn't recognize any of this. She paused to look around. Where was this. The people looked miserable, sick, and old; three things that took her a moment to recognize. On top of that, the air smelt foul and everyone kept giving her wired looks. But they weren't looking at her. They were eying hey expensive school bag and gold necklace. And that's when it hit her. Crisis gasped and fear set in, when Al said that she would show them how she got from district to district, Crisis didn't realize that she was actually going to take them out of District 5.

Crisis tried to calm herself, but was failing. She had never, ever, been out of District 5. And she certainly never thought of stepping foot in a lower district. Crisis clutched her bag and tucked her necklace under her shirt. How could she have been to stupid to follow this girl? She should have never agreed to leave the train station. She wanted to go home, now.

Halo sensed Crisis's fear and stepped closer to her. Just like Crisis, Halo didn't think that Al would take them out of District 5. He felt tricked, and he didn't like that. Halo Straightened and made his face hard, eying anyone who dare look his way. He knew from experience that the people here would jump at a chance to take advantage of anyone they thought to be weak or out of place, and right now that was Crisis. Halo could get away with being here, but her, she cam from money and it showed. It wasn't hard to tell that she wasn't from around here. And he'd be damned if he let anything happen to her.

"District 2 I presume," Halo said, his voice hard and even. "When you said you'd show us how you passed unnoticed through the districts, I didn't think you would... well show us."

Aaly, who had been gazing at the streets, had to turn back to look at them, she was finally home, and there she finally felt in her territory. She thought she was gonna enjoy it, she thought she was gonna be delighted to see that expression on Crisis face, but she couldn't bring herself to do so, even though she didn't like that girl, she didn't see Crisis over there, she saw herself, lost and confused, wondering how the heck she had ended up in a horrible place like that, begging that nothing bad would happen to her as people looked at her as if she was God knew what. That made her change her attitude, and her smiley self that she had been before disappeared as the hovercar took off and lost itself in the foggy and cloudy sky.

"You asked for it" She said simply, her voice as hard and even as his, like her face right now. She felt how the people over there had stopped what they were doing to examine the out of place girl and she could do nothing but look back at them, a warning on her cold gaze. At least she had built herself a reputation over the years in there, and as people recognized her as 'Aaly' from xiii they retreated and resumed their activities, though reluctantly. Not all of them respected xiii, but at least on district 2 more people were loyal to it and respected it more than the real government, after all xiii looked over them the way the government had never done so.

Halo watched as the hover car left them, and wondered how a district like five could miss a hover car bringing in people under their noses. Halo's dark eyes fell back on Al.

"You and I both know that this is not what we meant." Halo's voice came off mean but he was in a place he didn't know, and that meant that his guard was way up. This girl could kill them right now and no one would know where to look for their bodies. Halo's gazed over the landscape. The buildings were run down, just like the people, it almost reminded him of his home town. Memories of his dead parents came flooding back and Halo quickly pushed them away, he needed a clear head. There was a differences between his home district and this one, on almost every building he looked, there was a spray-painted xiii. So this was the Rebel District, he had heard stories.

Hearing Halo's voice brought Crisis's back and she turned angry eyes on Al.

"Take us back!" she commanded. "Get that hover car back here and take us back now!"

This outburst caused some reluctant onlookers to stop what they were doing, and slowly, look towards Crisis. If they didn't know she wasn't from around here before, they did now. A small group of men exchanged some words and stood.

"Shhhh..." Halo said quietly.

"Halo, I don't want to be here."

"I know, just keep calm," Halo turned to Al. "Okay, you had your fun. Now it's time to leave."

Aaly shook her head and crossed her arms "Can't do. No more hover cars till monday" She was calm right now, she had not even blinked at Crisis sudden outburst. It was friday, and now they would have to stay there all the weekend, unless they found someone that could take them back, which she really doubted.

She glanced from the corner of her eye at the men who stood, that girl should better keep her mouth shut, she knew those men, and they were the type that didn't like strangers yell at the people from their district. Yes.. Everyone there looked after one another, after all they were their own chiefs and leaders. Couldn't trust in the royalty of District 2.. In fact she wondered if there was even one? She had never actually seen them.

"You told me to show you, I showed you, now you better watch your backs if you want to return sound and safe" She said as if that was a matter of fact. Right now... right now she had achieved what she had wanted to.. That was the price Crisis had to pay for the thing she had said before. Aaly was no bad person, but when insulted she didn't forget easily "You shouldn't have trust a Rebel, should you?" She added as she raised her eyebrow.

By now, she knew everyone, even if they were trying to hide it, were focusing their attention on them. Like.. Why the hell had Aaly bring those people there? Yeah.. By now Aaly asked herself the same question.

Halo knew what was coming before it happened. Crisis was proud, and she didn't like it when she was made a fool. Especially by someone she thought to be lower then herself. Crisis let out an angry screech and shoved Al with both hands. Quickly, Halo pulled Crisis away from Al and stood in between both girls. A crowd had formed in front of them almost imminently.

"What's going on here?" someone asked stepping out from the group.

"Nothing," Halo snapped. "And if you knew what's good for you you'd keep moving."

"Keep moving?" the man asked. "Boy, I don't think you know who I am."

"And I don't think you know who I am," Halo shot back preparing himself for a fight. There was no way he would be able to take all of them, but if he was going to go down, he go down swinging.

Aaly had just stood there, silent for a few seconds, she had stumbled back a little when Crisis shoved her, but she didn't lose her balance nor fall. She sighed, and there she didn't want to cause a ruckus. She rubbed the back of her neck, she had messed up. Gosh.. Why was she so impulsive? She hadn't been paying attention to what was really happening, in fact she had thought of leaving, and let those bothersome guys be. But she was snapped back to reality when she heard the man's voice. She looked up again and made a face as she confirmed her thoughts.

She stepped out from the group as well, stopping to stand beside the man.

"There's nothing going on here, Tydus" She said as she placed her hand on the man's arm

"Is this your doing, Aaliya?" The man, whose name was Tydus, asked as he looked at her with a severe look. Right there Aaly understood she had really made a mistake and even grimaced when Tydus used her full name, she hated it.

"It is and I will take responsibility for it" Aaly looked back at him, with much seriousness as his.

"Take care of it? What will you do when they tell on us? Kill them? Might as well get rid of them now. Look at them they do not even respect a leader from xiii, they do not respect us!" A man from the crowd said in an outburst of anger. Followed by that the crowd seemed to yell in agreement.

"Kill them!" "Torture them!" "They don't see us as equals!" "Let's keep that girl's belongings!" Were some of the things that could be heard from the now angered crowd.

("Kill them!" "Torture them!" "Let's keep that girl's belongings!" LMFAO one of those things are not like the others xD )

Halo stood directly in front of Crisis, shielding her from the crowd. He was grateful that she knew that this was not the time to run her mouth.

"The rebel leader huh?" Halo muttered to himself. Then louder to the man. "Tydus was it?" Halo knew if he was going to get out of this, he needed to play smarter. "We clearly don't want to be here anymore then you want us to stay. And though my friend and I may have caused a brawl in your city, the blame doesn't fall completely on us." Halo glanced at the girl who Tydus had called Aaliya. "We just want to leave. How 'bout a little help?"

"As much as I want you out of here, it's not my call. The pathway is closed by now and I won't risk my people to take you back to where you belong, wherever it is" Tydus said as he glanced at Aaly "You may be in our territory, but you're none of my business nor you have established a relationship to be considered as it" He added before turning back and walking away, not before dispersing the crowd with a gesture on his part. The people looked back at them before entering their houses, the dangerous hour had arrived, and they that valued their lives went into hiding.

Soon there was only Crisis, Halo and Aaly on the street, and she planned to get going now "You better watch your back while you're here" She said as she took a step forward "Here's a tip for you.. Never trust a Rebel again" Her voice echoed in the now dark place as she resumed her march. She had changed completely by now, if before she had established a 'relationship' with them, now that she was back at home she regarded them as nothing but strangers. It was cruel, she knew, she had gotten them into that mess, but she hadn't force them to follow her and so she was not the only one to blame.

Still she herself didn't know why she had done that kind of thing... It was the first time she had done so. Nah, she wouldn't lie to herself. Actually she was curious, she wanted to see what would those guys do finding themselves under that situation, she wondered if they would even survive.. Yeah, it was twisted, she was aware of that. But being in that world of madness who really knew to draw a definite line between madness and sanity?

(Lol it's 'cause I couldn't come up with other things to say xD )

Halo was stunned. There they stood, all alone, in a place where he knew no one, and as he now found out, could trust no one. Halo ran a hand through his long black hair. This was bad, really, really bad.

Sniff, sniff.

Halo turned around to see that Crisis was crying. She must have wanted to do that from the moment she found out she was in District 2. But didn't want to appear week in front of the others.

"Are we going to die?" she asked between sniffs.

"What!?" Halo quickly asked. "No, of course not." Halo grabbed Crisis's shoulders and made his voice sound as calming as possible. "We're going to be fine. So no tears, okay?"

Crisis nodded and whipped at her eyes.

The two friends had been walking the street for about ten minutes now. The sun was going down and Halo noticed that no one was outside, which meant they need to find shelter fast. Halo sighed, he wasn't used to finding a place to crash before nightfall anymore. Years of living in a rich district had stripped him of all his survival skills, he needed to remember quick.

"You've got to be kidding me!" Crisis said out of nowhere.

Halo spun around thinking there was someone there. "What?"

Crisis held up her left hand. "My bracelet is gone, someone took it!"

Halo let out a small laugh, relived that nothing was really wrong. "Yeah that will happen in a place like this. We need to get off the street."

"Where?"

"I don't know..." Halo stopped to look around. "Up there."

Crisis looked at the tall building that Halo was pointing at and frowned. "That building?"

"Yeah, it has a flat roof. We can see more the higher we are and it's safer then sleeping on the street."

"That's right, we have to sleep in this dreadful place," Crisis wined. "When I find that bitch I'll kill her."

Halo smiled, happy to see that Crisis was back to her old self. "C'mon, the sun's going down."

"Have you gone mad!? What were you thinking when you brought them here!?" Trent yelled at Aaly as she sat down at her window's frame.

Aaly didn't look at him, instead, she stared at the moon. Always so pretty and the same no matter from which place she watched it. She understood her mistake, she said she was gonna take responsibility for it, couldn't they leave her alone? Those guys would even probably be death by the end of the weekend or even the night.

"Are you listening to me? Aaliya!" Her name echoed on her ears as she finally looked back at Trent. He was also a leader of xiii, however, she did not feel the respect she felt for Tydus towards him.

"I am" She said simply, staring at him blankly.

Trent's face turned red from anger "I. Want. You. To. Go. And. Keep. An. Eye. On. Them. Right. Now" His voice sounded low and threatening.

Aaly made a face but understood she couldn't refuse an order said like that. Nevertheless, it was out of habit that she complained "But they're not my problem! They followed me here! I didn't force them. Let them be.. It's not like people will miss them or anything like that, they are no body"

"Go!" Was the only thing Trent answered back.

Aaly blew her breath out strongly "Fine" She walked past him but didn't forget to take a few things with her. She would keep an eye on them, but she was not going to be acquiescent. She threw the hood over her head and headed out from the headquarters. Not without hearing, of course, her mates mocking her, but she did her best to ignore them, only one made her explode.

"Now you have done it, Aaliya" That comment made her even hear a buzzing noise on her ears. She let the leaders call her by her real name because she had no choice, but she was not going to allow an equal to address her like that. She turned and threw one of her daggers at the guy who had spoken to her, it ended up being thrust on the wall behind him, his cheek slightly bleeding "I dare you to call me that again!" She said in a cold voice. The guys just retreated saying she had just gone mad finally.

Aaly glared at them until she couldn't see them anymore, that's why she hated all of them. They just mocked her and even used to bullied her, never considering her a real member of xiii or even a citizen from District 2, only older people acknowledged her, and she was okay with that, she at least now could stand for herself even among her 'equals' because she was no weaker than them. When she was left all alone at the gates, she just turned around and walked back to the city, she had a mission.

Halo Stood on the edge of the building and looked out, keeping and eye out for anyone who approached.

"Did you know that the moon moves an inch and a half away from Earth every year?"

"I'm sure you told me that once," Halo said taking in a quick glance of the moon before returning his gaze back to the street. Where they lived it was almost impossible to see the moon, the towers were built so high. A small smile slipped on his lips, it had been a long time since Halo had stayed outside past nine.

"Should I call my farther?"

This time Halo turned away from his view to look at Crisis. She was laying flat on her back staring at he night sky. Her school bag laid beside her. "I don't think that's a good idea." Both of Crisis's parents were highly respected members of FlyBird, a world renown government company. It was built after the third world war as a beacon of hope and created the New World Order. "You want to tell your father, the strictest man I know, about how we skipped work and school to follow a rebel to District 2?"

Crisis sigh. "Yeah, maybe not a good idea, but I'm fresh out of them. Plus, we need to find a way to explain our three day hiatus because people will ask where we have been."

Halo grinned. "Then I guess we will just have to give ourselves a three day pass."

Crisis scoffed. "On what grounds?" It was very rare to get a one day government pass -or free day as it was called- but three? In a row?

"On the grounds that this day has been a real bust and we deserve it."

Crisis laughed. "Sounds good to me."

Crisis went into her bag and pulled out her d0t hack. Even though d0t hacks were illegal without a permit, Crisis never left the house without hers. She had spent years collecting, downloading, and writing proxy codes to put into her d0t hack to make it better, And now she could get herself into almost any unauthorized place she desired. When they were young Crisis would use it to get into the rec center after hours. She was a brilliant hacker and could scramble any d0t code she put her mind to.

Crisis held her d0t hack over Halo's right eye and scanned, his information instantly appeared on the small screen. Doing the same to herself, she got to work on giving them a three day pass.

"Ohh.. Quite an interesting thing you've got there" The voice of a man was suddenly heard from the dark. "Mind if we take a look?"

"Of course they won't, after all they have trespassed on our place. We deserve a compensation, don't we?" Another guy smiled as he showed himself. Soon more and more hooded men started to come up to the roof.

"Look at 'em. Whatcha doin' away from home?" At every word they muttered they took a few steps towards them.

Right there, under the moonlit, Crisis and Halo were soon surrounded. The guys, as it seemed, were armed and showed their pleasure at toying with their 'prey'. They moved all together, cornering the 'rich' guys, it would be an easy thing to do. They could struggle, even scream all they wanted, but no one would come in their rescue, if not because they didn't know them, it would be because they were also just too scared to even set foot outside their houses at that hour.

As they seemed to be getting ready to do their move, a hooded figure as them appeared just as suddenly as them and as quickly as it could managed to place a good kick on just a few of them, at least getting them away from Crisis and Halo. It stood there, between the two helpless guys and the muggers. It seemed as if it had been with the group all the time and just until it made sure of their intentions decided to act.

"What the f***! Who the hell are you?" An angered voice was heard from one of the man who had been kicked and right now was holding his sides in pain.

"F*** off. This is xiii problem. You're forbidden to lay a hand on these two" Aaly said with her low and calm voice, so calm that it gave the creeps.

"Shut your f****** mouth!" One of them yelled as he stepped out from the group and threw a fist at her, with the knife on his hand.

Aaly just tilted her head to the side, the knife barely touching her as the hood came off because of the impulse. Her whiter hair seeming apparently to glow under the moonlight, turning it almost silver. Her gaze was cold and composed.

"Oh, it's the 'intruder'. What? Wanting to help your fellow neighbors?" On everyone's faces a voracious look suddenly bloomed.

"This is Trent's order. If you want to kill them, fine by me. But, you won't be able to get away from it, Ulyses" She said and added a challenging smile to her comment, as if daring them.

The men hesitated, looking at the man whose name was Ulyses. His face went from defiant to scared, until he decided to just walk away. Trent had a worse reputation all over District 2, he was the one that worried the most about the people on the District, but he was also the most ruthless one. One order from him, was an unbreakable one. No one would be stupid enough to get against him. Not even low life muggers with 'nothing' to lose.

"Tch.. Suit yourself. A fake will always be a fake" The men slowly retreated, throwing a few more insulting word towards her.

Aaly clenched her fists at their comments but on her face the blank expression was never replaced.

Halo was grateful that the rebel had come back to save them. If she hadn't, Halo didn't want to think of the outcome. But Crisis didn't share the same views.

"Wow look who's here. And just why do you think we'd want to see your face ever again?" she spat.

Aaly didn't even look at her as she kneeled down on the floor, apparently picking something up. She sighed as she stood up, her fist closed. She put on her hood again, it was not like she wanted to see their faces either, and so she walked past them, not without stopping for a moment beside Crisis, extending her fist to her and then opening it, throwing something into the floor that made a metal like noise. That gang sure was quick, the girl had not been there for even 4 hours and they had already managed to steal a bracelet from her.

She sat down on the edge of the roof's building, leaning her back against an old antenna, her right leg hanging and swinging while the other one was stretched on the floor. She was meant to 'keep an eye on them' not to be nice or pay any attention to them. Why had they been stupid enough to follow her? She felt as if the ones to blame were them and not her and so she felt as if she was not willing to be nice. She would try to find a way to send them back to next day, right now, at that time, it was impossible for her.
