Tende altum, volare altius
Vaz's mood darkened with every word out of the male Ascended's mouth. He tried very hard to keep his temper. Half of his mind reasoned that the Ascended was genuinely offering help, but the other half could not deny the undermining, political agenda this man had, a fact that was displayed so blatantly by his jump to an infrastructure for the Vos.
"You dare." Vaz growled loudly, finally letting his anger show. Reyna looked behind her and clenched her teeth, if this was how Reksh'an looked 'a little bit angry' she'd hate to see one in a full rage.
"You dare disrespect the Council so openly as this? You threaten to send an Ascended fleet directly into Reksh'an space?!"
Vaz knew his people were no match technologically for the Ascended. They had only been a part of the intergalactic council for 500 years. The thought of an entire fleet worried him, which made him angry.
"You are arrogant and thoughtless. Further you spit in the face of the council members here by moving onto your people's vanity project!"
"Enough! I will have order!" Bretziz boomed, her melodious voice turning to thunder. Vaz shut his mouth but glared at Rune still.
"Honoured Mehrunes," The council mediator said softly, but her words were tight. "I respect the fact that this is the Ascended way, but you must take into account that it is not the way things are done by the council. We cannot authorize a single race fleet to enter controlled space of another species. Not without direct permission of the race in question."
"Which we will never give." Vaz stared Rune down with a firm expression.
Bretziz ignored him and continued. "Despite further complications of your proposed plan, the threat has not yet gone beyond attacks on single isolated ships or stations. This is not cause enough to mobilize a fleet. The force we are dealing with we can assume does not have the strength to chase larger targets and in effect may not even be intentionally hostile. Mehrunes, you are proposing we use a fist where what is needed is a surgical knife. That is why the Council has decided to put together a small inter-racial team to investigate this threat. That, esteemed Ascended is why you are here, because, as I need not remind you, you are not a member of this council, and do not have the right to propose your plans to the council unless it is through your sister, Solia. So I will hear no more of your plans for the Vos, this will be addressed during a regular session at the high council seat in the Central Quadrant."
Then she rounded on Vaz, "And neither are you a part of this council, you have that at least in common with Mehrunes, Vaz. If you insist on speaking out again I will have you physically removed from this room and barred from the mission."
Vaz looked abashed and lowered his head. He had also spoken out of turn he knew it.
"Now, if there will be no more delays, I would have each race introduce themselves and put forth their candidates for the expedition."
It was then Bretziz noticed the Spectralite, "proceed council member." She said evenly.
