(Lets Start!!!)

"Alright, class. Today we will be discussing the importance of characteristics. When writing stories, or anything in general, you must get into character." Mr. Hyde began the class off with that point. "Let's start with a setting, alright. Let's say that I'm writing about hiking, what is my character thinking and feeling?' he asked his class, as he walked around, going up and down the isles, waiting for his students to answer him, because he knew that he had students that knew how to wright. They were always bringing him joy, and giving him new experiences. He really did love his job.

Haley yawned as she listened to the science teacher. She slowly wrote down her notes, and tried to ignore the constant faces that were being made towards her. She rolled her eyes, and tapped her pencil on her desk. As she waited for more interesting, more like pointless information, she drew the gym. Then she put herself on the bars and beams, doing her routines. Haley lived and breathed gymnastics, and she id it almost every single day. She slowly stretched as she leaned back in her chair, and listened to the pointless commentary coming from their crazy science teacher.

Avery loved English and it was better this year. She didn't have to worry about switching schools, her dad was stationed here for the next few years. As Mr. Hyde started talking about characteristics, she knew she probably wasn't going to answer any questions. She never really did, unless he called her out directly. So when he started asking about hiking, she started to scribble out what she would put. About the crunching of the leaves under her feet and the small sounds the animals made.

Dane sat in science. He took notes, but also managed to whisper to his friends as well. He looked up once and saw one of his friends making a face at someone. He saw Haley seemed to be the target, so he tapped his friend and told him to knock it off. Bullying, even if it didn't seem to bother the person, never sat right with Dane. The teacher was kind of crazy but that helped him pay attention more.

"Alright, since none of you are sharing, I will have to pick out some of you. By selective choice." Sam's voice rang out through the classroom, he then began looking at all of his students, trying to find the one who would start the idea chain for the 'dead' class. He looked at all of the students, and then went back to Avery. "Ms. Avery, would you please share your ideas." he asked her, as he went up another isle, and watched as boys talked amongst themselves. "Boys, please stop talking. Because maybe, if you listen, you'll get smarter." he told them, before he stood by Avery. "Whenever you're ready." he told her, before showing a warm smile.

Haley looked back at the two guys, one was the guy who was making faces, and the other was Dane. She quickly turned towards the teacher, and began to actually pay attention when he started talking about odd pairings. "Class, I'm conducting an experiment, and each of you will have an assigned partner." he grabbed his list, and walked to the center of the room. He called off names, and then got to Haley. "Dane and Haley.. You guys are going to work on felxibility and if it is hereditary." then he went back to calling off names. Haley sighed, and then turned around. "Hello, partner." she said, with a huff.

Avery looked down, hoping he wouldn't call on her. Then he did. Of course, he would call on her. After the people stopped talking, she took a breath. Part of her said that she would somehow screw this up. "Um." She kept looking at her paper. People still thought she was pretty weird and very antisocial, but it wasn't her fault. "Feeling the crunch of leaves beneath your feet." She said.

Dane watched his friend leave to go find his new partner. When Haley turned to him, he smiled warmly. "Hey." He said. "Haley, right?" He asked. He knew it was, but he still wanted to make sure, in case she liked being called something else. He figured the flexibility thing could be kind of fun. He was pretty flexible himself.

"Yes, very good Avery. I can tell, you'll be a writer someday." Hyde told her, and then walked to the front of the classroom. "Anyways, that's all we have for today. I hope you have a good night at home, and be sure to work on your essays!" he told the classroom before the bell rang. That was the final bell of the day, so they could go home. Hyde sat at his desk, and began to work on the test. He yawned a little bit, and then waved goodbye to the students who were flooding out of the classroom.

Haley nodded, "Yes, as our teacher just said. I am Haley, and you are Dane.." she laughed and then returned a slight smile. "This is going to be a breeze, just come to my gymnastics practice with me. Our whole project will be over, and then we can return to our normal lives." she told him as the bell rang. She stood up, and looked down at him, "Unless your against gymnastics.. But I have practice, so whatever you wanna do... its up to you." she told him, before she grabbed her bag, then pushed in her chair.

Avery looked down again. She didn't want to be a writer, not that he really needed to know that. As class was ending, she pulled out her phone, seeing one message on it. The simple words her dad texted her sent her world crashing around her. 'Moving at the end of the year again.' Slowly she packed up her things and stood. She was the last one in the class as she stood. Everyone else had left, so slowly she walked out of the room.

Dane smiled a little more. "Well, some people like to be called other things, so I was making sure." He said. When she mentioned gymnastics, he thought it sounded like fun. "Yeah, I'll come." He stood up and grabbed his things when she did. "I always thought gymnastics was kind of interesting anyway." He smiled again.

Sam stood up, as he saw Avery look at her phone. "Avery, is everything alright?" he asked, asl he walked towards her. He hadn't seen a student walk that slow out of his class in ages. Either she was usually slow, or she was deep in thought. He placed a gentle hand on her arm as he waited for her answer. As a teacher, it was his job to be their for his students, even though he was only three years older then they were.

Haley nodded, "Okay, well anyways, just follow my car there; it's easy to spot so it won't be too hard for you to follow." She told him before she walked out of the classroom. She grabbed her bag out of her locker, shut her locker, then walked out to her car. She climbed in, changing into a sports bra and shorts, then started her car as she waited for Dane to get to his car.

Avery looked up at him a moment then quickly back down. "What? Oh, um, yeah." She said quickly. Trying to cover up the few tears, but it wasn't working. "Everything's okay." She added. "It's nothing." She was used to this, the disappointment of knowing she would have to move again. Why hadn't she seen it coming?

Dane smiled again. He moved to his locker and got what he needed. Then he went to his car, parked only a few spots from Haley. He threw his bag in the passenger seat and started his car. He thought Haley was kind of cute. So he was confused as to why people made fun of her. It wasn't like she was extremely different or anything.

Sam looked at her and then removed his hand, "If you say so, Avery. But even though I am a teacher, doesn't mean that I don't have feelings. Think of me as a friend who is three years older than you, because that is what I am." he told her, then gave her a reassuring smile. He then walked back to his desk and then sat down in his swivel chair.

Haley watched Dane, she then turned out of the parking lot. She drove down the street, and then parked in the parking lot at was infront of her gymnastics gym. She got out of her car, and grabbed her bag. She walked inside and then stood at the door. She still had to swipe her card, so she would wait for Dane. Sure, Dane was nice, but she wasn't going to let her guard down too soon.

Avery looked up at him again. It sucked going through it alone, but she felt like no one would understand. But she needed to tell someone, whether or not they understood. "It's my dad." She said when he had sat back down. "They're making him transfer at the end of the year again." What would he say to that?

Dane followed her and parked when she did. He grabbed his backpack and walked to where she was waiting. He could just see inside and it was amazed. "This place looks awesome." He said. "I've passed this place so many times but never really saw it before."

Sam looked at the young girl, he took a seat on the desk next to where she was sitting. He looked at Avery, taking in everything that she had just told him, and then began to speak. "Well, I can't say that I know what you are going through.. But I know that must really agitate you." he said, as he looked at Avery. "You neeld to talk about it?" he asked calmly.

Haley looked back at Dane, she swiped her card, and then signed in. She let Dane in as well, and then ran to the bleachers. She threw her bag on the seat, and then ran to the mats. She was the only person out there; they were the only two in the building. She stretched, and then started her routine. 1 2 3 4 and that was only the beginning.

Avery knew that he wouldn't understand, but she was shocked when he asked if she wanted to talk about it. Most people she told said it sucked and walked away. Why did she feel like she could talk to him? Either way, she didn't question it. "Not really agitate." She said. "I'm just sick of being the new kid, the freak, the loner." She sighed a little. "I thought that for once I could actually make friends and not worry about having to leave them for once. But he's transferring again, which means that even if I make friends, I won't see them ever again after we leave."

Dane followed her inside and sat on the bleachers. He took out a notebook and started to write down what she was doing. Or as much as he could anyway, he didn't know what any of the moves were called. Then he started to watch her more. She was really good and she looked really graceful out there.

"Now Avery, just because you're a new kid, does not mean that you are a freak. You are a very smart, and bright girl. Maybe you can stay here, with friends that you make." Sam told her, before he rubbed his forehead. "You seem a little scared, a little uneasy.. would you like to grab a coffee.. or a cookie?" he asked as he stood up, and then grabbed his bag. He looked back at her, smiled softly, and then began to wash the board.

Haley looked over at Dane, she shook her head, and then began to go to the bars. She stretched a little more, and then began to start. She loved showing off, especially when she knew what she was doing. 1 2 She finished, and smiled as she walked to the mats. She then began her floor routine, smiling as she started. 1 2

Avery looked down. "That's the general consensus though." She told him. "I'm a freak, mostly because I don't let anyone in." When he suggested coffee or a cookie, she shook her head. "Thank you, but no." She said quietly. "I need to get back now, but thank you sir." She told him.

Dan watched her move from one apparatus to another. It was amazing. Plus, she looked pretty when she smiled too. He got the feeling that she might be showing off a little, but if he could to that, he would too. He thought the floor routine was pretty cool. He wondered how long it took to learn.

Sam nodded he stood by the door, then opened it for Avery. "You need a ride? I'd you do, I can drive you home." He told her before he yawned a little bit and then continued to hold the door open for her. He rubbed his forehead, and then ran his fingers over his hair.

Haley finished her routine, and then ran over to the bleachers. She looked up at Dane, and sat down on the bench to look at him. "So, what do you think that we should start with for the project?" She asked him before she pulled her hair into a ponytail, then smiled softly.

Avery had grabbed her bag and then she shook her head. "That's okay." She said. "The base isn't that far." She lied, it was an hour walk from here. Normally the bases were very far from the schools she attended, but she didn't care. She just didn't want to burden him with having to take her home.

Dane smiled as she came over. "But first, you're good." He told her. "Like, amazingly good." He smiled more. "I thought soccer, volleyball, and baseball were hard. But you made those look like they were walking." Then he looked down. "As for the project, I have no idea. We have to do flexibility in the gene pool right?" He thought about it. "So maybe we can test your flexibility and mine and then our parents or something?"

Sam watched as she walked out of the room, "If you are sure, Avery." He said before he closed and locked the door behind them. He pulled his bag over his shoulder, and began to walk down the steps so he could get into his red pick up truck.

Haley giggled, "Thanks, I've been training for the past three years. But I am really not that good." She told him, doubting her talent. She rubbed her forehead, then stood up. "Sounds good.. so, what should I do? Backbends, splits, feet behind my head?" she asked him, as she took a seat on the hard floor, looking up at Dane, waiting for his response

Avery nodded a little. "I'm sure." She held onto the strap of her bag and put her music in as she began to walk. An hour was a long time to go in silence. She wondered why he seemed to care so much, not many people did.

Dane smiled. "Well, you're talking to a guy that can barely do a handstand." He told her. "Either way, you're amazing." He stopped when he mentioned things. "Whoa whoa whoa." He put his hands up. "Can you at least give me a fighting chance of doing these things?" He asked with a smile. "Or my poor parents?"

Sam nodded and then climbed into his truck, he started the old thing up, and then started to drive home. He continued to think about Avery, hoping that she was going to be alright. He eventually got home, and walked through his door. He then flopped on the couch, and then looked up at the ceiling.

Haley fell on her back, laughing. She quickly stopped laughing and sat up; she absolutely hated her laugh. She stood up, and then held her hands out to him. "Come on, let's start." She said with a super sweet smile. She looked at the ground and then at her feet, this was going to be fun.

After a very long time walking, Avery was back on the base. Where it was extremely normal to see men in camo throwing footballs back to kids in the street. She got to her house and walked in. She went to her room and started her homework.

Dane smiled at her laugh. "Why did you stop laughing?" He asked. "Please tell me it's not because I'm not as funny as I think I am?" He took her hands and got off the bleachers. "So we are doing something that I have a shot of doing, right?" He asked hopefully.

Sam yawned, he looked at the clock, and then shot up. He walked into the kitchen, and grabbed a book before he began to make his dinner. He read the book while stirring the macaroni, then sat on the couch after he had finished making the dinner.

Haley felt her cheeks heat up, she looked away, and then looked back. She debated on telling him why she had stopped laughing. "Um... Because I hate my laugh.." She told him before she pulled Dane out to the mat. "Yes, we are starting with a bridge. It shouldn't be too hard." She explained with a wink. She then got onto her back, and looked up at Dane with a smile.

Avery at the dinner her dad made in silence. She didn't want to talk to her dad right now. When they were done, he kept trying to explain how it was a good thing. So she hopped on her bike and started riding. She made it to the town and off the base, she just kept riding.

Dane shook his head. "I don't think it's that bad." He said. Actually it's kind of cute. He thought. When she explained they were doing the bridge, he nodded a little. "As long as you think I can do it."

Sam walked out to his front yard, he bought the reports out and began to read them while he ate his dinner. He said hello to his neighbors and then began to grade the papers. He yawned and laid on his stomach as he got his pen out.

Haley smiled and did her bridge, and then kicked over, she looked at Dane and then wrapped an arm around his shoulders. "All you have to do is the first part, don't worry about the kick over." She told him before she winked and removed her arm with a smirk.
