Edwin Valencia had not the fortune to sit at the window on their plane trip into Seattle, Washington. The auburn-haired man couldn’t help but shoot his “sister” a rueful look as the fair-skinned woman leaned against the wall of the plane and watched the city pass beneath them. “How long do we have to be here?” He asked her.

Lucia Valencia lifted one shoulder up in a shrug. “As long as it takes.” And their kind could be unfortunately slow at deciding things. “That is why Vincent sent us.” Their ‘father’ had other things to do. It was why they considered themselves siblings—they were turned by the same vampire. They had never been related by blood.

They did look alike. She, also, had auburn hair. Though it had been long once, she had cut it short—shorter than his, to be in the popular ‘pixie style’. It fit her, even if it never would have been seen in her time. Edwin’s hair was longer, a bit waved, and it fell to his shoulders. He still looked Victorian.

Their eyes were different, though. Edwin’s hazel eyes looked almost gold, and her eyes were turquoise. When the plane came to a stop in the airport, their height difference was also obvious. She was a mere 5’1”, and Edwin, 6’. He helped remove her things from the overhead compartment, and then let her slide out and exit the plane ahead of him. They picked up their luggage, chatting a little. “Who even called this meeting?”

“Sebastian,” Lucia wrinkled her nose in disgust. Sebastian was no friend. “Why he chose America, I’ve no idea.”

“I heard that those here aren’t adjusting well to the old rules.”

Lucia shrugged, “Then they can be purged.” Edwin managed not to react to those words. He knew that Lucia came from a very different time in vampire society, when dissidence wasn’t tolerated.

Her heels clacked on the tiled floor to the sidewalk outside. There was a man with a sign for them, and Lucia greeted him kindly, and told him to take them first to their hotel, and to wait there. They would not be long—they would need to head to the meeting place, after all.

The man agreed, took their bags, and let the siblings slip into the back of the limousine. With age, came wealth, and the Valencia were an old line of vampires. Lucia relaxed once the partition went up. “We’ll need to change quickly,” she said, giving Edwin a once over. “We look as if we’ve traveled.”

“Do I?” He had hoped it would be unnecessary. It was why he dressed in a suit for the trip, after all. “Drat.” He let his head hit the back of his chair and he exhaled. He pushed a hand back through his hair. “It’s going to be a long night…any Romans?”

“Probably.”

A louder groan escaped Edwin. Romans meant debate. He hated debate.
