Top and Top

Tri didn't expect a question back to his proclamation. He met Caio's gaze blankly, the firm look that perpetually pierced deep the eyes it met. There were a lot things he could say, but nothing felt just right. Thankfully, he didn't have to choose.

The kiss pulled them close and shut. Tri returned the kiss with as much valor, as much force that his lips and all within received. It felt nice. Sometimes words were nice, sometimes it was good to not have to say many words.

Tri held onto the back of Caio's head, his fingers ran against the sharp hair down to the nape. Cold was no longer an issue as their limbs entangled under the blanket once more, heartfelt in the depth of the morning. Rather, the heat became a problem.

A saliva bridge felt where Tri pulled away. His breath was heavier. The raising heat was really a problem and he could feel it still rising.

"You are hot now. And sexy." Tri paused. "And me too."

Night of the Raptor

The salty breeze of New Oasis caressed the hooded figure standing on the beach. Khydnah's grayish skin blended with the dimming twilight as she gazed out at the expanse of the ocean. The rhythmic sound of crashing waves seemed to sync with the beating of her patient heart.

Her long, sharp nails traced patterns in the sand as she waited, hood obscuring most of her face. The amber glint of her eyes remained fixed on the horizon. The foreign robe draped around her tall, frail frame whispered secrets of distant lands, and aged jewelry adorned her like fragments of a forgotten history.

The arrival of a Sable Serpent was imminent, a crucial piece in her intricate game. She ad requested assistance from any of her fellow Serpents to accompany her to the Mourning Hollows, and Khydnah's mind was already a labyrinth of schemes. She felt it. Another one of her old Khyn lives. When she looked further and discovered new reports from across to Britonnia, it all but confirmed which among them she had felt in her mind. The locals of the Mourning Hollows took to calling it the "Owlman", a plain but fitting name.

As the tide ebbed and flowed, Khydnah pondered the complexities of her plan. The Serpents she awaited would be key to retrieving one of her lost Khyn, a mysterious connection from ages past. Another small step towards regaining her lost might. Even in the hushed whispers of the sea breeze, she could almost hear the call of her Khyn.

“Is that a bad thing? I find the moon quite enchanting. I wouldn’t mind seeing it so often,” she gestured to her bandana, “but, unfortunately, it resides on my head!” She smirked, studying Hifumi to see if he found it funny, too.

After a moment, she pushed herself up off the ground. Her eyes trailed across the thicket until they caught onto a box tucked just behind a tree. “I’ve got snacks over here!” With a little half-jog, she made her way over to it.

She crouched down next to the wooden cooler and opened it up. Within it were layers of partially-melted ice, and tucked between those was a wooden bird call in the shape of a swan— smoothly sanded down and cool to the touch—along with different vegetables for Percy.

It was handy having a cooler over here, since the home was still a good walk away.

She pulled out the bird call and gave it to Hifumi. “Can you call him over? It’s just like any other whistle!”

Her hands continued digging through the ice to grab a bag of peas. She picked up a single piece of ice, too—popping it in her mouth—before closing the cooler and walking back to the edge of the lake. She kneeled there, waiting for Percy to come to shore with a smile.

Bafflement, he liked that. Tri kept his calm and cool smile (at least that's what he thought he looked like) as Hector fumbled. He was the master in control and Hector the hotheaded and rash rookie who didn't know any better. Even the women left him. More visual impact at their contrast and his superiority.

"This isn't your home either, little bird."
Tri let Hector took his glass. He even extended his arm so it could be taken more easily. He had no idea what to do with it, so giving it away felt like a good move.

It also attracted attention away from the gun he drew with his other hand, now pointed right at Hector's face.

"So end this facade before someone goes asleep, capush." Tri had a wide grin as he mispronounced capiche. The gun was not a gun in the traditional sense; it shot pingpong-sized projectile that exploded into strong and green sleeping gas. Not enough to knock a HP out immediately, but a little drowsiness and smoke would be enough for a cool and masterful escape.

Don’t know. Maybe it was the way the woman was still trying to save face despite the news, or maybe it was the dissonance between her expression and her tone of voice, but something about it was just… sad to Kiwi. Much sadder than just watching someone bawl their eyes out.

Kiwi frowned. Not out of empathy, though. Well, it was— but that wasn’t the feeling it gave off. It felt like… disappointment.

That quickly faded away as the frown turned to a slight smile. “Y’ain’t gotta do that…” but she wasn’t going to stop her. “I appreciate it, girly.”

She thought for a moment before shrugging. “Maybe just some orange juice. N’ a blueberry scone.”

Her eyes averted from the server’s gaze as she returned her attention out to the street. When they stepped away, she looked back to Passeri.

“I ain’t gonna take up too much of ya’ time. I’m sure you’re busy, yeah? I’ll be outta your hair quick,” she nodded. “But, if we’re havin’ brunch, might as well talk, right?”

She paused.

“........Your friend… you gonna go lookin’ for her?”

Kiwi was a bit nosey. But really, could you expect otherwise, knowing who she worked for?

TOO MANY WORDS
Her frown pulled into a sly smile as he very reluctantly agreed to clean up. Sure, the yelling made her eyes water and her hands turn cold, but it was still funny. She suppressed a little laugh as he began bolting about the place, picking up the trash littered around.

She slunk behind the wall and reentered her home office. What was convenient nowadays was that you didn’t have to play on a console for lots of games anymore. With the cloud ever present, you could simply stream the game from the console to the computer. Easy peasy.

That did mean that the game was already downloaded on her console, though. Even though she had said otherwise, the only thing she was grabbing from her room was her controller.

And an answer to Tak’s question, as he yelled through her walls. She would’ve responded immediately, but instead, her shepherd, Zygarde, started yelling too.

Heh.

She raised her voice over the barking, “YOU MIND FEEDIN’ ‘EM? I BET THEY’RE HUNGRY.”

With the controller in tow, she stepped out from the hallway. “Shhh, boy. Quiet.”

The dog stopped barking and hopped off the couch, making its way to the kitchen and waiting patiently. Buttermilk quickly followed suit.

“I’ll get tha’ game started. Dog food’s just in that cabinet over there…” she made a vague gesture in the direction of the food. “Oh, and, to answer your question… you ain’t never heard of pre-ordering?”

She turned on the tv and connected the controller, relaxing on the soft couch that was now free of dogs. “If you want a copy quick, you gotta order way before it comes out. S’just how it goes.”

God… She looked terrible.

It was… scary. Scary seeing someone you loved like this. Scary knowing that this could’ve happened to anyone...

Kiwi didn’t visibly acknowledge Passeri’s comment on the hospital air. She knew well what hospitals were like. Sterile. Cold. A place of comfort and yet still a place of inherent unease.

She was never in one for very long, though.

What was long and uneasy, however, was the distance between the question Kiwi had asked and Passeri’s answer. Kiwi’s downcast stare towards her only deepened the longer the question remained in the air.

When she was finally given one, her eyes met the floor.

A manic fan?

Kiwi couldn’t decide how to feel about Passeri’s response.

Anyone could be a manic fan of anyone… normal people could get stalked just as famous people could… Murderous stalkers existed for anybody. Especially considering the amount of lunatics and gang members in this city.

Her lips pressed together. Her hands were cold.

The pause before the answer was so long. And Passeri sounded so unsure. Was there a chance she was wrong? That she hadn’t recalled accurately?

And was it selfish to think of your own perceived safety over your friend’s real safety and comfort?

She looked up at Passeri’s face. Kiwi’s eyes stung. They were dry now.

Despite her friend’s attempts to move them off of the subject, Kiwi was still glued to it.

She just needed to be sure.

“We can talk about that in a sec, ‘Seri…” she paused, “...Are… you… sure that’s why?”

What the Dirt Remembers
What a dumb question.

“What a dumb question,” Rem said, her brows furrowing in confusion. Just a moment ago, she was so joyous in the way she looked. Why was she so anxious now? What changed?

She figured it out as soon as the questions had popped into her head.

Rem remembered many times over the way people’s faces changed when she told them. Her memory wasn’t so special when it was just a superpower. She hadn’t built up the skill herself, it was given to her at birth. That wasn’t as astonishing.

So she felt very neutral about the whole thing. Really, she didn’t even understand how people could be shocked— her memory was inhuman, and she never chose to hide the fine details unless it was necessary.

It was especially strange for one to be anxious about it. Scared.

That wasn’t as common as the neutrality or the surprise.

Rem stared at Hiachi, the crosshairs burning into her as she contemplated.

But she had already decided as soon as she had opened her mouth.

“It’s my potential, Hiachi,” she finished.

“I thought you knew?”

As someone among the usual “pick-up crew,” Rem remembered to be on time today. Early, in fact.

She stood idly behind a tree a little ways from the pier, leaning against it. Her phone was providing her the entertainment she needed to pass the time away as she waited for the others to show up.

Second passed after every second. Being aware of time made it so, so slow, and thus Rem didn’t like waiting.

At least she had her phone.

Rem had also remembered that the number of crates they had received the past couple of times was unexpectedly short. Of course, being one of the druggies on the mission, she was one of the suspects— but it wasn’t her. And frankly, it was getting to be annoying, being accused of it.

This time, supposedly, they were going to be accompanied by Crawler himself and some other person today. That other person was Tar— which she’d figured out by the sound of their car being parked nearby.

She opted not to move from the shade of the tree. Apparently, they didn’t see her.

Light peeked through the leaves and turned into patterns on the ground. They shifted rhythmically, an easy pulse to distract from the passage of time.

For another 22 minutes, Rem waited silently.

An unexpected shuffling of leaves caused Rem to look up from her phone. Her eyes darted about the bushes to find the source of the sound; an unfortunate decision, as she’d made eye contact with the huge centipede trying to hide.

She stared at it.

…After the initial shock wore off, she stepped out of the foliage and into the clearing. It wasn’t bothering her, and she was pretty sure it was Crawler’s anyway. No point in getting upset about it.

“I walked here and I was earlier than you, just so you know,” she said, the crosshairs in her eyes landing on Vance. They shifted over to Teddie, accompanied by a short wave.

“Hey, you. She smiled. Was that poison, or candy on her tongue?

(The answer was neither.)

Even without alcohol clouding his judgement, the smile still pissed him off. He snatched the glass from Tri’s hand and crushed it in his fist. The glass shards couldn't penetrate his skin, and crumbled to the ground. He wished that it was Tri’s skull.

“It's more mine than yours.”

As much as he wished it hadn't, the gun made Hector flinch a little, and as much as he wanted to say he wasn't afraid of it, it threatened him away from attacking. He knew this guy was crafty, and he didn't want to risk ending up on the wrong side of whatever he concocted this time. He had to play things cool, bring him off the defensive.

”Alright, alright. Let's be civil.”

Hector grabbed a chair that had been knocked over in the ensuing chaos, dragging it over to where there was once a table. He sat, arms folded, and looked to Tri.

”Are you getting ambitions beyond your borders then, or are you really just here to enjoy a drink?” Rather than being territorial and aggressive, he posed the question as someone who was just inquisitive and caring about what was in the serpent’s head. It was a little forced, Hector concentrating his agitation into the tapping of his foot on the ground, but he seemed to be at least a little sincere as well. He wasn't buying any innocuous excuses as to what the King was doing here, even if Hector was only here for leisure too.

He wasn’t keeping up with the speed of these fists being thrown at him. He’d like to think he was doing well but that was just a lie. He would block one only to get socked by another and the only thing keeping him together was the fact that he was clearly not losing without a fight. Yet when it came down to major blows he managed to deflect them enough to protect him from damage that would take him all the way out of the fight. Unfortunately, that didn’t change the fact that the other was just downright faster as he felt a fist to the face.

He held his now bloodied nose gasping in pain but having been used to this enough to keep singing through the pain. He took the moment to strike out at the other's neck with his dominant hand aiming for the joints believing them to be weaker by necessity of needing to be mobile. Yet this left him open to the strike to his own knee folding under the pressure of the hit.

His mouth was covered by the other and it was fairly clear this would likely be the match’s conclusion. Still, he didn’t want to go down without a fight so he bit as hard as he could into the scales. Really they should have come up with the terms of a loss before they started but he wasn’t used to actually sparing with many others. With his mentor, Lorrin always chose the win-and-loss conditions.

Winning was boring? Either he was a master cheat and he’d yet to be caught by any of their discerning eyes or worse, he really was just that good. She’d only met a few on her level before, Hiachi being the most prominent. She wasn’t above cheating to get her way though. First, she needed to gauge his actual skill though. He was clearly smart so games of luck might be better but it wasn’t quite a dealer versus the player in those. She hid her frown under her customer service smile.

“Oh? I’m so sorry to hear my coworker’s skill wasn’t up to par. You’ll find I have quite a bit of experience with him.”

She cut the deck and handed it to the other to shuffle. Typically the dealer should be the one to shuffle but if he’d been winning by cheating this would be the time to catch him. Besides it was easier to slide a card into a deck when it was returned to the first rather than when a shuffle happened.

She didn’t pay much attention to the poor soul who’d been KO’d by the violence against the robot. As expected the Casino cared more for the cash than the individual. They’d be thrown in medical and out by the morning.

“Well I sure hope I can be an entertainment for you Mister Pi-Pi-Pei!”

She’d seen his reaction to the nickname and hoped that it might draw out a carelessness to his game. Psychological warfare was just as important when it came to a game of bluffing as actual skill. Her smile though picture perfect was just a hair off of a smirk as she spoke again.

“Since I shall be entertaining you today. What game did you want to play?”

A strike to the neck was actually a tactical move, considering it is a weakspot. However, in Llyod's case right now, it is merely weaker, not weak. Scales still cover his neck, though differently than non-joint areas, it still provides proper protection while maintaining mobility. In short, the hit to the neck was not effective enough to stop him in his tracks, but it was definitely a smart move.

When Lloyd's hand covered Jackson's mouth, he wasn't phased when he bit down on his hand. Yet, with the scales also covering his hand, it doesn't really cause any pain aside a bit from the pressure applied. Even then, the fact that Jackson's Potential now wore off meant that he still felt relief more than being bit in his hand. But now the attacks had stopped, Lloyd wasn't throwing any more punches or kicks.

Instead, he begins to speak calmly, "From where I stand, the match has been decided. From this point I could do several things to take your life. I could break your windpipe and have you slowly drown in your own blood, or I could punch your sternum so hard that it breaks and the broken bones tear your lungs and heart, or I could simply break your neck; just to name a few possibilities. However, this is a sparring match, so that will not happen. Now, if you would release my hand from your mouth, the match is concluded."

Normally open to playful banter and jest, he was now but a vulnerable victim, deeply hurt by her mere suggestion, EVEN if Popcorn was now but a lowly traitor. You know I think you would make for great company at the movies" all the while the man wasn't skimping on the scritches.

Outside at the balcony, Siru smiled as he gazed at the beautiful view in front of him, oh and the scenery as well, he supposed. He made sure that he kept himself near the entrance, not wanting to risk the little one's safety by getting concerningly close to the edge. "Haha, is that so? Might be good to keep in mind, then, would rather not have you locking me up at the store next time" He teased at his partner before giving her a playful wink.

Meanwhile, the Detective sat on the couch with his arms crossed, an expression in his face that the most talented of Eric scholars might discern as a frown. He awaited paitently for the couple's return, the promise of good food being the silver lining to this nightmarish evening.

"Meow"

Eric turned to the side, his keen senses once again defeated by the stealthiest of beings, the one lord of the shadows whose presence was never made known without her initiative. Neatly formed into a loaf, Maya, the alpha of the clowder, sat atop the couch's arm rest, nonchalantly staring at her owner.

Eric took a peek at his dealt hand, a king of clubs alongside a nine and a jack, an incredibly strong start. If this whole set up was made to be a scam, and that was most definitely the case, no doubt about it, then such an advantageous head start was something worth noticing. Regardless, whether it was just pure luck or not, Eric's eyes went slightly wider for a moment, pretending to let his fake inexperience show, although keeping it subtle enough to not rise any sort of double suspicion.

"You shouldn't sell yourself short like that, maybe you're actually a real pro in the making" He said, his hand reaching for his poket, rummaging through his wallet to reach for one more amestriyen coin, then placed it confidently on the table to raise the bet. "Name's Danny, by the way, nice to meetcha Juliet" uttered as he replaced one of his useless cards with a new draw. He eyed at the players around him, one of them seemed like complete amateur, frustration drawn all over her face with little respect for the game's etiquette, the other two seemed more confident and seasoned, almost scoffing at his pathetic raising of the bet.

Even if Eric didn't care much about making a profit out of this game, but he still needed to play well in order to stay around as much as possible. The longer he played, the more his eyes could scan the area and the people, therefore gaining more chances at spotting any proof of trickery at play. New Oasis, being the chaotic city it was, had quite the relaxed laws towards public gambling of this kind, so if he wanted to take any action, he would need to prove that things were not being played in a squeaky clean manner.

He felt like he was being toyed around with. More than anything it was like he was being treated like a misbehaving kitten. He stopped his biting of Lloyd’s hand. He was let go of slowly and didn’t even bother to get up as he enjoyed laying on the floor taking the moment to catch his breath. He probably should get back up to at least not have the taste of his own blood traveling down his throat, but a nosebleed wasn’t his biggest issue.

Lorrin had found someone dangerous. It was impressive how efficent his fellow rookie was. By all rights he should be able to have somewhat of an advantage since his song was clearly doing something to the other under all that armor. Then again he hit like a truck and was faster than any person Jackson had faced before.

“You’re pretty fucking terrifying when you’re in the zone. So you always so one track mind or can we chill now?”

He forced himself to sit up getting tired of the taste of blood. Luckily enough it seemed to be letting up already. He still felt sore all over though and was more than ready to hit up Dragon HQ for some relaxation and first aid.

Once Jackson let go of his hand, Lloyd stands back up straight again. Seeing as Jackson wasn't feeling it to get up just yet, Lloyd let him lay there for a bit. Instead he goes over to the suitcase he had chained to the side of the bridge, taking it off and back over to Jackson while listening to him talk. "You can relax, the match is over," he answers as he opens the suitcase so the both of them can retrieve their belongings.

Lloyd thinks about Jackson's question for a moment, which seems a bit odd to him.
"Why would I not want to join those who maintain order and peace in this district? Phoenixes' district has gone to ruin under their rule, the Tigers are all about schemes and materialism, and those goddamn Serpents are a fucking blight wherever they set foot." Mentioning the Sabel Serpents clearly angered Lloyd, making it safe to assume for anyone that he has nothing but hate towards them.

"The way I see it, the Azure Dragons are the only good group this city has, you could see that on the news for years. And sure, I may be a rookie still, but I am far from useless to the Dragons, I make sure of that. I've already made certain some of those damn Serps can never set foot in this district again. And to be honest, sparring with fellow is another way of making contributions. To me at least." Lloyd speaks calmly about his reasoning to be part of the Azure Dragons, yet his tone also holds a certain conviction, however faint or prominent it may be.

He then puts his sweater back on before continuing to speak.
"Anyway, get your stuff from the suitcase and let's get you checked out. I may have been pulling my punches and used my Potential minimally, but that doesn't mean there couldn't be any unmeant damages. We can talk more on the way to HQ, and after you've been cleared by a medical professional."

YOU KNOW THE RULES, AND SO DO I
As it was expected, the Phoenix Queen was capable of striking back even when put in a disadvantageous situation, the razor-sharp hunk of steel aiming for his legs. Eric's footwork was nothing to scoff at, but at such a short distance it was impossible to make a clean evasion. His leg moved back just enough to turn what could've been a dismembering into just a gash. He grit his teeth, fighting through the stinging pain and jumping backwards.

"Okay, wasn't expecting that, guess there's more fighting spirit in that boney body of yours than I expected" His left hand grew a new sphere of light-blue energy, quickly growing in size until it reached about a meter in diameter. A clear day like this one, free of clouds and with the sun shining down with all of its might, gave Eric a nearly limitless amount of energy to play around with, capped solely by his own stamina. "But still, if you think a scrape like that is gonna scare me, then I'm gonna make you understand" He thrust his arm up wards, a volley of light arrows shooting up in the sky in quick succession, shrinking the sphere until it was cosumed.

He dashed forward with his ethereal weapon in hand, slicing at Hector once more. "I'm never gonna give you up, buddy"

Hector's bitter demeanor towards Eric's playfulness made only made the Detective want to tease the queen even further, the pain was worth it.

He didn’t realize the one he was talking to was so deep in the dragon’s dogma. It wasn’t like he disliked the dragons himself but he had less ties to it than any of the other dragons he met. Which might be because he knew various tigers which were just fine to him.

But if there was one thing he could agree on it was the serpents being a blight upon the entire city. He found himself agreeing wholeheartedly nodding along as the other spoke of serpents. Which probably surprised no one who knew how he got in.

“Heard you on that one. Serpents can go to fucking hell and I’ll drag them there myself.”

Still the very fact that Jackson was still in the dragons pretty much settled them as “not perfect” to him. After all they basically let him in with little question as to why he was beating serpents to kingdom come. Sure ain’t none of them had been saints but not all of them fought back either having seen his fair share that did nothing but run.

He contemplated it all as the other went to put his sweater back on. It was clear that shock fell over Jackson’s face as the other spoke once again. HOLDING BACK?

“Dude if that’s you holding back I’m damn glad you’re on my side. I’m going to be feeling this all day at least.”

He stood to his knees slightly shakey but still more than capable of supporting himself. He grabbed his shit out of the bag and went to throw an arm around the other.

“Gonna have to show me how you really let loose one of these days. From the sidelines of course.”

FRIENDS WHO SLAY TOGETHER STAY TOGETHER

“Very pleasant, very pleasant.” Teddie held his arms out in greeting, a no-contact hug as he watched Celeste process the surprise visitor. He was hoping for more joy, perhaps even excitement. This was a big favour they were doing, bodies were usually expensive to buy and she was getting one for free.

“Oh.”

Eliza looked at Teddie, and Teddie looked at Eliza. They both looked down at the body. Both hoped someone could provide some information, but the thought hadn't even crossed their mind. It was a guy they found in the East so of course he's a Dragon, right? And if he's a Dragon, surely he's the one who killed Jozef. The logic all added up.

“Yeah-”
“I don't know if he's a fucking Dragon.”
“Eliza! We found him in the East.”
“Hmm, he's prolly a Dragon then.”

Eliza took Carlisle from Celeste, kissing her gently before kneeling down beside the body.
“Do you think this is a Dragon, Carly?”
Carlisle was brought up close to the man’s bloody face, and she recoiled, trying to squirm out of Eliza’s grip.
“See, she don't like him, he must be a Dragon. What a smart girl.”

Teddie saved his daughter from the body by kicking it away from her.
“The game would be more fun if he was awake. Wake up, wake up.” The man didn't stir, some consolation for the torture he'd be put through. “I wanted to let you have your revenge. Our revenge. For James.”
“Jozef, darling.”
“Jozef~”
“But he ain't playing nice, he's all worn out I think.”
“You could kick him till every bone breaks.”
“Or we could roast him. You've not gone vegetarian on us, have you Celeste?”

While the couple went back and forth, Carlisle focused her attention on the man, whimpering as she reached out despite her disgust. The man moaned a bit in agony, some blood trickling out of his mouth. Teddie and Eliza didn't seem to notice, as they'd begun discussing barbecue plans.

“What, and mar your complexion with scars?” Elise scoffed, but the amused smirk that had crept across her face, a far more natural expression than any smile she forced, seemed to imply that she was trying her hand at humor again. “I’d stay away from them as much as possible. ‘Sides,” she picked up one of the lighter furnishings, and set it down beside their earlier load, “they don’t talk much to people like…the Tigers. We don’t tend to interact a lot with our betters. Out of fear, most of the time. Not all of them are like me. Try to keep their heads down, out of sight, out of mind.” She exited the store, dusting her hands. “Better to stay invisible, than to risk getting kicked while they’re down, or worse, being taken advantage of. Patchworks aren’t much different. Who’s to say their work, life-saving or not, won’t come and bite them in their asses in the future?”

She leaned against the doorframe beside the Princess, noting her eyes wandering to her bottle. Still thirsty, huh? “It’s all about rapport. Those at the bottom of the trash heap know they won’t hurt another. We’re all trying to keep our heads above the water, after all. But the ones on their boats, sailing across the seas in safety? Can’t be sure if they’re going to push us under.” She set her bottle down beside the Princess, and waved at her to take it. “Can’t ever be too sure…” she trailed off, her thoughts suddenly mired by doubt.

“A fight club?” Elise chose to shake the feeling from her head, her expression shifted into one of incredulity. She hadn’t been to many concerts, not as part of the audience, but she was still sure that those weren’t supposed to take place in locations where blood was spilled. “Acid?!” her tone shot up by an octave. “Hell’s teeth, what the fuck were you doin’ in a place like that?” Her thoughts suddenly flew to the time she had taken leave of the Princess’ concert, all to deal with some rubbish deal that Knight and Pharm could have handled on their own, and she grit her teeth. It could have turned out a lot worse. She should have been there, instead of driving off. Weiss had dragged her out there, but she wished he hadn’t.

The scowl returned, and she, wordlessly, moved over to the table that the Princess had indicated. “I’m…” she started, paused, then shook her head. “Nevermind. Let’s get this done, and then we can take a break.

“About tha’ same amount of time it takes to get lunch square here!”

Kiwi slammed her hand on her desk, her other hand covering her mouth as she roared out in laughter. Honestly, it lasted a few seconds longer than any sane person would’ve let it.

Once she finally stopped laughing, she glanced towards the clock on her laptop.

“Ahhh… yeah.. Huh.” She leaned forward to get a closer look. “Yeah, it has been an hour. Damn.” Come to think of it, she was pretty hungry, too.

It’d only been, what, less than a week? since she let these guys in her—not hers, his—office, and one of them had already gone missing.

At least she prepared?

She leaned back in her chair with a squeak. Luckily for them, Kiwi put a camera on Johnny— just in case anything happened. A win for paranoia, really.

She blinked, and suddenly she could see all around Johnny.

It was a dark garage, with a single lamp shining overhead. Johnny didn’t seem to be tied up, but he did seem to be locked inside as he was banging on the garage door.

The camera slightly turned to find two chairs illuminated by the lamp. In front of them was a tripod holding a camera, seemingly intending on taking a video. Bound so tightly in the chairs that they couldn’t possibly escape were the tanned heroes that were—

“OUR FUCKEN’ SANDWICHES! THEY TOOK ‘EM HOSTAGE!”

She blinked back into her real view with an offended, but pointed, look on her face that was directed towards Lazlo.

“Can you fucken’ believe that!?”

Wide eyes. So he knew a bit about the game. Though he had a horrid poker face. Good cards only for you as far as you could take them. She took two of her strongest cards, a pair of jacks, and set them together to toss. She needed to keep it like she knew one or two things but still made some foolish moves.

“It’s hard to keep it all straight though! I’m impressed that people can make a living off this.”

She drew two cards to replace the ones she dropped. Now instead of a three of a kind and a pair she held a three of a kind solo. She’d surely lose this one so long as Eric dropped the right cards. As she did she raised the bet putting another amestriyen into the pot.

“I’ve only really played every once in a while with my sister…How long have you played Danny?”

She was hoping that keeping the conversation going wouldn’t kick him off his game. Naturally, she wanted him to think that’s what she was trying to do. It was perfectly normal to try to win after all.
