Futuristic new earth

"Wow. That's deep. I guess now that we're limited on humans, you can't really do that any more. The only thing you knew is gone. Now your forced to do the opposite and protect people. That must be hard. I thought I had it bad." Nichole replies as she also looks down, saying the last part a little quieter.

Saphire stifled a sarcastic smile. It wasn't as bad as all that, though. "I don't know quite what to do with myself, true. But I'm still glad to be out of that life. Humanity to me was a big mistake, so the hardest thing is realizing that I might be able to help correct it." She'd lived for so long with the knowledge that she was doing good by eliminating the easily corrupted humans that protecting a mostly-innocent crew was baffling.

"Yeah. I didn't really have any to tell me how to think. My dad hardly ever was around but when he was he was... Strict." Nichole replies.

Justin woke up after having a long nap. gee it felt great I never thought I would have a nap that good in forever. Well, I might just hang out in my room since I have nothing to do right now.

"Yeah... That's what happened to my mom. One day while I was at school they got into a big argument while he was drunk. Things got out of control and when I came in he had a bloody knife in his hand and he was covered in blood and she was laying on the ground with a bullet on her head. I was around 10 at the time." Nichole reveals quietly.

Saphire paused, looking up at the girl with what was almost pity. "I see. No wonder you freak out at the idea of hurting something." She'd have been like that too, if it were not for her sister forcing her to use a weapon. "Do you want to get over it?" If she did, Saphire'd do what she could. It would be a worthy goal, and something Nichole would need on the new earth. If not she'd never mention it again.

"Yea. I would. I would really like to be able to protect myself but whenever I try to even touch a weapon my mind just goes blank except for that one memory."

"Then we'll focus on using your own body." She said, looking at her. "Once you can defend yourself with that we'll move on to using weapons. It won't be easy, but if you can defend yourself..." Well, it had worked wonders on some orphans, one of the few times they'd gotten an altruistic job.

"Training you, yes. But there are a few physical exercises I want you to do when you've time so you can build some stamina." She shrugged, not minding that Nichole was nervous. She should be, she was learning how to fight after all. That involved a lot of pain. "I want you to practice yoga when you can, or any other stretching exercise. The more limber you are the better."

"Good. When you don't have anything in particular to do I suggest jogging, or swimming if we have a pool." She didn't know what sort of equipment there was on the ship, but figured that running could be done through the halls easily enough. "Though the amount of time you do it should match your ability, and not what you think you can handle. If you get tired or your side hurts, stop." She wasn't a little kid, who could push themselves all they wanted.

Marcus suddenly entered the mess hall. It was obvious he had just taken a shower by his wet hair and new cloths. "Oh well look like its you two." He says cheerfully as he sat down with his food, eggs and bacon. He looked to saphire, "I see you are doing semi well. So what were you talking about." He said taking a bite of eggs.

Saphire nodded in recognition of his presence. "We were discussing how to go about conditioning Nichole while I rest. She wants to learn how to do hand-to-hand combat, and eventually how to handle a weapon." She wouldn't go over why the squish bag wanted to learn, that was Nichole's business, and none of his.

"I see" He said catching on quickly and he sips some milk with the eggs. "Though right now your not in the best condition to condition her anyways, and even if you were much of your training is that up assassination rather then combat." He said pointing this out as he ate. "Which brings me to what i wanted to ask you. I want to train you and i wonder if you'll allow me." He was unsure weather she would accept with her pride. "After all as defense chief wouldnt it be better if you knew as much as possible, my version of fighting is different then yours."

She bit her lip. Now was as close to perfect a chance as she was likely to get. "Only if you'll trade me favors." His was a big one, she figured. He was trying to get her to submit herself to further pain and humiliation. She may have pride, but not enough to act like she didn't need to learn when she'd just been proven otherwise. "One: You take over my active duties, like going with the Captain and away teams, Two: help me train Nichole." Please, please say yes... This is as close to begging as you'll get from me.

"I guess thats only fair considering im the one who put you like this and im also the only one capable to carrying out that role. As for training Nichole i have no problem with that ethier, it be helpful if the only civ without a weapon knew how to defend herself at least a little." He realized what this meant for her to unbend her pride like this but he didnt brag. "Also while your not in your best condition im giving your first task, before you go into real training you must hit me once. It can be at any time or any place but you have to hit me."

"Right." She didn't think it would be a good idea, but... she shot one hand up towards the back of his head and a foot towards his as well. It was worth a try, at least. Even if she failed she'd get a better idea how fast he reacted when relaxed.

He was easily expecting this so when she swung at his head he bent over to eat some eggs so her blow passed over him and he picked up his feet just a few inches above the ground. "Maybe you should wait till im not ready for you, show me your skill as a assassin."

She snorted. "Figured, but it was worth a shot." Still, that was quick movements... and he made it seem so casual. I'll be keeping a close eye on you, Marcus.

Yes, she'd show him the skills of an assassin. Starting with watching his every move so that she knew him better than herself. She had plenty of time, after all. Then she'd analyze all the data, and make a plan, experiment to see what caught him off guard and what didn't. Eventually she would hit him... she just didn't know how long it would take.

"Anyways since we still have a few days until we land ill teach nichole as much as possible before we land. Most of saphire's training wiill come after she hits me and actually remembers it but ill teach her a few things as well. Also just dont expect me to get caught easy saphire, im not gonna go easy on you with this and throwing your sword wont work."

"I know. But I'll figure something out." She was even now watching him, though out of the corner of her eye so as to not grab his attention. It was a necessary evil, she felt... he needed to be understood to be struck. And she wouldn't rest, more than necessary, until she had.
