Monsters and Myth

Katrina noticed something odd about one of the newer patrons of the bar. As he walked through the streets, she sensed that something was going on. Flexing her clawed fingers, she kept a close eye on him, not making any move to go near him. Her wings beneath her sweater were aching to come out, but she had to wait and be patient...

Xela watched as a skinny boy with white hair around her age scurried past her, looking a little uncomfortable in his skin. She could tell he was trying to hide something..trying to talk himself out of doing something wrong.

She had spent so much time observing people, so she knew what their actions meant much of the time. This guy looked like one of the strange beings...it made her want to smile a little, knowing she wasn't the only one who was struggling with themselves....but she couldn't smile.

Her problem was worse.

It would always be worse.

She only wanted to fit in and be normal, but she would never fit in. Xela hung her head solemnly, having those pitiful chills crawling up her spine.

Vallan was starting to go crazy. He could practically smell the blood through their veins. He grew paler and started to sweat, his skin becoming ice cold. 'Just do it, you need that blood.' On top of having an insatiable hunger, he was starting to hear things. "Shut...up!" His voice was low, but he spoke with a growl. 'Come on already. Just a taste, their lives at nothing, you are the one who needs to survive.' His headache was growing worse by the minute. "I said shut up! I'm not a monster!" He would not feed off another living being, just to preserve his own life. If he was to die, then so be it. He'd rather die with his morals in tact, then live a life filled with guilt.

Katrina watched the man nervously. She stood forward, her clawed hand reaching for the hem of her sweater. If she had to she would free her wings and fight...but she didn't wish for it to come to that, not with so many people around...then again, most of them didn't seem human anyway...Taking a deep breath, she pulled the sweater over her head, letting her wings stretch as far as they could to snap and crack out of their stiffness. She then watched the vampire warily, waiting for him to make any movement towards the innocents around them.

Xela carefully lifted up her head, her green eye focused on the strange boy only a few yards away. He was growling things to himself, but Xela could hear them clearly.

Monster..she thought to herself, wondering what exactly his issue could possibly be. Was he crazy..? Psychotic..? Or was he...actually another creature?

It was rare that she considered the idea of other beings around her to be something other than a mortal. She knew there were a variety of other creatures roaming the Earth these days, but she never came across any for the most part--or at least not that she knew of.

Suddenly, her head shoots in the direction of a girl with black locks of hair draped over her shoulders. Xela wasn't planning on paying much attention to her presence, but that was until she spread wings. Her own green eye widened a bit, startled by the sudden transformation.

What was the girl thinking...just spreading her wings like that in the middle of the street? Sure, there weren't many people around, but it was quite surprising that one draws attention to themselves like that.

Xela's pupil then slid back in the direction of the white haired boy, who seemed to be struggling immensely with himself. She wished she could tell him she understands his pain, but she didn't move from her spot beside the alleyway.

'Do it already! Just do it! Give in!' This was becoming too much for Vallan to handle. At this rate, he would give on to his carnal desires in mere seconds. "That's enough!" Vallan was ending this now. In a desperate attempt to gain control, he sent a hand at his own body. Sharp nails were now digging into his skin, drawing a large amount of blood. He had stabbed himself, hoping to gain so composure. It seemed to work, as the voice was gone now. However, his condition was now worse. In addition of his chest wound, he began to slip in and out of consciousness. His head rested on the nearby wall, barely standing. His breathing grew heavier and slower. However, he didn't care. He managed to control his vampiric instincts and that was all that mattered.

(Unfortunately I gotta go to work :( sorry for leaving ya at a point like this)

Katrina's eyes widened as the man practically stabbed himself...she shook her head in disbelief and hesitantly walked up to him, "Something's wrong with you...tell me what's going on." She said, her own fangs bared in mistrust. "You obviously aren't human...explain, why would you stab yourself?!"

She watched the boy as he screamed aloud to himself, digging his nails into his skin. He must've had some damn sharp nails, seeing the amount of blood that seeped out of the fresh wound.

Xela's lips parted slightly, catching herself gasp softly at the scene that was taking place right before her. She couldn't help but feel terrible for the stranger who was trying to face his own self. He looked as if he was on the brink of losing it..

I should help him, she thought, taking a step forward into the street lights again. Rays of luminosity streamed into her vision, causing her to squint. She could just barely see the boy leaning against the wall as he breathed heavily, using all his inner strength to defeat whatever this terrible side of him was.

She stood there, just watching him suffer, unable to take another step forward.
Her eye watched as the black haired girl approached him, shooting words at him like bullets in his moments of agony. Xela's feet were practically glued to the pavement, the bright lights shining down on her in the vast amount of darkness that surrounded the rest of the town. She assumed she looked a bit creepy, considering she was also staring at the two with her lone eye, but she didn't seem to care much. She knew she was far more than creepy, anyway.

"Stay...away.." His voice was barely above a whisper. He tried to continue with the warnings, but ended up passing out and falling on the cold hard floor. His coat shifted a bit, revealing the tattoo on his neck. Today had been too much for him. Fighting your natural instincts was no easy task and stabbing yourself didn't help. He was out cold, but he could still think. He hated being a vampire, but that's how he was born. Nothing could change him and he could only hope to contain himself. There was a point in time where he believed he could coexist peaceful with others. But now, that dream was dead and nothing could bring it back to life. This was how he was meant to live.

Xela watched as he told the girl to stay away, then dropped right to the ground like a rag doll. Her eye fell for a moment, feeling a pang of sadness strike through her veins. She was walking over to him now, her hands stuffed into the pockets of her over sized black hoodie. The white drawstrings swung back and fourth as she made her way over to him, an expressionless look still across her face.

She realized how pathetic and terrible it was that she could only allow herself to help the boy after he had passed out, rather than before it had gotten to this point.

She was finally beside the girl with the long black hair, looking down at the poor being that was lying lifelessly on the pavement. She saw that tattoo on his neck..the one that creatures who've been to war had.

"It sucks," she said aloud, her voice having the slightest hint of anger, "to be afraid of yourself...to be something you don't want to be.."

She leaned over, wrapping her hands around the boys wrists. Without eyeing the girl who was standing there, she began to drag the boy away.

She didn't say another word the whole time she dragged him down the now empty street, nor did any thoughts go through her mind. She just kept dragging him through the darkness, until she was finally sure that no one was around.

She looks down at the boy, who is still unconscious. She stares at him with her tired green eye for a moment longer, before she looks back up. Xela then holds her hand out for a second, focusing greatly on the air in front of her.

Suddenly, a portal of darkness appears before her. She leans over and grasps onto the boy's wrists again, dragging him into the portal.

When she drags him through, they end up in an alleyway a bit further away. The portal closes as she pulls him over onto an old mattress. She looks at him again, hoping he'll feel better when he wakes up. This alleyway was hidden away from the town and no one ever visited it...this had been where Xela was staying for now. She found it peaceful..the only place where she figured she'd ever be able to have any serenity.

With that, Xela backed away from the boy and into the shadows again.

Although he was in a weakened state, Vallan still retainers his vampire abilities. A vampire's regenerative capabilities allowed for wounds to be healed almost instantly. But since he was weakened, Vallan's wounds took a couple of minutes to heal. He awoke some time later in an unknown alley. The headache and dizziness was gone, along with the wound. He was still a little sore from the fall and he rubbed his head. 'At least my instincts are settled for now.' Vallan looked around the area, he didn't recognize it. It was a little far away from the town and nobody seemed to be in the area. As he continued looking around, he saw a slight shuffle in the shadows. He adjusted his eyes, as he peered into the darkness. He could see as clear as day right now. He managed to catch sight of a girl standing in the shadows. She wore an eye patch and seemed to be a creature as well. "Who are you?"

Xela opened her eye gradually after resting for a little while as she stood. Her piercing emerald eye lands on the boy, a questioning look across his face as he asks who she is.

She steps forward from the shadows towards him. "That's not important," she tells him hesitantly. She glances away for a moment, realizing she's afraid to let him know who she is..fearing he'll somehow recognize her name.

She shakes the thought away, realizing she's far away from her old town. "You can call me Xela..." she finally answers, eyeing him once again.

She stares at him for a moment in silence before adding, "I saw what happened. I figured you shouldn't be left alone in the street.."

She continues to stare at him, studying his pale face.

Sylva sighed in contentment as her bare feet touched the damp grass in Central Park. She gave a small smile as her green eyes looked around the surroundings. Sylva hummed to herself deeming the park a suitable place to live. If she knew any better, she would have thought the park was made solely for her but she knew better. Sylva walked across the grass till she settled down against the base of a large oak tree.

Katrina blinked as the girl took the vampire away...she wanted to stop her, but she didn't know how to handle these situations...especially in this new world where healers were few and far between, and taking a non-human to a hospital probably wouldn't be the best idea...

Sighing, she caped her wings onto her back and picked her sweater up from off the ground. She threw it back on, knowing perhaps it wasn't the best decision, but she needed to stretch. Plus, the variety of non-humans in the area made her feel it was safe enough to do so. She had to find a place to fit in...and if she wasn't the only non-human here, she felt a little more like she belonged.

"Oh a monster really now?" he smiled at her speaking with a strong Irish accent and put his hand on her head and came down to her level sitting on his haunches. "Yeah don't worry Ill protect you...but you really shouldn't keep food in your pockets." He took off the black and red leprechaun hat he was wearing and put his hand inside pulling out a strap bag. "Here put it in this and if your going to steal something hide it before you run out." He looked up to look at the girl she was referring "Nope haven't seen her before." He stood up and held her hand "Okay come on lets get out of here."

Bianca looked at this stranger with his Irish accent with curiosity. When he talked about the food she put in her pockets she shoved her hands in her pockets scared he might take away her only source of food for the time being. When he gave her a bag she looked at him wearily and started to take out all the food she stole. From her pockets, her bra, her shoe, and even in her jacket. She finished putting everything in the bag and tied it with a knot she learned that can only be undone in one way. When he held her hand she felt a little awkward but knew she was a part so she smiled and skipped along next to him. "I'm sorry, mister. I don't think I caught your name?" She said while walking next to him.
Spirit woke up a little groggy and decided to check out the town. She walked around different stores with her not-pointed hat feeling weird without it. She kept a couple potions and her wand in her big black bag and started to shop for a couple necessity's. She saw a nice park named Central Park and decided to walk in it for comfort. Spirit walked around sighing happily feeling more at home until she saw a girl sitting next to a old oak tree but from this far away she could not tell if the girl was asleep or dead. A little afraid she went up to her and the girl looked at her. She stopped walking a little embarrassed and scratched her head. "I'm sorry, from far away there looked like something was wrong and I just wanted to make sure everything okay." She said awkwardly and grinned.

Sire looked down at the little girl skipping beside him "Well then that's not very good is it lassie. I suppose you bess be thinkin or may it be guessing." He walked up to a candy shop door and placed his hands on the door and turned them until they were upside down. He then opened the door entering a room that looked nothing like a candy shop but instead all of the furniture was green and there was a fire going. Sire brought her inside and closed the door making sure they weren't followed. "Make yourself at home but don't be steal nottin." He hung up his hat and jacket sitting down in his lounger. "Not that it matters Id notice anyways."

Bianca watched him open the door with interest. From outside it looked like a plain candy shop but when she walked in there was a ton of green furniture and the man just down like this was his home. She looked outside and looked back in and got confused and a little frightened. She crossed her arms and stomped her foot acting like her normal self. "Okay mister what game are you playing?" She gave him a look like she was annoyed and upset and didn't dare touch a thing in the room.

He looked over at the girl with a confused look on his face "What kind of game am I playing you ask. Well I'm sorry but I don't have any games for you to play I do have some cards." He smiled at her "I'm just a man that loves kids. Why do you ask little girl?" he emphasized little girl when he spoke. He stood up and walked over to her looking down at her "And while your answering my question...whats your game or act?"

Sylva turned her head as she heard footsteps. She saw a girl with a large black bag on her shoulder. "Its alright, I understand.", she reassured at the girl. "I must have looked weird sitting here late at night, right?"

Bianca stood her ground and chinned up. "You try living in the streets all your life. You do what you can." She felt kind of bad for being mean to this nice guy but taking her to his house was more then a little strange, especially because she hasn't been inside a house for many many years.
Spirit out down her hand and laughed. "Yeah, so just to make me feel better. Everything IS okay right?" She asked nicely and gave the girl a nice smile.

Sylva nodded her head, "Everything is fine. If you worry too much you'll have gray hair before you know it." she playfully teased. A cool breeze went through the park, Sylva closed her eyes in contentment as the wind played with her green hair.

"Oh please of course I know what you've been through. Now go on make yourself at home. If you want to go to your room walk up three flights of stairs and its the first room on the right. Don't go any further and don't go in if its not the right room." The fact that he said three flights of stairs was strange because the building was only one floor with maybe an attic. Sire took out a drink from his cupboard and drank right from the bottle.

Bianca uncrossed her arms and looked at him shocked. "My... room?" She just didn't no whatvelse to dsy because she truly didn't hear anything else.
