Mission 04: Waaagh! Bonebreaka [One Man Army]

During this period of time, Tarlocke did indeed consult the Apothecary, explaining the conditions under which he arrived - and his Battle-Brother's death. If there was an opportunity to recover it during the two days, he would've seized it.
 
The apothecary, a dark angle named Angleus, agrees to go with you to retrieve Kriegs gene-seed. The two of you depart quickly, going on foot into the valley.


You may roll tactics: recon and stealth to support your endeavor.
 
OOC- looks like you are serious about getting that gene-seed!


IC- you lead the way with quiet confidence that you will notice any orky patrols long before they notice you.


Roll stealth if you are trying to be sneaky. If not, disregard.


Roll awareness.
 
The emperor is watching out for you! You manage to evade the notice of the orks long enough to locate them. There are eight in this section of forest, near Kriegs body. They have not noticed you yet.


OOC- have fun killing them. Go epic narrative. No rolls needed. Just slaughter the 8.
 
Tarlocke lay in waiting in the bushes. There was complete and utter silence before the storm. Then, with neither battle cry nor any other warning, he hurled himself out of the bushes at the nearest ork, power blade crackling angrily through the air as he drove it straight down in the beast's neck, shoved it forwards, and split him open in the front. Then, the space marine yanked his blade out of the corpse, and turned to swing it one-handedly in a perfect arc, down to hack into another ork's head and split its skull. All this in deadly silence. Then, he kicked this corpse off of his blade as well, and turned to another ork that charged him. He gripped the blade firmly with both hands, and then thrust it up into the ork's chest, between the ribs. He pushed it through, yanked it out, and cut off the ork's head.


Three down, five to go. Tarlocke disappeared into the forest again, leaving the remaining orks unaware of his presence. Then, he struck from behind a tree, charging past one and cutting its head straight off before disappearing into the forest again. Four down. Two orks had busied themselves by picking through Krieg's wargear. Tarlocke appeared out of nowhere, leaping at them from a treetop, and launched into a flurry of strikes. The orks' arms came off, then their heads. He kicked one, sending it flying straight into the face of an ork that had just appeared from the bushes, then followed suit by stabbing him in the nose till the blade poked out through the back of his head.


Finally, Tarlocke stood before the last ork. Its primitive brain had managed to understand fear. It had been pressed up against a large tree trunk, and was looking frantically for a chance to escape. Tarlocke gave him no such chance. He simply charged the ork, bringing his power blade over his shoulder, and then swung it downwards in a horizontal strike that cut the ork's torso in two. He then stabbed it through the ork's head.


Panting, Tarlocke returned to the Black Templar's side. He fell to a knee, supporting himself on his power blade. His breath was ragged and heavy. Then, he threw back his head and let out a cry full of grief over his fallen Brother and grim, wordless vengeance over his killers. There were no words for the wrath surging through his veins and churning in his heart.


The furious Space Marine beckoned for the apothecary to come, at last, and perform the rites.


 
OOC: I thought this post might redeem my prior posts' somewhat lacking content.
 
OOC: +1 Renown for epic roleplay!


IC- The Apothecary, Angleus, knelt over Kriegs body. The drills and saws of his narthecium pierced the thick plates of the Templars armour, and the progenoids were removed without difficulty.


"Does that work?" Angleus indicated kriegs bike. Then the apothecary stooped and retrieved kriegs weapond. "We can use it to help us transport the body."
 
"It should, it was only toppled," Tarlocke said. A weariness had crept into his voice that just... wasn't there before. "Thank you, Brother Apothecary, for bothering to recover his body."
 
Angleus pulled the bike to upright. "Help me with him," the apothecary said. Together, the two of you heave Krieg onto the bike. There is not enough room for a rider with the corpse, and Angleus makes to push it.


"Let us move quickly, before more xenos arrive. Under the Emperors watchful eye, this brother will be returned home."
 
Tarlocke kept a solemn silence while he and Angeleus moved the fallen Black Templar. As for watchful eyes, Tarlocke's philosophy was the Emperor's omniscience was no excuse for recklessness, and he scanned the horizon and the skies while they traveled.
 
You make it back to the cave hideaway without attracting attention, which is nigh miraculous. You see to it that Krieg is laid respectfully in the cave, and resume your preparations for the attack.


OOC- is there anything you want to prepare?
 
OOC: I'd like to prepare for taking down the void shields by having a look around the area, in a stealthy fashion, and then devise a plan of attack from that.
 
Tactics is rolled vs Int not Ag. No matter though, the result is the same.


IC- without getting too close to the green horde you are able to identify the shield generator. Using Kletians missile launcher it should be relatively simple to knock out. Except for getting into range.


To close into range you are going to need to cross orkish lines...but you do have your bike, and you recently retrieved Kriegs.
 
Actually pretty good, you estimate. The orks will be drawn by the noise, but with any luck you can make the void shield before they realize what is going on. Emperor willing you could make it out again too.
 
Dawn comes on the day of the strike. Kalix has opted to launch the triple strike at the latest possible moment to achieve maximum surprise and to have the least amount of time for the orks to put any contingency plan into effect.


You and Kletian do a final gear check before climbing on the bikes and preparing to smash your way through enemy lines. Kalix has ordered you to go to the aid of Metraen and Ferian when you have dealt with the void shields.
 
When Tarlocke had readied his gear, he mounted the bike alongside Kletian, and tore off in direction of their target. Full speed until they reached a distance from the shield, as they had the days before.
 
Kletian paused beside tarlocke.


"500 meters...I can make that shot," he said with quiet confidence. "The structure doesnt look orkish. More like imperium technology. Probably reinforced ceramite over an adamantine core."


The devastator paused a moment. "No guarantees that a missile will breach that. I will shoot, and if the shield doesnt go down we wait and draw the xenos up here. When they get close we break their line and destroy the shields the old-fashioned way, agreed?"
 
"Agreed - I will set up an overwatch in preparation for incoming xenos. Make the shot when you are ready, Brother," Tarlocke responded, moving to a vantage point.
 
Kletian braced himself carefully, after double checking that his launcher was fully loaded. He took a moment to aim and exhaled slowly.


The firsy missile leapt from his launcher. Over the next ten seconds two more followed.


The krak missiles struck the armoured building housing the generator, but to no avail. Scorch marks were visible after the smoke of the explosion cleared, but the generator was still operational.


"On your signal brother, we rush the generator!"
 
"Charge!" barked the Novamarine, vaulting onto the bike and looking to the Devastator to make sure he was following. Then, he revved the engine and barreled forwards down the slope.
 
Right behind Tarlocke, Kletian roared down the hill, twin linked bolters blasting away at any ork foolish enough to actually get in his way.


"Brother Tarlocke," he voxxed, "when we arrive at our target, your grenade launcher may prove sufficient to destroy the internal mechanism!"
