Also WeaselThor Angel embodies everything young sirens are taught to fear about man. Hell sirens and humans haven’t seen each other in hundreds of years so some were ironically taught humans didn’t exist and were kinda like the boogeyman. “Behave yourselves or man will pluck you from the water and cook you and eat you.” So they beleive all humans have fire powers and that they can start fires wherever because that’s how the story got twisted for generations. Jace was told the actual mythology as to why humans started burning sirens as witches though but it is still kinda scary to him to see what was used to scare children into behaving as a real tangible thing.

Indeed the myth of mermaids actually originates from the Mediterranean area. He spent a lot of time traveling there and would likely be told stories of the mythos. He would find them interesting but scary.

Well the species would have. Jace is only 20 so any information he has is from word of mouth from the elders who can live for a very long time. Some do remember the witch burnings and have made it a point to show the youngsters that humans were dangerous through scary stories of being tied to large posts and lit ablaze in fires that would reach tward the heavens. They told stories of large moving islands that had thunder shooting from the land (naval ships).
