Magical Michief (For ultimus9)

Malinda turned towards her brother. "Are you going to let one of your students talk to me like that?" She scoffed. "I will say it once more: I have not sent a spy here, nor have I ever. I don't believe in cheating." She said, turned on her heels, and started to walk away with her brother to discuss some more things.

That almost got ugly... Elyssa thought an sighed in relief. Malinda was one of the top water magic users and not someone to mess around with.

Alex watched her walk away. He couldn't let her get the last word in. That wasn't his style.

"COWARD!" He yelled at the top of his lungs.

He turned, stalking his way off the commons. He gave Eric a mock salute.

"Enjoy the show?"

"Yeah. You told her." She said, acting like it was something good. Meanwhile ahe had to go and speak with Malinda, but right now it would be very suspicious. She had to wait for the right time

Alex shrugged. "What I said was the truth. I don't think the headmistress would think twice about leaving her spies out to dry. How d'you think she got to where she is?" He turned, rubbing his eyes. "I'm going to go see if my coffeemaker's arrived. Later."

She watched as the crowd dispursed and Alex went away. She tried to follow the crowd to the cafeteria to get breafast to not seem suspicious, but she was looking for Malinda. She passed by the cafeteria and spotted Malinda arguing with the head master. They did that a lot, from what she told me. She waited for the right opportunity.

When the head master went away and Malinda was alone, she walked right up, making sure no one else was around. Malinda aaw this and created and created an illusion barrier around them.

"You know its dangerous to talk to me right now. I love you Elyss, but right now is not the time. We still have two months until the tournament..hold off until then."

"No i dont want to be a part of this anymore. Take me back" elyssa argued.

"I cant do that Elyssa. Just stay calm, you'll be fine. I need you to find out how they always win. The past twn years we have lost. Find out how and then you can come back." Malinda got the last word in before she teleported Elyssa away and walked off back to Mistwood.

Elyssa groaned and went back to the cafeteria again, after being teleported farther away.

Alex stepped out of the cafeteria line, precariously balancing a mug on the edge of his tray. He sat down next to Eric, staring around the room. "There's gotta be a reason why the headmistress herself would come to Ironwood, right? Why wouldn't she send an officer or something?"

She shrugged. "I dont know. She and the Head Master are siblings. They cant visit each other?" She asked

His eyes widened. "Really? Wow, I didn't know that. Guess that just adds to the sting of losing." He stretched a little, slowly regaining energy. "Sore loser, I guess."

"Heh..yeah." she sighed. "Im kind of nervous about the tournament." She lied. "I never really been in a huge fight like that before."

He clapped Eric on the back. "Don't worry about it. In every year, there's always some certified badass who can beat the competition. In senior year, it's me." He grinned mischievously. "I'm gonna bring the house down."

"I doubt by yourself." She said. "I just hope i dont have to fight too much." To be honest she did know how to fight. Mainly defending herself with her water techniques, and disorienting her opponents with illusions.

"Of course not, but close. We're organized. 4 leaders, from each element, strongest of each grade. They choose who goes on their team." He tilted his head. "You doubt my ability? Man, I can break illusions with just the wind."

"Thats impressive. Ive never met an air user who can break an illusion." She admitted. Remind me to never fight against him. She told herself

"Yeah. I'll show you after school." He took a moment to shovel food into his mouth. "See, the reason we can do all these things is because after Advanced Air, or whatever else you take, you're allowed to dabble a little in other subjects. Air and Water make a good team. You can summon storms with one guy when you used to need two."

Why hadn't she heard about this? She didnt know that ine could do that after they mastered their element. Maybe that was why this school always won, because of this technique. "Wow, you must be really good then."

He shot Eric a look.

"Don't flatter people too much. They might think you're the spy, y'know? I mean, you've got everything going against you. A transfer student, right before What's-her-face comes and defends her school against rumors. A water student, no less. Where'd you transfer from, anyway?"

"Whoa wait. You're accusing me now?" She asked. "There is probably no spy. Everyones blowing things way out of proportion here. And I transfered from a school back in my home town thank you."

Alex rolled his eyes. "How can you be so damned blind, Eric?" he asked. "Of course there's a spy. If there wasn't, she wouldn't come out all this way, she'd let the rumor spread the uncertainty. Turn us against each other. But she needed to give the spy more time to do god-knows-what, and that's why she came out. To give the spy more time before a full-on manhunt starts." He clenched his fists a moment, then released them. "Where you from, anyway?"

"Lorexa." She answered. Lorexa was a small town in the country but it was known for being a rich community, not only with its people but with the land around it.

She was also tired of this conversation.and classes were fixing to start. "I have to get going, classes and all." She got up and through her tray away, taking her bag as she headed to class

"Yeah. Right." he dumped his tray, setting off to another round of classes. "Good luck." he muttered under his breath.

She couldnt focus on her school work because of all this tension. She almost didnt want to go back to the dorm because she didnt want tonface Alex. It felt like he was watching her every move.

The Head Master sent a message out after lunch for all the students to report to the courtyard again. It seemed like he wanted to have the students fight each other for practice since the tournament was soon.

She stood off to the side, not looking forward to this. She watched everyone get paired off to spar. Fighting against elements they werent used. She didnt like fighting against fire and earth users because they just wanted to beat you senseless.

Alex sat back on the benches, silently analyzing who'd be the greatest threat. Earth couldn't hold a candle to him, erosion was his ally, especially after he'd picked up Water as a secondary subject. As for Fire, same went. Water put it out. He didn't feel like fighting an Air mage, because that always ended with dirty fighting. Which left Eric and the rest of the Water mages. He snuck up behind Eric.

"We're sparring." he said.

She jumped up after he snuck up on her. "We are?" She didnt mind fighting an air user, but agai st Alex might be tough. Hopefully he couldnt knock away the illusion around her like he said he could. Then indeed, the head master called her and Alex up.

Alex took his place, in front of the fountain. That'd be bad, if she could drown him from behind. He called up the wind, creating a wall of air.

"Let's go."

She stood up and prepared herself. She took in a couple deep breaths to ce ter herself. She slowly nodded as she summoned an illusion of darkness to surround them both. She used this as a cover and move around easily as she could see through it and he couldnt.
