Kaleb Price and Jordan DeShay
Former FEDRA officer, Former Smuggler | 25, 28 | Current location ;; New Mexico

Jordan winced as he heard Carlos and realized that he’d forgotten to mention that and the fact that they explode spores when they die. “I see Kaleb already mentioned the not going in basements part..” Jordan said as he kept shooting. He ran out of ammo in his pistol and grabbed his shotgun. Time to get close and personal. He moved in, and then saw the bomb thrown. It was then that he heard Carlos and sighed softly. Good job Jordan. You lose your man and your head goes with him. “Sorry!! I forgot to mention that too!” Jordan yelled back as he kept firing. One last stalker, creeping up near the box and Jordan fired at it. Eerie silence filled the area now. Bodies of infected littered the ground. “You can come down now.” Jordan said, walking towards Carlos.

Kaleb heard the screeching below them and groaned at the blockade going down to the basement. “I don’t know where they were before. But maybe there’s a way through to the basement further into this place. Something? Maybe an outside entrance?” Kaleb said, looking around and shooting a runner headed towards them.

Silence surrounded him like the loudest sound. He waited another beat or two before letting out a puff of air and joining Jordan at his side. “Well, that wasn’t so bad. Here I was thinking that was going to be hard.” He stretched his arms up high and touched his toes. When he stood back up, he looked in his pack. “Well, that’s it for my bombs. That is something I will need to work on some more.” He threw an arm around Jordan’s shoulders. “You know what I learned. I don’t do the shooting thing.” He nodded. “Thank you for the shooting thing.” He grabbed Jordan’s hand and started moving forward down the hallways of dark and scary. “I would like to find my Kaleb now.” His voice lost it’s pep just a little.

The runner fell and Asher literally ran over it. He did not care that he was crushing bones. That meant nothing to him. “Outside? Got it.” They got to the ground floor, and he pushed open the door to the rest of it. “You wanna walk or ride? I am fine with either.” He listened around them. He didn’t hear anyone else. He had a feeling that most things were already drawn to them, so it wasn’t going to be too much of an issue.

Jordan looked around the room as he heard the puff of air from Carlos as he joined him. “You definitely handled that better than I thought. Considering you’d never seen those infected before.” Jordan commented as he chuckled. “I’m sure we’ll find you more stuff for bombs.” He added as he felt the arm over his shoulders. “Have Kaleb give you lessons on shooting. But you’re welcome.” Jordan told him, feeling him take his hand. “Let’s go find our men.” He agreed hearing the lost bit of pep in Carlos’ voice.

Kaleb looked around and then to Asher. “I’ll ride. It’s easier, and I’m already up here.” Kaleb said, not wanting to stop their motion. He wanted to get to Carlos, to make sure he was okay. So he didn’t want to take any longer than he had to.

“Why thank you. I like to think that I am a pretty capable dude overall.” He practically skipped forward but then remembered that everything still hurt, and now that they weren’t actively fending for their lives, the extra energy was draining away, and he was exhausted again. He slowed down and groaned. Shooting lessons could happen just as soon as he found Kaleb. Well, as soon as he found Kaleb and then finished hugging him. “Now how do we get out?” With his flashlight, he was mostly seeing dusky grossness and overgrown areas of fungus that looked really awful. He did not want to be touching any of that.

Asher nodded and kept trekking forward. This was not something he was used to doing, but honestly, it really wasn’t much worse than having a pack that was full on. Sometimes, the packs got really heavy, especially when he was carrying heavier weapons with him. He didn’t have one of those currently. They probably should have something better than a pipe that looked like it wasn’t going to make another hit. He jogged through the main area again and out the front door. “Let me know if you see anything.” He slowed now that they were out in the open, and moved around the side of the building.

“oh you’re very welcome. I can see that.” Jordan replied with a grin. He saw Carlos start to skip forward and then slow down and groan. “You okay?” Jordan asked as they walked, his own body was sore but not painful. Nothing a good rest beside his partner wouldn’t solve. Jordan looked around as they walked and shook his head. “I don’t see anything, there should be an outside exit.” Jordan said as he moved.

Kaleb nodded as he heard Asher then realized that Asher couldn’t see him nodding. “Got it.” Kaleb said as they moved around the side of the building. So far nothing, until they came around the back. A large metal pair of doors was inset in a hole with stairs leading down. “Asher! There?” Kaleb said, pointing towards it.

Carlos waved a hand. “Good enough to keep moving and not die in some basement where really big, ugly things explode spores at me?” Eh. He nodded. “I think it’s probably a good thing we chose explosives over crowbar.” He pulled his arm close to him and rubbed it. “This guy didn’t like that fall that just kept going.” He cracked down pretty hard on the ground floor and then when he rolled off the couch, he was pretty sure that was nasty. He wasn’t about to take the jacket off and see what it looked like under there, though. He did not like the idea of spores down there getting in through open wounds. That may not have been how it worked, but he didn’t want to take that chance. “This is dark. Do you know how many places I have been that are this kind of dark? Very few. That aren’t just the outside. Granted, my clocked traveling time is not very little.”

Asher changed course to follow where Kaleb was pointing. “Ah, good spotting. I think that might be exactly what we are looking for.” He moved them up to it and took those first few steps and grabbed onto the doors. “It’s locked,” he growled. “Okay. No panic. We can get these things open. Somehow.” He huffed. What they needed were their muscles, and those were on the other side. What else could they use to open them? No panic, he repeated to himself. He was not going to panic even though Jordan was down there. Jordan who he needed to keep himself sane. Jordan who needed him to keep him from running around and doing something stupid. Something stupid like blindly walking down the hallway that would eventually lead to his falling away from them? Yeah, some help he was.

Jordan narrowed his eyes as he looked at Carlos, but there wasn’t much he could do right now. They both wanted to get out of here. “Once we get out of here, we’re checking you out.” Jordan said though he could feel his own back twinging every so often. “It’s very dark. But we can make it out. Just keep looking for any kind of door or something.” Jordan said as he moved, his body exhausted from the fight and the fall.

Kaleb looked at the doors and huffed as well at the fact they were locked. How could they get them open? “Can we explode them open?” Kaleb asked as he thought about ways to open a locked pair of metal doors. “Can’t shoot them since I don’t see the actual lock on this side.” He added as he thought about how this was the thing keeping him from Carlos. He wasn’t sure if his ideas would work or not but it was worth a shot.

Carlos still being Carlos, flashed him his most charming smile and replied, “You can check me out any time, beautiful.” Which was funny since that was what caused this mess to begin with. He laughed lightly and then coughed, because everything was painful and exhausting. “Alright. Looking for a door or something.” Mostly he saw a whole lot of dark and dust and rubble. This place looked awful. Was this how all basements were, because if so, he agreed that they should never go to them.

Jordan banged his hand against the locked doors, so frustrated that he couldn’t get through them. “Explode them? That man really has done a number on you, hasn’t he?” But it was a good idea. It was their only idea. He backed up and out of the hole and bent down so that he was crouched on the ground. He set his pack on the ground and sifted through. “I’ve got trap mines that we can set here on the doors and then explode from afar. It’s worth a shot. Otherwise, I don’t know what we’re gonna do.” He shimmied out from Kaleb’s grip and placed the mine down, armed it, and moved back to Kaleb. “Let’s back up and then set it off?”

Jordan rolled his eyes but chuckled softly. “Once we get out of here, perhaps I’ll take you up on that.” He said with a grin as he looked around. The cough made Jordan look at him with a concerned look. He didn’t see much himself and he was tired, no he was exhausted and sore. He just wanted to lay down and stay there.

Kaleb looked at Asher and backed up as well. “What can I say?” Kaleb said with a chuckle. “Sounds like a good idea to use them.” He said as Asher shimmied out of his grip. He kept himself upright as he watched Asher place the mine down and then come back to him. “Yes. Back up.” He agreed, taking enough steps back with Asher and then aimed his pistol at the trap mine and fired, the explosion was loud and Kaleb closed his eyes and turned his face away, hoping that the explosion unlocked the doors.

As they walked, Carlos realized that he was always walking with just the slightest limp. First his arm, then his lungs, and now his leg? He should be happy he didn’t break anything. He probably didn’t break anything. How would he know if he broke something? “You’re cute when you’re pretending like you’re not devastatingly attracted to me,” he joked, though his voice was having a hard time keeping up with his usual jovial and flirty personality. He blinked a few times hoping that would solve something. A loud boom rumbled through the cavernous basement. He staggered back and grabbed onto the nearest shelving unit for stability? “What was that? Because that felt like an explosion. Those things do more than I saw?” He was not sure that he was in the mood for another bloater fight.

Instinctively, Asher wrapped himself around Kaleb as he too turned away from the explosion. He was loud and destined to summon any nearby trouble. He let the dust and everything settled before he opened himself back up to the world. The first thing he did was look around them for any potential dangers. No infected were nearby. He couldn’t hear any either. Then he looked at the doors. Well, they certainly took some serious damage. They were mangled and warped from it all. He stepped away and pulled at the doors. They were certainly unlocked now, he could tell because they were moving a little, but they were stuck. It might have been something inside with the warping. He pulled and pulled, and it was only moving a little. “You think you can pull with that leg? It’s close. I can feel it giving way. I just am not strong enough to do it myself.”

Jordan rolled his eyes and laughed. “Oh is that so? I didn’t realize I was devastatingly attracted to you.” He said as he moved, before a loud boom sounded, and Jordan ducked on instinct and backed to the wall. “That might have been our saviors, because once a bloaters dead, he doesn’t explode more. Let’s go towards the source.” Jordan suggested, managing to get his stability and headed towards the source.

Kaleb felt Asher wrap himself around him and he coughed as the dust settled. Once he was let go, he noticed the doors were mangled and warped. He heard the question and nodded. “I’ll brace with my good leg.” Kaleb said as he moved slowly over. He put both hands on the door, braced his good leg behind him and pulled with all his strength. He could feel the doors shifting and moving. “One more good pull from us both should get this popped open.” Kaleb said, pulling again.

Carlos really wanted this explosion to be their saviors. They may not have been apart long, but it was still too long. He needed Kaleb back. That could definitely be Kaleb. He taught Carlos how to make explosives. He very well could have decided to blow something up. And if he did, that was probably the most romantic thing he had ever heard. In that moment. He was not a terribly fickle guy. With a renewed energy, he moved faster. As he passed Jordan he grinned. “Everyone is devastatingly attracted to me,” he responded with a wink before jogging ahead. The will to find Kaleb outweighed the pain.

He was beyond frustrated with this stupid places. Floorboards that dropped Jordan. Infected that wanted to kill them and keep them from finding a way down to the men who needed them. Stairs that were blocked the only direction they needed to go. Now these doors that refused to open. Asher’s fury was a lot. He nodded and braced himself for one more good pull. He watched Kaleb and pulled at the same time as him. The door finally pulled open, but it wasn’t one of those satisfying times where it flew open and all was revealed. Of course not. It was just enough to squeeze a body through. “Okay,” he huffed as he caught his breath. “Shall we descend into the horrors that await us?”

Jordan had a feeling that the explosion was their men but he also feared why there was an explosion. Was there infected? Was there something out there that they were fighting? Or someone? Those little doubts planted themselves in his mind as he caught sight of Carlos passing him and he snorted a laugh. “You keep telling yourself that beautiful.” Jordan said as he moved faster too, and then up ahead was a sliver of light across the floor. “Carlos!” Jordan called, pointing to the light. “Look!” There was a pair of busted up doors with a little bit of light coming through.

Kaleb felt the doors give and pull open, just enough for a body. “We should put our masks on. Could be spores down there.” Kaleb said, slipping his mask on. “And you should probably go first, at least you can defend yourself better and I’ll follow behind you. Would that be a good plan?” Kaleb asked as he looked through the door. He just hoped that Carlos was on the other side of it.

Spores. Asher shoved his mask over his head and nodded. “Here’s hoping.” He pushed himself through the doors, struggling just a little bit. Carlos rolled his eyes at both of them and jogged towards the light. Light was good. Were those doors? They were a good bit ahead of them, and it was going to have to be good enough. Something moved around them, and Carlos paused. As much as he wanted that to be their men, he just wasn’t sure. Well, he wasn’t until Asher walked down those steps. “Asher!” Carlos called. The man froze briefly and then he was running. He was running like his life depended on it. He ran right past Carlos, who was not expecting this reaction from Asher, and throwing his arms around Jordan. “Asher, wh-“ “Through the doors.” That was enough for Carlos. He just about ran the rest of the way to the doors saying, “Don’t even try to come through these hulking things. I’m coming to you.” He was bigger than Asher and therefore had to work a little harder to get out. He was briefly blinded by the light, but hey, that was okay, because there he was. There were those beautiful blue eyes. He didn’t care about masks or anything, He wrapped those big arms around Kaleb and lifted him up into a airborne hug.

Jordan chuckled as he followed Carlos towards the light. He saw the other pause which drew him to pause as well. What was up ahead of them? What was coming through the doors? He opened his mouth to ask before a shape was rushing towards him. He went to pull his pistol when arms wrapped around him. Instead of reaching for his gun, he wrapped his arms around Asher and laughed gratefully, lifting him up and spinning them both around. “Hey there gorgeous. What took so long?” Jordan asked with a smile on his face as he set Asher back on his feet. Meanwhile Kaleb was waiting for Asher to let him know he could come through when he heard a voice that made him smile wider than he thought possible. And then he saw Carlos squeezing through the doors and he felt tears of relief and joy slip down his cheeks. A laugh bubbled out as he felt those big arms wrap around him and picked him up into an airborne hug. He wrapped his arms around Carlos’ neck. “Hi. I missed you Strong Arms.”

Asher didn’t let go. He didn’t want to ever let go. Here they were playing with these other people like they could afford time away from their person. He liked Kaleb. He liked him a lot. He probably shouldn’t like him as much as he did. It was so confusing, especially now that he had Jordan back. He was capable without him. It wasn’t like he didn’t know what to do. But he felt so lost. He smirked at him. “Oh you know. Just had to kill dozens of infected on my way to save you. I told them we were in a hurry, because there was no way you could survive very long without me, but they just kept coming.” He took his hand and pulled him toward the doors. He didn’t want to be down there or anywhere near this place anymore.

Putting Kaleb down was not going to happen. He would just keep him since he had him up in this hug in the air. He held him like one might hold a kid where he held Kaleb’s legs up around his hips. That was better. No, wait, this wasn’t good enough for him. He shifted so that he could move one hand to take off his mask and gently toss it into the grass. He did the same with Kaleb’s. That was better for looking at him. “I missed you too, Blue Eyes.” He replaced that hand around his back and kissed his favorite person in the whole of the world. Nope. Still not good enough. He plopped them down on the ground so that when sitting he could move his hands up to his cheeks and around his neck and in his hair.

Jordan chuckled softly as he saw that smirk and heard his words. "Oh really? Did they listen to you?" He asked as he felt Asher take his hand. Jordan loved having Carlos around, but he loved Asher. The world wasn't as bright when he was gone from it. And Jordan wasn't going to leave Asher alone again. He followed him out of the basement, slipping through the door after him and pulled off his mask immediately. Once they were clear, he pulled Asher towards him, pulled his mask off and placed both hands on Asher's face, one on each cheek and kissed him like he hadn't seen him in years.

Kaleb smiled as he felt Carlos hold him, and his legs were wrapped around Carlos' hips and his arms around his neck. He felt that mask taken off him and smiled at him, hearing that. He felt the hand around his back and then lips were on his. Kaleb kissed Carlos back just as happily, but then they were moved to the ground. He felt the hands on his cheeks, then up and around his neck and into his hair. He shifted so he was closer to Carlos, as close as he could be, and his hands pushed up into Carlos' hair, not wanting to break the kiss. He did for long enough to breathe, smile then he kissed him back, using the hand in his hair to add pressure into the kiss.

As they walked out of the basement and pushed through those doors, Asher looked back at Jordan and shook his head. “No one ever listens to me, and I’m by far the smartest person we know.” He slipped through the doors and waited for Jordan. He smiled at the reunion of the other two while he waited. He considered saying something snarky about it when suddenly Jordan had him captured again. No more masks. Just them like it should be. His arms draped across Jordan’s shoulders and laced together around his neck. When he pulled away, he was smiling way more than he usually did. “Don’t you ever do that to me again.” If they had gone much longer, he was afraid that could have gone poorly.

With Kaleb shifting, Carlos thought he could be helpful. He lowered his hands so that he could aid in pushing him as close to himself as humanly possible and also while outside in broad daylight where any danger could see them and also also were clothed. Carlos might have laughed about those pesky garments if he weren’t so invested in kissing Kaleb like this was their last day in earth and they had to get in as many as possible before it was rudely taken away from them. When they had to break for a breath, he took the brief moment to say, “I love you. So so much.” He kissed him once. “What did I tell you about never leaving?” Once again. “Not even holes in the floor could keep us apart.” He may have been absolutely exhausted, his whole body still hurt, and his was sure his arm was struggling a whole lot more than he would ever admit, bur having Kaleb again was invigorating. It was like he could do anything.

Jordan had heard Asher’s comment and chuckled at it. But then there was too much space between them so he naturally pulled them together for a kiss once outside. When they pulled apart, he heard those words and smiled. “Gorgeous, I’ll never fall down holes without you ever again. Promise.” Jordan said, seeing that smile on Asher’s face. As he stood there, holding his partner, the exhaustion and pain in his body became much more prevalent. “Perhaps we should get moving and find somewhere to rest. My body is not exactly happy about that fall.”

Kaleb smiled into the kiss, holding Carlos as tight as he could. At the break in kissing, Kaleb heard the words. His heart soared a little higher at each one. “I love you too. So much. I knew you’d come back to me.” Kaleb told him, a big smile on his face. “Are you okay though? That was a long fall.” He asked worried, his eyes searching Carlos’ and trying to see from where he was if there was any pain or injuries on his partner.

All Asher wanted was to keep Jordan close. He let him go, and then he went and fell down a hole. In ways that he could never really explain, he felt like that was his fault. He kissed him again, lips lingering close so that as he spoke his next words, they brushed against Jordan’s. “You fell three stories, lovebug. Of course it’s not happy. I’m surprised to see you both up and moving like this. I half expected to find your sad little bodies stuck there because you broke something.”

Carlos from afar, wrapped in his love’s embrace, called out, “I might have.” Then, quieter now that he had everyone’s attention, especially Kaleb’s, he repeated, “It was a long fall.” He cast a glance at his injured arm, and thought about how that might have been a break. A dislocation. Something really not that good. It was why he didn’t want to get up when Jordan had to make him. “Don’t worry, love.” He let the arm go limp. “It, um, it will be okay. Later. Let’s find that somewhere to rest, yeah?” He lifted Kaleb up to stand them both up. He still used that arm he said might have been broken. Broken would never stop him. What was a little pain to make his Kaleb’s life better?

Jordan smiled into the kiss, and he knew he never wanted to leave Asher again. He felt the lips brush against his when he talked. Three stories? Wow. It hadn’t seemed like it was that far of a fall. He was about to say something when he heard Carlos and turned his head to narrow his eyes at him. “What?” Jordan whispered, then he pushed out a heavy sigh. Kaleb narrowed his own eyes at Carlos and sighed himself. He felt Carlos lift him up even as he looked at that limp arm. “We’re going to check that arm when we get somewhere safe to rest.” Kaleb said as he looked at the other two. “Shall we leave this city and these memories and head on? Find somewhere else to go?” Kaleb asked.

Carlos shrugged with one arm. “It’s not so bad. Could be worse falling that many stories. You didn’t expect us to come out of unscathed, right?” He slid his arm around Kaleb to be his support. He may have been broken but he still had a job to do. He would never fall behind on that job. Asher stared at Carlos for a moment and then shook his head. “We can’t trust either of you. Did you break something too?” He asked Jordan as he shifted to turn the direction they needed to go to be out of this city once and for all. “We came in from that way. We should head out this direction. I don’t want to go back to the city the other direction. That was too close to home for my liking.”

Kaleb sighed heavily as he looked at Carlos, shaking his head. “You are crazy.” He said as he felt the arm around his shoulders. Kaleb would take the support. Jordan looked at Asher and shrugged. “I don’t know if I broke something nessecarily but I may have hurt my back.” Jordan said, that twinge getting worse. He listened to Asher and nodded. “Let’s go that way.” Jordan agreed, turning to head in that direction.

Carlos grinned and nestled his head into Kaleb’s shoulder. “And you love that,” he mused. “I am your favorite crazy.” He gestured to the other two. “Alright, take us somewhere that I can fall and not have to get back up.” Asher nodded and started walked. “We should be able to leave the city soon if it’s set up like a normal city.” He was not going to comment on the fact that of course Jordan hurt something after falling through the floor. He just eyed him warily and kept going. After walking a few steps, he took Jordan’s hand. He didn’t even look at him when he did it. He kept looking forward.

A laugh bubbled out of Kaleb’s throat as he nodded. “Yeah, you are my favorite crazy.” He agreed with a shake of his head. Kaleb moved with Carlos as Asher started moving forward. “I trust you to get us out of here.” Kaleb told Asher as he moved. Jordan was surprised that Asher didn’t say anything about him being hurt. But then he felt the hand take his and even though Asher was looking forward, he understood the hand. Jordan squeezed his hand and kept walking as they moved. He was tired, no he was exhausted and he hurt. Jordan was just as ready to call it a day as Carlos was, he was just quiet.
