Realistic or Modern Life After The End

Carter Leath

Carter woke up to the sun's vibrant rays shining through the classroom's windows. She sat up, knowing she would be at risk of receiving a write up for being late to her shift at the greenhouse if she fell back asleep. Acey immediately trotted over to her side, licking on her bare arms relentlessly, happy to see his best friend had woken up. Carter smiled, giving Acey a light scratch on the back before stretching and standing up from her palette of blankets on the floor. Her back ached, but she had slept on something other than the cold concrete floor, and that was something to be thankful for. She walked around the room tiredly, gathering clean clothing that she had received the day before from the office, who distributed and cleaned clothes for all the residents every week. She changed quickly and leashed up Acey before heading out the door. Her worn shoes clicked against the hallway's floor as she walked down to the cafeteria, with Acey following carefully by her side.

She passed by the office, and glanced through the window to see runners gathering their guns before heading out for the day. She had made it a habit to look in the office to check for new survivors, as she liked to be the one to spread word if there were any newbies. There didn't seem to be any today though, so Carter went on with her way. After a few feet, she finally reached the cafeteria and tied Acey up to one of the emptier tables before going through the line. The breakfast today seemed to be pretty good, as they were serving bread ( a rarity ) along with fresh jelly and bits of potato. She grabbed a water to go along with her meal before sitting down at the table that she had tied Acey to previously. She ate and observed the chatter around her, eavesdropping a bit to see if there was anything new going on.

Adam woke up with a gasp . He frantically looked around him and it took him a few moments to realize that he was in his classroom. He took rapid breaths to calm himself down and then sighed in relief. It was another nightmare. They have been plaguing him a lot recently, fragments of memories forcing him to relive the horrors of how he lost everything. As if every waking moment being a reminder wasn't enough, even sleep wasn't a safe haven. He stood up and walked to the window, the sun was barely rising up. He stretched his body then started doing some sit-ups and push-ups, staying in shape was essential for survival now so these morning exercises have become a daily routine. And his job involved going outside and the chance of running into... Them. After he finished he crashed on the bed again, he thought about the day before, he was able to catch two rabbits which was quite a feat. But wild pray is becoming scarce and he wondered what would they then.

He was lost in thought for a while when he started hearing commotion outside, it was time for breakfast. He reluctantly stood up and put a new shirt on, he wondered if he'll be able to catch good game today. He strapped his sword and hilt on his back and grabbed his hunting knife, then opened the door to his classroom and walked out. He headed to the cafeteria for breakfast and as he was walking Acey and Carter came into view. He walked towards Acey and patted his back.
"Good Morning buddy, did this evil chick wake you up this early and dragged you all the way here?" He then stood up and looked at Carter. "Good morning, How is..." Then he noticed her breakfast. "Jelly again? Come on... I really need to keep some of the game I catch to myself." He mumbled as he shook his head. "Well atleast the bread is a nice change."

Remus continued to stare down at his chart, he was tired and just about done with his research. "Again nothing conclusive, I'll have to start from scratch again." Sighing he got up and loocked up at the clock on the wall, "hmm breakfast time, maybe some brain food is all I need." Yawning he made his way to the cafeteria, seeing how mostly everyone was in. He continued to turn his head, doing a mental head count as he slowly walked in. Taking down notes on the health of those within view, 'hmmm eveyone seems to be doing just fine. No need to worry about any sickness.' He approached the server, obtaining the breakfast that was being served and proceeded to sit down. "Hmm, good thing I actually like jelly, really should do something about getting the bread toasted though. Make it easier for me to eat."

It may seem odd for him to talk to himself, which is something he does alot of, but it actually helps him maintain his sanity. He holds these conversations with himself in a joking manner, or sometimes in a serious manner depending on the circumstance and context of his personal thoughts. He sighed and proceeded to eating, 'if i cant find a cure then I can at least try to find a way to temporarily inoculate ourselves, make the hunters happy I bet.'

Kailani Arabella Hunter

Nuzzling her head into the damp, mossy tree bark, Kai sighed contently. The warmth, yet chill of the fresh morning breeze brushed against her arm gently as she gazed over the mountains at the rising sun. It illuminated every crevice, crack, and left the sky a brilliant amber. This view was the exact reason she had decided to become a runner, even with all of the dangerous scenarios and obstacles. Well--this, and the fact that she happened to be a rather fast runner.

With a small yawn, Kai lifted herself off of the forest floor. It was rather damp with morning dew, and left a few droplets of water trickling down her calves. Kai had stayed past the safe confines of the base yet another chilly night, and decided it would b a good idea to start heading back. After all, if she stayed any longer, Kai would no doubt be suspended from running yet again.

★ ★ ★

Kai headed into the base with an old, worn-out potato sack. She had picked a few fruits off of the trees lining the path down the mountain, and thought it would be nice to share with everyone. Hell, all she had wanted this past month was some fresh strawberries, and some whipped cream. Ah, a girl can dream. With a small tear in her sweatpants, Kai hadn't realized she had been scraped by some foliage until a little girl had pointed out the blood. Maybe it would be good to head to the first aid center and get it disinfected…

Kennedy woke up from her usual nightmare, the one she's been having since her parents were eaten alive a few months ago. It was the same scenario, her coming downstairs to the sound of her parents trying to fight off a few walkers that had gotten in the house, and watching them have their flesh being eaten into. Not only did she have to listen to their screams night after night, but in the dream, while they were being killed, they would call out to her. "Why did you let this happen!? Why did you let us die!? It's YOUR FAULT!!!" She sat up with a sigh. She was tired of this repetitive dream. She could quote it by now, as if she didn't blame herself enough already. She looked over at Carter's pallet and noticed that she had already gotten up for the day. She overslept. Again. God, this dream was annoying. She stood up, stretched, put on her glasses and a fresh pair of clothes (consisting of a t-shirt, jean skirt, and her favorite combat boots), and grabbed a small knife, concealing it in her boot. She left the room, and being on the security team, she glanced in each of the classrooms on the way to the cafeteria.

Most everyone was up already, some of the younger ones still asleep. She walked into the cafeteria and slid to the back of the line, which was slowing down now that most of the shelter had gotten breakfast. She was happy that they got bread today, but decided to get a smaller piece since there were still people left to feed and the bread was running low. She got the rest of her breakfast and headed over to Carter's table where she and Adam were engaged in conversation.
"Morning, guys. Sorry I'm late." she said with a shrug. She sat down and started eating.

Carter smiled at Adam's comment and tore off a piece of bread and threw it down to Acey, who pretty much devoured it before it even hit the floor. "Well, if you want to be written up, then I guess you could." she said, sighing a little bit. There were very strict rules in the shelter about turning in all food and supplies into the office once you got back to the camp. Otherwise, by now Carter would've already swiped a few of the tomatoes from the greenhouse for herself. Instead, she had to wait until the showed up in the cafe. "Oh, and trust me the jelly supply will probably be slowing down. We lost quite a few berries the other day." she said, messing with the food on her plate a little bit. She actually liked the jelly, as before she reached Branson she had never tasted home made jelly before, and it was pretty good. She looked down at Acey and remembered something, "Oh hey, Adam. You're allowed outside the walls everyday right? If it's allowed, could you try and find some dog food somewhere? We don't have any and Aceys' been having to have bits of my food. That's not very good for him I don't think. I'm sure the office staff will let it pass too, they all love him."

"Oh, good morning sunshine." she replied to Kennedy, putting her past conversation on hold. "I forgot to wake up again. Sorry." she looked down at the watch on her arm that she had received as a gift from one of the office staff, Kent, and looked back up at Kennedy. "Well on the bright side, breakfast still has ten minutes left." she said sarcastically, finishing up the potato bits on her tray before laying it down on the floor for Acey, who ate the leftover bread eagerly. She chugged down some of her water before sliding it back and forth between her two hands. At least she was allowed to have water whenever she wanted.

Kent Mcfuller

Kent finished up the load of laundry he had been working on and hung up each of the clothing items to dry.He looked at the clock that hung on the back wall and shifted his eyes to the door. There were ten minutes left for breakfast.
Shit. He couldn't afford to miss breakfast, as it was 1 of the only 2 meals that were served daily. He rubbed his wet hands down on his shirt and darted out from behind the office counter, running straight into the cafeteria where it was being served. He quickly collected his food before walking over to the tables. He glanced quickly through the crowds of people. He noticed Carter, Adam and Kennedy first, but quickly shook off the idea of sitting with them, as he wasn't really sure if he was allowed. Even though he had came in with Kennedy and Carter, he still couldn't be too positive that they actually liked them. Oh but he loved Carter. He looked around one more time before locating Remus and hurrying over to sit down with him.

"Hey man." he said awkwardly sliding in between Remus and another resident that he didn't know. He began to eat his food frantically, wanting to be done before the cafeteria cleared out. The bread made it a bit hard to do though, so he drank some of his water to make up for the dryness in his throat. "I kinda was hoping that when we finally got bread that it's be toasted.. y'know?" he said, looking to Remus. While he had the chance, he took a quick glance over at Carter's table, looking at her for a moment before looking back down at his meal.

Allison

The sleep she always had was just darkness, no dreams, no nightmares. Standing up she changes into her usual clothes, a t-shirt and a simple pair of shorts. Strapping on a pair of boots, she grabs her hunting knife and slings her crossbow across her back. (Let me know if you want me to change the weapon) Her long, greasy hair was put up into a ponytail and it swayed as she walked. She still wasn't in the best mood but it was decent for most days she was here. While she was walking towards the cafeteria, she smiled ever so slightly at the people that passed her, it was her best effort. Waiting in the line she saw what the breakfast was and even though there was bread, she was still tempted not to eat it but she needed her strength for the day so she would choke it down. Grabbing her plate of food, she walks over and she sees a couple people she does talk to and hangs out with while she has been here. "Hey Carter, Kennedy, Adam" she says with the best smile she could put on for the moment. "Sorry I'm late" she says taking a seat.

"Seriously, girl! You're my alarm clock, so do your job!" Ken said laughing and playfully hitting Carter's arm. If there was a bright side to any of the crap that was going on in the world right now, it was that she still had friends to look out for her. Carter, Adam, and Allison were her closest friends here, and she was grateful for them. They were pretty much the only thing keeping her sane. She looked at the watch on Carter's arm. "Is that the watch that Kent got you? Girl, he's got it for you baaad," she teased. I guess love is still possible in the apocalypse, she thought, perhaps there's hope for lil' ol' Kenny after all. She laughed off the thought and waved to Allison as she approached the table. "Hey, slept in late as well, I see," she said with a smile. She finished off her bread and started on the potatoes. Man, what I wouldn't give to have a full sub sandwich right now.

Kailani Arabella Hunter

With a cute, pink-colored bandaid across the cut on her calf, Kai scurried into the cafeteria, spotting who she had hoped to. With an evil grin, a dark lightbulb appeared over Kailani's little ball of blonde waves. Kai ducked behind a few tables, unnecessarily ninja-hopped over a few trash bins, and exaggeratedly avoided banana peels like a secret agent. Damn, Kai felt like such a ninja this morning. After a few other overly-enunciated movements, she felt rather out of breath. Was she really fit to be a runner? Maybe it was time to change professions. It didn't matter! Not now, anyways. After all, she had finally reached her target.

"Target acquired," Kai mumbled, still feeling like she was the protagonist of a super-cool top-secret spy movie.

Reaching into her bag, she pulled out the shiniest, reddest apple in the bag, and extended her arm. Kai snickered, feeling the apple leave her hand. She had hoped to hit Carter, but as always, missed by a mile. Instead, the sweet ball of red veered off-course, hitting an unsuspecting Ken.

"Oh my god, that wasn't supposed to hit you," Kai mumbled, wrapping her arms around Ken's head, "it was supposed to hit
you!" Throwing her hands up in exasperation, Kai pointed at Carter, a mischevious smile slipping onto her face.

Kai picked up the apple, shoving it towards Carter, "fruits are good for you. They're sweet, unlike you!"

Adam sighed with Carter as she mentioned being written up. "Yeah yeah, the damn rules." He then arced an eyebrow as she mentioned the lost berries. "So in a few days I'll be wishing we had jelly? Great." He looked at Acey as he listened to her request. She was probably right, he could really use some real dog food. He patted Acey's head. "I'll keep an eye out, I got your back buddy." He was about to go get his breakfast when Kennedy arrived. "Morning miss security." He said teasingly. He Went to stand on the food line which was short now and got his breakfast, he arrived back at the table as Allison walked in. "Morning Allison, ready for another fun day of chasing rabbits and birds?" He threw a small peace of his bread to Acey then took a bite himself. "So Carter, got any news for us? Any new arrivals?" He was about to eat another bite when an apple suddenly flew and hit Kennedy. Kai then suddenly appeared explaining how she terrible missed her target. "Fruits are good for all of us Kai, can I be the one accidentally hit with an apple next time? " He said as he jealously eyed the apple handed to Carter.

Allison

"We'll be lucky if we find even that" she says to Adam. Food had become very scarce and it was diminishing quickly."When are we heading out today?" She asks Adam because half the time she couldn't keep her work schedule straight and thankfully because of him she hasn't been written up yet. As she ate, all she could eat was pretty much her bread, then she started offering her potatos to anyone that wanted it. "Anyone want my potatos, I can't eat anymore" she says to the The general people sitting around her, it wasn't abnormal for her not to finish her breakfast. Half the time she was just too sleep deprived to think about food and then the other half the time she just didn't want to eat. Honestly, she just didn't want to eat today. "I'm going to ask you all a question and it doesn't mean I'm even remotely thinking about it but would you guys ever leave this place? Survive on your own?" She asks just curious was they thought of it because it has crossed her mind a couple times.

Carter caught the apple and looked at it, "Aren't you supposed to turn in all your finds to the office?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at Kailana. She wasn't trying to be a hard ass or anything, but she didn't want any of her friends to get in trouble. "I'm still eating it." she said with a smirk, picking up a fork and cutting off a piece and handing it over to Adam. "If you find any seeds in there let me know, the garden could use an apple tree." she said with a wink, taking a bite out of her half. "And no, I didn't see any newbies, unfortunately." Carter actually liked it when new people came in, it was a good thing. As there was plenty of work around the shelter to be done, but hardly anyone to do it. She looked up and blushed at Kennedy's comment, "It's not even like that.". She looked down at the watch on her wrist, suddenly embarrassed that it was there in the first place. She looked down at Acey, who was staring up at the people sitting at the table eagerly waiting on anyone else to offer scraps.

"Acey wants them if no one else does." she told Allison, looking at her then back down at the hungry puppy. He was a rather small dog despite his breed and age, and Carter was worried about him. He was treated like any other resident in Branson, except medical couldn't do all that much for him, considering they only had human medicines. On the outside, Acey had been bitten, however he never turned. When they reached the complex, Acey had been taken away from her for weeks to ensure he wouldn't turn. She didn't know what they did to him, but she knew that animals couldn't turn. That's all they told her of the matter.

Carter fumbled around with Acey's collar a bit before looking back up at Allison. "Maybe if there was something or someone out there for me, but I just don't see boredom as a good reason to endanger myself." she said with a shrug. The idea of going back out there when she had safety here was beyond her, and she didn't even wanna repeat the months before she had reached Branson. Even if some of the rules were sucky, she was a strong believer that this place was home now. She would never leave.

Adam gratefully took the apple piece and smiled at Carter. "Thanks Carter." He took a bite and closed his eyes, relishing the taste. "Apples are life." He made sure to check for seeds but couldn't find any. "We're going north-east today Allison, which is good. It''s near the river so if we couldn't find any prey we can go for fish." He then sighed at her last question. "I do think about leaving a lot. Taking my chances out there sounds appealing enough. And who knows, maybe there is a better safe haven out there. Sometimes I wonder why I keep going on in a world without much hope left in it." He asked while lost in thought. "But the thing is, I've never been a quitter and...maybe, just maybe. There is a reason behind everything that happened."

"OW!" Ken exclaimed as the apple hit the back of her head. "It's... Ok?" She said as Kai covered her face with her arms apologizing. She rubbed the knot that had now formed on her head and laughed at Carter. "Mmhmm," she looked at Allison, "No, I think I'm perfectly fine where I am." She didn't want to admit that the outside terrified her. She couldn't, didn't even want to, imagine what it would be like if she was out there on her own. At least here she felt normal, or close to it. Sure, she could fend for herself and fight well on her own, but 1: it's lonely and 2: it's scary. She wouldn't rather be anywhere else than where she was. Besides, her best friend was here. Why would she leave anyways?

Ken looked at the rest of the residents that were coming in for breakfast, and went through a schedule in her mind.
Ok, everyone's here it looks like, so after breakfast check the classrooms again, library, kitchen, labs, gym, playground and parking lot. I think today's my shift to watch the parking lot. She finished off her food and gave the last 2 potato scraps to Acey. "So does anyone wanna come join me on my shift in the parking lot during their free time?" she asked the table.

Kailani Arabella Hunter

"I won't tell if you won't," Kailani winked, giggling. I mean, it certainly wasn't like she was a rule follower to begin with. After all, if she was, she would probably be suspended as a runner a lot less than she is now. Oh well, life is short… especially as a runner. She squeezed herself next to Ken, still patting the back of the girl's head. This afternoon, target practice should definitely be one of her priorities. However, as a an apology, she pulled something out of her back pocket, slipping it to Ken under the table.

"On one of my runs yesterday, I stumbled across an abandoned little gas station. Given, it had been abandoned by the
living… non the undead, but hey these don't age, right?" Kailani laughed, pointing at the chocolate bar she had just dropped onto Ken's lap. The thing is, under no circumstances were runners ever supposed to infiltrate any base, potential crawler-zone, or empty building alone, but Kai was simply impatient. She couldn't possibly signal for backup, wait until other runners, hunters, and strategists to arrive, and then have them take her discovered treasure away from her.

"Adam, just let me know the next time you want to be hit by an apple, alright? I'll be glad to do so," Kailani replied, playfully rolling her eyes. Looking over at Allison, Kai opened her mouth, waiting for the girl's potatoes. I mean, clearly Kai couldn't be bothered with picking up the fork and eating the potatoes herself like a decent human being, so she had to be fed.

Remus was deep in thought going over his to do list when Kent say next to him. He didn't turn to face him, but he listened sincerely to the awkward sentences that spewed from his mouth. He knew he was trying to hard, he wasn't trying to start a conversation, he was trying to distract himself. Remus had no problem with Kent, whom he considered an apprentice, really he was the only one who showed an interest in finding the cure as well and was actually willing to help find it. He sighed, "alright kid what's bugging you? You know you can talk to me, but even I know when someone is talking out of their ass and you're doing a good job of it. Does it have something to do with Carter? If you want you can come with me when I head to the green house, I'll take extra long getting samples, use the time to talk to her."

Getting up quickly, she puts the potatos on the ground for the little puppy to eat. "There you go" she says before ruffling the top of Acey's head and going to sit back down. "Well when are we heading out?" She asks Adam just anxious to get out. Hearing what everybody thought she honestly couldn't understand why most of them were fine here. This place was on her last nerve but then again, she couldn't exactly pick up and leave. "I won't be able to join you Ken, sorry" she says. Hunting took up most of her day since food was so scarce now a days. It was so easy at first and then, it wasn't. "I guess you're right, everything happens for a reason." She says more to herself than anybody else. Adjusting the strap that was connected to her crossbow she waits for someone else to say something though she was seeing that breakfast was almost over.

NOAH DEMPSEY

Noah's peaceful sleep was interrupted when he heard someone (@princxss) closing the door of the infirmary with complete carelessness, causing him to almost fall from his chair in panic from the abrupt slamming of the door. Noah had once again fallen asleep in the infirmary reading a book, it was the third time this week. He always dreamed of becoming a doctor and taking care of his patients, but it was getting really tough to manage so much work. From small injuries to carefully medicating people with mental illnesses to even helping with medicine outside the shelter, Noah's job was getting harder by the day. But he couldn't quit, the shelter needed him. Still a bit confused and agitated he looked around the infirmary, rubbing his still dry eyes, only to spot no one. Whoever woke him up had already left and seemed to temper with the medical supplies. Obviously, him falling asleep in the infirmary could lead to someone stealing medical supplies which was unacceptable, but luckily whoever entered the infirmary only used some of the bandaids. He was relieved, but he couldn't let this slide again.

Noah looked at his watch to check the time and it looked like once again he was late for breakfast. Not having any time to put on a fresh pair of clothes, Noah quickly grabbed the book he was reading, which had his pocket knife in between the pages almost serving as a makeshift bookmark, and hurried to the cafeteria. Once he arrived, he was pleased that there were still some other people getting served. Looks like he wasn't so late after all. He quickly grabbed his plate, and barely even looked at the food he was served. It there was something in this life that he didn't over analyze, it was food. As long as he wasn't starving, Noah wasn't someone to complain about food.

Finally with his plate, he looked around the cafeteria for a place to sit down and eat. From either casual check ups to daily conversations due to medications in the infirmary, everybody in the Shelter knew Noah somehow. He could simply go sit down with anyone and they wouldn't find it strange at all and they would probably be friendly towards him. However Noah, even though he had been with the Shelter for quite a while now, still hadn't made pretty much any relationships besides the ones he had with his patients. But those certainly weren't anything special. He decided to go sit down with Remus, a scientist that was very determined on finding a cure for the dead which Noah thought was completely ridiculous, and Kent, a younger kid who he still didn't know very well. "Good morning..." Noah said to the people already eating at the table, while he himself sat down. He placed his book and plate in front of him preparing to read while eating, which he loved to do even if the cafeteria was a noisy place. He also couldn't help but over hear the conversation between Remus and Kent, not that it really interested Noah.

Carter Leath

Carter finished off her apple quickly, pulling out any seeds and stuffing them in her pocket before tossing it into the trash bin. "I can probably come. I have a few thing to do at work first, but when I get a moment or two I'll come hang out." she said, looking over to Kennedy. She looked back down at her watch and began to untie Acey from the table, "Well, I gotta go. Don't wanna be late to the greenhouse.". Carter lifted herself from the bench and pulled on Acey, waving goodbye to all her friends for the time being. She looked around for a moment, noticing that Kent had sat down with Remus instead of her and her friends.
Again. She didn't really get him. They had gone to the same school together, survived together, reached Branson together, but he still neglected to sit with her and Kennedy. You'd think he would prefer to be near people he had known from before.

She exited the cafeteria through the back door, reaching the playground area. She looked to see if there was anyone out there but there wasn't, aside from the walkers groans and growls from outside the fence, it was pretty quite. She bent down to Acey and unclipped his leash, allowing him to roam around in the safety of the fence, away from the threat of being eaten alive. She knew he'd be okay, as she let him roam wherever he wanted while she worked, with the office's approval, of course. Carter walked herself over to the greenhouse and opened the door, walking inside and looking around to make sure she was alone before shutting the door behind her,

She walked up and down the rows of plants, stopping ever now and then to pull off a dead leaf or to adjust a plant so it would get more sunlight. Everything seemed pretty good so far. She walked back to the door and grabbed the water bucket and started to water all the plants that needed it, being extra careful not to drown them. Once she was done, she harvested anything that seemed ready and place them in a large basket by the door for Remus to take to the lab later to be checked.

Kent Mcfuller

Kent looked up at Remus and back down at his plate, "Yeah, it's her. As always." he mumbled, tearing his bread apart aimlessly. He listened to Remus's proposal and looked around to make sure no one was listening in, he put a hand on Remus's shoulder and leaned in a bit, speaking quietly. "Is that allowed? I mean, I'm off until 1 A.M, but I'm supposed to use this time to sleep and I
really am ti-" he stopped himself, realizing he was rambling, "I mean, will it get us in trouble?". He asked, looking around one more time and scooted away from Remus, realizing he probably looked a little funny sitting practically in his lap. Remus was cool and all, but not that cool.

Right as he moved away, Noah came and sat down beside him. "Morning.." he replied, feeling a bit claustrophobic now that there were more people around. "Uh, Remus, you know where I stay at right? Room 34B. I'm gonna go sleep a little, come get me when your ready." he said, squeezing himself out from between Remus and some other stranger, obviously tripping on his way out. He stood back and put his hands in his cargo shorts back pockets, smiling and waving before scurrying off to his room, where a nice cold concrete floor awaited him.

Remus let Kent do whatever it was to get his message across, 'runts anxious, better just let it get out of his system, healthier that way.' Remus nodded "we probably can get in trouble, but remember, im the one who checks the food and water. Chances of me getting written up are pretty low if the office wants to ensure healthy accomadations." Remus nodded once more to Kent's comment, "alright kid, I'll get you in an hour, use the time to sleep, and to also steel yourself for the side project."

Remus didnt turn when Kent left, too many things were on his mind, but Noah sat down near him with a "Morning." "Good morning doc, how you doing? I may need some more blood samples soon for my research." Noah was a pretty good doc, though not once did Remus ever have to see him. Remus' education gave him an advantage over most, he knew exactly how and what he needed to take care of his bodies nutritional needs, even with the limited supplies they had. He took another bite out of his jelly covered bread, 'I must find out the recipe for peanut butter....that would make this jelly even better.'

Adam finished his breakfast but was still a bit hungry. Though he didn't complain as he knew well it'd be useless to ask for anymore, they won't give him any. He looked at Kailani and smiled. "It would be a pleasure to get hit by you with an apple anytime." He then moved his attention to Kennedy. "Allison is probably right Ken, not sure when we'll be back, but I'll try to make it." He nodded as Carter stood up. "Yeah we need to go too, Allison." He stood up. "Good luck today everyone, I'll meet you at the gate in a few minutes Alli." He walked back towards his room. He started going through his hunting stuff, fulling his backpack with snares and trap, then his eyes landed on a photo of his family, he held it in his hand and sighed. It was a photo of him and his parents in their farm, they were all smiling. Not in a force a smile for the photo way, they were genuinely happy.

But that was never enough for him. He had to leave them and go to the city because the farm life felt lacking to him. He studied hard for years to become a reporter and secure a future that didn't even exist. He felt anger rush through him, he was angry at himself and his stupidity. He threw the picture out of the window as hard as he could, he didn't see where it landed. Regret and failure were all he felt when he remembered his parents, he didn't think he was worthy of even keep that photo. He quickly slung his backpack on his back where his sword was also slung and rushed out of the room. He headed towards the armory and took a hunting rifle then headed to the spot where he was supposed to meet Allison, they'd need to go through the medical checking before they leave. He was looking forward to leaving. When he is out there his mind is fully focused on surviving and catching food, not looking back at a past that is starting to feel like a fantasy instead of a memory.

Ken raised an eyebrow at Kai and whispered back, "I really shouldn't let you do this, but I'll let it slide this time because of the apple incident. Just this once though." Aside from the rule breaking that was happening, Ken couldn't help but smirk and she sneaked the chocolate bar into her pocket. "I just... Don't think it's a good idea to be out there on your own, especially when you have a safe place to be," she replied to Adam. She waved bye to him and Carter as they got up to go and gathered her stuff together as well. She got up and gave Allison and Kai friendly pats on the back and headed out to the hallway after putting away her dishes.

Ken headed back to her room first to grab her bow and quiver (and to drop off the illegal treasure, hiding it at the bottom of her bag), and put on the highlight-green vest that signified she was on security. Afterwards, she started on her routine classroom check. She peaked her head in to every room, waving to some of the residents passing by on the way to their job. As usual, nothing out of the ordinary. Everyone gone for work, some still gathering their stuff, and her bumping into other security guards checking the same classroom. Next, she headed over to the library. No one was ever in here this early, so all she had to do was skim over all the shelves and check the list to make sure every book that was checked out was returned or still in custody of someone. When she was done there, she headed back to the kitchen. There were still people finishing off their breakfast, and the kitchen workers were hard at work getting all the food back in place. She left them some words of encouragement and headed towards the labs. She stopped by each one to see the scientists buried in their experiments and studies.
Remus must still be eating, she thought. He was one of the only scientists she usually talked to. After the labs, she checked the gym and the playground, then headed to one of the clinic offices for her checkup before she started her watch shift. Everything normal. This whole day seemed to be just another normal day. Who knew those were possible in the apocalypse?

NOAH DEMPSEY

Noah had only just started reading his book, when he was interrupted by Remus. The scientist was kind enough to ask about Noah's well being. "I'm doing fine, I guess. You know, despite the circumstances." It was quite weird responding to such a question with the apocalypse upon us, but what else could he say? His work was intense and tiresome, but at least he wasn't outside the Shelter fighting THOSE things. Remus brought up his research, which Noah wasn't very fond of, and even talked about the possibility of needing a couple more blood samples. "I'll see what I can do." Noah said, not very enthusiastic. Remus searching for a cure was something that brought hope to the lives of many who lived inside the Shelter. Noah appreciated the fact that some still had faith in restoring society, but to him the idea of a cure was just idiotic and pointless. Still, he wouldn't and couldn't deny the usage of blood samples for Remus' research. Not only because if he were to deny it he would get in serious trouble, but because he wouldn't have the guts to take away the hope of survival from countless others.

After the little chat, Noah ate the rest of his food quickly as he had to go give the hunters a checkup before they left the Shelter.
"I'm on a tight schedule as always, you know how it is." He said to Remus, hoping he'd understand, getting up from the table with all of his belongings and his plate. "And the blood samples... They're limited, keep that in mind, but I'll get you some by today's end." He said before leaving, reassuring that he'd try his best to get Remus the most quantity possible of samples for him to continue his research.

Noah made his way towards the medical checkup zone at the fastest pace he could. On his way many people inside the Shelter greeted him, with Noah always responding as nicely as possible. People were generally surprisingly nice for a guy who came across as a complete mess, with a rumpled shirt, crooked tie and heavy bags under his eyes. He guessed people understood the heavy work he put in to make the Shelter a better place for everyone and it seemed like most were very grateful. Maybe his idea of being a doctor and helping people wasn't this when he was child, but at least he still managed to become a doctor. He finally arrived at the checkup zone and there were still some hunters making their way there. With a small sigh, Noah sat behind a small desk, waiting for the hunters to line up. This daily routine was quite boring, but it was mandatory.

Carter Leath

Once she had finished her daily chores, Carter began to plant more seeds, being extra careful to make sure they were all planted correctly. As of today, the greenhouse would now begin to produce herbs and spices as part of its usual harvest. She was glad to finally get them planted too, as the office wouldn't allow it at first until the cafeteria was getting a steady income of fruits and veggies from the greenhouse. After all the seeds had all been planted, Carter watered them a bit and sat them down along with all the other plants. She was unsure what to do next, since she had taken care of everything so quickly. She leaned up against the wall of the greenhouse and wiped the dirt off her jeans, looking over all the plants. The harvest had ended up being pretty good today, as most of the tomatoes had finally ripened after weeks and weeks of waiting. She suspected they would be on the menu a lot throughout the next couple of weeks.

Carter really hoped that the Runners or Hunters managed to find some livestock soon. Kent had told her weeks ago that the gardeners would also be in charge of tending to any livestock that was brought in, and Carter was really anticipating their arrival. She didn't have much to do a day, and tending to animals would be a fun addition to her day. That is, if they ever found any. During the months before Branson, she had never seen any animals aside from Acey.
