Mother of Kitties
There was a pleasant tingle at the back of Victoria's neck. This was her first hunt. Humans were tricky to track, the fact that they could move around in the daylight was a definite advantage. But they had caught wind of a band of humans a few miles into the woods off to the side of the city. It was rather daring of them to be so close. Supplies must have been low.

It was a group of seven that had left the city under the cover of darkness. Mikail, Kai, Damien, Katarina, Clover, and Troy were Victoria's companions. Kai was Victoria's sire. He had also sired Damien and Clover. Katarina was the other elder of the group. She had sired Mikail and Troy.

This was Clover's first hunt as well, her green eyes twinkled in the moonlight that escaped through the leaves of the trees surrounding them. She winked at Victoria, her widespread grin let everyone know just how excited she was about the night's festivities.

They were under strict orders to make no sounds. The group moved silently through the woods, not a leaf crunched under their feet. Some would have said it was eerie to watch, but Victoria thought it was beautiful.

Katarina held up a hand, fingers clenched into a fist. Everyone stopped moving and stood still. There was a murmuring of voices ahead. A fire crackled a little ways to the left of them. Victoria could smell the smoke.

She had tied up her ebony hair to keep it out of her way, but tendrils were escaping to frame her pale, angular face. She tilted her head to the side, amber eyes scanning the forest around them. She looked to Kai. He was crouched low, focused on where the noises came from, a smile curling over his lips.

It was humans. The hunting party had stumbed upon them rather quickly. Katarina was scanning for booby traps but seemed confident there were none as she motioned for everyone to continue moving forward.

The first feelings of unease wormed into Victoria's head. This seemed too easy.

(I post in first person POV if that's okay.)

Kier

It had been a calm evening, with the wind rustling the fallen levels and the fire crackling softly in the middle of camp when the scout came running. I had been telling Patricia and John, one of the few children that had escaped with us into the woods, some of my ancestor's stories when Alexander, the scout, came in. Alex had tried to hide the fact that he was panicked when he walked over to us, but I could see in his eyes that something bad was coming. I had pulled him to the side, allowing him to catch his breath before asking him why was the matter. He had told me of the hunting group coming our way.

A half hour later, I sat in the same quiet hush that had at once been peaceful. All of the tents, gear, and 73 other people who had been here not an hour ago were gone. I had sent them running farther into the woods, to a safe place we had picked earlier this year for just this reason. They hadn't wanted to go, to leave their young leader behind but I assured them that they would be fine and I would be fine. They left after setting up the recording on someone's phone of them all conversing as normal. The recording played, the fire crackled, and I sat clinching a long hunting knife, awaiting the group of filthy blood suckers to come and play.

Lifting my head to the sky, I let out a long wolf howl imitation filled with guilt and longing. 'Sorry I won't be going to meet you all at the creek. I promise to protect you with my life,' I said through the howl. I stood, facing the direction the scout reported the vampires to be heading from, and raised my knife. My little mixed tribe had trusted me as their leader even though I was a young teenager. They had believed in me to guide and protect them. Damn it if I was going to let some leeches take them and break them.

"Come and get me, assh*les."

They fanned out around the clearing ahead. Kai seemed puzzled. He held up one finger, high above his head where everyone could see. Only one human? That definitely made Victoria nervous. It had to be a trap. Then again, how lethal could one human be? Kai told stories of dispatching whole groups of humans by himself, so if he wasn't worried then Victoria had no other reason to be.

She was the youngest and most inexperienced of the group. All she was going to do was follow orders until this was all over. She hoped the others wouldn't be able to sense how nervous she was.

Kai and Katarina broke the tree line first, after signaling for the others to hang back. Their sillouettes were dark against the crackling fire. They stared down the human boy, waiting for his move.

Kier stood tall as the two blood suckers broke into the clearing and stopped starring at him. He smiled, tilting his head to the side in a teasing manner, "What? Were you filthy animals expecting more? Sorry to disappoint but I'm the one you creatures have to deal with." His voice was like that of when he talked to one of the toddlers in the 'tribe,' slow and drawn out like they couldn't understand him if he talked faster.

When the male vampire's face grew tight with rage, Kier smirked and raised his dagger. "Wanna fight big guy? Or you wanna run back to your master in one piece and tell him you didn't find anything? I'll let you decide big guy."

Kier's stand seemed to relax when in fact it stayed ridged and ready to fight as he crossed his arms over his chest which was bare. He had shed the shirt when he was helping dismantle the camp and pack everything up and had yet to pull it back on. The knife in his hand was shifted and grabbed in a fashion which would make it easier to stab at the vampires eyes if he was close enough to one of the beasts. His old hiking boots were emptied of their usual duel hunting blades as was his back free of his bow and quiver of arrows. To the blood suckers he must look pretty defenseless with just a dagger but he had one thing they didn't: the drive to fight for his life, not because he didn't want to die but because his 'tribe' needs him.

Victoria was shocked. She had never heard a human speak to a vampire in such a way. There was no way Kai would tolerate the stupid boy's comments. Did he really think that little knife would be any sort of defense against an elder vampire?

Kai lunged forward, almost faster than the human eye could see, slamming the boy into one of the tall oak trees behind them. It seemed that the fight would be pretty one sided from this point.

Katarina motioned for the rest of them to move out of the tree line. Victoria watched everyone else take up their spots in an almost semi-circle around the fire before she emerged from the shadows and stepped into the light herself.

She shot a glance at Clover - she was almost vibrating with excitement. Clover had proven to be a ruthless vampiress, laying waste to several humans in the cities that had tried to run. She was eager to sink her teeth into a wild human.

Victoria on the other had had never killed a human. Part of her hoped this boy would give up and come quietly. But it didn't seem that would be the case.

(Hell no it isn't the case! Haha. How's work?)

Kier was almost shocked when the vampire he was teasing lunged forward and slammed him into a tree. The backbreaking movement almost cause Kier to drop his knife, but he held strong and heard the sound of the blade sinking into the vampires I upper stomach. The beast growled in pain and pulled back as the other vampires immerged out of the night.

While he had a chance, Kier dodged around the big vampire and sliced again. The blade missed the faster vampire whose fist connected to Kier's jaw, knocking him flat on his back. Dots danced across his vision making it harder to focus on staying alive while surrounded by blood thirsty sharks. The vampire smiled in victory before turning to probably tell his comrades that the fight was easy, but the words never came out. Kier jumped to his feet, grabbed his dagger of the ground, and plunged the blade into the vampire's heart through his back. A quick twist of the blade made it easy for the human to pull out the bloody knife and shove the dead vamp to the forest floor.

"I was going to say watch your back, but it doesn't matter anymore," he said looking down at the corpse before glancing at the other silent vampires. "Who's next?" He asked with a false sweet smile.

Victoria smirked. If that boy thought you killed vampires by stabbing them in the heart, he was sadly mistaken. Kai had just been stunned, possibly unconscious at the this point. But it would take much more than some punk human boy to take him down.

Mikail and Troy moved forward. The light from the fire cast their faces into strange shadows, the white of their teeth flashed in the darkness. They drew the boy's attention so that Victoria could make it to Kai's side and pull him over behind the trees. She grunted with the effort it took to move him. He looked much lighter than he was.

Once behind the cover of the trees, Victoria propped Kai up against a tree were he would be out of harm's way for a little while.

She watched her two "brothers" preform a deadly dance around the human. They were much to quick for him, it was like watching a cat play with it's food before eating it.

(Great how is it done?)

Kier stood ready to fight in the middle of the semicircle formed by the vampires as the two twin brothers slinked towards him. "Sorry about killing the big guy, I hope he had life insurance," I ran the bloody blade against the side of a tree near by me, cleaning it particually.

The brother behind me snickered, "you actually think that you killed Kai, a powerful vampire, with the stab of your knife? Ha!" I glanced over my shoulder, following the spoken vampire until he was in front of me. "Well, to give me a fair chance at this fight, would you mind telling me how to rid the world of you abominations," he said with a false sweet smile. While his brother was distracting the human, Mikail rounded behind the human and lunged. His body slammed into the back of the human, taking him to the ground.

Kier felt the impact of the large vampire tackle him and slam him into the hard earth. The vampire's weight kept him from being able to take in a breath after his was knocked out by hitting the ground.
