In a world entirely different from this one, the Beenu possessed an incredible affinity for advanced technology - the most prominent example being an underground facility which contained objects and systems akin to the computers, weapons, security systems, and metal refinement that currently exist in the modern world. It was an unprecedented leap in technology that was hardly ever understood by any of the other races. It seemed, even, that the Beenu were so intensely focused on science and advancement that the use of their wings and magical abilities was often forgone in favor of performing research & development indoors.
Unfortunately, however, tragedy struck for the Beenu. Because they were one of the very first races to understand the reverse-aging effect of refined dragon silver, made from the scales of a Dragon Aspect, it seemed only logical for people to believe they were responsible for the sudden death of one of the two Sun Dragons, Phanto - especially for the elves, who had lost their immortality as a result of the new moon and thus were able to experience the true horrors of death and suffering in the event that would be known as the Birth of Magic.
Against the wishes of the elven king, a small group of elven assassins set out to the facility mentioned earlier, with the goal of poisoning the main source of silver distribution for the Beenu - and then murdering every single Beenu in the facility, in order to remove all witnesses from the event. It was an act of pure genocide, committed by individuals who saw the Beenu as much less than people.
With the tainted silver removing their ability to live long or reproduce, it would only take decades before the death of every Beenu in the world was at hand. And so, before the turn of the next century, the first and only known extinction of a race in the realms ever occurred.

In short, while there isn't any kind of advanced technology in the Land of Wings, I've still tried to blend some form of magical and tech-savvy nature into my character, as that is what her race is known for elsewhere. If you thought natural cosmetics was all my character knew, then you're going to be pleasantly surprised at the level of alchemical talent she's got, as Beenu compensate for their short lives by learning things very, very quickly. Some of the recipes I've given her knowledge of are straight out of modern aviation. You can probably guess what I'm going to have her start making next, based on the powers of the character right below hers.
